The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) 1966,  R)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.)
The greatest western ever made and one of the best overall films of all time. The score and camerawork alone makes it an unforgettable experience.
2
Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Comes so close to trumping Pulp Fiction, it's ridiculous. Tarantino is pound-for-pound the best and most consistent director working today. Not only has he not made a bad movie yet, he hasn't even made a mediocre movie, either. Simply put, this movie is pure, concentrated ass-kickery.
3
Kill Bill, Volume 2 2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
If Volume 1 was Tarantino's tribute to Sonny Chiba and Shaw Brothers flicks, then Volume 2 is definitely a love letter to Sergio Leone. A masterful screenplay paired with compelling acting and that dynamic je ne sais quoi that only Tarantino can produce makes for a modern classic.
4
Requiem for a Dream 2000,  R)
Requiem for a Dream
It feels like a punch in the gut and it stays with you long after you've seen it. Possibly the greatest anti-drug addiction movie ever made and arguably the best movie of the new millenium.
5
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
Oozing style and endless artistic brilliance, Rodriguez and Miller have created the best comic movie made so far as well as given birth to a new visual style in film. Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro and Miokey Rourke disappear into their roles and literally become them. A true landmark of cinema.
6
Heat 1995,  R)
Heat
If you didn't already know, this movie has the greatest shootout/gunfight of all time (it's also realistic and accurate), which is reason enough to experience this crime epic. Michael Mann has made the end-all, be-all of cops and robbers films with Heat. Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer bring their A-game and own their roles completely.
7
The Last of the Mohicans 1992,  R)
8
Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)
9
Pulp Fiction 1994,  R)
10
Jackie Brown 1997,  R)
11
Grindhouse 2007,  R)
Grindhouse
Pure fun, plain and simple. Rodriguez and Tarantino "get it." And the audience benefits because of it.
12
Desperado 1995,  R)
