This is a gorgeous piece of film making.. Visually, emotionally, mentally.. Collaboration with a man suited to darker fantasy and the creators of Labrynth and Dark Crystal.. it's a stunning job.. and it reminds me of what I originally loved about watching movies.. (and what I loved about writing as well) I believe that EVERYONE should see this movie..
NOOO.. I don't want to be a waiter.. lol.. (a bit random.. but it popped into my head)
I have loved this movie for years.. It's my favorite Shakespeare play, and this version is great.. Richard E. Grant is hilarious, Ben Kingsley is amazing, .. and Imogen Stubbs is irresistable.. Not to mention, of course Helena Bonhem Carter, stunning as always.. Overall just a perfect movie.
I could not stop laughing... this one I am buying when I go back into work.. I loved it.. Anytime I think about how f**ked up my family is, this could make it seem almost normal.. This one is highly recommended!
One of my favorite movies! Crispin Glover is the perfect person to play Willard, and I'd imagine working with the sheer number of rats was a challenge.. but I love rats, and movies people think are strange.. This fits the Bill.. The painting of Bruce Davison is a plus as well.. (HINT for the never ending question test)
I love all of the original Omen movies, including number 4 (have not managed to watch the remake) This one, however, is my favorite.. It's the point when he finds out what he is and decides who he wants to be.
I absolutely fell in love with this move. Amazing acting by Christian Bale, with equally amazing work by John Hurt.. Very unique story.. never watched anything quite like it.
I love this movie.. I picked it up on a whim, and fell in love with it. The time frame is bizarre, and you don't fully appreciate the film until you've seen it a few times, but.. it's a fun movie to try and understand.
I bought this from a video rental place that was selling off most of their VHSs'.. (Like 10 for 2 bucks or something).. I only wanted to see it because I happen to think Eddie Izzard is a really funny comedian, and from what I've seen a great actor as well.. I was surprised at how good it ALL was.. While seemingly funny, it delves into some fairly serious subject matter dealing with war, and the "drag" aspect was legit.. I could see it happening... This one is a surprising gem of a movie..
My favorite line though.. of course Eddy Izzard..
Yes, I'm beesexual, I have sex with Bees.. (after a german man he knows calls him bisexual with a very german accent) It just stuck out for some reason..
Bravo.. Excellently done.. and oddly enough.. I have a book called Lord Rochestor's (it's 1 am..ish so doubt I spelled it right) Monkey.. and yet I did not put the two together until I saw him posing for the painting.. and mentioned the monkey. weird.. However, unlike the prologue I did not hate him.. I pitied him in some respects. This one I am going to have to buy soon..
The only thing that could make it better would be extras.. like interviews with the women.. I know one isn't terribly hard to find.. (not naming names, but just a LITTLE research brings it up) I'd like to know how close it really was to what happened.
I just finished watching this about two minutes ago.. and.. wow.. I almost think the secondary relationship was more interesting than the one the movie was primarily about.. but in a weird way. The main relationship was a bit.. .. rushed.. Eve's 3 yr. relationship was more interesting because she said herself she would NEVER stay in that kind of relationship.. for some reason the difference between a 3 yr girlfriend, or a marriage to a man is not really much.. I felt a bit bad for the girl when she REALLY broke it off.. but I was in a relationship like that once.. no matter how many ways I tried to say things weren't working out she didn't "GET" it.. until I was completely blunt.. I see how that is necessary.. still feel bad for the character though.. The ending of the marriage was just okay.. the guy was an a$$.. I dont' see why she was with him long enough to ever get married.. let alone have kids..
I love, love, love this freaking weird movie.. Strange, but unbelievably funny movie.. this is it.. and the whole Sara lee's erotic bakery idea is hilarious.... and now I'm a bit sad because I see by the pic that it is available on DVD.. so now I have to spend more money.. Oh well.. definately worth it.
