My Favorite Movies

  jhollies's Rating My Rating
1
The Wicker Man 1974,  R)
The Wicker Man
Home-grown horror thriller. Apart from some plot holes, it's tightly written with a standout performance from Edward Woodward.
2
Citizen Kane 1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
i.e. one of the greatest, if not, THE greatest film ever made. All I have to do now is write about why.
3
Mary Poppins 1964,  G)
Mary Poppins
That rarest of films: Practically perfect in every way.
4
2001: A Space Odyssey 1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Still scratching my head over that ending, but... oh what the hell. It's better than Star Wars. Quite probably.
5
The Elephant Man 1980,  PG)
6
Superman 1978,  PG)
7
The Last Temptation of Christ 1988,  R)
The Last Temptation of Christ
Although based on a novel, it explores "The Word became flesh".
8
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 1971,  G)
9
The Exorcist 1973,  R)
10
Sunset Boulevard 1950,  Unrated)
11
Dracula A.D. 1972 1972,  PG)
Dracula A.D. 1972
A brilliant premise (Dracula resurrected in the modern age). Something to add to the favourites list. Great dialogue, a fantastic Peter Cushing and wonderful direction. Opinion may change when I've seen the rest though.
12
Saw 2004,  R)
Saw
The first (and so far) best.
13
Forrest Gump 1994,  PG-13)
Forrest Gump
Tom Hanks' performance may prove to be one of my favourites in this whimsical tale of one of the greatest cinematic lives ever lived. There are a couple of instances in which sentimentality may go too far, but I'm an old fart and may add that last star eventually.
14
The Nightmare Before Christmas 1993,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
One of the greatest animated feature films I have ever seen.
15
Irreversible 2002,  Unrated)
