Dolls
My favourite movie, I never saw something so impressive before. It is emotional, symbolical both cruel and so beautiful.
3
Braveheart 1995,  R)
Braveheart
Well it is a classic. I then watched this movie when I was 13 years old at the cinema. Entrance would have been only allowed with 16 and over.. ;)
It was an unforgetable experience. A fragile love-story written in a world of enprisonment and brutality. Beautiful music and artwork, genious actors and a story that still manages to make me cry.
4
Slim Susie (Smala Sussie) 2003,  R)
Slim Susie (Smala Sussie)
It is like pulp fiction, but better in every way. So much creativity in this movie..

Solyaris (Solaris)

6
Stay 2005,  R)
Stay
genious masterpiece. Never seen such a cutting before. In the end all puzzle parts fit together and form a superb picture. And then you have to watch it all over again to find it totally different from the first time you watched it. Impressive.
7
Before Sunrise 1995,  R)
Before Sunrise
Well everyone knows how a summer romance does feel like, right? Well I do, that's why I love this movie
8
The Great Dictator 1940,  G)
The Great Dictator
It's old and it is impressive. It is even more impressive if you are aware that this movie was produced in 1939 and if you know how the movie-industry in the USA reacted on it. Chaplin made a true masterpiece.
9
Harvie Krumpet 2003,  Unrated)
Harvie Krumpet
Shortfilm from Australia. I love the beauty in this film that is hidden behind so much tragedy. This short is just perfect.
10
The Bubble (Ha Buah) 2006,  Unrated)
The Bubble (Ha Buah)
This is an absolutely incredible film about a gay couple in modern Israel. Don't be turned off by the szenario, I am not gay myself and this movie still managed to "blow me away" ;)
The movie does hit many aspects of the Israel-Palestinian conflict and does show it in a more or less neutral way. It is emotional, funny, sad, very very well played and complex enough to not only stay memorable but also will make you to want to watch it again and again. I absolutely love it. This is a must watch!
11
Modern Times 1936,  G)

Yeopgijeogin geunyeo (My Sassy Girl)
Fun to watch :)
13
The Bucket List 2007,  PG-13)
The Bucket List
Well I expected it would be good and it was. It does not dig as deep as you could do, but it is touching and it is just fun to watch Freeman and Nicholson acting together on screen :)
14
The Notebook 2004,  PG-13)
The Notebook
A really beautiful lovestory.. :)
There is not much more to say to it. The actors are good, the music fits, the screenplay is great and you should watch it with the one you love :)
15
The Green Mile 1999,  R)
16
Waking Life 2001,  R)
Waking Life
I saw this twice, the first time I just was too tired to accept all this creativity at once. But then the second time was really good. I like all this thoughts floating around and forming different pictures. Great movie! Very poetic.
17
Pi 1998,  R)
18
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
19
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life 1983,  R)
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
Well this picture is for me the best movie of monty python. Yea, I know, most people would not agree with me on that, but it is a poetic web of comedy constructed around life and death, so that you may get stuck in it and think about what they really wanted to tell with all this scenes :D
For me this movie shows the meaning of life perfectly without ever spelling it out loud: laugh and be happy, enjoy your life while you can. It is something very precious and we should celebrate this instead of being miserable.
20
Memento 2000,  R)
Memento
I saw this first at the cinema and it was kind of hard to follow this film if you do not watch it with all your attention. But if you do, then you see how well this film is put together. I like it.
21
Happiness 1998,  NC-17)
Happiness
well, it has a very cynical view on life. Of course it may be depressive as hell but well, it is told in a so cynical way, that I could not take it too seriously ;) Great ideas. I can't believe I missed this until now

Quiet room ni yôkoso (Welcome to the Quiet Room) 2007,  Unrated)
Quiet room ni yôkoso (Welcome to the Quiet Room)
This film is both very funny and very sad. It is well done and entertaining. Well this film is proof to me that you can still make good movies without any special effects and with mostly just a good script and ideas :)
30
Me and You and Everyone We Know 2004,  R)
Me and You and Everyone We Know
A lot of great ideas. I loved the way those ideas dropped together and in the end formed a film.
31
Elling 2001,  R)
Elling
Well, it is unconventional and funny :)
32
Ronja Rövardotter (Ronia, the Robber's Daughter) 1984,  Unrated)

A classic. I still love this movie like I did as a kid.
"Pfui pfui!" :D
33
The Last Unicorn 1982,  G)
34
Scent of a Woman 1992,  R)
Scent of a Woman
one of my all time favorites.. al pacino really was great in this movie. They could have taken a better guy instead of O'donnell though. That whiny.. well I just don't like him.
35
The Lovers of the Arctic Circle (Los Amantes del Círculo Polar) (The Lovers from the North Pole) 1998,  R)
The Lovers of the Arctic Circle (Los Amantes del Círculo Polar) (The Lovers from the North Pole)

