Kill Bill: Volume 1 2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Amazing movie...
When I saw Kill Bill for the first time I just fell in love with the film. Kill Bill is definitely a true masterpiece with a classic story about a brutal betrayal and an epic vendetta! Four years after taking a bullet in the head at her own wedding, The Bride emerges from a coma and decides it's time for payback...with a vengeance. Casting was excellent everyone did a fantastic job in their own place, Uma was the best and no other actress could of taken her place. My favourite member of the deadly viper squad is Elle driver the one with the eye patch I also liked the tune she was whistling in the hospital, I was wondering that how did she lose her eye which was explained in Vol 2. They never showed Bill's face in the film that kept the suspense for the sequel which was a terrific idea especially for me because I never knew what the actor looked like before.
I like it.

Kill Bill, Volume 2 2004,  R)
Kill Bill, Volume 2
Excellent movie...
Well, volume 2 is a continuation of volume 1 (they are one movie, split into 2 parts) and the difference between the two of them are night and day. While the last movie explained very little in the way of plot, and the character's histories, Volume 2 gives you everything that you missed in the last installment. There was some amazing action in this movie. There were less grandiose battles, and more one on one settling of personal differences, which were intimate and really damn cool. While some of the characters may be a bit long winded about their pasts, or their motives, what they talk about is definitely worth paying attention to. This will definitely strike a chord with the fans of QT. This highly stylized, well directed movie had some nice sup rises if you can forget the fact that you know what happens in the end. Every performance, from the Bride to B.B (her daughter)was stellar. With a jump start beginning, an emotional ending, and some great plot fleshing, action, laughs, emotion, and insight this conclusion of a revenge story, could not have been more sweet.
I like it.

Léon (The Professional) 1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
Amazing movie...
Leon (Jean Reno) is a tortured soul. He lives in squalor and misery, never truly happy or at peace with himself. After all, he is a hitman. He lives quietly from kill to kill, harming no-one whom he has not been paid to assassinate. He is a simplistic, childlike man who lives by his own set of morals but is troubled by them. The one thing he seems to fear above all else is change.
Mathilda (Natalie Portman) is Leon's neighbour. A young girl, she lives with her father, step-mother, half-sister and half-brother. As unhappy as Leon, she lives in awe of the dark stranger, unaware of his true profession. Beaten by her parents and sister, she has abandoned school and instead spends the day watching cartoons and trying to escape from the real world.
When Mathilda's family is brutally murdered by a drug crazed Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman), her only chance for survival is to hide with her neighbour. When she learns of Leon's true identity, she becomes infatuated with both him, and the grim world he inhabits.
This stark portrayal of humanity and inhumanity is produced with the style and finesse that one expects from Luc Besson. In addition, the combined talents of Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman provide not only an unmatched on-screen chemistry, but also three perfectly created characterizations, the like of which are rarely seen in today's cinema. This film has my personal recommendation of being the best piece of cinema that I know of. I have not seen anything that matches it in terms of intensity or emotion - and believe me, I've looked. I found myself caring for the characters involved, an unique experience in itself. This is not the type of film for a night in with your mates, but nevertheless, it is an unforgettable piece of cinematic history.
I enjoyed that.

Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) 2001,  R)
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
Good movie...
A slice of heaven right here on earth, "Amelie" is a joy to behold, and has some of the most gorgeous cinematography I've ever seen in a movie.
Audrey Tatou is perfection as the title character. A combination of Audrey Hepburn, Dolly Levi and Roger Rabbit, she involves herself in the world surrounding her as a means of really enjoying living. There are moments when she finds complete and total joy just walking down the street.
Some of it is hilarious, too..like when her pet goldfish habitually tries to commit suicide, or when she is on the telephone with the man at the por*o shop, or when a character is asked "Are you a congenital shmuck"?
But for the most part, its a human comedy, about love, of course.
I like that.

A Mighty Heart 2007,  R)
A Mighty Heart
Good movie...
MIGHTY HEART is an important film with a tremendous performance from Angelina Jolie and a superb cast that joins her on screen in a story that captures the fear of terrorism which we live with today. From the first frame to the final scene, the power of the camera which moves across the streets of Karachi and into the homes of its citizens, creates a pulse that moves the film forward with both excitement, dread and fear. Fear for not only Daniel Pearl's life, but for many victims of the destructive nature of terrorism the world over.
The film is intelligent, suspenseful, and captures the world of technology which we live in today-cell phones, IP addresses, computers and laptops and the Internet-which connects us to both good and evil. There is an anti-American underlying theme in the film and through what America has done in both Afghanistan and Iraq, the audience can fathom the hatred felt for America in many parts of the world. Thus, MIGHTY HEART is a film which delivers both a tragic story, but also one for the United States of America as it continues the violent war in Iraq.
I like it.
317
American Gangster 2007,  R)
318
The Hours 2002,  PG-13)
The Hours
Good movie...
"The Hours" is about time - time we have left to make our lives enjoyable or to spend it in misery. It features the lives of three women, which might explain why half the film-goers (the males) might not want to see it and why it was left out of Ebert and Roeper's Top 10 films. If that perception is true, that would be a shame. "The Hours" is a wonderfully crafted film about universal themes of life and death, suppression and freedom, and unresolved love. That it is told from the viewpoint of three women should not diminish any of its appeal. Virginia Woolf must combat her life long mental affliction even as husband Leonard tries to manage her condition. Using the novel, 'Mrs Dalloway', the film conveys the heartache of isolation and forlorn lives in two other women who are directly connected to the book. In 1951, we meet Laura and Dan who, with their young son, would seem an ideal family. But Laura yearns for freedom, much as Mrs. Dalloway, and she must choose between giving up her family or dying. Move to 2001, and there is yet another Mrs. Dalloway in Claire and her dogged responsibility toward her former lover, Richard, now dying of AIDS. The themes of liberation, lesbianism, and dying enthrall all three women, and one does die in order that those around her might value even more the living. You cannot find three better actresses to portray these very complex individuals, in Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, and Nicole Kidman, any or all should be nominated for Oscars. An equally fine supporting cast of Ed Harris, John Reilly, Stephen Dillane, Claire Danes, and Allison Janey make "The Hours" one of the most interesting and intelligent melodramas to come along in a while.
I like it.

The Tenth Man 1988,  Unrated)
The Tenth Man
An Excellent Motion Picture Made for TV.
The story of the movie is great.

Based on the novel by Graham Greene of the same name, this is a story of a French advocate Chavel who, while imprisoned by the Germans during the occupation, trades his material possessions for his life with another prisoner when condemned to the firing squad. At the end of the war, Chavel, posing as one of the other prisoners, returns to his home which is now occupied by the prisoner's sister, Therese, who bitterly awaits the return of the man who had indirectly caused the death of her brother. His real identity unknown to Therese, Chavel is invited to stay as a caretaker and to identify Chavel should he return to the house. The relationship between Chavel and Therese develops until one night, someone calling himself Chavel turns up at their doorstep.

As one of Flixster's user said "this movie is defiantly overrated. the movie is so boring, only at the end gets a little bit better but nothing especial or something we haven't seen". I agree with him a little.

