My Favorite Movies

  1. MightySparks
  2. Lauren

My favourite movies of all time. Note: these are not the best movies ever made, these are my favourite, although my "best movies ever made" list would be quite similar.

NOTE: Some of these movies I've only seen once, and I've tried to avoid 'first time' bias by putting them down lower than I wanted to put them. I try to wait for some time to pass before rewatching them, so that might be a while...

  MightySparks's Rating My Rating
1
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 1975,  R)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
This is my favourite movie of all time. But I can't actually say why. Everything about it is perfect, obviously. But sometimes I'll think 'I don't think it was that great, actually' and then I'll watch it again and fall in love with it all over again. Jack Nicholson is awesome and Louise Fletcher's performance is the only female performance I have ever liked EVER.
2
The Celebration (Festen) 1998,  R)
The Celebration (Festen)
While the plot sounded interesting, I was put off by the Dogme 95 rules, mainly the fact it was filmed by hand. Nevertheless, I watched it and was blown away. Although the only thing that happens is, people talk a lot, the performances are great, especially Ulrich Thomsen's. All his speeches were just brilliant, and were my favourite part of the whole movie.
3
A Clockwork Orange 1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
After watching this, Stanley Kubrick became my favourite director and so since then I have been trying to watch all his movies. Anyway, the first time I started watching this I had to turn it off after 5 minutes because I couldn't understand what Malcolm McDowell was saying. I forced myself to watch it again, and after getting accustomed to his strange accent, I fell in love with the movie. Malcolm McDowell was awesome and the music in the movie made me fall in love with Beethoven. Especially the song playing when Alex goes to the record store *goes to listen to it again*.
4
Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1974,  PG)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I picked this out to watch randomly, not knowing anything about Monty Python and I couldn't believe how funny and awesome it was. It is one of the movies that I could watch over and over and not ever get bored.
5
Brazil 1985,  R)
Brazil
My media teacher recommended this to me, after I listed a bunch of my favourite movies. Besides the fact that Terry Gilliam is a fantastic director and the movie is extremely 'pretty', the storyline of the movie is interesting. I love science fiction though. Besides the whole awesomeness of the plot and Terry Gilliam's directing, Michael Palin makes a short appearance and we all love Michael Palin.
6
The Green Mile 1999,  R)
The Green Mile
This came out when I was 8, but whenever I first saw it I fell in love with it. I can watch it over and over and never get bored of it. I'm not exactly sure why, but it really is a perfect movie.
7
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
The first time I tried to watch this, I turned it off after Trinity first jumps over the roof thinking 'wtf is this lame crap'. I went back to it when I was 11/12 and watched the whole thing and fell in love with it. Every time I watch it, I still find it enjoyable, which is an especially good compliment as 1) it goes for 3 hours and 2) I get bored quickly. Um... this is also in my Top 10 movies of all time. Also, whenever we get a new TV, dad always puts this on to test it out and when we got surround sound, he used this to test it out (lol).
8
Shaun of the Dead 2004,  R)
Shaun of the Dead
I saw a poster for this that said "a romantic comedy... with zombies", I then vowed to see it. When I finally did, years later, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was extremely funny and extremely well done. I hate new movies and I hate new comedies especially, so for me to say this is the second funniest movie I have ever seen is extreme praise.
9
Twelve Monkeys (12 Monkeys) 1995,  R)
Twelve Monkeys (12 Monkeys)
