What can I say? It's Fellini! This is one of his greatest. Every scene is a masterpiece of cinematography and film making. He makes it look so simple yet visually stunning. There is always so much going on in each frame that it has become difficult to watch. I keep rewinding and watching each scene over and over. His characters are over the top yet somehow just normal people. his scripts are amazing as well as he makes every word count. While this could be considered a simple story, there is nothing 'simple' about Fellini. I found the story an tragic comedy full of irony that somehow manages a smile at the end. He was,,,is the Shakespeare of film! I don't think there is a film made that is not influenced by him!
This is an epic film and story. The story is good and the script outstanding. John Ford made some of the greatest westerns of all time and here he managed to make one of the greatest films of all time!
This is one of the greatest films ever made. It is the quintessential American Christmas Carol! I watched the Blue Rey color version just for fun. I've never seen it so clear.
Although this movie's story is predictable and a little preachy, the movie is a joy to watch. Especially in 3D! I actually enjoyed not being distracted by the story and being able to just let go and watch. Not only is this the best 3D I've seen but the best blend of live and animated characters. IN addition, I must say that Sam Worthington's performance is exceptional! He stole the show in Terminator and is definitely the star of Avatar.
This is a great film, western or not! Lee marvin is outstanding! John Wayne is at his best as John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart is excellent in between the two. Vera Miles rises to the occation and puts in a great performance. I should not overlook Andy Devine and Edmund O'Brian of this all star cast in what I consider one of John Fords best films.
My expectations were low for this film far exceeded them. The story was great and the screenplay outstanding considering all the action. I think this will become a Sci-Fi classic. There is a film doc on the Blu-Ray about the making of this movie with Red One cameras. It is very interesting. This movie is great!
Of coarse you would think of the music when you think of a musical but this film exceeds in many other areas. It was filmed in Super Panavision 70 which yields a 65mm negative. Big and wide! Beautiful sets (filmed on the back lot of Warner Bros., Studios), and outstanding costumes for which the film won an oscar. I'm not sure who the cinematographer was under the direction of George Cukor but this film featured some interesting and unusual shots which also set it apart from other films of the same character. This is a film I never get tired of watching and if you've not recently watched it in widescreen, then see it again! Id you don't like musicals, turn off the sound and be visually mesmerized!
