Fellini tells the story of a director who has lost his vision, only that in reality that was Fellini's personal dilemma as well. The entire film is a constant battle of truths conflicting with illusions and deceptions. Creative camera work andn a black and white color scheme give that shadowy dream like quality. Complicated and symbolic a true work of art.
It is more than a quirky romantic comedy. Amelie demonstrates the power of childhood and the retreat into a world of imagination. The film plays with the viewers by letting them enter this place of make-believe that is the film. The characers are beautifully introduced and their relationships are not trivial. The quiet, complicated protagonist must learn to take risks to find personal satisfaction and to obtain real love.
How many films initiate with the bitter end of a relationship and work their way to the beginning? This is a thought provoking movie about relationships, memories, ethics, science and fate. Even though both characters undergo this procedure and are supposed to have lost all recollection of one another and their ruined lovelife, they find themselves still attracted and at the beginning of a new reunion. the film style is remarkable, the director uses many ol-school techniques like trap doors and designed sets. Overall this is one of my favorite movies.
Where am I going in life? What direction should I take? What matters most to me? Ambitions, Careers, Kids, Marriage, Money or Friendship? The characters in this film seem to have drifted through life not knowing what it is that makes them happy. Bob Harris (Murray) has already experienced a long succesful career, but now he is past the days of making films and he is winding down his career with talk-show interviews and commercials. He finds himself in Japan with no real knowledge of the culture or customs and he is ultimately lost literally and metaphorically. what next? then he finds Charlotte, a young but also aimless young woman who doesn't have anyone to turn to to share her anxieties and insecurities. The two have an intimate and beautiful realtionship that is rare in Hollywood nowadays. It's plutonic and classy.
This is a film that I have a very strong attachment to and it has influenced my entire life. While in highschool, my media group had amazing connections and I met the makers of this documentary. That day I held an Academy Award.
But aside from that, this film gave me critical insight into the real roles of artists in society. Is it enough to just create or isn't it better to change? I think this piece has given inspiration to us all that art can be used to make our world a more humane and intelligent place. This film puts the hardships of Calcutta in the audience's immediate view but it does not accept it as a sad way things are. it challenges it and attemptsd to bring about change to these children who without intervention were destined to live a circle of poverty and prostitution.
Murrow is one of the most amzing journalist in history. He sees television like any other tool, it may be used for both good and bad. ultimately, he is right that commercial advertising and sponsers have warped the original intelligent and artistic use of programming. Just look at reality tv. But during a time when speculation arose around any name that dared to question or critize, Murrow challenged McCarthy himself. Murrow did so in a way that left McCarthy in stupor and there was little to be done to help his image. Just imagine anyone went Murrow on Bush right now... that would be the day. Overall Clooney did a remarkable job with this film.
The Beatles music sets the stage with this artsy, stylistic musical film. It is cinematically gorgeous. Much like the earlier rock operas, the colors and scenes take on a psychedelic aura. Telling of a time when war, liberalism, activism, rebellion and patriotism were being used defined and re-defined everyday. wow. Come to think of it, some things stay the same. This movie is definitely a great way to find the present in the past but to also to see some new changes to the classics.