This is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Strangely enough the original book was written by a FEMALE! I pretty much hate everything that females write/direct/sing. This is also one of three movies that Brad *gay* Pitt didn't suck in. I actually liked his performance.
10
Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
I didn't expect to like this and I think it's mainly due to Jean Reno and Natalie Portman's chemistry and acting that made it so awesome. I didn't like Gary Oldman particularly, but the rest of the movie made up for it. This was one of the few movies in which I wanted a happy ending and I actually liked the characters.
11
Psycho 1960,  R)
Psycho
I put this off for ages, as when I first watched it I hadn't started watching older movies. So when I put this in the DVD player I had no idea what to expect. What I found was the best horror movie ever made (note, this is not the scariest) and some fantastic acting from Anthony Perkins.
12
28 Days Later 2002,  R)
28 Days Later
When I first saw this, I hated it. I don't know why. I rewatched it years later and loved it. Although it technically isn't a zombie movie, I still classify it as one because of the similiarities, ie turn into crazed things with a taste for blood and most of the population are dead, etc. I don't like the happy ending, but other than that it's awesome.
13
Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991,  R)
14
The Crying Game 1992,  R)
The Crying Game
I thought I wasn't going to like this and so watched it on Foxtel so I couldn't stop it and not watch it for 5 years. But after about 5-10 minutes, I fell in love with it and knew it was going to be awesome. I don't usually like any kind of relationships in movies (friendship, romance whatever) but I liked the friendship between Forrest Whittaker and Stephen Rea, and actually wanted Forrest to survive. The next few minutes were a bit slow, but it became enjoyable after that and I ended up really liking it.
15
Kin-Dza-Dza 1986,  Unrated)
Kin-Dza-Dza
I found this in a list of the top science fiction movies on IMDb and thought I would check it out. At first I was like 'o.O' but then I fell in love with it and as such is in my top 20 movies of all time.
16
Duck Soup 1933,  Unrated)
Duck Soup
I watched this at 16, not expecting to enjoy it very much (I mean come on, how the hell is 30's comedy going to be any good?). However, I found it absolutely hilarious. It was very... silly and predictable, and I can see why people wouldn't like it, but I was literally laughing out loud at every line. This probably has less to do with the actual hilarity, and more to do with me liking the atmosphere of the Marx brothers and also the fact that some of the stuff seemed rather risque for the 30's.
17
A Fish Called Wanda 1988,  R)
A Fish Called Wanda
Again, I hate romantic comedies. And I hate Jamie Lee Curtis. But, the movie is hilarious. Kevin Kline was so damn awesome in this he promptly became my second favourite actor. He and Michael Palin were the best parts about the movie and their scenes together were great.
18
The Shining 1980,  R)
The Shining
I first saw this when I was 11, after having seen the remake hundreds of times and I didn't like this because 1) the ugly wife and 2) the orange room at the beginning. Like I said I was 11. While the ugly wife does suck majorly, Jack Nicholson makes up for all the bad perfomances as he is totally awesome, and Stanley Kubrick, my favourite director, obviously makes it look pretty.
19
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut 1999,  R)
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
South Park is awesome. So you would expect the movie to be awesome. And it is. All South Park needs to be is funny, and this is. I quote this on a daily basis, mainly "I farted on the set of Blue Lagoon", which me and my brother say when someone says something extremely lame, but nevertheless whenever I watch the movie I am always guaranteed to be laughing out loud throughout the whole thing.
20
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 1997,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
The last time I rated a movie 5/5 was in 2006, 3 years ago (and that was to Festen). I don't give out perfect ratings often but this movie deserved it.

