Valley Girl 1983,  R)
Valley Girl
My all time favorite movie! Caused me to fall in love with Nicolas Cage. He plays Randy, a punk rocker from Hollywood. Debby Foreman is brilliant as Julie, the Valley Girl he falls in love with. Their fight to be together, despite the disapproval of her shallow friends, makes this a great romance. TOTALLY awesome film, FER SHURR!!!!!!!!

Zodiac 2007,  R)
Zodiac
A must see! Excellent movie in every way! Long but never lost my interest. This has got to be one of 2007's best movies. It is intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The director also does a brilliant job of recreating the San Francisco of the late 60's. Highly highly recommend it.
3
Ed Wood 1994,  R)
Ed Wood
A classic! Funny and brilliantly done by Tim Burton. Johnny Depp is amazing as the angora-wearing worst director of all time. Great supporting parts, too, especially Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. He is absolutely hysterical in a number of scenes ("Pull da strings!!!" "Karloff? Sidekick? F*@# YOU!!!") and tugs at your heart in others. I love to watch this movie time and time again.
4
Saturday Night Fever 1977,  R)
Saturday Night Fever
How could anyone NOT love Saturday Night Fever? John Travolta is amazing. His dance moves are stellar and his acting is top-notch. Don't forget, he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for this film. Just a classic, and I love the music, too...this was my life in the late 70's!
5
The Graduate 1967,  PG)
The Graduate
What can you say about this movie? It's a classic, pure and simple. My favorite part is the wedding scene...Dustin Hoffman banging on the glass in the church screaming "ELAINE!!!!" It had quite an effect on a 13-year-old girl. ;)
6
Taxi Driver 1976,  R)
Taxi Driver
One of the best movies ever made. Martin Scorsese's directing is brilliant, and Robert DeNiro is scary as hell but simply amazing in this movie. "You talkin' to me?" GREAT SCENE! This film is very graphically violent at the end, but it is also an incredible look inside a psychopath's mind. DeNiro portrays the disturbed taxi driver, Travis Bickle, in a role that has to be one of the best acting jobs ever. Taxi Driver should have swept the Oscars that year. It remains a brilliant piece of work.
7
Hollywoodland 2006,  R)
Hollywoodland
This is a fantastic film. The movie beautifully captures the Hollywood of the late 50's and the acting is superb. LOVED it.
8
The Pianist 2002,  R)
The Pianist
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT film. Roman Polanski's direction is brilliant and Adrian Brody is amazing in his Oscar-winning role.
9
Gone With the Wind 1939,  G)
Gone With the Wind
Oh how I give a damn about this movie. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh...BIG SIGHS!
10
Raising Arizona 1987,  PG-13)
11
The Piano 1993,  R)
12
The Others 2001,  PG-13)
The Others
If you like psychological thrillers in your horror movies rather than slasher flicks, you will LOVE The Others. Nicole Kidman is incredible as the young mother who seems to be focused on the safety of her young children. There is much more than meets the eye, though. This movie had the best shocker of an ending I've ever seen. A great film, but don't watch it alone!
13
The Sixth Sense 1999,  PG-13)
14
The Breakfast Club 1985,  R)
The Breakfast Club
One of the best movies featuring an ensemble acting cast. Judd Nelson is perfect as the bad boy, the one all of us girls fell for by mistake of course. Molly Ringwald is the Goody Two Shoes, and Ally Sheedy is wonderful as the errr...disturbed one of the bunch. I love this movie and the soundtrack rocks, too.
15
Carrie 1976,  R)
Carrie
Great horror classic. This movie scared the hell out of me at the theater when it first came out, especially the final scene. Piper Laurie is incredibly creepy, and Sissy Spacek is awesome. A must see.
16
Hocus Pocus 1993,  PG)
Hocus Pocus
A Halloween MUST! Gotta love Bette Midler with the fake buck teeth! Kathy Najimy is hysterical and Sarah Jessica Parker is a dumb blonde witch. Very entertaining movie!
17
Happy Feet 2006,  PG)
Happy Feet
Way too cute! I absolutely loved the animation and storyline, and the music is fantastic.
18
Dazed and Confused 1993,  R)
Dazed and Confused
This is how high school WAS in the 70's. All of the people I went to school with are in this film, the jocks, the bitches, the burnouts...what a great movie. The soundtrack kicks ass too. Watch for Ben Affleck as the bully. Definitely one of my all-time favorite movies.
19
Bridge to Terabithia 2007,  PG)
Bridge to Terabithia
Bridge is one of my very favorite children's books, and this movie version did not disappoint. Annasophia Robb and Josh Hutcherson are perfectly cast as Leslie and Jess. This film teaches some important lessons about friendship, loyalty, bullying, growing up, and loss. The cinematography is also breathtakingly beautiful at times. Be warned, if you're not familiar with the book, it is a tearjerker. I showed this film to my 4th graders and they were enthralled and deeply moved. I highly recommend you see this touching, lovely movie.
