Unbefreakinglievable. Truly, amazing. Script, action, acting - 3-dimensional and insightful, sweeping and honest. Something new even for a lifetime Batman fan, something worthwhile for anyone who loves great movies.
This movie is a masterpiece. Simultaneously a funny, warm and charming cartoon about a lovesick robot; and a powerful, cautionary tale about the direction of modern culture and society, this movie has something for everyone. I took my 8-year old, who loved it, but I'd recommend it to people without kids. It's that good, see it on the big screen.
I loved this movie, a meditation on love for grown-ups.
First we meet Vicki and Cristina, representing opposing yet equally dysfunctional views of love and committment. Then they meet the perfect man, Javier Bardem, at last in a leading man role for an American audience. And finally we all meet Penelope Cruz, arguable the most beautiful woman in the world (other than my wife,) in an Oscar turn as a catalyst to explore the boundaries and downside of explosive chemistry.
We see the limits and possibilities of passion and real committment, of course with emphasis on the former given Woody Allen's ongoing fascination with such things. But also in Allen's style not a character or a scene is wasted. The art direction, cinemetography and music are beautiful; the acting is fantastic, and the story gives us everything except closure, much like love itself.
Other than a massive missed opportunity for gratuitous nudity, this film is just about perfect. If you're one of the 5 other people who haven't seen it yet, you should.