Premonition 2007,  PG-13)
Premonition
Good movie...
I read some negative reviews of this movie before I went to see it. They were completely misguided! The movie is both intelligent and emotionally appealing. The actors are excellent. The literary symbols are consistent and right on the mark for the destination of this very well-made film. It is important to keep in mind that the movie is made on a time-line of contingencies, so that what would otherwise be inconsistent actually can make sense in light of changes introduced by the non-sequential experiences of Sandra Bullock's character. I suppose those looking for some kind of horror movie or brain-blank thriller (both of which can be enjoyable in their own light) might not have enjoyed it. But those looking for a narrative worth following, a message with some significance, and a generally well-made movie ought to see it.
Anyway I like this movie.

3000 Miles to Graceland
Good movie...
After hearing a lot of bad reports on this movie I was pleasantly surprised when I finally saw it. The acting is good, Kevin Costner's bad guy is great, it's well filmed with a lot of excellent cinematography, combined with absolutely perfect use of the soundtrack from minor audio cues right through to the explosions. This is not a sophisticated movie, but in its genre it is excellent.
I love it.

Dr. T & The Women 2000,  R)
Dr. T & The Women
Good movie...
Robert Altman appreciates women. It shows in his movies; women are often the main characters, and his films offer up a variety of interesting roles for actresses. Dr. T and the Women is almost entirely about women, modern day wealthy Texas women. Richard Gere plays Dr. Sully Travis a very successful and popular Dallas gynecologist. Not only is he surrounded by women all day at work, but his family consists entirely of women. Only a couple of male buddies enter into his closed, female dominated life. And like all good Altman movies there are plenty of quirky characters and intersecting plotlines.

The problem is that the plotlines aren't that interesting or original. Dr. T's wife develops a rare mental disorder that affects only the wealthy, and must be institutionalized. The new female golf pro comes on to Dr. T, as does his nurse. His soon-to-be-married daughter is slowly realizing that she may be a lesbian. And so on.
I like this movie.

The Kid 1997,  PG)
The Kid
Good movie...
Unique movie about a kid with his dreams of boxing, and the measures he takes to fulfill the dream despite his parents banning boxing. I like it.
473
A Knight's Tale 2001,  PG-13)
A Knight's Tale
Good movie...
"A Knight's Tale" is a wonderful story of a group of friends who fight, train, and love as they are led by William (Ledger)in his quest to "change his stars" and become a knight.
Why do so many people think this film isn't very good? Because they think it is historically incorrect? Do they not realise this is a comedy? I'm pretty sure that when Brian Helgeland wrote this film he knew that the song 'We Will Rock You' hadn't been released 400 years ago. I'm also sure he knew Nike hadn'd been founded yet. I think people are missing the point, because they thought it was going to be a film like Braveheart. A Knight's Tale is a story which is set in medieval times, and as a JOKE, they have mixed in things that weren't around at that time, such as the Nike sign, and Ulrich being introduced by Chaucer before his matches.
The story is predictable, but in my view that doesn't really matter in a comedy if it makes you laugh on the way. Overall, I though this was a very good film, and I would recommend it to anyone willing to not take it seriously.
I love it.
474
The Patriot 1998,  R)
The Patriot
Good movie...
In my personal opinion - «The Patriot» is one of the best Steven Seagal movies.
I've heard people say it's the worst one ever, it's not like SS etc. I disagree. As a highly spiritual person, a great master Seagal established a good tradition in action movies. He always has a good background, great action, high professionalism and a clever message. This movie has it all. You have good shooting scenes, great aikido. Although there isn't a lot of it, it shows us its peaceful side. This change in his film making only proves his spiritual growth (he doesn't kill Chisolm's buddy in the end).
I like it.
475
Vlad 2003,  R)
Vlad
Not bad movie...
First of all, "Vlad" is a different kind vampire movie. It has almost nothing in common with the typical vampire movie and moves further in the Gothic fantasy genre, horror-fantasy would be a better term. Far away from typical clichés of the genre, this movie presents us a twist in the well known history of Count Dracula as it removes any link to Bram Stoker's novel and focuses on the myths that inspired Stoker's novel. This movie is a tale of Romanian vampires.
476
Belly of the Beast 2003,  R)
Belly of the Beast
Good movie...
I truly enjoyed this movie. I would like to see this character reappear and I would like to see the character fleshed out and to become more complex. I like his relationship with his daughter, I found his friendship and the pain that is there, it would have been nice to see this expanded somewhat. It jumps around a bit and it took a couple of viewings to get a really good feel for it, but I enjoyed the movie and I think it is one of his better ones. It does not have a huge amount of martial arts action in this film, but what it does have it good. People need to remember that the style he uses is not an offensive style, but a more passive style that turns the energy of the attacker back on the attacker.
I like it.
477
Dragon Fighter 2002,  R)
Dragon Fighter
Not bad movie...
The first 45 minutes of Dragon Fighter are entirely acceptable and surprisingly watchable. The characters are believable and interesting. The cloning lab looks really high-tech. After that, it all collapses. The characters start behaving idiotically, and a new subplot is introduced from nowhere about a fusion reactor (and this is supposedly "present day") going critical, the only plot justification of which is that it is required to kill the dragon - only it doesn't. The finish is incredibly weak. One wonders what made a movie that started out so well turn so wrong.
All the characters except Dean Cain are played by Russians. This results in some weird situations and details, like the character being played by Vessela Dimitrova being called "Bailey Kent" despite her heavy accent.
Anyway I enjoyed that.
478
Dragon Storm 2003,  PG-13)
Dragon Storm
Pretty good movie...
For Sci-Fi pictures this movies is surprisingly not bad. Not to say it's good at all, but it was much better than some of their cheese.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Dragon CGI. The characters were pretty hilarious (though not intentionally) in their appearance and actions. The huntsman's hair was probably the best part of the movie. For a man that spent his life outdoors, his hair was nicely cut and styled and he had some very feminine bangs (though he did need a bit of conditioner). The acting was pretty bad and the subplots got in the way of good old Dragon Slaying. It's quite obvious who's going to die once all the character's are introduced as well. Who cares, though? This movie is fun and cheesy. Watch it one Friday night while drinking a couple beers and eating pizza.
Anyway I watched it and enjoyed that.
479
Dungeons & Dragons 2000,  PG-13)
Dungeons & Dragons
Bad movie... but not that...
It is unbelievable how this movie could have been created with such good actors and so much money, but such a bad script and directing.
Dialogues are painfully bad in this movie, as is the story itself.
The acting is also below any standard you would expect from such an expensive movie. Jeremy Irons was especially shocking, his performance was very pathetic and flat, as if this would be a bad movie for three year olds. That was not acting, that was a torment ! I cried every time he appeared on the screen.
Thora Birch was also far, far below her level in 'American Beauty', obviously unable to tell how one should put a little life into her bad dialogue and flat character, and somehow even thinking that that was her own fault.
If at all, the thief Snails (Marlon Wayans from Scary Movie) had quite some good moments in his slapstick scenes, the only good moments in the whole movie. Unfortunately they don't last long. Wayans seems to have a talent to shine even in the worst movies, however.
The performance of the main actor was also bad. His dull and cheap sunnyboy behavior really nerved me, and I saw absolutely no reason for his 'being special', but far more for 'being untalented'.
The effects where better than the story, but really not that exciting either.
Some people say fantasy is about stereotypes, but that doesnt mean you can forget all rules how to make up a good story ! This story was not worth getting on the screen. This story was also not worth getting such good actors and effects. This story was nothing but crap !
And I can't believe that Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch are such bad actors, they have proven they can do far, far better ! I can only guess it must have been the director who forced them to do such bad performances.
Definitely not recommended for anyone except maybe children below ten. Oh wait, they're not allowed ? No loss.
Anyway for the special effects I rate this movie 3/5 star.

