The Book of Eli 2010, R)
10/10 for the A-Grade Christian film. I am beyond impressed by the Hughes Brothers. Capturing the escence of Christianity, minus the usual B-(possibly C)Grade sappy story/acting ability and managing the appeal the modern day audience through copious amounts of blood shed. As usual, Denzel rocks my world with his powerful character portrayal and Mila proves expectations aren't the be all and end all and moves beyond her Jackie stigma. Gritty and dirty, but there is still a heart to this story. |

The Departed 2006, R)
Possibly Scorsese's best work, but that is a big call. I loved Leonardo's emotionally distubred Costigan, Queenan and Dignam's good cop/bad cop duo, Jack reliving the same sanity level experienced in Kubrick's 'The Shining'. However, the character that stood out to me was Sullivan. Seeing Matt Damon playing the bad guy for a change was an experience. Good intensity, good dialogue and brilliant camera angles. |

Fight Club 1999, R)
Edward Norton and Brad Pitt at their finest. The characters are as grimy as the film is gritty. Think of one of the many coming of age stories, combine it with a Tarrantino film and leave it to rest in a sanatarium for some time and the result is 'Fight Club'. However, an aquired taste is required. I love every minute of it. |

Kick-Ass 2010, R)
Not what I was expecting at all. Think 'Watchmen' meets 'Superbad' and thats pretty close to what to expect from 'Kick-Ass'. Filled with the typical humour as seen throughout movies such as 'Superbad' and 'Knocked Up', however 'Kick-Ass' takes a whole new level and becomes quite heavy... emotionally. It was brilliant. |

Shutter Island 2010, R)
True to the book. A wonderful adaptation. It was exactly as I had imagined it. I loved the dramatic music teamed with the haunting loud silences. One of Scorsese's best. An interesting choice on his behalf, compared to his usual films, but he deffinatley proved himself worthy. I loved every minute of it. |

American Beauty 1999, R)
I have yet to see a bad Kevin Spacey film. The hightened simplicity of every day issues, maginifed and juxtaposed with Pleasentville-like surroundings. As real as the film appears, there is just something off putting lurking amongst the back drop. A spectacular ensamble, a real treat for those who like to look beyond the square they live in. |