Beautiful film.. the characters were well written.. and for the most part the acting was amazing.. (there were a few scenes that felt flat, but not enough to change my rating) The only thing I wish is that they showed more about Bobby and Jonathan as adults.. you see the three of them together, but it's hard to see what Claire sees.. She see's them happy, but takes that to mean that she's just an "extra" of sorts.. but there wasn't enough to really see that point of view.. I felt like Jonathan got the short end of the deal through most of the movie.
all I have to say is... WTF!!! My life is crazy, but damn.. I'd have to say.. the acting was right on.. the story was.. almost TOO much.. the fact that it happened.. even if you believe it was enhanced a bit for the story.. it is insane.. The cat wanting to be reborn as a stew was... um.. yuck.. .
I wasn't expecting much from this.. seeing that I really haven't been impressed by M. Night Shymalan's movies of late.. I loved the Sixth Sense, but then Signs was just.. okay.. and The Village.. not worth my time.. This one I really liked though.. The creature effects not so great, but the story was amazing.. the acting for the most part was great.. and what the hell.. I know it's just makeup.. but man they made Freddy Rodriguez look REALLY messed up.. that whole thing about working only one side of the body was really strange.. Oh well, don't know what else to say..
Damn.. she could make take ANY roll and somehow make it adorable.. I've loved her in everything I've seen her in so far.. and this one is one of the best.. (James Spader as a sexually repressed Sadist is awesome as well.. )...... the ending.. although seemingly a bit on the gross side was intense..
I was very impressed.. I like the fact that some of what caused her problems was shown.. not just rehashed in dialog that's been done over and over.. I definately think this one is worth watching..
This is not the BEST in lesbian entertainment, but is charming none the less.. The characters are likable, the plot is possible.. .. and the actors are right on.. I wanted to hate this movie, but couldn't do it.
My rating is only this low because I have read the book so many times.. It doesn't come close.. HOWEVER it is engaging, the acting is marvelous, Julianna Margulies is beautiful.. and although way too tall for the roll Anjelica Houston is PERFECT as Vivien.. hmm.. somehow it managed to sneak under the radar barring made for TV movies on Flixster..
Okay, I have to admit, the first time I watched this I really wasn't getting into it.. and then the Bjork number caught me.. I loved it the second time I watched it.. .. Everyone was awesome..
I'm loving this.. my second job is in a video store, and I noticed this one (as well as the newer one).. I had to check it out.. It's funny, and yet intelligent at the same time.. .. Cute story, not quite a farce, but it isn't to be taken too seriously either.. Good solid movie..
I loved this one too.. although, is it possible for Gabrielle Anwar to get thinner?.. I've watched her from Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken on.. and each movie she shrinks.. She's beautiful.. and has that attitude.. but there'll be nothing left at this rate.. (not on topic, but noticeable.. )
Pretty standard adventure fair, Indiana Jones meets The Mummy, meets Abbot and Costello.. but, fun..
I really love this movie.. I am one of those people who narate my own life sometimes.. I can't help it.. if I don't make time to write, I narrate.. I've always wondered about what would happen if what I wrote really happened.. and when I write a character, I feel them.. they are alive to me.. if I kill them.. it feels like I killed them for real.. I haven't killed a character in a long time.. but, this was definately interesting.. I'm not sure about changing the ending of the book, but.. I have never been in that situation either so.. *shrug*
I think this one will appeal to the writers (and avid readers) more than most people..
and the understated Queen Latifah was perfect as always.. as was Maggie Gyllenhaal..everyone was really..
She's so damned adorable.. and spiritually lost.. so she tries anything that comes up.. but, she puts everything she has into it while she is doing it..
I'm not sure about Francois.. he doesn't seem like the best match for her.. hell, when she tries to kill herself in his house the FIRST night he ditches her..
Well worth the time/money.. and a bonus.. Ms. Moennig with one of the best lines in lesbian history.. lol.. (I was not aware she was in it.. until she appeared.. so nice surprise)
I don't know, I really liked this movie.. there is not some underlying reason.. I am an artist to an extent.. I just never cared to make money at it.. I think the only thing I didn't see coming was him WANTING to stay in the end.. (trying to avoid spoilers).. but it made sense at the same time..
