I've been waiting for this film for so incredibly long (3 years!) so I was expecting something amazing. And that's exactly what it was. Epic. Truly epic. I went and saw this film twice over opening weekend (first time I've ever done that). Once opening day in IMAX and again on Sunday and both times I was just entirely entranced by it. Everything about it was just perfect. The story. The characters. The themes. The acting was amazing and I'm sure by now everyone has either seen the film or at least heard the extreme praise that Heath Ledger is being given on his portrayal of the "agent of chaos", The Joker.
What can I really say about that performance other than it was just absolutely perfect? Everything he did to make it his own just amazed me. The voice he used, the way he was always licking his lips and just the way he could turn a rather scary or intense scene around on you and make you actually laugh. Every scene he was in just made it that much more exciting. This role of his will truly go down in history as iconic and will be remembered for generations.
Then of course there is Christian Bale returning as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He just brings such incredible talent to the screen and makes you believe that he really was born to play this character. He's played roles on both side of the spectrum of good and evil - Jesus and Patrick Bateman - and once you've accomplished something like that you know that you can play anything. He was largely the reason why the first film was so successful and I can honestly say that I can't picture anyone else being Batman ever again after this. I commend him for his genius and envy him for his brilliance.
As for Harvey Dent being played by Aaron Eckhart, I was actually a bit thrown off when I first heard he was playing him. I had never really seen anything with him in it, but I had heard he was a good actor. Then there was the fact that he was blonde and I always just remember Harvey having brown hair, but I suppose it goes along with the plot a bit (if that was even considered?). Anyways, I thought he did a great job at playing the lawful D.A. of Gotham and I really enjoyed how he found himself spiraling downward into madness and corruption known as Two-Face. It was inevitable to anyone that knows even a little bit about Dent's back story. I also loved how really the whole story turned out to be about Harvey and his arc as a character. It was wonderful in my eyes.
I was sooo happy when I heard they replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal. Katie Holmes had absolutely ZERO chemistry with Bale and it showed horribly on screen in the first one. Not to mention she's just not a very good actor. I thought Maggie did a much better job simply with her presence on screen and brought a somewhat more realistic essence to the character overall. She seemed much more real and not as hardnosed as in Batman Begins.
Basically, the actors did an amazing job overall. It was a dream cast.
As for the movie in it's entirety, it felt very much like a crime drama and not so much a superhero/comic book movie. The plot was generally very realistic. I enjoyed The Joker's rise to power within the Mob. The script was just amazing and the scenes were spectacular. Those IMAX cameras certainly bring the quality of those scenes shot with them up quite a bit. They were all very well done and just the entire movie was entertaining even with his two and a half hour length. It went by so fast. I don't think there was any slow parts throughout the entire movie. Everything that was shown was relevant to what was happening. The only thing I do wish they did was actually make a few scenes slightly longer. Like the scene that took place in Bruce's penthouse when the party was taking place. I would have like to see the Joker a bit more rather than just have it cut off after at a certain part. What happened exactly afterwards?
Aside from a few minor flaws that the film had, it was utterly fantastic and has since moved up to the top of my favorite's list permanently (until now I've never really had a for sure favorite film, so this is just awesome). Everything was just so well done and the story is compelling that it's hard to not enjoy it. If you haven't seen this movie, I strongly recommend you do. On the big screen preferably. Your ten dollars is completely worth an experience like that.
There's so much to be said about this amazing movie. I can't even express how wonderful it is. I remember when it first came out and I kept seeing the trailer for it on TV. At the time I wasn't much of a movie fan, or at least not into knowing who the actors were. I just thought the movie looked fun so when it finally came out I was one of the first in the theaters. But wow, anyone who says that they don't like this movie is either trying to pretend that they don't so they can get out of mainstream opinion or they just don't know a good movie when they see one. Fantastic really. This film has something for everyone. Swashbuckling action, pirates, humor, a love story, a treasure hunt, a wonderful plot and of course some brilliant actors. The characters were just incredible. You won't cross paths with too many people that don't know the name Captain Jack Sparrow anymore. That will no doubt go down as one of the most memorable roles of all time thanks to Johnny Depp's amazing performance. EVERYONE should see this movie. It's just too good to miss.