My usual type of movie are Lynch or Cronenberg like, ones that are banned in most countries or are considered extremely disturbing (the likes of Salo, Nekromantik, Pink Flamingos). So, this is the complete opposite of what I normally enjoy.

I also, am very unemotional (am a Schizoid) but I actually cared about the characters in the movie. Which I think has only happened in 1-2 other movies.

I thought it was funny, and well acted. Some of it was sort of douche-y, but the interactions between Guido and his son in the camp make up for it. And an awesome ending too.
21
This Is Spinal Tap 1984,  R)
This Is Spinal Tap
Absolutely hilarious. I didn't know anything about it when I watched it and I totally lost it at "these go to eleven".
22
An American Werewolf in London 1981,  R)
An American Werewolf in London
Another movie I thought was going to suck. I was originally going to watch it one night and decided not to so as not to waste my time. But I went back to it the next day and I was amazed to find that it was really good. The stupid nurse woman was lame, obviously, but David Naughton was pretty awesome and the effects were amazing. Note that they were the reason the special effects award was created for some award thingy.
23
The Purple Rose of Cairo 1985,  PG)
The Purple Rose of Cairo
I hate romance movies, but I love this movie. I found out about it because I like Woody Allen and he had said it was his favourite of his movies, so I checked it out. If I hadn't already known, I would've never have guessed it was a Woody Allen movie - it is so unlike his other movies. Everything about it was perfect, and I usually hate Mia Farrow but she didn't bother me too much in this. Jeff Daniels owned the movie though. Also it was one of the few movies where I wanted a happy ending.
24
The Shawshank Redemption 1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
This is another movie that I can't actually explain why it is so good. I have only seen it twice, but I still can't pinpoint why I like it so much. I guess some movies just have an effect on you that you can't explain.
25
Memento 2000,  R)
Memento
Aww. I hate reviewing movies I like. I don't really like any of the actors in it, but they all did a good job. Though, the best part of it is the plot, as it should be. I can't imagine anyway that the movie could've been better.
26
Monty Python's Life of Brian 1979,  R)
Monty Python's Life of Brian
I watched this after becoming a fan of Monty Python and it doesn't disappoint. It was extremely funny, as you'd expect from Monty Python and awesome.
27
Final Destination 2000,  R)
Final Destination
This is one of few movies where the story is actually the reason I like the movie. The idea is fantastic and is actually done well.
28
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
It starts off slow, and I got bored the first time I tried to watch it and shut it off. When I went back to it and watched the whole thing, I ended up loving it. It was really funny, especially "You can't fight in here this is the war room!".
29
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang 2005,  R)
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
I would probably have been bored out of my mind if anyone but Robert Downey Jr had been cast. The plot itself isn't overly interesting, but Downey's delivery and acting makes this extremely enjoyable to watch.
30
12 Angry Men 1997,  PG-13)
12 Angry Men
I was bored of this at first as I wasn't really sure where it was going, but once it started I really started getting into it. Mystery's and the like generally annoy me, but this was really enjoyable and I liked how although the other 11 blokes were bias towards the black dude having done it, but Henry Fonda gives them all a slap in the face and they see the facts rather than the guy. Meh, I liked it.
31
Jurassic Park 1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
This movie probably contains some of the best special effects I have ever seen. New movies overdo the CGI and everything looks fake, but this movie just looks amazing. And not only that, it's actually a good movie! Who would've thought? I hate dinosaurs actually, ever since I was young due to the constant studying of them in primary school. But people die and things roar which is always promising. If you don't like it you're an idiot and if you haven't seen it, then see it!
32
The Thing 1982,  R)
The Thing
Just great. This is what horror/sci-fi should be like. The tension in the scene where they're testing the blood is fantastic.
33
Battle Royale 3D 2001,  Unrated)
Battle Royale 3D
The acting is pretty bad, but it doesn't matter. I LOVE the story. I read the book not long after, and also wrote a NaNoWriMo based on the plot, and I just can't get enough it.
34
Le Samouraï (The Godson) 1967,  PG)
Le Samouraï (The Godson)
I saw the Criterion DVD cover for this and I thought 'that looks awesome'. So I watched it. And I was amazed.

The first 10 minutes, I was kind of 'meh'. Then, I was on the edge of my seat, eyes glued to the screen for the entire time. It wasn't just the plot; the main character was so frickin' awesome, I was in shock. I've never heard of Alain Delon before, but I definitely have to see more of him. And Melville too.
35
Dawn of the Dead 1978,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
At the time I watched this, I liked new horror movies because I liked watching people die and getting excited (ie loud noises, zombies/monsters with good effects). I saw the remake first, which was actually good. Although there are slow zombies in this, this made me realize why I like zombie movies. I like seeing what the characters do and how they survive with this going on around them. And watching people get owned by zombies. So this one is enjoyable for the story and the remake is better for watching people die.
36
Das Boot (The Boat) 1981,  R)
Das Boot (The Boat)
I had to watch this because it was in the Top 250. But I didn't want to because basically it looked to me as 'A three hour movie with dudes in a submarine'. But holy poop! It was awesome!

