if the 80s happened for any reason whatsoever, this film was that reason. no wait, the 80s happened for plenty of reasons, but this film refined the action/adventure/comedy/road/buddy flick to everything that it could be. the script is near perfect, and de niro and charles grodin's chemitsry is something that can only be created in a lab. chock full of funnys, cool and heart. awesome!
finally, a batman film that gives us an accurate character study of batman, and why he's so fucking cool! and like all the best batman comics, is an awesome mood piec as well.
story wise, structure wise, choice of character wise, this is where del toro's film should have gone. his film was great, but agent myers was a punce! it should have had more abe! this film has everyhting that makes hellboy one of my favorite ever characters. mega well done.
"baby, i don't care". concrete proof that robert mitchum was the coolest cat who ever lived. ever. awesome film too. plus, it's the only film that i can think of where most of the film is told in a flashback of a flashback!
just the fact that this movie exists is fucking amazing! now i absolutely love the richard lester superman 2, but i'm the first to admit - it's bloody stupid. Here is a superman without giant cellophane s's, teleportation, and guess what? margot kidder is actually charming! for once, we can see why superman is in love with her. awesome!