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God 2005,  Unrated)
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God
Better than the first...
This movie is everything that the first movie should have been.
I still would have preferred to not have Damodar back, but at least he didn't have blue lipstick this time. Overall, I like the intensity that Bruce Payne brings to his performances, but I still haven't seen a role where he balances that intensity with believability.
I like this one.
481
Reign of Fire 2002,  PG-13)
Reign of Fire
Good movie...
This film will have you believing in dragons. You'll wish there were no such creatures. These dragons have no fairly tale quality about them. They are big and nasty. They have risen up and have all but destroyed the earth. The few surviving groups of people are merely trying to survive this new reign of fire.
The acting by the lead cast is excellent. The story line is pretty intricate for a special effects type film. Most of the film takes place in Scotland, and this helps create the cold, dark, damp atmosphere.
Reign of Fire is a very ambitious film. I loved it.

Dragon Wars (D-War) 2007,  PG-13)
Dragon Wars (D-War)
Not bad movie...
If you are under 13 or above 13 and pretty intoxicated, you'll enjoy D-war. If you are a seriously dedicated fan of all kinds of brainless action films, you'll enjoy D-war. Otherwise, don't bother! I saw the movie today with my nephews . They really loved it and that made me feel good.
The CGI is good. Acting and directing are horrible. Storyline is extremely simple.
It's a good movie to take your kids to, but except for the final battle sequence, D-War is disappointing.

A Good Woman 2004,  PG)
A Good Woman
Good movie...
I almost knew nothing about the movie before I saw it (including that it was an adaption of an Oscar Wilde play), so I had no expectations at all. But I must say that I was pleasantly surprised!
t had a very good script with some fine dialogs.
The movie creates a superb atmosphere with it's grandiose costumes, the great scenery and really good cinematography. The story is quite simple and a bit predictable! But the actors are fun to watch at, especially Scarlett Johansson and Helen Hunt. They both really act well and look unbelievable!
Anything with Helen Hunt is usually worth it. I was not disappointed. She is at her best and superbly supported by a fine cast of actors. Tom Wilkinson is superb, John Standing does a brilliant.
I like it.

William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice 2004,  R)
William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice
Good movie...
This film was truly amazing to watch, the costumes and scenery were first-class. Michael Radford has done a tremendous job.
The acting was simply superb. Al Pacino was (as ALWAYS) perfect. He captured the torture of emotions that run through Shylock impeccably and easily stole the spotlight whenever he was on screen. Jeremy Irons paved the way for great British acting in his earlier times, and now has done the same. Also Lynn Collins, a fairly recent newcomer was perfect as Portia. She was stunning to look at and managed to pull of the speeches with grace.
Although i have all this praise, the film was definitely over-long and many scenes seemed to me like they could have done with a few edits or too. However, the atmosphere of Venice was amazing and it truly felt real in all the mannerisms of the actors.
Ultimately a very successful and ambitious film, that leaves nothing to the imagination, as it is a very realistic approach to Shakespeare.
I enjoyed that.

Hardball 2001,  PG-13)
Hardball
Good movie...
This movie was good. The little kids were funny, Keanu Reeves was pretty cool.
It's about a baseball little league, yes it has the usual "lets be a team and win" attitude, but its very well acted by these kids and the dialog sounds real, also its not concentrated only on the kids.
Its more like what the kids get to mean to this guy,who is sort of a loser, and doesn't actually care much about baseball or anything else.
I like it.
486
Stargate 1994,  PG-13)
Stargate
Not that good...
This movie was nothing. There was very little well-done action, so it wasn't a good action flick (it bored this action fan). The world these people ended up in wasn't very new or original, so it wasn't very Sci-Fi. The script was packed with one-liners and trash, which meant that the actors didn't really get a chance to strut their stuff. The special effects were OK, but I've seen better. So what did this flick have and why did some people like it? I don't know, but I wouldn't suggest watching it.

Code Name: The Cleaner 2007,  PG-13)
Code Name: The Cleaner
Not bad movie...
Cedric The Entertainer needs to find better people to work with. He plays a man who wakes up with no memory and in a room with cash and a dead body. He quickly ends up on the run from people who think he knows something as well as the police.
Poor direction does in what could have been a good script (you can feel the lack of feeling in how sequences are constructed). More than likely another movie made by committee, where every bit seems to have been put in place by a different person.
Worth a look.

She's the Man 2006,  PG-13)
She's the Man
Good movie...
I thought this movie was absolutely hilarious. I already knew it was going to be a funny movie, but it was funnier than I expected. Sure there were some lame jokes, but they cracked me up. I thought the actors were going to turn out to be pretty bad, but the actors were good in acting out this comedy. I have to give kudos to Amanda Bynes, she looked surprisingly like her brother and pulled off an awesome performance as a boy. As for the other actors, they were funny as well. Of course there were moments where you yell at the screen "how can you not tell?", but that's all part of the fun. In the end the plot turned out pretty well. There's a happy ending, but what'd you expect.
I like it.

Because I Said So 2007,  PG-13)
Because I Said So
Not that good...
The only one good thing about this movie is its being an example what a movie should not be. The mum played by Diane Keaton is acting really childish, there is no sense in what she's saying. It seems that her only problem was lack of sex, its indifferent for her, what man is with her daughter, until there is one. All the dialogs are unreal, because nobody actually listens to others, everyone is just shouting out loud.
The Mandy Moore character doesn't realize, what she is doing. She talks like a 5-year-old, doesn't bother much about future. Why does she think a musician is a good father? Most of the time his dad is babysitting his son, who is making comments about people's penises and vaginae in public?
491
Catch Me If You Can 2002,  PG-13)
Catch Me If You Can
Really a good movie...
While watching 'Catch Me If You Can' I had so much fun I smiled constantly. Well, that smile was interrupted by laughs. The movie tells the story of Frank W. Abignale, Jr. who is just a kid as he pretends to be a schoolteacher. After his father and mother get a divorce he runs away and starts pretending to be a co-pilot, a doctor, a lawyer. The way he does this is funny and brilliant.
I am a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio who plays Frank, in this movie he is perfect. He gives a very fine performance. Tom Hanks is the FBI-agent Carl who is after him, and as always Hanks is good.
The story is inspired by a real story. I don't know in how many ways it is true but watching this guy all I wanted to see was him pulling more of his nice little tricks. The scene where he pretends to be a schoolteacher is just great. If you want a nice funny movie, not too heavy, this one will definitely please you.
I enjoyed that.

Meet The Fockers 2004,  PG-13)
Meet The Fockers
Very good movie....
Meet The Fockers, The sequel to the successful comedy; Meet The Parents.

