I have long ago made peace with the fact that I will always be susceptible to the jump scare. Even when I know it is coming and I try to prepapre myself, steeling against the inevitable screech of music and quick cut of film, I always find my body shuddering under the shock. Often, I have criticised films for their reliance on the jump scare, An American Haunting for example. There are other movies that are just a roller coaster of jumps that I have enjoyed, such as Boogeyman and the original The Grudge. Unfortunately, this sequel pales in comparison to the original......The Grudge 2 fails to sustain the mood, doesn't deliver the scares, and just has too much plot with too little story. There are three theads that wind through the movie, but they don't come together until the final minutes of the movie, and even then the point of juncture is sketchy at best. On top of that, the trailers give away something that would have had a lot more impact had it been first seen in the movie itself. I will spare the spoil for those who have been lucky enough not to see the ads, and are still interested in seeing it..
I thought this movie was really good. I'll admit the acting may not have been to it's full potential.. but I still thought it was pretty good. The movie is based on dancing and overall I thought the technique was very good. The talent displayed in this movie is extraordinary. The movie has romance, comedy, tragedy, and nearly everything else you would want in a good movie. The music in this movie is also really good. I would say this movie is well worth the money . Step Up is inspirational and was everything I was expecting it to be. I'd highly recommend seeing it. If you enjoyed the movie Save The Last Dance this is probably a good movie for you. I found this movie to be very uplifting.
I think this movie should have been called 'Ethan Hunt: Superman'. I think since Tom is one of the producers, he wants to go out with a bang. It is loaded with all out action; so much action that it is really quite unbelievable in parts. I thought the plot was a little weak, however it is certainly better than 'MI-2'. I was very disappointed that Philip Seymour Hoffman had such a small role. He does have a couple of good scenes, but does not appear to be a main character. This movie is all about Tom.
American Pie has all the ingredients of a good movie. First, the plot deals with young people in search of their first sexual experience. What could be more basic to the human condition? Second, although obviously fiction, the film has a feeling of reality capturing the awkwardness and anxiety of young people at this point in their lives. Third, it is well written and not always predictable as each young man employs his own strategy, and of course, in the real world things do not always go as planned. Fourth, the cast consists of very talented young actors playing characters which may remind the audience of people they may have known. Fifth, the film has its poignant moments. The final ingredient is this movie is hilarious. The film has one liners, sight gags, and situations that very funny. The audience, which ranged from teenagers to middle age, laughed almost constantly and out loud. CAUTION: This film is rated "R" for sexual situations and the use of alcohol by young people. If you are easily offended or sexual humor makes you uncomfortable, stay away. However, if you are not in the aforementioned, you may enjoy it.
'American Wedding' is a little less funny than both 'American Pie' and 'American Pie 2' but still has the shameless charm of the first two. It still wants the best for the main characters and especially the final sequences show us that.
I can be very short on the story. Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) are about to get married and this movie shows us a lot of things that could go wrong. Jim's best friends Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) show up and of course the movie could not do without Stifler (Seann William Scott) who is not very wanted. He and Finch like the same girl, Michelle's sister Cadence (January Jones). Eugene Levy shows up again as Jim's dad and together with Stifler he is the best thing in the movie once again.
Although the two movies before 'American Wedding' were a little more funny there are still enough shameless jokes to enjoy. Jason Biggs must have had so much humiliating moments that one more doesn't really matter and the opening sequence here sets the tone for him. Almost painful to watch, but very funny. It was too bad regulars like Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Tara Reid didn't show up for this sequel, but it didn't make it less funny. For a third part it is still very good..
I must say I like all the American Pie movies, but without the original cast I was a bit skeptical. This movie has all the crude humor and laughs that the others had. I enjoyed the character of Matt Stifler although I think they could have gone even farther with the making of the videos. Overall a very good teen flick that anyone can enjoy. I liked this better than most comedies lately and I hope that Matt and Elyse can return in "American Family" since Michelle was pregnant in this one. I think that would be a great way to end the series. I'm hoping that people give this movie a chance and realize that although the Stifler character is over the top, the movie does send a message. It's a funny and sometimes disgusting way to do so but definitely a worthy one indeed..