I love Batman and I think that Christian Bale just nailed Bruce's personality perfectly. He didn't have a one set character that he played throughout the film, but rather about three separate ones. His billionaire playboy facade, Batman and his true self. His performance was just amazing. With all respect to the other actors that played Bruce/Batman, I personally believe that he's the one that we've been waiting for to really let that character shine through for what he really is rather than what Hollywood wanted him to be, a dark, obsessive character. The entire storyline just seemed so realistic compared to it's earlier counterparts. It drew you in more because it actually made it feel real or like it all could actually happen. I used to watch Batman: The Animated Series every single day after school when I was younger so I've always really wanted to see a movie that was more real rather than a spoof of what Batman should be. The performances were amazing by all of the actors in the movie. However, I felt that Katie Holmes just couldn't hold her own in the presence of such great actors. I just didn't think her performance was very believable. Thank god they're switching her out for Maggie in TDK!
One of my absolute favorite movies. It's kind of either a love it or hate it movie, at least that's been my experience with other people. I personally love it to pieces. I love the suspended reality that this movie gives to the viewer with all of the impossible stories weaved into one another. I love how it's just so unbelievably intoxicating with the unbelievable visuals and just the overall story. And I thought Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job with this film. He just caused his character to seem so welcoming no matter what and had such a kind personality. The ending was great and always makes me cry, the story about Bloom and his son was amazing too. That took it to an entirely different emotional level. This film = love.
Incredibly funny. That about sums it up. I've seen this movie so many times, and for being a Christmas movie, I can really watch it any time of the year. Will is so funny in this movie, which for me is different since I'm not exactly a huge fan of his other comedies. I honestly didn't think I'd like it when I first heard about it, thinking it was just a stupid kids film that I could never really get into. But wow, was I wrong. My sister and I often times find ourselves repeating some of the lines in the movie in different situations, like singing in the store. And now whenever we see an escalator, the first thing that pops into our heads is that of Buddy the Elf experiencing his first ride. It's a great movie, and even if you think you won't like it, I really do encourage you to take a second thought on it and just give it a try. Hopefully you'll find it just as hilarious as I did.
"Are you watching closely?" Just an incredible visually appealing film all around. The cast was amazing with Christian Bale stealing the show with his portrayal of the mysterious yet arrogant Borden. The whole idea that two people would go to such lengths in outdoing one another is just unfathomable which is one of the reasons why this film has such a psychological hold on the viewers. I went and saw this twice while it was in theaters which I rarely ever do. This was a special case however. It is now apart of my DVD collection.
What an amazing movie. Honestly. I've always had a soft spot for musicals. I've been watching them ever since I was a little kid. Add that with Johnny Depps talent and the incredibly dark vision of Tim Burton and you get something rather remarkable for something that could have turned out horribly. I would recommend this movie for any fan of Burton or Depp's work, however, I would like to point out that if you are squeamish I should warn you that there are a few rather closeup neck and knife shots that even I, as well as the rest of the theater, squirmed around in our seats for. As for the acting and singing, I would have to say that it was excellent for actors that you normally do not see singing their dialogue. The acting was wonderful as well, however, the character that kept catching my eye was that of Mrs. Lovett. I really enjoyed Carter's performance. She brought a light-hearted feel to a story that was inevitably a story of revenge and would have been much more overpoweringly dark and dreary without her. The little glimpse into her dreams of the future aside the sea was rather cute. I loved Depp's performance as Todd there, even if he didn't speak a word. Anyways, much love to this film. I plan on buying it on DVD when it comes out.
