Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai)

Simply put, this is the greatest film ever made. Clocking in at over three hours and forty minutes, Kurosawa does to film what Michelangelo did to the Sistine Chapel. Perfect in every way, this is more than another hack-and-slash samurai picture. It is an engrossing and powerful drama that completely takes charge and doesn't let up for anything. No words can describe this film's sheer beauty and magnitude. You truly are doing yourself a disservice by not seeing it for yourself.

It's more than just a sci-fi. It's the pinnacle of "good science fiction," as director Stanley Kubrick himself put it. Teamed with author extraordinaire Arthur C. Clarke, the film makes a powerful statement about mankind and its desires: to create, to destroy, and ultimately, to evolve. You must see this film if you are at all a fan of science fiction or good drama.
