The Wicker Man

A bizzare film of pagan rites and burning the good, with Christopher Lee in a wig and dress. The story is excellent, the acting not bad for the seventies, and the ending quite satisfying. The location of filming was gorgeous, with actual buildings and landmarks which add to the overall eerie character of the town and its inhabitants. A great film for a discussion group on relgious beliefs and their conflicts, Catholicism vs. paganism. Defintely more than the box says!
The Boondock Saints

This is a brilliant film about the driving need of man to protect himself and others from the evils corrupting our society. The two brothers take an Old Testament approach to justice when they begin to execute criminals in the Russian and Italian mafia. Great camera work, a glorious soundtrack and the rustic and real locations of Boston set the stage for the magnificant performances by Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery and Willem Defoe. The dark humor and beautiful hyms contrast both sides of good and evil in this film, and brings to the forefront the one-time hotly debated idea of killing in the name of God. This movie can be enjoyed for its messages, its humor, it's action, the character you coem to love, the elation you feel when the bad guys get whacked... It should be a must have in any movie collection.