I love this movie, BUT.. those were some of the worst shoot 'em up scenes ever.. I know this is an older movie, but come on.. lol.. The rest of the scenes were really well done.. (a stupid line here and there, but, once again, older movie here) I may have to order this one for my collection..
The only reason this isn't a full five stars is the ending.. I was not impressed with the way it was closed.. not just that it didn't go the way I was hoping, but because the way it ended left questions that were just annoying.. and really.. none of the characters have really changed at all.. they went through all of these things which should have altered their perception, and then are right back where they were at the beginning of the movie..
However, the film was beautifully done, the acting was superb.. and the story up to the end was ... well.. wow..
It had it's flaws.. some intentional, some probably not.. I definately felt this one though.. right down to the bones.. I was never one with her problem.. I don't even just see depresion here.. it's played almost bi-polar.. (hence the days with no sleep, the ultra excited times.. and then the crash to the depression times).. I on the other hand am the one who spent a life feeling.. nothing. There are a few characters I feel were miscast.. some characters I wish would have had some really bad things happen to them.. but overall.. this was a really great movie.. If you want a feel good movie, stay away..
Great take on Shakespeare.. entertaining, humorous.. and rather odd.. I expected to fall asleep trying to watch it so late, but.. I couldn't stop laughing...
I really didn't watch T.V that often.. so missed out on seeing the beginning of Will and Grace.. which is probably a good thing.. because the first time I saw Sean Hayes was this movie.. He is SOOOO much more than "just Jack".. Oh well.. charming movie.. not the most socially important gay movie of all time.. but charming..
See it!.. I did not stop laughing.. I think Ossie Davis steals the movie though.. Perfectly over the top movie.. I could not help but love every second of it.
Definately had a few flaws, but otherwise perfect... Some of the flaws had to do with "wooden" acting.. There were some things that were hinted at but never mentioned which might make an interesting fan fic base these days..
I am not overly aware of the case this was based on.. but I have read about it before.. (and I believe, seen the crime photo taken later) I did find it interesting that Hume Cronin adapted it.. I wasn't aware he did that.. I always think of him as an actor.. (it's not THAT surprising.. more surprising that I hadn't thought about it)
I don't know.. James Stewart is one of my love 'em or hate 'em actors.. In some roles he's perfect (Bell, Book, and Candle), and others I hate him.. (wonderful life.. gag me).. This one is one of the love 'em.. He was right on.. You can see what he's thinking by his facial expressions.. and he "got" the character..
Perfect movie for how I was feeling tonight.. the only thing that would have made it better is wrapping up some of the stories with the OTHER characters..
I really like this one.. I don't really see it as a horror film .. It's not just a voyeuristic look at "freaks" either though.. I really like the story... I see how the code would have worked for a "family" of people outside of what is considered normal.. and to be honest, the "victims" deserved what they got.. (I do wish they showed the alternate ending with the emasculated strong man singing though)
I think the only one of them that really kind of shocked me was Schlitz.. (I think that's his name).. He's one of the "pin heads".. at times in the movie he seems like a little kid with a more adult face, but there were a few moments where I thought he was MUCH older, and just acting childlike.. In the extra features however they mentioned that he lived to be around 8.. He seems so much older than that in the movie .. I can't even imagine how young he was when they filmed... (and he apparently was quite well known in the circus world.. always had work)
Sadly, this movie suffered from bad timing.. that was a dangerous era to shock people. .. A restrictive attitude towards films forced many, many movies to be cut in ways that ruined them..or came close..
Overall a great job by all , it is just sad that so many of the performers did not like being associated with it later.. but then again, look at the guy who played Rocky in Rocky Horror Picture Show.. (the only one who's name I can't remember off hand) It happens sometimes..