If you're a fan of the first film and are looking for new styles of jokes, this may not be the film for you. Although Meet The Fockers is a funny film (this is of course my opinion) it is not all that original. Many jokes from the first film are recycled in new ways in the second. When I say 'recycled' I mean that the same kind of joke is used, but in a different setting and a different situation. This should be expected from many sequels, and yet the thing that makes Meet The Fockers different from other sequels to comedies is that it may use the same jokes, but it keeps the jokes fresh and they are always different enough from the first time the joke was used to still be funny. For example, Jack spying on his family via secret cameras, that bit is used again, but it is kept original and doesn't seem that lame.
Barbra and Dustin were great additions to the cast. They did a good job of being Greg's wacky, hippie parents. Especially because neither of them usually do comedy.
All in all Meet The Fockers is a good film and is definitely worthy to watch.
I like it very much.

Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is a male nurse, poised to propose to the woman he loves, Pam (Teri Polo) but the right thing to do would be to ask her father's permission first. During a weekend of getting to know them, he manages to make a strong impression; for all the wrong reasons. Her father (Robert De Niro) isn't quite what Greg has been led to believe, and right from the start he seems to have it in for his daughter's partner.
De Niro and Stiller play off each other brilliantly, and both of them give fine comic performances, with a surprising level of depth for comedy characters. This film is packed with slick gags, hilarious scenes and it has a really fun story; it's a comedy film that you don't want to miss.
I like it very much.

The Italian Job
Good movie...
The action, acting and actors are all astounding. In the true sixties style, with smart cars and smooth maneuvering, this film has been pulled off with immense style in parts and is the bread and butter of a truly British film. Michael Caine performs really well among a truly interesting range of actors who come together brilliantly and entertain non stop throughout. A definite must see for a fan of straight forward action, excitement and great story. Enjoyable for Adults and Children alike. Obviously there will be skeptics, but seriously give this film a look in, and if you're not convinced then just watch it again, as it definitely grows on you. Just remember to watch it to enjoy it, rather than pick at, although this is hard to do. Definitely a classic family film that works on all levels.
I enjoyed that.

Material Girls 2006,  PG)
Material Girls
Pretty good movie...
I thought the movie was fun. It was somewhat silly & predictable, but overall I thought the Duff sisters were great. I liked watching their characters' progression through the movie. I would love to see the Duffs in more physical comedy roles. They were really good. I felt there was some real insight into the confusion that could come from having one's life turned upside-down. There was some very true statements on having to adjust and recognize the things about yourself that aren't always good. And true to form the girls had to adjust every day as they continued to learn. The gags were the best part. Some of the "moral of the story" parts dragged, but when it was funny it was very funny.
I like it.

Into the Blue
Good movie...
Beautiful Scenery, Moderate Adventure, Exciting...
Paul Walker and Jessica Alba play a struggling young couple living in the Bahamas. Friend Scott Caan shows up with latest girlfriend Ashley Scott, and when the four go diving they find buried treasure. Not only do they find a recent plane crash filled with drugs, but also a long lost pirate ship rumored to contain gold. "Into The Blue" is wonderfully shot, with beautiful scenery of the water and diving, and it's barely dressed actors. The film drifts around for it's first hour or so without too much going on. Most of the movie at first consists of the two couples arguing over what to do with the lost treasure. Caan and Scott, playing the selfish couple want to take the drugs immediately, while the more responsible couple(Walker and Alba) want to go about things the right way by filing a claim. Then the film really picks up at the end leading to a very exciting, and surprisingly violent final half hour.
I enjoyed that.

Hotel Rwanda 2004,  PG-13)
Hotel Rwanda
Good movie...
I have to say I am deeply moved by it. The premise of the film is about one mans struggle to do the right thing at when everything around him is going wrong.
Don Cheadle's passion and heart was so strong that moved me almost to tears. There is a definite wish here to let this story to be known to the world.
Its powerful and provocative in its indirect and subtle jabs at the west for not intervening into such a horror that took place in Rwanda.
I like that.

Enemy at the Gates 2001,  R)
Enemy at the Gates
Great movie...
This is a epic story of a subtle hero who ends up being painted, and with all right, as a god of warfare. You get to follow the Russian sniper through the battle of Stalingrad, in which he plays an very important role in taking back the Russian capital. A splendid movie that has you gripped in its immerse story-telling all the way to the end. A must see!
Now all the acting in this movie are splendid and I especially liked Ed Harris and what he does with his character as the German officer who is, by his own request, sent in to terminate the Russian sniper, played by Jude Law. Law is good in his role but the real star of this movie is Rachel Weiz, who does a phenomenal job playing Jude Laws Love interest, also admired by Joseph Fiennes character who is one of the PR spokesmen for the Russian army.
Now everything does not quite work out for Joseph's character but the end of the movie really took to my liking with him at least going with honor.

Lord of War 2005,  R)
Lord of War
Good movie...
Cage delivered on the "anti-hero" - a 21st century "Corleone".
The locations were cool and "spectacular". From a visual standpoint this movie really does take you around the world. New York, Russia, Libya, Liberia, etc. This movie is shot very, very well.
The pacing of the movie is brisk, the scenes aren't morose. Like Platoon, this movie doesn't glamorize or demonize situations. A guy who sells weapons for a living meets some violent people in some violent places. The visual style is breathtaking.
What I like best is, no characters in the movie are "romanticized". There are no "good guys". One could make the case that there are no "bad guys" as well I suppose. There are people who do bad things for reasons you don't understand. There are people who do nothing when they should do something for reasons you don't understand. Its a pretty accurate depiction of real life.
Its not about Iraq. Its not particularly political. This movie could have been made under any president in the last 100 years and been just as accurate. Its not particularly anti-gun. Its just about this guy who sells guns.
I enjoyed that.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley 2006,  PG-13)
The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Good movie...
This is an amazing film that gives an accurate portrayal of the events in Ireland during the reign of the evil Black & Tans. Of course the British are not going to like it because it shows them up for the colonial oppressors they once were. It's quite simple really, the Black & Tans laid the foundation for a rebellion against an evil colonial force, take it on the chin Brits it's what you were.
Ken Loach has no reason to lie in his films, he gets at the truth and holds no bars in telling it, but sure if any truth about the Brits comes out then the provider must be anti-British.
I am pleased that the British are taking this film so badly, if you would only open your mind and realize how evil your past governments were then maybe you could see the film, in a different light.
I like that.

The King Maker 2005,  R)
The King Maker
The King Maker is a film about a series of real (citation needed) events that occurred during the Portuguese Occupation in Indochina.
Although the costumes and art direction are commendable, the movie still fails to impress the viewer. The acting, in particular, was extremely poor. Some of the actors are trying hard to let tears down and the accents, both real and fake, are extremely irritating. The storyline was also too dumb and too stupid to be true and it seemed more like a history lesson. The movie couldn't even capture that sort of regal and century-old air and it looked more like a botched attempt to make an Asian version of Elizabeth.
Final say? Costumes and art direction give the film a breath of fresh air, but the execution was extremely poor and the actors couldn't even give natural bursts of emotion. In short, the movie sounded more like hullabaloo than a script.

Sense and Sensibility
Perfect movie...
After seeing Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth I wouldn't expect myself to like another JA adaptation so much, but I confess I did. P&P stays my favorite but S&S is very close.
My favourite, however, was definitely Colonel Brandon! I think Alan Rickman was just perfect for that role. I've seen him only as professor Snape in the first Harry Potter film, so I can't compare very much but I would say he is a great actor. I love his voice (especially when he says "What can I do? Give me some occupation, Miss Dashwood, or I shall run mad.), love his intonation and how he cares for Marianne so tenderly and patiently even though she turns her back on him. You can see the suffering in his eyes!
I like it very much.