It was so good. I loved the chases that took place at Waterloo station and through Tangier. The action sequences were amazing and I just love the character of Jason Bourne. I thought the ending was good as well.
A beautiful story about the forbidden romance between a courtesan and a writer. The musical scores are amazing and who would have thought that our Obi Wan Kenobi had such an incredible voice?
Hands down one of my favorite movies of all time. The music and events added together with the incredible acting skills of non other than Tom Hanks just makes this film a must see for everyone.
I really enjoy this movie. It has an amazing cast, which in my opinion, makes the movie work. Having anyone else in those roles, especially that of Clooney's, Pitt's and Damon's would have thrown it off a bit. Just the entire scheme that they cook up is fun and how they have all of these different things going on at one time.
This has been one of my favorite movies for a long time. I remember when it came out when I believe I was about 7 years old. I personally liked the first half of the movie alot more than the second, but maybe that's just because it's a bit more light-hearted. Either way, the acting was great and hurled Leonardo Dicaprio to the top of the A-List actors.
I just really, really like this movie. I've always been a fan of Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage and Ed Harris then put them all into a movie with a gripping story and it's just amazing.
Ok, I LOVE this movie. It may be older, but it's still just as suspenseful, possibly more so, then any movie coming out now. Anthony Perkins gives an amazing performance that I won't soon forget.
A great movie that displays the desperate times of a kind man who gives everything to everyone around him resulting in him falling into a pit of despair when things go wrong. However, "what goes around comes around" is the basis of this movie, as well as human nature.
One of the best known musicals of our time, this story of the Von Trapp family along with the beautiful voice of Julie Andrews keeps a light-hearted feel to the film as a whole. A classic.
The on-screen chemistry is incredible and is one of the reasons that make this movie work so well. The dialogue between the two is definitely something to watch the movie for.
Out of all of the Indiana Jones movies this has to be my favorite. I love how they placed Sean Connery as Indiana's father and just the quest that they're on this time makes me claim this as my favorite. The obstacles he must face to get the Holy Grail just adds to the excitement.
A very touching story about a widow, her sons and a married man. The fantastic visions of imagination that are displayed in the film make is almost seem surreal.
I just watched this movie recently and really liked it. The action sequences were amazing, yes, but my personal favorite part about this movie is Christian Bale's performance of a man coming into his emotion that have long since been suppressed by societies standards. When he wakes up from that dream and gets up and rips the window covering off, I just had goosebumps from the intensity. It's just amazing how you get to see someone who has never had any real, extreme emotions to suddenly come into their own.
I came across a picture after my initial review of this movie of Bale's character broken down in the middle of a building's steps just sobbing uncontrollably and I actually started tearing up because it took me back to that moment in the film and just how intense and emotional it was. Even now, just thinking about it is causing me to tear up again. For that to happen months after the first viewing, you know his performance and the scene has to be great. I really do suggest you watch this movie. If not for the emotional part, than for the amazing gun fights.
I remember watching this version of Batman much more than the older one, simply because this one was on when I was younger. This is definitely a much more twisted and sadistic take on The Joker than what I was used to but I thought it made it just that much more good.
This is an incredible film. The desperation of humankind paired with that of hope and humor. The musical scores are fantastic and the general story is interesting.
I love this movie. I thought Kevin Spacey did a wonderful job as his newsreporter character and just the overall feel of the movie makes this one of my favorites.
Wow, what an amazing film. It is a must see for any movie fan. Just the way the scenes are shot is enough to give you the shivers, and the acting! Tom Hanks is most certainly at his best. The beginning scene on Omaha Beach as well as the ending when they're standing their ground at the bridge, both just leave my in awe no matter how many times I watch the movie. It actually feels like you're right there with them and because of that makes you feel the horror and suspense that they felt. Seriously, everyone should see this movie. If you haven't already, go out and rent it.
Love this movie. I just recently watched it for the first time and just really enjoyed it. I liked how there was so much conflict, yet at the same time, there was understanding from everyone on some level. Plus I thought the ending was cute.