I was kinda iffy about it to begin with, but once they got in the sub, I was pretty much engrossed. I was actually seriously rooting for a happy ending (which I never do), and was like 'yeyz' at the end. And then it ended even more awesomely. And I jizzed in my pants. Seriously though, it was awesome.
37
eXistenZ 1999,  R)
eXistenZ
This was my favourite movie for a while when I was young (guessing I was around 9). I just love the look of Cronenberg's movies. The plot was awesome and the movie was fun.
38
Alien 1979,  R)
Alien
I like movies set in a confined space. You get a limited set of characters, who only have a limited area to play in, and then you chuck in an alien and watch them die. Which is why this is good and the crossover with Predator isn't. While this is almost more action than science-fiction, just the right amount of each is used to make an extremely good movie.
39
Die Hard 1988,  R)
40
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
Reservoir Dogs
I put this off for ages because I thought it was going to suck, I don't know why. Again, I like Quentin Tarantino movies mainly because he writes dialogue so well and I also like the 'ordering' of the scenes. I did end up enjoying the movie a lot though.
41
Last Night 1998,  R)
Last Night
I LOVE this kind of thing; apocalypse, post-apocalypse, impending apocalypse... Some of the casting was a bit iffy, but the plot was fantastic. It explored just enough without going over the top and I loved that there was no explanation.
42
Back to the Future 1985,  PG)
43
Serenity 2005,  PG-13)
Serenity
The first time I watched this I had never seen Firefly and although I enjoyed it, I was a bit 'meh' about it. When I watched it after seeing Firefly I liked it more. Although Firefly surpasses the movie by far, it is definitely an enjoyable movie but I think you have to be a fan of the series to appreciate it.
44
Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
45
Airplane! 1980,  PG)
Airplane!
I thought this was going to suck badly, but it was hilarious. The acting sucked, but I'm not sure if it was meant to. The jokes, though, were really funny. I generally hate parody/spoof movies, because they suck, but this is one that does it right.
46
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
Eraserhead was the only David Lynch movie I had seen prior to this. Technically I had also seen Blue Velvet, but I was 12 when I saw that and didn't remember it at all. Anyway, I put this off for ages because Naomi Watts is one of the worst actresses in the world. And she majorly sucked in this up until the end. I wasn't really sure where the movie was going because nothing much seemed to happen and it was all drama like and it was David Lynch, and I pretty much just looked forward to seeing Justin Theroux's sunglasses because they were SO DAMN AWESOME. Also, the songs sung at the audition were damn catchy. The most memorable thing about the movie is the Winkies scene. Before that I had never been properly scared in my life (except for like Eraserhead, but it was nowhere near as intense). I honestly almost had a heart attack and almost cried, wet and pooped my pants at once. Even hours later I was shaking because I was still so damn terrified. I was extremely pleased to see it topped a list of scariest movie scenes as there are only two movie scenes that have ever scared me, properly, not counting the ones in Eraserhead as they were... more disturbing than scary. The only other scary movie scene was in Lost Highway.
47
House of 1000 Corpses 2002,  R)
House of 1000 Corpses
After the first 10 minutes I thought 'this is the best, funniest movie ever'. Mind you, I was 13. The last 10-15 minutes sucked and I generally stop watching when it gets to that part, but the rest of the movie is just so damn good I have to give it a high rating. Although the girls who play Denise and Mary were awful, everyone else was great. Especially Bill Moseley and Sid Haig (coincidentally my favourite characters). It was funny, enjoyable, the characters were interesting and a good, maybe even not enough, amount of gore.
48
The Evil Dead 1981,  R)
The Evil Dead
When I was like 5, my dad was watching this and so me and my brother watched some. It didn't bother me until the pencil was shoved through the guy's foot and then I couldn't watch anymore. When I finally decided to watch it (I think it was last year, at 16) I really enjoyed it. The acting was lame, but I think it was meant to be, and although it was supposed to be a comedy, I think, it was more enjoyable as a horror movie.
49
Dead Alive (Braindead) 1992,  R)
Dead Alive (Braindead)
I was reading a review on Lord of the Rings where someone had asked why someone would give the "same guy who directed Braindead" the money to make Lord of the Rings. So I found Braindead and although it was a New Zealand movie, I thought it was just going to be some lame Australian comedy that wasn't funny at all. I found it really funny and is the goriest movie I've ever seen (I've seen A LOT of gory movies). When the ear or whatever of Lionel's mum falls into the soup, I actually cringed, which is the only scene in a movie where I have ever done that. I had to look away for a split second in Pink Flamingoes when Crackers was hitting that girl with the chicken because I felt really bad for the chicken, but that's a different story.
50
In Bruges 2008,  R)
In Bruges
Since 2003, I have been a HUGE hater of Colin Farrell. And that's an understatement. I refused to watch anything with him in it and if I did every time I saw his face, my hand would go up to the screen to cover his face. When he was in magazines, I would scribble the hell out of his face. I dreamt about him annoying me and me covering my face so as not to look at him.

