My favourite movies of all time. It's a good mix of LGBT dramas/period piece, slashers, romcoms, animations, biopics, and documentaries.

Beautiful Thing
Love this movie, although the accent is so thick, I NEED ENGLISH SUBTITLES! I cn definitely see why this movie is a gay classic and all-time favourite. Slice-of-life story with magical ending.

Patrik 1,5, (Patrik Age 1.5)
I'm very happy with the movie overall. It's colorful and well-acted drama. Not bombastic and preachy like Hollywood drama movies and much better than your average American "slice-of-life" indie like Rachel getting married etc. Kudos for the director and the actors for elevating an otherwise B drama movie into one of the finest 90 minutes drama movie (and also this movie is safe for family viewing!).

Antique 2008,  Unrated)
Antique
Another adaptation from the manga (Antique Bakery) after an anime series, J drama series, and Taiwanese drama series, the movie adaptation stays faithful for the most part to the manga (they only change the names). The movie tries to cram as much as it can, resulting in quick cuts which can be tiring at first, but overall helps the movie find its tone. It has the perfect balance of comedy, drama/romance, eye-candy (the cakes or the men?) and unlike most films, the story is well-done. Having said that, the supernatural element of the story doesn't translate well.

Hot Fuzz
I expected it to be unfunny. I could not be more wrong. The first half-hour was meh, however once the plot starts, it's a fun and enjoyable ride til the very end.

A Love to Hide (Un amour a taire) 2005,  Unrated)
A Love to Hide (Un amour a taire)
This is a truly hidden and obscure gem. Surprisingly brilliant. It's a shame that very few people have watched this outside of France. Hollywood is not capable of doing a movie this good. Highly recommended viewing.

Kinsey 2004,  R)
Kinsey
Truly an overlooked gem, this two hour biopic traps your attention and never let go, no matter how comfortable you are with the subject matter. Authentic and moving (and left me sniffling with a lump on my throat). Definitely a recommended viewing!

Ben X 2007,  Unrated)
Ben X
This movie is surprising in many ways. I didn't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched it. My friends were ready to dismiss this movie after the first 15-20 minutes but I'm glad I didn't let them get their way. In the beginning I didn't get it but quickly enough I got absorbed into Benny's world and could relate to his struggle. At times it feels epic and even romantic. I like it enough to forgive some obvious flaws of the movie. Overall a great movie and SHOULD NOT BE MISSED. For me this movie outshadows all Oscar winners, yes I mean you Slumdog, Benjamin Button, Departures!!.

Brokeback Mountain
The most romantic movie of 2005. Gone with the Wind for the gays.

Gone, But Not Forgotten 2004,  Unrated)
Gone, But Not Forgotten
For some reason, the DVD cover is too racy for Flixster so they changed it. :p
Anyway, this is one of those indies that is cheaply made but has its hearts in the right places. I found it embarrasing to watch at times because the shoestring budget really shows, but overall, it's a sweet little movie and recommended for a romantic night.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World 2010,  PG-13)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
The movie lives up to the hype. It's geeky in the most fun way. It's a mash-up between video games, comic book, anime and indie music. But even if you are not into these things, you can still find this movie enjoyable. There are lots of characters but you'll feel that you know most of these people. If there is something to complain, I find that the beginning of the movie is a little low key and it takes time for people to be immersed in the world inside Scott Pilgrim's mind. Once you do, it's a hell of a ride. Recommended viewing.

Wow, this movie is smart.......did not see that one coming. This is the best Halloween-themed movie in a long time. A recommended viewing.

Religulous 2008,  R)
Religulous
Well well well....I'm fortunate enough to be able to watch this movie considering my country of origin is a religious Muslim country. I'm an agnostic so I'm all for this film. Having been said that, the movie could have been better, because the movie starts off well up until mid-point, the second half feels uneven, maybe because of the diversity of the topics in the second half (non-Zionist Jew, Islam, Mormonism, Scientology etc). So in the end the movie's final moment, although powerful, feels a little out-of-place/forced./rushed Other than that, kudos to Mr Maher, I'm his new fan. It's one of those movies that I wish could have been longer.

Toy Story 3 2010,  G)
Toy Story 3
The last of the trilogy but the first one that I've watched. I'm glad Pixar upped their game after last year's dissapointing "Up".How could Pixar made adults cry watching a movie about toys is beyond me. In my screening a lot of standing ovations when the film credits rolled.
25
Despicable Me 2010,  PG)
Despicable Me
A solid animation debut from Universal. It's better than Sony's debut (called A Cloud of Meatballs or something). Initially it felt weird/awkward at first, and I was prepared to hate this movie. But the movie won me over. The "villainy" of Gru was used to move the plot forward as he is not really evil. The movie is touching while still maintaining its flufiness. Despicable Me falls right between Dreamworks (fluffy) and Pixar (emotional and heartwarming)
