This is one of Vincent Kartheiser's shining moments as an actor. As the seemingly good natured, but emotionally tormented Tommy, his emotions run the gamut from shyness, to sensativity, to psychotic. Andy Garcia is equally compelling as Michael the psychologist who tries to unlock the hidden secrets inside the younger man's soul, all the while grappling with his own demons over his son's death & the increasing rift between himself and his rebellious daughter.
This is one of my favorite indie films. Juliette Lewis is particularly convincing as the pregnant "surrogate" mom & Phillippe & Del Toro are at times hilarious as the bungling criminals!!!!
This one's weird...you have to watch it without pausing to get the plot. Savage's charecter is a sadistic sicko. On the up side though, the two little boys are ADORABLE!!!!!
Very scary, but hey if somebody like me has to have a messiah, Edward Furlong would be it, although at first I hated his charecter & saw him as pure evil, at the end, I actually wound up feeling sorry for the guy.
This is one of those foreign films that people have to see at bleast once. The story is slightly tedious as are the subtitles, but this movie just goes to prove that Vincent Perez is a star no matter what country or language he's tackling!!!
Stays pretty true to Conrad's story. Very sad, but very accurate for a period peice & Vincent Perez was very convincing as a non English speaking man in an environment which is at the very least unsettling to him.
I'm a sucker for based on true stories movies, & this one is all-in-all very good. It showed not only the beauty of Africa, but it's cruelty. Kim badinger does a wonderful job of playing a woman who faces increadible trumphs & heartbreaking tragedies & handles them strength & dignity. Basinger's movie choices most of the time are questionable, but this & her role in 8 Mile prove what she's capable of as an actress when she's given strong charecters to play. seeing Vincent Perez nearly naked (His body is a work of art to behold!) was an extra added bonus.
This movie is very deceiving in a way. You have a doctor (Streep) & an artist (Neeson) presenting the perfect life in a rural New England town with their kids. But after the son is accused of murder everything seemingly falls apart under a web of deciet. How these two charecters manage to stay married is a wonder to me. Ultimately what saves this movie from being an unqualified disaster is Edward Furlong, who as the troubled Jacob, runs the gamut of emotions & who is ultimately responsible for bringing this family together. Particularly touching are the scenes between furlong & his onscreen sister, however if you read the book that this film is based on, you'll very quickly realize that the relationship is severly toned down for the screen (In the book, the brother sister bond boarders on incestuous, sorry if I'm giving too much away.).
The farewell that the series never got. this movie is how a Sci-fi western should be done, though unless you are a fan, you probably won't get the plot. I particularly love Adam Baldwin (Jayne) & Summer Glau (River). Nice visual effects all around.
This should be required viewing in high schools, I think all races & cultures could take something away from this, especially when Furlong's charecter is relating through his assignment what his brother told him about being in prison. It's also nice to see how Norton's charecter changes his viewpoints based on those experiences, all the while understanding the world that he's living in & how in spite of his transformation, that the situation seems about as likely to change as global warming is to stop (I know this is a bad analogy, sorry.).
Deborah Kerr is splendid as the woman who meets her true love on a luxury liner, only to almost miss her opprotunity when cruel fate steps in. this one harkens back to a time when films were about glitz & glamour: Both Kerr & Grant are dressed impeccably & the early scenes on the ship alwasys make me long to go to the nearest high end liquor store & try to find a bottle of pink champagne. If you see this one once, you're hooked!!!!
James Dean was undoubtedly the most intense & visually appealing actor of his generation & this is one of his best preformances on film. His romantic scenes with Natalie Wood are absolutely dreamy, & one can simply cannot help but be captivated by her eyes!!!! If i had a list of my all time best films, this would be one of them, & many of the themes of teenage angst & rebellion ring true today, right down to the inaffective, & often times abusive & neglectful parents. This is one that parents need to sit down with their teens & watch.
Ricki Lake gave all of us akward girls hope that we too could make it on a nationally televised dance show, although I suppose today's equivilent would be AI or America's Got Talent!!!! Everytime I see this movie on cable, I find myself drawn into repeating phrases that Edna, Penny's mom, Amber's mom, or Motormouth says, it's almost as addficting as going to Rocky Horror!!!! HMMMM....could there be a new trend on the horizon???? Althouggh I want to see the new version mainly to see John Travolta in drag, he could never hold a candle to Divine!!!!!
I love this movie & I'm so glad most of the original Broadway cast was able to be a part of it. I especially love Adam Pasca as Roger. His ability to emote the complex emotional highs & lows post heroin addiction are riviting, plus in terms of raw musical talent (He'd never acted onstasge before he did Rent & was therefore unschooled in musical theater!), he handled all of his vocal preformances with astonishing skill. I also loved seeing that the genuine rapport & love between his charecter & Mark (Anthony Rapp) was still there almost a decade later.
This was a fantastic example of the emotional rage of Vincent Kartheiser. As Mason, the troubled teenaged boy trapped in a small Idaho town, living with emotionally detached parents and friends who have nothing better to do than smoke Meth, he puts in a stellar preformance, particularly in scenes with Mare Winningham , who plays his mentally unstable mother, and Taryn Manning, who plays Danny, the girl who shows Mason that even in the face of ugliness & despair, you can still find love.
This was downright spooky. The Trickster makes The Cryptkeeper look like a third rate puppet on some horifficly bad late late show. Up until the end, I though Edward Furlong's charecter was actually killing people. I saw The Visitation & didn't even bat an eyelash, but this had me shaking. An added bonus is that the special FX were good for the time, and in light of some of the video games that are out today (HALO), this premise doesn't seem quite as cheesy as it appears. BRILLANT!!!!
Jimmy & Judy is 100 times better & more relevant than Natural Born Killers. Edward Furlong puts in an impressive preformance as Jimmy, the guy from whose keen & yet wharped perspective (Via the camera lens) we see the world. Rachel Bella is absolutely endearing and sweet as Judy. the high school outcast as well as Jimmy's muse and partner in crime. i wish we had more indie films of this stature coming out.
Every time i see this movie, since the first time, I want to cry because I know it's based on a true story and that the actual 15 year old died for no reason. I sincerely hope that this film opens up people eyes to teen crime, drtug dealing, & gang behavior & provides some measure of justice to the victim's family & friends. As for the killer: I HOPE HE FRIES!!!!
