Pride and Prejudice 2005,  PG)
Pride and Prejudice
Loved the book, Loved the movie. The dialogue was even better than it was in the book in some scenes ! Really amazing job from Deborah Moggach who had to squeeze the novel into two hours or so. And the music by Dario Marianelli is GREAT. This is one of the best movie I ever saw. But of course there are some things I didn't like, P&P being my favourite novel, I can not help noticing the points on which the movie was not up to it. First of all, Pemberley is not how I would want it. Chatsworth is a bit big and pompous to be a good Pemberley. Lyme Park is more like it. Second thing is, there are some scenes that are totally incoherent with Regency. For example, Darcy just walks in at the Collinses, and enters Lizzie's room, when she's in her *nightgown*!? Oh, and his shirt half open in the last scene(s) as well. Well, they had to make up for the dive in the lake and the bath in some way, I guess... And there are also two characters I don't like the interpretation of : Bingley appears to be some sort daft fool, while he should be quite intelligent : "Bingley was by no means deficient, but Darcy was clever". Georgiana too, wasn't at all as described in the book. She's supposed to be shy! She's not supposed to go around saying "Brother, you must force her!". Their Darcy & Lizzie (and all the others, too), however, were PERFECT. And I know what I'll say is blasphemy to some, but I'll say it nonetheless : They're infinitely better than Colin Firth & Jennifer Elhe. As much as I like and admire Colin Firth, he simply has not the acting abilities Matthew Macfadyen has. But it's nothing next to Jennifer Ehle. First of all, she's American, and I wouldn't mind it if she could at least *fake* a decent British accent. But she can't -- I don't like her voice, at all. It's not a Lizzie voice. But the voice's nothing. She can't act with intensity! CF & her don't quarrel half as well as MM & KK do. I watched the serie's proposals, and it was very very inferior. I maintain my opinion that the only reason why people should like the series more than this one is because of the dive in the lake, and the bath.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long) 2003,  PG-13)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wo hu cang long)
One word: MASTERPIECE. From the way they're talking and the wonderful actors to the magnificent action choregraphy and love story, it's just the most perfect movie you could ever wish for.

V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
Pure genius. AMAZING. It's a really sad & touching story , very well directed, with some very good performances by Hugo Weaving, John Hurt and, of course, Nathalie Portman. Smart, touching, profound, brilliant. Really moving, too: I think the "God is in the rain" scene is one of the most powerful ones I ever saw.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
One of the best adaptations I've ever seen. Can't get enough of it. My favourite LOTR.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
One of the best adaptations I've ever seen.
6
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
One of the best adaptations I've ever seen. (Though I must say it is my least favourite of the 3 LOTR)

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
It's a wonderful movie, really deep and intelligent. Kaufman's writing is perfect, and the performances by Kate Winslet, of course, but also by Jim Carey who is at his very best since The Truman Show, are amazingly moving. Directed in a wonderful way too, particularly the part when Joel is being "operated".

Shakespeare in Love 1998,  R)
Shakespeare in Love
Must love it! Amazing love story, definitely one the best romantic comedy (well, tragedy actually) I have ever seen. (not counting Pride & Prejudice) And yet, it is so much more than a romantic tragedy! It's GREAT acting, from Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow (at her very best, from my limited experience), Geoffrey Rush, Colin Firth (with his little beard and his earing, he made me smile at every single scene he was in), and even Ben Affleck, who proved he was more than a star, but actually an actor, but above all, Judi Dench. Gosh, she won an oscar for 8 minutes' performance! It's very very good historically as well. It's accurate, which is great, because anachronisms piss me off exceedingly. Overall, Amazing movie.

Rory O'Shea Was Here (Inside I'm Dancing) 2004,  R)
Rory O'Shea Was Here (Inside I'm Dancing)
What extraordinary performance by Romola Garai, James McAvoy but, most of all by Steven Robertson. He was so believable as Michael that I thought he actually had cerebral palsy. An what a deep, touching story, too. It really made me cry and that is saying something because I really need to get into the movie to cry. Last time I did was while seeing LOTR back in 2003, and God knows how many movies I've seen in between.

Modern Times 1936,  G)
Modern Times
A Masterpiece: every second shows Chaplin's pure genius. So funny and yet so justly cruel to our crazy society. My favourite Charlie Chaplin movie.

Far Side of the Moon 2003,  R)
Far Side of the Moon
I just love Robert Lepage. Wondefully directed & wonderful performance. It's his definitely best movie.
12
Finding Neverland 2004,  PG)
Finding Neverland
Wonderful ! The actors are great and the story is so sad/touching. Some may say it's boring but I think it's not. You don't need guns and explosions for a movie to be spectacular. It's amazing.

The Sound of Music 1965,  G)
The Sound of Music
So cheesy but so lovely. I still now the lyrics by heart. Such a cute movie, loved it !
14
The Truman Show 1998,  PG)
The Truman Show
It's so sad and cute, yet disturbing by its futuristic (back then) views. Loved it. I can't find why but for some reason I can't get enough of it.
15
The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village
VERY good. I haven't seen such a great ending in a long while. Night Sayamalan is a genius.
