American Beauty
One of the most amazing movies ever made, American Beauty is a slice of suburbia that will make you laugh and cry. Brillance in every sense of the word.
5
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
Still the best, the effects are gritty but effective, and the plot is ingeiously delicious. The dialogue is awful, but there is no denying the brillance of a good story.

Pan's Labyrinth 2006,  R)
Pan's Labyrinth
Spellbinding drama and amazing visuals are order of the day. Pan's Layrinth is no kids film and is no fairytale. Its a harrowing, gothic tale of hope, forgiveness and faith like you have never seen it before. Not for the faint of heart.

11
21 Grams 2003,  R)
21 Grams
Watts was robbed of her award for her performance in this film. 21 Grams is a gutwrenching, emotional work of art, an amazing movie with such incredible imagery and poised direction. Understated work of brillance.
12
The Constant Gardener 2005,  R)
The Constant Gardener
I added this to my DVD collection as an impulse purchase, but its amazing what a second viewing can reveal. A deeply effecting love story, with an emotional sense of loss, combine with some excellent, thought provoking plotting and excellent acting from a standout ensemble. Proof that you can't get the full experience from a single viewing.
13

Natalie Portman steals the show in Scrubs' Braff's debute feature. Lots of heart and laughs give this an air of whimsy, not to mention a killer soundtrack.
14
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
Sin City is probably the first real comic book movie. Ripped straight from the pages and wacked on the screen, it drips of style and sustance. One of the most surreal and intense experiences a movie can offer. Awesomely enjoyable!
15
Finding Nemo 2003,  G)
Finding Nemo
Unique characters and a charming, simple story are the stars here. The visuals are stunning as well. Its just a fun, happy movie.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Still the benchmark of live action and animation combination, Who Framed Roger Rabbit stands the test of time as a family favourte movie and a classic to boot.
19
Traffic 2000,  R)
Traffic
Strong images, vital message and top performances all around. Traffic is confronting at the best of times, horrifying at the worst. Imperetive viewing.
20
The Ring 2002,  PG-13)
The Ring
Gore Verbiniski is one of the most underrated directors, and this proves it. Visually dark and creepy, despite the chessiness from the dialgoue.
21
Back to the Future 1985,  PG)
Back to the Future
By and far the best of the three, and still one of the funniest movies. The time travel idea is not new, but the idea of going back and seeing how your parents lived is one that we can all relate to.