Strange thing about this is that.. I really didn't realize it was a sequel until I watched the special features. I vaguely remember hearing about Henry Fool, but never got the chance to watch it.. I think this film is really good as a stand alone film.. (although I think there were some things that might have been more meaningful had I known the characters history) Wonderful cinematography.. The acting was very hitchcock like.. which seems a bit too... fake .. eventually you get to the point where you don't notice it though.. it's just part of the characters..
I am not quite sure I like the end, but I suppose it makes sense..
I love this movie.. it doesn't beat out Tale of Two Sisters as my favorite Asian extreme.. but comes close.. I really didn't see it coming.. I thought I had it figured out.. but not quite..
I think the only flaw in this would be the idea that if you are gay you are likely to want to sleep with kids.. It's subtle, but out of 3 gay characters one of them is caught touching them, one of them makes plans to hook up with one, and one you find out later struggles to keep himself from doing it later on.. I know it's not the point of the movie, and I didn't really think about it until I heard the end.. where they go through and tell you what happened to the boys later on.. It does not detract from the wonderful story, and flawless acting.. (of course having played the characters on stage for so long, I suppose it would HAVE to become flawless.. since they practically created the characters to begin with)
Okay, someone better win an Oscar for this ... Preferably Vanessa Redgrave.. Amazing movie... and as my mother said "the only word to describe it is powerful" .. Everyone did an amazing job, beautiful cinematography, well written script.. I grew up in nursing homes, and learned early on that death was inevitable.. but dying of old age does resemble this.. I've seen the stage in life.. I've watched people speaking about the past that they had forgotten, they had hidden.. like they are trying to get past the regret..this is a thoroughly believable story.. and it shows how one mother's unease can effect how their children mature.. (it is not their fault, but it happens)
This is most definately a blatant copy of Strange Bedfellow's, but it was fun.. I really enjoyed it.. and Ving Rhames was adorable.. (not quite as powerful a character as in Holiday Heart, but he brought a lot of depth to what would otherwise have been an almost pointless character)The kids were funny... , and Steve Buscemi.. hmm.. well.. he plays some rather unlikeable characters, and this is one of the strangest.. (and get a load of the fanny pack.. lol)
and I have to say, this had one of the funniest shower scenes ever..
Well done.. I had watched about 15 minutes of the movie before on Logo.. and finally decided to rent it to see the end.. I'm not impressed by the way they handled the gay character, but.. oh well.. the movie was far more about Tommy anyway.. and his character was human.. made some mistakes.. realized when he did it and tried to make up for it.. Well acted, mostly well written.. and for those willing to watch it all the way through.. a great story.
This was fun.. I can't believe I had not watched it before.. There is ONE thing I don't get though.. why were they so adamant about hiding the fourth alien?.. Why did they Bernard taken away?.. I can't imagine that it would hurt them in any way.. And then, knowing he was there, they left without him.. (AGAIN!).. Oh well.. must be something I didn't notice at the beginning or something.. This movie does not try in any way, shape, or form to be serious.. it is just fun..
Lovely.. Not a dumbed down sci fi for kids.. Great story, the acting was mostly very well done.. there were a few lines of the girl's that were strained, but.. it might have been intentional.. .. and strangely enough.. the Donnie Darko connection in the more like this section fits..
This generation was lacking in a science fiction or fantasy movie that had a deeper meaning underlying.. Harry Potter is great, but did not fill the gap left by Labrynth, the Dark Crystal, Escape to Witch Mountain, ET.. etc. going back to the Wizard of Oz.. I think this fits nicely..as kids get older they will understand more and more of it..
I really liked this one.. although.. When I thought Penelope Cruz was a lesbian I liked the character more than after she said she was originally a male gangster.. A.. she just didn't act like a male gangster.. and B.. damn she was a hot lesbian.. Oh well.. The movie was good even without that aspect.. A very interesting plot.. the balance between good and evil will forever be marred unless one rather mean boxer is swayed to choose good over evil.. both sides send down a representative in an attempt to sway him.. but Cruz's character, the evil representative finds out that she needs to do something even more difficult than getting him to choose her side..
Very unique perspective..
Very Well acted. And the scene with Penelope Cruz dancing to Everyone was Kung Fu Fighting was too damned cute..
