Eyes Wide Shut 1999,  R)
Eyes Wide Shut
An amazing movie. I loved every second of it. Tom Cruise was great for this role, with his confidence and ability to pull off that stiff 90s characterization. His and Kidman's acting was great.

I thought the movie shed light to the common conception of sexual exploration in American society. Peoples' obsession with power, sexuality, and greed, which ultimately drives their personal relationships apart.

Kubrick pulls off another great job as the director. While the plot is seemingly dull at moments, Kubrick is able to keep your attention into the movie through his great us of the landscape and lighting.

I recommend this movie.

Trainspotting 1996,  R)
Trainspotting
Acting is great. McGregor plays a great drug addict. The cinematography is beyond words. The scene when McGregor goes 'cold turkey' should be studied by film students.

Closer 2004,  R)

Death at a Funeral 2007,  R)
Death at a Funeral
Funny as hell.
5
Cashback 2006,  R)
Cashback
Smart, clever, and funny. Attempts and successfully describes the emotions of men, and their love for womens' bodies as a form of art.
6
28 Days Later 2002,  R)
28 Days Later
Not your typical zombie movie. Boyle showed the importance of cinematography to a genre that generally didn't care at all for it. Using the empty landscape of London plus the great acting from Cillian Murphy, 28 Days Later shows the reality of what could happen if zombies were real.

28 Weeks Later... 2007,  R)
28 Weeks Later...
Great follow up to 28 Weeks Later, even though a different director. The first 15 minutes will make you jump out of your seat. Amazing zombie movie.

The French Connection 1971,  R)
The French Connection
The French Connection made Gene Hackman the serious, bad-ass, I don't-take-shit-from-no-one, he is.

For an early 1970s movie, The French Connection is years ahead with great acting and sharp plot.
9
The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
I was blown away by Aronofsky's work. The Fountain is a true love story unfolded in a way that makes you think, analyze, and actually feel the emotion of Jackman's character. There's three levels to this movie and once you understand it all you will be blown away.

When I thought Hugh Jackman could not get any better (from The Prestige), his performance is absolutely great.

The Libertine 2004,  R)
The Libertine
I let this movie not really getting it. Then I thought about the opening scene and what I just watched. Realizing the deep dynamics of the characters, the underlying message, and Depp's acting; I came to realize this movie has been severely neglected by critics and the media. A wonderful movie.

London 2005,  R)
London
Heart break and an examination of life in 1 and 1/2 hours. Evans is a monster in this role partly due to Statham's strong support. Funny, witty, and sexy.

3:10 to Yuma 2007,  R)
3:10 to Yuma
This movie single handily revitalized the Western genre for this decade.

Sin City 2005,  R)

In Bruges 2008,  R)
In Bruges
Do not let the trailer fool you, this is a good movie. The dark horse in the comedy genre. To enjoy this movie it will require: a dark and sarcastic sense of humor. Farrell et al. are great and show the deep dynamics of so-called "gangsters'" inter-selves.

The Prestige 2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
The best movie I have seen in the last two years. For me, The Prestige has set the bar. You will be interested and love this movie for the 2 1/2 hours. When it is done... you will want more!