The Portrait of a Lady 1996,  PG-13)
The Portrait of a Lady
Very god movie...
An interesting film with an undercurrent of sexual repression similar to that in Campion's other films. Nicole Kidman is excellent, given the material, though her transition from likable, virtuous innocent to a cold and corrupted woman doesn't ring as true as it should--the three years glossed over with a subtitle isn't adequate to show the change. I blame this on the interpretation, direction, and/or editing rather than Kidman's performance, however. Malkovich is not as strong, and one wonders what any woman could see in him as a lover.
The ending is cold and unsettling. Most filmmaker prefer to know that their hero/heroine is "safe" at the end of the story. Here, who knows ?
Production values are good, and the film is quite stylish with interesting use of camera tilt, lighting, and angles. It's quite artsy. I am glad I saw the film, but acknowledge it's not likely to be everyone's cup of tea.
I like that.

The Last Samurai 2003,  R)
The Last Samurai
Prefect movie...
Powerful, well-crafted epic set in the 19th century about a disillusioned American Army Officer who's hired to train a group of inexperienced Japanese soldiers and lead them into battle against a rebellious samurai. Having been defeated and held captive by the enemy, he gradually begins to understand and develop a great respect for the man who should be his adversary. Long, but faultlessly performed and richly detailed with compelling battle scenes and breathtaking scenery. Cruise, sporting authentic Japanese tongue, is excellent, but Watanabe steals the film in a moving and forceful performance as the fierce but honorable samurai warrior. Only letdown is the finale, which seems a bit too conventional, but it's still a remarkable tale of life, honor, and courage.
I love it.

The Others 2001,  PG-13)
The Others
Great movie...
At the beginning of "The Others" we get introduced to housewife Grace Stewart (Nicole Kidman) living with her photosensitive children on the island of Jersey during World War II. They can't leave the island as the Nazi submarines have it surrounded. Then, ghostly things begin to happen in the house, and the children say that some other people are living in the house. As time passes, Grace gets more and more desperate and angrily starts carrying a rifle around. And then...it turns out that we've been assuming the wrong thing the whole time.

What is the death? What is the fear who make this sleep a huge problem? This movie do not presents a way to understand the future life or the secret of another world. This film talk about the knowledge and the innocence. About an inside solitude and the words of this empty space. Grace Steward is the perfect mother and a perfect wife. But his perfection is his fundamental sin. The fear and the waiting, the love and the sacrifice spirit. Like the Old Lady she believes in the reality and must protect his personal world of the dangerous contacts. The house is a grave, but his silence is the honest price for live. The rooms are cells but this is only way to save the essential. The sick of children is a wall for a good protection. Bertha Mills and his companions are not only the enemy, guides or strangers. They are the end of waiting. The killers of the Grace's reality. The death is yours master piece. And the verdict- a word of children's lesson.
I love it.

The Lake House
Very good movie...
This is a touching, well-acted, and beautiful looking film. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have great chemistry together and the supporting actors are very competent. The story is absorbing and interesting, and although its a time-travel fantasy, it's logical within it's basic premise.
"The Lake House" isn't just another dime-a-dozen romance movie.
It speaks some hard truths about love.
Sometimes distance and restraint are the best environment to allow love to grow. Sometimes it pays to wait for love.

Stuck On You
Good movie...
I really enjoyed this movie. It was thoughtful and the dialog between the characters was great. I think people should give this movie a second look. This movie is much deeper than it first appears, with lessons on life and love, and friendship. It does not make fun of people with this affect. But, rather, celebrates the strength they have to combat everyday life with others around them who are less tolerant of their deformity. I put this movie in whenever I need a good laugh. And it always does the trick! I liked seeing how both actors have such broad ranges for acting. You go from the Bourne Identity to Stuck on you. Matt Damon does a great job.

xXx: State of the Union
Good movie...
I don't see why people are giving this film really bad reviews. Yes, it is fairly ridiculous and yes, the plot is very poor. But that's not the reason this film got made. The makers' knew that this story wasn't going to rival 'The Godfather' or 'Star Wars'. It was made for pure entertainment and escapism.
No one moans that James Bond isn't realistic, do they? Of course not, because it is great fun. Now this wasn't as good as many Bond films, if any, but it did its job and kept me entertained. Ice Cube is no better than Vin Diesel as xXx, but not much worse either, in my opinion. It has a fairly decent supporting cast, mainly Samuel L Jackson and Willem Dafoe. They do their jobs too. Nothing special, but adequate enough.
Put simply, if you're looking for an Oscar-winning script and performances, then rent out 'Goodfellas'. If you're just looking for some escapism and silly entertainment with big men and big guns, tank chases, fight scenes and lots of cars, then give this a try.

Superbad 2007,  R)
Superbad
Not that good...
I had high hopes for this movie. The previews made it me think this was going to be a very funny movie if not he funniest movie of the summer and/or year. The media and audiences also adored this movie calling it hilarious but also heartwarming. I remember reading in the LA Times some quote suggesting this would be to American Pie what teenage John Hughes films were to "Porky's" and I enjoyed most of those movies mentioned in that analogy.
It wasn't that Superbad was a terrible movie, but it wasn't a great movie either. It did have its moments of hilarity, but it also had its moments of boredom. I was expecting to be laughing throughout the whole entire movie, but I was only laughing here and there. I did understand every joke, but it seemed like it tried too hard to sell it to me.
So if you're looking for a comedy that you want to laugh non-stop and enjoy, you may not want to see this unless you force yourself to laugh at every single situation in this movie, laugh at almost anything, agree with critics, or listen to the majority.

Knocked Up
Very good movie...
Honestly, I thought it was the funniest movie. I laughed the whole time. Its had a great storyline, and it was heart touching as well. I think Seth Rogen is adorable. I seriously think he is the best.. Definitely worth seeing.. I also loved his whole personality. Seth is not only cute and funny, but he played the role so well. It is definitely a movie that you want to watch more then once. Plus I liked the fact that she fell in love with him with all the imperfections he portrays in the movie. I was surprised cause I didn't think that in the beginning I did not think that the movie was going to go like that . I really think Seth Made the whole movie. He is a talented young actor.
Katherine Heigl is also spectacular... She makes us feel for her in ways that many actresses cannot, and I suspect she is going to become one of the greatest young actresses of this time.
I love it

Juno 2007,  PG-13)
Juno
Good movie...
The sixteen year old pregnant girl is played brilliantly by Ellen. She is depicted as a confident and autonomous young person making extremely important life decisions. She does this without any discernible guidance, except for the disproportionate weight she places on a placard-bearing peer, who advises her that her unborn already has fingernails. Hence, she abandons her original and previously unchallenged plan of abortion, in favour of finding some infertile yuppie adopters to be recipients of a free baby.
What irks me horribly about this (popular!) movie, is the dishonest account given to teen viewers about the impact and consequence of teenage pregnancy, childbirth and in this case, surrender of a newborn without even looking at it! That is, no account, representation or hint is given about any of these issues. It's as if a 16 year old girl can uneventfully travel through the gestation and parturition and surrender and there are no great issues to debate about that.
Quite irresponsible and potentially damaging to young girls making life decisions.