So I put this off for ages (it was in the Top 250). One day I decided to just get it over with. After the first 5 minutes, I had taken my hand away from the screen and had forgotten it was Colin Farrell I was watching. I was extremely surprised to find that it was really amazing.

It was funny, it progressed well and very surprisingly, Colin Farrell was amazing. I never thought I would ever say that, and as awesome as the movie is, it's still hard to admit that I like a Colin Farrell movie this much and thought he was good after years of hating the dude.

Basically, all I have to say is SEE IT. It is seriously amazing.
51
Idiocracy 2006,  R)
Idiocracy
I had no idea what to expect when I watched it. And I was pleasantly surprised. I don't really like either of the Wilson's, but he was ok. It was frickin' hilarious and I love that most of the people that hate it are the people that diss it.
52
American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
I hate dramas, but I really enjoyed this. This is probably due to Kevin Spacey's awesome acting skills, but nevertheless I enjoyed it greatly.
53
Pitch Black 2000,  R)
Pitch Black
This was my favourite movie for a while when I was younger (possibly 9/10). I just love it. This is another example of how I like my sci-fi. I hate having to say 'I like a Vin Diesel movie', but it's so damn awesome, it doesn't matter. I love the look of it, the effects are pretty good and the acting was fine. I always thought that the aliens looked like Kabutops, so I always referred to Kabutops as 'the ugly thing from Pitch Black' ^_^
54
The Langoliers 1995,  PG-13)
The Langoliers
Although the Langoliers were bad effects, I didn't realize this was a TV movie until years after I first watched it (when I was like, 9-10). This was my favourite movie when I was younger at one point and I still enjoy it a lot when I rewatch it, which is fairly often.
55
The Terminator 1984,  R)
56
[Rec] 2007,  R)
[Rec]
Because this was a low-budget (?) foreign movie, I figured it would be lame, but it sounded cool and there was no way I was going to watch an American remake.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the most intense movie since I watched Cloverfield a year ago, and both shaky cam? Coincidence? Maybe not. The only thing I ever get from new horror movies, is a possible 'jump' from a loud noise, which is not a scare and is lame. I rarely get excited and am on the edge of my seat, and get goosebumps just because of how good it is. Only about five movies have done that to me, three are David Lynch movies, the other two are this and Cloverfield.

The shaky cam is definitely the reason that the movie is as good as it is. It makes you feel as if you're there and makes it much more intense. People seem to think shaky cam makes you feel sick but I think they're on drugs because I've never felt sick from them.