I wasn't expecting much from this.. but, I was pleasantly surprised.. Very interesting story, the characters are well developed, and the acting was mostly great.. I'm not a huge fan of most werewolf movies, and HATED Underworld.. but this one was worth it..
WTF!?!.. There are no words the English language.. (actually, I highly doubt there are in other languages either) for this movie..
This is one you just have to watch to make up your mind.. no words could do it justice..
A side not, if I may.. : Jodelle Ferland was amazing! This is a film that I just can't see being easy for a child.. but, I really felt her presence, she took the character and ran with it..
Okay, I have one more of the original 8 After Dark movies.. and this one is my favorite so far.. I really love asian horror though, so we'll see if it remains so after watching reincarnation.. I love the story, the acting was okay.. but mostly, I love the feel of it.. I love the sadness.. even knowing that they are killers you feel sorry for them.. It is not the most original horror story, and that actually works for it.. because it's told better than similar ones..
Great Job.. now I need the CD... This one is a documentary following the making of a tribute CD to Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the money will go to an "Alternative" High School. (The Hetrick Martin Institute).. and they use video diaries from several of the students.. Which helps anyone who does not know why the school is important see it''s impact. The range of artists for the music is amazing.. Yoko Ono to Frank Black.. Everyone did a great job.. If you love Hedwig, you'll love this..
If they did not have the Samuel L. Jackson or Kevin Spacey this one would have been pretty standard blow em up faire.. They took those characters out on a limb, and somehow made this rather boring plot come alive.. It becomes an intense scene where you just wonder how much longer it can last.. Very good performances overall.. the actors saved this one.. (not just the two main characters either..) and.. shock of shocks.. the one character I figured HAD to be in on the whole thing (because he's played by a guy who ALWAYS plays bad guys) .. WASN'T.. that actually threw me.. It was one of the guys who is not really noticeble as a character.. if you watch it, he's the one that says he can't shoot him even though the target is locked..
Very well done, and I am shocked that I had not heard of it before..
Oh, HELL no.. I'd have done it too.. I'm sorry, I don't care if someone is a celebrity or not there are limits on what they should be expected to put up with. After the circumstances pushed him to his limit, which is VERY reasonable... and the law did NOTHING.. he reacted. I think the character that I least liked in this was the girl that witnessed the accident and did nothing.. because of threats of a sex tape getting out?.. come on..
It's not all the paparazzi's fault though.. it's the blind idiots BUYING the damn shit that is paying them..
I love this movie.. I look back fondly on the house I lived in with at one point 8 different people.. Granted, we were all from the same country.. and most of them were from the same state.. but we were very different personalities.. most of us were gay.. and yet still had very little really in common.. This movie showed me what I loved about it.. the choreographed chaos.. learning to live with people, learning how to create your family around you.. Well Done.
hmm... I'm curious.. I notice that the second story ties in with the third (Parker Posey turns off the news which has a story on the hit and run).. and I seem to recall that Kyra Sedgwick's character hears it as well, but what exactly IS the connection between them? Was the guy that was killed the husband of the first one?... he looked familiar, but I couldn't tell.. if the third story was the tie in.. why make it last?.. I don't know..
Seperately the stories are very intriguing.. I can understand where each character is coming from.. I feel for all of them.. each has a choice to make, and they do..
Very interesting.. I go to Shipshewana every year.. (where parts of this were filmed..) and even though I knew that there was this time that they were able to do whatever.. I never really thought about it's ramification.. I wonder if the 90% rate of people going back to the church has something to with the differences.. They are kept from it until they are 16.. and then they burn out on it.. Many of those kids have done more than I have!..
Charming character driven plot, believabley acted.. I loved it.. I've always worked in small businesses, and I have to say that this reminded me of the last one.. Working in a pub wit at one point only 5 employees and the boss.. and while I do not recall a day that had quite as much action.. it had that feel.. Well done..
Refreshing taste on film making. This was just so... alive and vibrant. Well done.. and the extra features were interesting as well.. I loved the drive by acting comment..