Love this movie. My mom and sister laugh at me because I know all of the words to the songs and often sing along with them, but what can you expect when I've been watching these holiday specials since I was 4? Love this movie to death.
Wow, this is an amazing movie. The way Hitchcock kept the main character in confinement, away from doing anything himself and relying on others to do things for him was brilliant. The part where Kelly is in the other man's apartment and begins to strangle her is startling, not because of the actual action taking place, but because of way Jimmy Stewart acts in a way of utter helplessness of saving her. It really was amazing. Very good movie. I would recommend it to everyone.
I cry every time I see this movie. It's a wonderful idea really that someone so young could come up with. I thought Kevin Spacey was amazing in his role. I really felt the emotion during his scenes.
Sooo good. I first watched this during my government class a couple of years ago. I've seen it many times since. James Stewart was amazing in my opinion. I've always loved his movies and this one was no different. His speech and breakdown at the end of the film always moves me.
Seriously, it is so funny. I got it last Christmas and since then I've watched it so many times. I just love everything about the movie. Makes me laugh everytime.
Okay, seriously one of my all time favorite movies. I used to watch this over and over again when I was younger and sing and dance along with the songs. It's just stuck with me until and I don't think it'll be leaving me anytime soon. Love this movie. <3
For a movie based off of action figures, it was pretty amazing. I thought Shia LaBeouf did a great job with his acting and the special effects were just awesome. It was funny yet captivating at the same time.
A big difference from the first two movies. Much more dark and no where near as childish as the first two. This is my favorite Harry Potter movie to date. We get to meet Sirius Black along with some other new characters. I just really liked the story line to this chapter of the story.
I love this movie. I know it's sappy and romantic and I honestly usually don't go for that kind of thing, but for some reason this movie just grabs me.
I know it was somewhat..cheesy almost and the acting and storyline were flawed, but I still actually enjoy this movie. I've been playing the computer Doom forever and I just really liked the bit in the movie where we get to see it in that point of view.
AMAZING. Seriously. Even if you're not a fan of Halo you MUST watch these episodes. They're hilarious. So many characters, yet Church is still my favorite. My sister has a strange fondness for Caboose as do alot of other people for some reason. He just really annoys me.
This was such a good movie. Like, imensely. I honestly didn't think I would like it when we decided to rent it and watch it, but I was totally wrong. Mark Wahlberg was amazing as Bob Lee Swagger. So good.
I love this movie. Just the dancing, the outfits and the songs are enough for anyone to enjoy it. "The theatre, the theatre, what has happened to the theatre?" A classic.
The first will always be the best, but I really, really liked this one as well. It made me laugh more times than I can count. The whole strike going on in Mexico, the poor guy that is rating the casino, and just the ending were awesome. I can see how the storyline might seem to get repetitive to some people, which it honestly should, but I still thought the movie turned out nicely.
I love this movie. It was just so much fun the little cat and mouse game that Jeremy Irons was constantly playing with Bruce Willis and Jackson. Such a good villain in my opinion.
I love this movie. Really, I do. I've always had a soft spot for musicals but this one is just amazing. It's a classic with some great songs and witty dialogue that is entirely entertaining. And who could forget about one of the happiest scenes in all of cinema, Gene Kelly's sing and dance number in the rain. For some reason, every single time I watch that scene with him belting out the lyrics to Singin' in the Rain, it just puts a smile on my face. :) This is one of my favorite movies of all time with some of my favorite actors.
Wow, I can't even express how good this movie was. It was so creepy, so interesting, and so captivating all at the same time. The idea of the seven deadly sins being turned into murders is just an awesome idea and this movie did it so well. The acting was great, I loved Morgan Freeman in this. He always has this sense of calm around him and I guess that helped keep the story on it's feet in my opinion. Kevin Spacey being cast as the murderer was great too. He was so incredibly creepy! And then the ending was just too perfect. If you haven't seen this film already, you really need to.