Anyway, the problems I had with the movie: 1) the ending was bad. The good thing about Cloverfield is that it doesn't try to explain itself, it just is. This one attempts an explanation and brings it down, IMHO. 2) It's predictable for the most part. But then, all movies are so not really a valid complaint, but the 'scares' are easily identified as I think they're supposed to be. Erm... I think I had a third reason but I don't remember what it was.

Besides those things though, it was extremely intense and enjoyable and I haven't seen a really good movie in a while so I was happy I chose to watch this.
57
For A Lost Soldier 1993,  Unrated)
For A Lost Soldier
It's very slow until Jeroen meets Walt. I was pretty bored at first, but once they meet it turns into a good movie. What I like most about it is the fact that it's not about anything, ie it's not a 'gay' movie and it's not a 'pedophile' movie. It's just two characters who (think?) they're in love and their short time together. What I also like is that it was very natural. The chemistry wasn't forced and it wasn't awkward at all, which is always good.
58
Some Like It Hot 1959,  Unrated)
Some Like It Hot
I didn't think I would find a movie this 'old' funny when I watched it. But I did, and I really liked Jack Lemmon in it too, his character was hilarious.
59
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
When I first saw it (end of 2002, I was 11) I fell in love with it and it became my favourite movie. I don't like the sequels though. I rewatched this recently and I thought I wasn't going to like it as much as I used to but I was proven wrong. I'm not sure why I like it so much especially since I hate CGI, fantasy and action, but it works in this movie.
60
Cloverfield 2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
After seeing the preview for this I was like 'meh whatever'. Dad decided to go to the movies to see it and I looked it up and saw it was with a handheld camera about a monster in the city, so I almost didn't go as I thought this was going to suck badly. As soon as it started though, I realized I was going to love it. Just the fact that they introduced the characters for as long as they did, and the way the movie progressed from there. I was literally on the edge of my seat and when it finished I was amazed that a new movie could be so awesome. It really is amazing.
61
The Wages of Fear 1953,  Unrated)
The Wages of Fear
I put this off for ages because it was black and white, made in the 50's and foreign.

But holy flip it was amazing! I was seriously on the edge of seat the whole time. The acting was fine etc. It took a while to actually get into it, but once it did, it was awesome!

*spoilers below*

I liked the characters and I actually wanted a happy ending. I think that's the 4th time I've wanted a happy ending ever. Every time I do, I get an unhappy ending. But I think that makes it even more awesome.
62
Total Recall 1990,  R)
63
Pet Sematary 1989,  R)
Pet Sematary
This movie used to scare the hell out of me when I was younger and I LOVED it. And I still do. Zelda is just scary as flip, and still bothers me slightly. The girl was annoying, but Miko Hughes was pretty damn awesome and it's one of the few movies where I've actually liked the kid.
64
Eraserhead 1977,  R)
Eraserhead
I have no idea how I got through this. I was literally watching this with my eyes opened wide and my mouth down to the ground and couldn't take my eyes away. It was so random and pointless, but it really disturbed/scared (I don't even know) me and I fell in love with David Lynch immediately afterwards. Although pretentious film snobs are like "Ooh, I like this movie because it has symbolism" I like the movie purely because it was the first movie which ever made me react. All other movies before this I was just like 'meh, whatever', but I was quite disturbed by it. This was due to 3 things. 1) Jack Nance's awesome facial expressions, 2) that baby... I hate babies anyway, but that noisy goddamn baby makes normal babies into quiet little creatures. You have no idea how agitated I got from that thing. 3) The Lady in the Radiator - her stepping on the sperms and 'In Heaven...'. That song was some seriously creepy, haunting stuff.
65
From Dusk Till Dawn 1996,  R)
From Dusk Till Dawn
Out of the main supernatural creatures, vampires are my least favourite. I can't stand them, especially the 'new' ones (sexual and stuff, they're supposed to be evil and RAWR *bite*).