South Central 1992,  R)
South Central
Good movie...
This movie makes you care about its characters. This should be said about all films, but this one accomplishes it where others do not. The story revolves around a young man in South Central Los Angeles who is involved in a gang that is slowly making itself successful by selling drugs. He goes to jail after being convicted of shooting another gang lord. While in prison, his son grows up and is drawn by the romance and easy money of his father's old gang, and becomes involved as well. The story is a little over-simplistic, and the dialogue is a bit thin at times. But the director and cast rise to the challenge and turn this into a film about relationships and philosophy, rather than going for the easy solution of shooting off as many guns as possible. The ending is one of the most sappy we've seen in a while , but given the situation you are willing to go with it. While it's not perfect, this film ultimately works -- which is better than 95% of this genre.

I think we have all waited for the day the Jackie Chan and jet Li get together and do something. This was the best idea they could've had. It was visually delightful. Everything was great and they were so funny. I did not think that Jet Li could pull it off but he just proved that he is not just a martial artist he is also an actor. They worked perfectly together and the movie told a great fantasy story. There were lots of loops and unexpected things and it was fantastic. Jackie Chan will be a legend. No one can do what he has and maintain his humility. Not only is he great at every part of movie making but as a person.

Saving Private Ryan 1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
Great movie...
"Saving Private Ryan" is one of Steven Spielberg's most haunting and visually stunning films. As the film opens, you see an elderly man (Whose identity is not revealed until the end), standing at a headstone, in tears. Why? You soon understand the story as we go back in time.
It is D-Day, June 6th,1944. You are soon caught up in the battle on Omaha Beach. And it is INCREDIBLY bloody. Soldiers are shot, drowned, blown apart or on fire during the battle on the beach against the Germany army. One of the soldiers fighting is Capt. Miller (Tom Hanks, in one of his best performances), who fights bravely, but you can see the terror that engulfs him. His hands say it all: an uncontrollable shaking.
Soon after the battle, Miller is given a mission: seems that 3 of the killed men were brothers. A fourth is behind enemies lines and needs to be rescued and sent home to America. With his team members accompanying him, Miller starts his search for Private Ryan (Matt Damon).
This is not an easy mission. Every single man knows that they may not survive the trek through the countryside of Normandy. Pvt. Reiben (Edward Burns)believes that Pvt. Ryan is not worth saving, at the cost of their lives. But with courage and determination by the team (although some members do lose their lives), they find Ryan. However, Ryan refuses to leave because a bridge in a bomb shattered town needs protection from the German army. With the assistance of the surviving team, they take a stand against the army. It is at this point that the surviving team members understand the importance of a lingering question through the film: will their sacrifice make a difference? By taking a stand to defend the bridge, the answer is obvious: yes.
The performances of the actors are powerful; Including Hanks, Burns and Damon, you have Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper, Adam Goldberg, Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Paul Giamatti and Jeremy Davies. John Williams, who always works well with Spielberg, provides a powerful score. The battle at the beginning of the film is one of the most heart wrenching scenes in cinematic history (And is not for the squeamish). It is a very moving film, and you will need plenty of tissue before you watch it.
I love it.

Rambo: First Blood Part II 1985,  R)
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Exciting movie...
Sylvester Stallone has one of the most recognizable faces in the world for a reason; this genius has created two pop culture Icons Rocky and Rambo. Anywhere, in the world these two characters will be recognized. Stallone has many detractors, but his vision, writing, and acting out these characters has made him rich and successful in a highly competitive industry. Before Rambo, his sequel to First Blood, Stallone was just a star like Gene Hackmen, but this movie created a mega star. As part of gen x I love this film, it is a prototype for many action films that followed. The story brings out raw emotions, tension, and adrenaline. The viewer relates with John Rambo his pain, and how the government lies. The action takes the viewer on a incredible ride. I love the battle cry he gives out when he does a chopper assault on the bad guys, and the explosive arrow that smashes his adversary, along with the machine gunning of the computer system at the base. The camera angles, expressions, and physical acting is perfectly done. You leave the picture feeling good, and that is what movie escapism should be. Stallone, who is ridiculed, along with Arnold for his physical acting, can with this ability create a great stage presence. This emotion he creates with his body is done by, how he walks, flexs his arm etc. Could Robert De Niro done this film, maybe(ie Cape Fear) Tom Cruise no way, Val Kilmer No. This film is what an action film should be, I've seen very few lines for an Action movie as long as this one. PS the speech at the end gave the spirit of what the film was about.

Rambo (Rambo IV) 2008,  R)
Rambo (Rambo IV)
Very good movie...
First of all, let me start by saying John Rambo is a masterpiece. They don't make them like this anymore. It is a return of the classic action movie of the 80's and 90's but with a touch of modern directing. Some will say it is gory, some will says it has no plot. But let's be honest, nobody wants a dramatic twist or a deeper meaning when they go to see Rambo! And even if you want to, you can still find it in traces. John Rambo is a killing machine but he is also a guy with strong moral values so if you are really looking for a message it is there to be seen. Other than that it is a full blooded action movie that will strap you to your seat for whole 95 minutes!
Rambo is without question a sick action movie and Stallone has proved himself again as an intense actor and as a solid director.
Tottalty Just watch it, words don't justify it!

The Spiderwick Chronicles
Very good movie...
Great CG, funny creatures and a touchy performance by Joan Plowright makes this my favorite of these "children" movies. The CG is pure class, it has the right mix of reality and fantasy.
The Spiderwick Chronicles undeniably makes fantasy and magic fun. While a few scenes of unnecessary predicaments involving the children's divorced parents could have been cut, the film manages not to be overly preachy, even with its many positive messages and abounding morals. With pleasing characters, family-friendly magical adventure and a mind-bogglingly fantastical world of faeries, goblins and ogres, The Spiderwick Chronicles is extraordinarily entertaining fantasy fun.
I love it.

Ella Enchanted
Nice movie...
The story of young Ella who was given the gift of obedience is a very frustrating movie, it should be wild and charming and funny and the best thing since sliced bread, or if not sliced bread then The Princess Bride, but some how it doesn't quite work as whole.

The cast is game, the special effects are good and the direction seems to be mostly on target, but somewhere along the way the movie decided to be too hip, too happening, too many things all at once. Its a comedy, fantasy, adventure, musical and a few other things all at the same time. It has timeless humor and humor that is in danger of dating very badly. It feels some times like a TV movie for kids and at other times something that should be on the big screen for everyone. It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Somehow I think that there were too many people with too many ideas (good ideas) but no one to say too much is a bad thing.

The Last Legion 2007,  PG-13)
The Last Legion
Pretty good movie...
There are many adaptations and versions to the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, with Merlin the sorcerer, and of the magical sword Excalibur, some versions which set it into stone, while others, handed out by a lady in the water. The Last Legion is essentially touting a story about the beginnings of Excalibur and how it took to the former. However, it took a long route to tell this story, going all the way back to 400-something AD, a time where Rome is in turmoil.
Actually Rome is in turmoil ever since Julius Caesar got killed by friends, Romans, countrymen. In a time where generals scheme to usurp the throne and politicians of the Senate are corrupt as hell, it's little wonder why one of the best and most loyal generals Aurelius (Colin Firth) gets recalled to protect the rear of the new boy-king-god-Caesar Romulus Augustus, played by Thomas Sangster (the kid in Nanny McPhee and Tristan and Isolde). Naturally the enemies spring a surprise attack, and our merry men have to flee Rome, and journey to Britain to regroup with the 9th Legion (henceforth also known as the Last Legion), bringing in tow a seer Ambrosinus (Ben Kingsley), and a lady warrior in Mira (Aishwarya Rai).
somehow I enjoyed that.