37
The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within) 2004,  PG-13)
The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within)
Well this is a timeless classic already. So sad.
38
Atonement 2007,  R)
Atonement
nice cinematography, great idea with the music, good actors and deep emotions, that will pull you into this movie and leave you behind differently. Very impressive.
39
When the Light Comes (Licht )(Die Stunde des Lichts) 1997,  Unrated)
When the Light Comes (Licht )(Die Stunde des Lichts)
40
Hable con Ella (Talk to Her) 2002,  R)
Hable con Ella (Talk to Her)
.....
41
The Guns of Navarone 1961,  Unrated)
The Guns of Navarone
I love that movie. It is quite old now but still for me this is one of the best action-suspense movies of all time :)
42
Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos) (Permanent Midnight) 1997,  R)
Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos) (Permanent Midnight)
I think the sadest thing is, that most people watch vanilla sky first... the movie is really a masterpiece and does really not need any 1:1 copy with Tom Cruise.
43
Nae meorisokui jiwoogae (A Moment to Remember) 2004,  Unrated)
Nae meorisokui jiwoogae (A Moment to Remember)
I did like it.
44
21 Grams 2003,  R)
21 Grams
I remember when I saw it at the cinema. It was very confusing with the time-jumps and quite depressing. Now I did watch it again and it is so well played and nicely contructed if you are able to really focus on the movie. Naomi is very very impressive and in 21 grams Iñárritu did still dare to show death as it is. Maybe reactions on this movie were the reason, why he did not let end Babel as it should have.. ;) :)
45
Eternity and a Day 1998,  Unrated)
Eternity and a Day
Well it is surely impressive, especially the switching between words and silence and the 1-shot-scenes that just cannot be made any better. Pictures and words will be stuck with you for a while. I'll have to watch this movie again.. :)
46
L'Auberge Espagnole (Pot Luck)(Euro Pudding)(The Spanish Apartment) 2002,  R)
L'Auberge Espagnole (Pot Luck)(Euro Pudding)(The Spanish Apartment)
A funny and unconventional movie.
47
Luna Papa (Moon Father) 1999,  Unrated)
Luna Papa (Moon Father)
This is one of my favorite movies. It has charme, humour, drama and great ideas. The screenplay is very memorable and Bleibtreu and Khamatova did a good job as main actors. Khamatova especially because of her "glow", Bleibtreu because of his acting ;)
All together it is a dreamy masterpiece. A must watch for everyone that likes unconventional movies.
48
Love and Death 1975,  PG)
49
Smultronstället (Wild Strawberries) 1957,  Unrated)
50
The Fall 2006,  R)
The Fall
Absolutely brilliant movie. Very colorful and creative. If you watch it again you may see lots of influences and connections you did not see at first. A masterpiece.
51
Driving Miss Daisy 1989,  PG)
Driving Miss Daisy
Very well done :)
52
Kolja (Kolya) 1996,  PG-13)
53
Duck Season (Temporada de patos) 2004,  R)
Duck Season (Temporada de patos)
This is a really fresh movie about our young generation. It's in black and white and done rather artistic and special although it is quite simple.
54
Being There 1979,  PG)
Being There
This movie does kind of remind me of the movie "forrest gump" or the quite more aggressive "Bad Boy Bubby". It is about a simple man with less intelligence than average that somehow manages to become extraordinary. This movie still is fresh (although it is already 30 years old) and the character is very likable.

Still I personally would have liked a change in storyline, I would have liked him to finaly say "I am just a gardener, I don't know how to take care of you, or money, but I know how to take care of this garden. Please would you let me take care of it, yes? That would make me very happy."
55
Goldfish Memory 2003,  G)
Goldfish Memory
What is love? Well you will not get a straight answer to that of course, but it is a humorous movie about love, sexuality and life with great photography and dialog.
56
The City of Lost Children (La Cité des Enfants Perdus) 1997,  R)
The City of Lost Children (La Cité des Enfants Perdus)
You will step into this movie just like a child does in this world. You will find it hard to understand the things you see. The whole movie is like a dream, mostly in a dark and evil way but still very innovative and deep. Very good screenplay.
57
Closed Note (Closed Diary) 2007,  Unrated)
Closed Note (Closed Diary)
Well, for me again one of the pearls that we western people almost never get in touch with. But it is a good story with very beautiful actors/actresses and with lots of sweet ideas that either make you laugh or smile, a good movie to watch together with women ;)