Anyway, I saw this when I was young and thought it was frickin' awesome. The only reason it doesn't have a perfect rating is because... actually I don't know. It's really awesome. The effects are pretty good, the acting is fine... and it's awesome.
66
Inglourious Basterds 2009,  R)
Inglourious Basterds
I like Quentin Tarantino, but I hate Brad Pitt. And it looked like it was going to be long and gay. But I really enjoyed it.

The opening scene was brilliant. Amazing. The acting throughout was good, especially from Christoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent. And I never praise female performances so that's saying something (the only other ones I've liked: Louise Fletcher in One Flew, Kathy Bates in Misery... and I'm pretty sure there's someone else but I can't remember).

It was funny, and well-written (well, obviously, it's Tarantino). Yeah. I hate praising movies, I can never do it well.

I loved the idea of it, and the movie was pretty awesome as well. I can't believe how much James Brolin looked like Christian Bale and that freaked me out for a while. I HATE westerns, but this was much more sci-fi than western, so I enjoyed it quite a bit.
74
Cypher 2002,  R)

It was a little predictable, but I found it so enjoyable that it didn't matter. I was only 13 when I first saw this and I didn't actually guess the ending then, but on subsequent viewings it was pretty obvious. I also don't know if my enjoyment was purely based on the movie, because I was slightly enamored by Jeremy Northam ;)

I like movies in a 'weird' order, if they are done well. This is one of them that is. The 'random' ordering makes getting to know the characters and understanding what is going on a lot easier and more enjoyable. Besides that Quentin Tarantino writes fantastic dialogue.

The Godfather
I hate movies about mobs, gangsters and the like, but I really enjoyed this. Three hour dramas usually bore me as well, but it moves along pretty well and Al Pacino and Marlon Brando = pwnage.

The Fly 1986,  R)
The Fly
It's science fiction, and was made in the 80's. It's destined to be awesome. And it is. I haven't seen the original, and probably never will. The effects are pretty goddamn awesome, and well, the whole movie's awesome.

The Godfather, Part II
I can't decide whether I like this one of the first one most. I've only seen this one once though and the first one three times. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and is one of the few sequels to match/surpass the quality of the first film.

Fight Club
I didn't want to watch this because I hate Brad Pitt. I also thought the plot sounded boring and stupid and I was like "WTF is this in the Top 250!". Then I watched it and was like "oh, that's why". Brad Pitt is actually ok in this, but Edward Norton's performance was the best thing about the movie. I was kind of like 'where the hell is this movie going, he likes Ikea and punches people... so...?" but even with that as the plot, it is strangely enjoyable.

I used to hate those teenage movies from the 80's, but after actually watching some, I realized they were pretty cool, which was weird. This is my favourite of that lot, and although it is really lame, it is a really good and enjoyable movie.

I thought I was going to be extremely bored and hate the movie. So I watched it on Foxtel, so I couldn't stop it and go back to it later. But, I enjoyed it greatly. At first I was like 'wtf this is lame', but once it started up I was like "This is awesome! I want them to live- aw, wait they die".

The Usual Suspects 1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
I found this movie extremely predictable, but I am a master at prediction so whatever. I don't really like mystery movies because they're usually lame, but I did enjoy this and Kevin Spacey is great, as he is in everything.

The Sixth Sense 1999,  PG-13)
The Sixth Sense
I saw this when it first came on DVD/video, whatever was around in those days so I was only 8-9. I watched it with my mum, dad and younger brother and was the only one that guessed the twist because I was awesome even from a young age. It 'came' to me when Bruce Willis asked Haley Joel Osment where/when he saw dead people and he says "all the time". I'm so cool. Anyway, even with knowing the twist, the movie is still enjoyable which doesn't happen all that often.

SPOILER (for those living under a rock for the last 10 years =P):
When Bruce Willis was dead at the end of Sixth Sense I jizzed in my pants.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc) 1928,  Unrated)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc)
For years, I would see the cover of it and think 'Damn that dude is ugly'. Turns out, the ugly dude is an ugly woman.