Not perfect, but still very good.. I don't know if I'd have had as much respect for her ability had I not watched 10 items or less BEFORE this.. In the extra features of that film she was asked if she knew any english at all when she got the script for spanglish.. and she didn't.. she had to fake it.. and some of those conversations were kind of lengthy to fake..
I wasn't really thrilled with Adam Sandler in this one.. I liked the character, but some of the scenes, where he's trying to act .. emotional.. just didn't work.. tried too hard making it almost a parody of the emotion.. I don't want to pigeon hole him into only comedy.. I've seen him play serious well, before.. this one just didn't feel it.
One thing though.. I can't be the only one that sees this.. Sarah Steele has similar facial features and gestures to Angela Goethals (who was also in the movie.. the over eager girl working in the restaurant).. I have thought Goethals was adorable since seeing her in VI warshawski.. so, noticing the features is strange.. anyone have a clue if there is a relation there?
Starring Morgan Fairchild?.. what gives her top billing she's only in it for 3 minutes!
Well, I am surprised I hadn't heard of this.. I noticed it sitting on the shelf at work and decided to see if it was any good.. Now, I'm really into the other films that Harry Sheerer made with Christopher Guest, so.. it was a fairly safe bet I'd at least get a laugh.. it delivered.
I'm going to run more and talk to myself less..
I loved that line.. (it's not the best in the movie, but for some reason it stuck out)
To have the results she did, this must have been absolutely heartbreaking for her.. She worked really hard, and did more than anyone else ever could.. it's amazing what she did with these kids.. and sad that it couldn't have turned out better than it did.. This is a very well done and human movie.. It is the truth, a sad truth, but the honest truth.. I recommend this to anyone..
I actually really found this interesting.. until they got side tracked into the Jerry Falwell crap.. it was like 25 minutes of annoying dialog from a guy who I disliked before.. I understand why it was started, but not why it was so MUCH.. a little 5 minute thing where he explains why he did what he did.. (ha.. yeah, explains.. that didn't work to well) relating to the bar in question would have been fine.. then they stopped talking about the bar and went on to his other philosophies.
Oh well, this really was worth watching.. just fast forward when you see him start talking..
I love it.. I am a German Italian Hungarian.. who grew up with the Italian side of the family.. (it's odd being the blonde haired blue eyed Deutsche maedchen in a family of dark haired dark skinned people.. ) Luckily my parents where the children of immigrants, so the pull isn't QUITE as strong.. but, I remember the family get togethers every week.. I still deal with the guilt from my grandmother.. (and I live in another state!) I also remember coming out in this family.. and it was.. .hmm.. interesting is too light a word. This one was fun.. I think this one is going to be one that I buy as soon as I can get the money.. It reminds me of the past, while completly making me laugh at some of the absurdities..
this was really well done, but.. can someone tell me what they were watching when they made the trailer?.. It doesn't even seem like the same movie.. It was serious, funny, sad... everything all in one.. and deals with some of the hardest human emotions to fake.
I've wanted to watch this one for awhile now.. and finally got the chance.. This one is well worth it.. I really don't know what else to say.. this is going to be one that I buy as soon as I can.. I recommend this one.
I think the most uncomfortable aspect of this movie is Eric Schweig's character because it is too damn close to me.. (well.. a male me) It's hard watching because I know that feeling, and evenknowing it is a problem doesn't help me get over it.. Not an easy character to play , but he did a great job.
I loved this one.. although.. whoever wrote the plot for this on here apparently didn't get what was going on.. hmm..
anyway.. I love asian horror for one reason.. it is not just blood and guts (although, they don't shy away from them).. there is more interest in understanding WHY a character does what they do.. They don't want you to HATE the "bad guy", they generally make the "bad guy" more understandable than the victims.. This is another one I will add to my ever growing library .. although it may be hard to track down having several names.. It was on On Demand under the name Witchboard.. (I'll still find it though)
Okay.. finally.. after searching EVERYWHERE in this freaking town.. I gave up and had my boss special order it for me.. (I work in a video store)
Wow.. they did an amazing job.. I have read the book several times.. I knew what was coming.. and yet somehow.. the innocence throughout a large portion of the movie had me thinking they toned it down.. but then .. when the story had built itself to that level where you think.. that's not so bad.... it gets far worse..