What a great movie. It's the ultimate action movie out there. The acting is superb and there is an actual plot! I love the character if McClane. He's not your average hero that seems to be completely invincible. You see him get injured numerous times throughout the film and you actually see him in pain. I personally love watching how he fights. The way he moves just seems much more realistic compared to your average action hero. Then Alan Rickman, in his first film too!, was just an amazing villain. He was smart and sly.
Loved it. Incredibly witty and comic for it's time and the acting was great. The hitch hiking scene was hilarious! I loved the pairing of Gable and Colbert in this.
Before seeing this film, I really had never given a thought to Iron Man so no, I'm not one of those die hard fans that have loved him since I was a kid. I have been a Batman fan though since I was about 6. Anyways, I thought this movie was absolutely fantastic! It was incredibly entertaining and Robert Downey Jr. was just amazing (not to mention rather hot) in this movie. My mom even loved the film and that's definitely saying something about a movie revolving around a superhero. I also plan on buying the DVD when it comes out.
Yet another seemingly hopeless romantic movie that I just love. It's so cute and whimsical all while having a tennis tournament in the background. I thought Paul Bettany was just wonderful in this movie and that he and Kirsten Dunst had great chemistry on screen. I've honestly never really been that big of a fan for Dunst, for some reason her acting and just facial expression always kind of threw me off of a story (spiderman), but in this I thoroughly enjoyed her time on screen. As for Paul, I'll say that I really haven't seen too many of his movies except for A Knight's Tale, which I found him hilarious in, and The Da Vinci Code. This movie brought out a different side to him though what with the small conversations with himself in his head that only you can hear and just his overall performance as the has-been tennis playing getting lucky. I know this film may not be of cinema acclaim, but I still always enjoy it when I get a chance to watch it.
Wow, this movie definitely kicked. When I first heard about it, I really wasn't all that interested in seeing it. Then again, I didn't have a clue to what exactly it was all about. After having watched it, I must say that this is seriously an amazing movie. It was witty at times, had humor and that wonderful feeling you get when the bad people get what's coming to them in the form of two Irish saints.
Omg, I'm so excited for this film. I started reading the series quite a few years ago, probably when I was in about 7th grade, and loved them to death. It drove me mad having to wait for each new book to come out since Darren Shan hadn't finished them all yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing this film and I really, really hope they don't end up butchering the story. I do find it kind of weird that they cast John C. Reily as Larten Crepsley though. The would probably have been one of the last people I could ever see playing that character. I always had a vision of Mr. Crepsley being very tall, pale and thin. I guess we'll see how it works out.
I've seen this movie sooo many times. When I was younger, I used to watch it every night before I went to sleep when I was at my grandma's house since it was the only film she had that was made within the last 20 years. I personally love the movie still. John Travolta was great in this in my opinion. For some reason I get all warm and fuzzy inside when him and Mikey have a scene together since it's just so cute. It just seems to come entirely natural to him. This is generally how I think of Travolta too when I think about the movies he's been in. I usually forget that he's been a villain in like half his films. I really liked Kirstie Alley in this as well. I always thought she was so pretty. They had great chemistry in the movie so it made it just seem perfect. Then with Mikey's voice being played by Bruce Willis, just perfection. I laugh every time. It may not seem like the most entertaining film for some, but I guess it just holds some nostalgia for me.
Going into it, I really didn't think that I would like it a whole lot or even find it interesting. I had known beforehand that it had won Best Picture so that was really what was leading me to see it. I must say though that it really was spectacular, beginning to end. It was incredibly entertaining and very suspenseful at parts. I couldn't get my eyes to move from the screen. The way the scenes were set up and the dialogue exchanged between the characters was amazing as well. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for an interesting movie to see this.
I actually love this movie for some reason. I couldn't really tell you why, just that I remember seeing this once when I was younger and the images from it just kind of stuck with me. It's just very nostalgic for me.