Anywho.. I am an atheist and I thought Joan was a complete retard for being religious. Having said that, I LOVED the movie. I don't even understand why, because this is the kind of movie I should hate. It was an amazing performance and I think that was really what 'made' the movie. I mean, I don't even know who Joan of Arc was, let alone care about her. But it was really amazing.

The Graduate 1967,  PG)
The Graduate
Dustin Hoffman = 2nd best casting ever. First place goes to Anthony Perkins in Psycho. Anyway, Dustin Hoffman was awesome, obviously and it was funny and enjoyable, although I really hate Katherine whatever her name is. I forget. The music from Simon and Garfunkel was also a great addition, because they rule.

Dead Snow (Død snø) 2008,  Unrated)
Dead Snow (Død snø)
I'm usually not so superficial with movies, but the effects were really bad (mainly setting effects, it looked like they were standing in front of a cardboard set). But I can look past that, because I'm cool.

Although I'm madly in love with zombie movies and horror movies, they are extremely predictable. Now, while some of this was predictable, guessing the order of who was going to die, wasn't. Which is surprising, because I've never watched a movie and not been able to guess the order in which people die (except for this, and Snakes on a Plane since they didn't kill any black guys). So that was cool.

It was pretty funny. The characters weren't really likable, but I didn't hate them either, which is another surprising thing because usually I'm looking forward to watching them get pwned. Also, I don't like zombies that think, but I'm going to look past this one.

So, it was a good zombie movie. It was funny, had a bit of gore (though lame effects), and since I didn't guess the order that they die it's even more awesome.

The Great Escape 1963,  Unrated)
The Great Escape
I thought it was going to be really lame, thus put it off for years.

I actually liked it quite a bit, with the exception of the weirdness after they escaped. The actual planning of the escape is what I enjoyed the most. I knew it was based on a true story, so it was amazing to think they actually thought of all those things and put it all together. Even if most of them didn't escape, I would say it was a pretty successful escape.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Robots generally annoy me. And touching family movies, whether sci-fi or drama also annoy me. When Haley Joel Osment was young and not scary looking he wasn't a bad actor, and probably the only child actor I don't hate. Again, I can't really name what it is that I like so much, but it's just altogether an enjoyable movie. It is also one of the few movies where I have ALMOST cried (I'm a cold emotionless person), obviously at the end. I don't know why, I never cry.

Love Actually 2003,  R)
Love Actually
Again, I say this in every romantic movie. I hate them, but for some reason I really, really like Love Actually.

I have no idea why, but there was good music, the acting was good (except for Fug Knightley, can't stand her in anything), and it was funny. And enjoyable. Which is the most important thing.

The Rules of Attraction
I first saw this when I was either 12 or 13 (in 2003/2004), and I rewatched it in September 2009, but I didn't remember any of it except for the main guy being on the phone and mentioning Patrick Bateman and since I liked American Psycho I thought it was cool.

Anyway, recently I have started watching Dawson's Creek, and I remembered about this movie so thought I'd rewatch it. The first thing I'll say is how different James Van Der Beek's character is in this from Dawson's Creek and that may have contributed to the high rating. It was also quite funny.

It didn't seem to be about anything, but I just really enjoyed it. The one scene I will mention is the suicide scene, which is the most amazing scene I have seen in my life. There is only one other scene in any movie that has ever affected me and that was the Winkie's scene in Mulholland Dr. which scared the flippin' hell out of me, I couldn't stop shaking for hours. Anyway, this scene was perfect. Not only did I like the song playing, it was a perfect choice, the directing was amazing and the weird muffling of the music was awesome (for some reason I always like that in movies). Although I didn't think it was sad, the scene was just so perfect and amazing that it brought me to tears, which is extremely gay and retarded but it was just... so damn amazing.

sex, lies, and videotape
I hate Andie MacDowell and whatever genre you would classify this as. The reason the movie is good is James Spader. His acting, his movements and possibly his hair make the movie what it is. What would otherwise be a boring movie, is an interesting film with a character who I thought was so awesome I named my first external hard-drive after them (Graham).