K-19: The Widowmaker 2002,  PG-13)
K-19: The Widowmaker
Very Good movie...
Based on a true story, K-19: The Widowmaker tells of the Soviet Union's attempt in 1961 to not fall behind the United States in the Cold War. The United States had just launched the Polaris-class nuclear submarines. K-19 was a Russian sub retrofitted for nuclear capabilities. The Soviet crew's assignment was to take the sub into the Arctic and test fire an Intercontinental missile. The Americans would monitor the test as a part of routine surveillance--the test was done relatively close to a NATO outpost for one, and it would notify them that the Soviets had equal capabilities to the American Navy, helping to either stave off war, sustain the Cold War, or both, depending on your interpretation.
As the film begins, K-19 Captain Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson) is running his crew through a routine simulation. The nuclear reactor ends up having a problem, as it had on previous simulations. Polenin says they're not ready to run the mission yet. Instead of listening to him, the Soviet military powers that be install a new Captain--Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford). Vostrikov is a hard-ass, which doesn't help him go over well with the K-19 crew, who were used to being chummy with Polenin. To make matters worse, Vostrikov has a questionable reputation--many believe that he's only in his position because of familial influence, and this despite the fact that his military father ended up in the gulag. After a number of bad portents, the sub is off on its mission and Vostrikov tries to get the crew into respectable and responsible shape so they can complete their task and get back home. As foreshadowed by the prologue, the K-19 eventually has a crisis with its nuclear reactor. The bulk of the film tells of this dilemma, attempted solutions, and various problems it causes.
K-19 is incredibly suspenseful and emotionally poignant. But it's perhaps amazing that it creates such nail-biting tension when we consider that on the surface level, it is simply a drama about a piece of machinery. Most of the plot is about trying to fix a broken gadget.
Ford and Neeson give solid performances to this long, murky, cold, and ultimately detached action drama that proved to be one of 2002's lesser box office endeavors. As stated before, the film suffers from a feeling of disconnection, even as numbers of brave men are sent into the nuclear reactor with improper protection ("They might as well be wearing rain coats!")
Could have been better, and it could have been a lot worse
I like it.

Stepmom 1998,  PG-13)
Stepmom
Good movie...
A sweet and honest movie. It's definitely a family film. I liked the relationship of having to fill someone's shoes in a sense, because people are so attached to them. Sarandon was awesome of course. She carried her part with grace and the feral intensity of a mama bear. Nothing got over on her and I liked that because she wasn't going to be around much longer. It wasn't about sizing up the competition, but making sure she was the right person her kids could grow up with instead of her. It was heartfelt and real.
I like it.

Drillbit Taylor 2008,  PG-13)
Drillbit Taylor
Good movie...
'Drilbit Taylor' is a teen movie that revolves around three highschool students being bullied and in order to protect themselves they plan to hire a bodyguard. The film has its own charm and is quite likable thanks mostly to Wilson's chemistry with the three teens. Another thing I liked about this movie is that it wasn't overloaded with sex and crudeness which seems to be a forced compulsory requirement of every teen movie these days (a recent example being the awful 'Superbad'). The teen actors, Nate Hartley and Troy Gentile are very good. Hartley particularly gives a natural performance. Owen Wilson uses his superb comic timing and does nothing short of great. What I didn't like about 'Drilbit Taylor' is that it tends to go unnecessarily over the top with some sequences and the fight scene in the end is a little too violent. The bullying scenes were meant to be funny (at least that's the impression I got given the background score and the way it was executed) but with me they had the opposite effect and I wonder how kids who are actually bullied would feel after watching such scenes being used as comic relief. However on the other hand, it might be uplifting to them as the point of the movie was to stand up for oneself and his friends. Anyway, 'Drilbit Taylor' is fun entertainment. Not the best of its kind but still good enough.

The Eye 2008,  PG-13)
The Eye
Not bad movie...
So I haven't watched the original Eye movie by the Pang Brothers, but I guess with remakes these days, it doesn't really matter, since most of the time, the Hollywood remade version pales in comparison with the original, despite having a bigger budget, bigger stars and of course, better visual effects. And what almost always seem woeful, is the attempt to try and recreate the atmospherics for a spook fest that Asian horror had perfected, and I'm inclined to suggest that they should adapt the storyline (since there's a creative dearth of ideas), but leave the mimicking of mood at the door.

In Bruges 2008,  R)
In Bruges
Excellent movie...
It's rare to find a film that can go from hilarious comedy to dark violence and genuine emotion without compromising either the humour or the drama but this one does it time and again.
The cast are excellent, Gleeson is good as the sensible adult figure while Farrell is brilliant as the comic and immature lead. Farrell shows excellent comic timing and gets most of the best lines. The supporting cast are all good, everyone is believable.
The humour is often very politically incorrect but never in a nasty way, the dialogue is superb and there are some great set pieces and unexpected comic twists to catch you by surprise and make you laugh out loud.
The dramatic side handles a very dark and emotional subject very deftly with believable switches from humour to sadness and the leads really earn there money by pulling those switches off seamlessly.
There is a lot of action and violence especially towards the end and this throws in ideas that I had never seen used before.
I really like this move.

The Happening 2008,  R)
The Happening
Not that good...
When I first saw the trailer for 'The Happening', I was quite excited at the prospect of another film by M. Night Shyamalan. After all, I enjoyed all his previous films, save 'Lady in the Lake', and was sure he would deliver another breath-taking blockbuster. Sadly, I was wrong and while the film was not a turkey, it was not of the excellence I had expected.
The film sees some sort of mysterious ecological event leading to people committing mass suicide, the phenomenon spreading first from large cities then to smaller towns until it is clear a huge chunk of the East Coast is affected. At first, it is assumed to be a terrorist attack but, as more and more people are spontaneously kill themselves, it is clear the cause may be something else entirely...
This time, though Shyamalan humbles his vanity ? you don't see him on screen. He now should swallow his pride and leave the writing to the writers. Armed with a better script, we can still expect Shyamalan to make his future movies worth waiting for. For now it is only the memory of the opening sequence, which can be proclaimed as mind-numbing greatness, which is really worth taking away from this movie.

The Brothers Grimm 2005,  PG-13)
The Brothers Grimm
Very good movie...
"The Brothers Grimm" is a fantastically entertaining dark humoured fantasy that borrows many of the favourite characters from various Grimm fairy tales such as The Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel, but putting all of these into a new and fresh, exciting setting. You will see a few well known faces like Jonathan Price and Monica Bellucci, along with the Brothers played by Matt Damon and Heath Ledger. The look and feel of the movie is sometimes reminiscent of Lord of the Rings (but with humour!), and at other times of Harry Potter, and if in addition you are also a fan of Terry Gilliam, you will really enjoy his masterpiece.
Totally and utterly fab and highly recommended
I really like it.

