I loved this book, it was probably my favorite of the series, but I liked the first movie so much that I honestly didn't think that this one would top it. Turns out it was better in almost every way. Even with such a dark subject in the first, the tone is much darker and more serious in Catching Fire and it sets up brilliantly for the finale. The cast is even better than before, with many new faces. I felt they really nailed the casting for the new characters, especially Jena Malone as Johanna and Sam Claflin as Finnick. And of course, the returning favorites. Jennifer Lawrence has a great supporting cast, but she carries this film on her shoulders. She just keeps getting better and better, but that's not surprising. I felt like everyone really upped their game in this one, especially Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson & Elizabeth Banks. And it's nice to see more of Liam Hemsworth this time around. I like that the movie is bascially split in two. Part 1: Drama = aftermath of the Hunger Games/Victory tour, getting to see more of life in the districts and Capitol. Tension between Katniss & Peeta. Tension between Katniss and President Snow. Part 2: Action = Meeting new characters, preparing for the Quarter Quell, the biggest of all the Hunger Games, in more ways than one. And an intense new arena. I'm really excited about what's to come, but I have those same worries I did after The Hunger Games until I saw Catching Fire. But I have good reason, I just don't know how they're going to split the last book, Mockingjay, into two films. I'm sure they can do it, but it's going to take a lot of work. Mockingjay was my least favorite of the series. I loved the beginning and end, but the middle was difficult to get through. I don't know, I guess we'll see a year from now!... Catching Fire has to be seen, it's a rare sequel that is even better than the first. Even if you didn't like The Hunger Games, give Catching Fire a chance.
Burt Wonderstone was slightly entertaining, some things worked and some didn't. Would've liked to see more Steve Carell vs. Jim Carrey stuff. An average movie with a few laughs.
