This was the first Manga/Anime film I saw, and my God it blew me away. The animation was amazing; visually stimulating from beginning to end. The detail to colour was bold and the artwork intricate and beautiful. I found the characters to be very likeable and enjoyed the ride which takes you from ordinary biker gang to science experiments gone wrong. There are a lot of scenes which made my jaw drop in awe. There are a lot of film techniques I never realised were possible to translate into animation but they added only more to the impact the film had. Probably my favourite and on first-viewing the best film I've ever seen.

I order my dvds according to preference and this sits at No. 1 and has done since I first bought it. Syamalan is one of my favourite directors, and I've waited in anticipation and a slight emptiness for each new film of his to come out. People criticise this film a lot but I love the alien genre and this is the best in my opinion. I think the performances are good, the characters and plot are engaging and the score by James Newton Howard is unbelievably effective in adding supsense and scaring the pants of you. To be quite honest with you this film scared the hell out of me when I saw it 6 years ago, and it'd still freak me out if I watched it at night and then went out walking in the woods or a field. But I've an impressionable mind. Anyway I really enjoyed it, I'd recommend it to everyone but I doubt many would hold my same opinion.