Well done.. great job by everyone..
My only real issue with this movie is a technicality.. I keep seeing it listed as a docudrama/horror.. and during the special features they keep saying the screenplay is based on a real story.. which is wrong.. The screenplay is based on Ketchum's book.. which was inspired by a real event.. but it is not IDENTICAL to the real event. The Sylvia Likens case was horrible.. but the details that are different than the case are substantial.. While a LOT of what was done to the girl is the same.. the story behind it, and the outcome are not.
there are some things they under play a bit. but overall this is very true. I still owe $8000 to an ER due to ALLERGIES. (I almost died from a simple allergy). with no insurance I can't go to a doctor, the insurance companies won't help because I have a "pre existing condition".. (re: hormone imbalance!) .. Now I REALLY want to move to Canada.. not only can I get health care, I can get married... .. hmm.. It's not that far a drive.. *thinking*
It's not perfect, and very much one sided, but he did not LIE about anything outright.
Oh yeah.. this was unusual. The strangest thing about it .. is the fact that the one thing that REALLY sticks out is the one Squirrel Nut Zippers track.. (Put a Lid on It).. I love that song.. love the band.. and somehow.. it fits this movie so well.. This will be one I buy for my collection.. I just can't help it..
Interesting little indy with a great soundtrack.. I liked the way the characters were portrayed.. and although I thought the end was a bit.. .. wishy washy.. it was still memorable..
I'm not going to say this is one of the best movies ever made.. but it was interesting. I was completely tuned in the whole time.. and I thought it was an interesting take on the Vampire movie.. (sort of.. not going to say anything more about that) So, while I can't say it will blow you away with the acting.. or the effects.. the STORY stands out more than most.
Wow.. I loved this movie.. it is not a feel good, happy movie.. but it is so well done.. I came as close to crying as I ever have (I've never really cried during a movie.. but a few movies get me close)..
I loved watching this... could use more Voltaire.. but.. as it isn't really about him I guess that's fine.. the ONLY reason I didn't give full stars is the lack of Inkubus Sukkubus reference.. as I know that they are a VERY active force in the UK culture.. (I have not seen them in concert because they never make it to the US.. they are always playing UK goth bars.. or festivals)
While I would NEVER want to go on a cruise, and by sight do not seem to be goth.. (trust me , if you knew my interests both musical and otherwise you'd realize I really am.. ) This fascinated me.. I live in a place with NO goth scene.. nada.. I'd love to be able to change that a bit.. Oh well.. (and it's sad when they make an "elevator music" version of a Cure song and you sing along to it.. lol)
Yet another Kevin Smith classic.. some parts are way over the top funny... but.. even with this.. it still had a somewhat realistic story.. .. Justin Long stole his scenes.. his overdone character could not be ignored.. even in the deleted scenes..
excellent .. I'm a fan of Gaiman's writing.. and this is another wonderful dark fantasy.. (not really dark, but.. a bit on the dark side) I loved it.. but, my best friends 8 year old daughter did as well.. that's not easy to do.. they did a good job.
This was a wonderful adaption of the book. I loved the book when I read it.. (several years ago).. and watching it on film was heartbreaking. Well Done..
SPOILERS BELOW: There is one thing I've noticed that people are misinterpreting. Several comments/reviews I've read (not on this site) say she didn't take the promotions because she was running.. that wasn't it.. during the trial they mention that she was offered a promotion before joining the SS.. (saying she joined because she was loyal when she could have had a better job) .. She couldn't take the promotions because they were office work.. she could not read.. (but did not want to admit the fact..) She joined the SS because she couldn't find anything else that did not require reading/writing.. it had nothing to do with loyalty.