The Other Boleyn Girl 2008,  PG-13)
The Other Boleyn Girl
Brilliant movie...
It was everything I thought that it would be. This movie is so touching. My verdict is; It was very good. Superbly acted, beautifully shot.
Natalie Portman carries the film. Although her accent falters at times, it can be forgiven by the power driven behind her performance. Scarlett Johansson is also very impressive. In the book, Mary is drippy and annoying. But it appears that Scarlett did not make her so. She did the unknown character justice by portraying her as a selfless, good sister. Although Eric Bana was good, he did slightly disappoint, but I think that this might be due to his relatively short screen time. Jim Sturgess and Juno Temple shine. he plays the perfect George Boleyn who gets caught up in his sister's problems and tries in vain to protect her. I even forgot that Juno Temple was the malicious Lolaa from Atonement, she was so good! (Another fantastic film!(Amazing book, too!))
All in all, this movie was one of the greatest historical films. Not boring in the slightest. Very edgy.
I loved it.

The Patriot 2000,  R)
The Patriot
Great movie...
I loved this movie "The Patriot" because it so realistic and it is in my top ten favorites of all time. Mel Gibson acting is very good, especially when he cried for his son that has been shot and killed by the officer. The British and French war was realistic too because on that time, the soldiers do not need to hide on the trenches. Their gun is one shot per reload, so their fight like stupid who stayed in the line while hoping that the bullet will miss in their head. Heath Ledger plays Gabriel Martin who goes to fight for his country despite his father's protests. I know that not all of the facts are historically correct but this is a movie and did not claim to be a history lesson. The period is portrayed very well and the battle scenes are so well done that you almost feel you are there. This movie is very graphic in the battles and if you do not like the sight of blood and other realistic battle scenes then this might not be the movie for you. I watched the entire movie and did not realize the length. I was so engrossed in the plots.
I love it.

Children of Men 2006,  R)
Children of Men
Good movie...
CHILDREN OF MEN is a fairly good futuristic drama with holes in its story a mile wide most of the premise unexplained and unresolved relatively unsuccessful at the box office.
The rest of the world has lapsed into chaos but the British, stoically, have put the remainder of their civil liberties into the fire and have settled down under an oppressive dictatorship to ward off foreign boarders and await inevitable extinction, though there are some violent dissidents called the fish.
Clive Owen and Juliane Moore deserve Oscar noms for their roles here. Owen magnificently shifts from the hopeless Theo to the fighter Theo, who will never give up until Knee, the pregnant woman (forgot the actress' name), is given in to an organization who hopes the birth of this child will give answers for the continuation of human race. Michael Caine and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also worth notice, for they are strong and talented actors and they really play their roles to perfection.
I like it.

Big Fish 2004,  PG-13)
Big Fish
Good movie...
Subtle, delicate, touching and fascinating pledge for the life as fruit of dream. About the ambiguous taste of imagination and about existence like a spectacular trip. About desire and reality like warm bread.
The director of "Big Fish" is Tom Burton. It is only decent definition of a film -mixture between childhood and small miracles, about a special image of ordinaries gestures and about hope in eccentric aspects. The texture is same of grandmother's tales in Christmas Eve or Sunday morning. A brave hero, strange village, temptation and huge love, success and discoveries, miracles and public, secret sense of life and courage. So, in many cases, the reality is only boring passage and the dream, the childish game, the sound of angel's voice or the strange facts are heart of magnificent act of contemplation.
It is a moral story but, in same measure is source of a way to look the world. The life is not a punish or bag of routine. The faith is not only part of a relation with God but with yourself. The others are, in great measure, parts of funny miracle and ineffable expectation.
The Ewan McGregor acting is brilliant. Nuances, accents, inflexion of words, smile or gestures are bricks of a magnificent character, touching, warm, credible. In some moments, the film is spectacular dialog between McGregor and Albert Finney interpretation.
In fact, "Big Fish" is a tale. A fairy tale about life's magic out of words or exterior facts.
I love it.

Perfect Stranger 2007,  R)
Perfect Stranger
Not that good...
"Perfect Stranger" is quite thrilling but the finale simply absurd, moronic. It doesn't lack thrills and psychology, being it a psychological thriller. Played intensely, with moments of entertainment not delicious but decent though, everything's spoiled by the foolish and outrageous ending - the mystery resolution is too convoluted. It looks like a pre-packedged thriller, "homogenized" I'd say, with much part of it taking place in chats. Bruce Willis and Halle Berry have acted much better in past, but are watchable regardless, as well as Giovanni Ribisi; suspense thriller is made bearable but eventually degenerates..

Wanted 2008,  R)
Wanted
Good movie...
Like so many modern Hollywood moves "wanted" looks and sounds great but is a poorly conceived and written and is ultimately not a good movie. It's another in a long list of movies that is technically excellent but uninspired and unfulfilling.
So it's a fantasy film that I found difficult to get into. The action is well done, the effects look great, but its another case where you are lucky not to have an epileptic fit by the first hour from all the flash cutting and gimmicks. Half the movie is in bullet time.
And then of course there is the loom, which is just a retarded concept and in the face of everything else, I found myself rolling my eyes. If they had spent half the time they spent on effects working on the story, we would all have been better off.
James McAvoy does his best with what he's given and its his performance that keeps the movie from slipping even further into the abyss. Jolie is always great but not given much to do here but look cute...
Anyway I enjoyed it.

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep 2007,  PG)
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
Amazing movie...
"The Water Horse" takes place during the turbulent times of World War II in Scotland. Young Angus, who is afraid of water, finds an egg on the shore and takes it home. It hatches into a creature that he's never seen before, but as a doting father he takes in the creature as his own, calling it Crusoe after Robinson Crusoe.
Crusoe grows exponentially and at a short rate, so Angus moves Crusoe to the Lock. Meanwhile, a military platoon has taken refuge at his house, and they think that the Germans will send submarines into the Lock, so they protect it with a large net.
As Crusoe grows, it becomes harder and harder to not notice, and soon the military thinks he's a threat, and Angus tries to prevent them from killing him.
It took me awhile to see this movie, because I thought it would've been stupid, but I was pleasantly surprised about how well everything came together. My only problem is with the child actor who played Angus, because he never pronounced Crusoe's name right (it would sound like Crutoe, Cretos, Cristos, etc.), and when he would yell it was almost ear shattering, but other than that, "The Water Horse" is an excellent family film.
I enjoyed that.

You Don't Mess with the Zohan 2008,  PG-13)
You Don't Mess with the Zohan
Funny movie...
You know, sometimes I just don't understand what the heck is going through Adam Sandler's head. He's a funny guy with natural charisma and, I would guess, a reasonable level of intelligence. So why does he feel compelled to write and produce films of such appallingly low quality? It worked with his initial efforts, Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Those two films defied any sense of logical criticism. They were sloppy, yet contained a maniacal sense of anarchic glee. He seemed thrilled at what he was getting away with. Yet, since the release of those films over a decade ago, he has continued to crank out by-the-numbers mediocrity that lacks any feeling of comic discovery.
It is my unfortunate duty now to inform you that his latest, You Don't Mess With The Zohan, is by far his most wretchedly awful film to date. Sandler's character this time, a Mossad agent who dreams of being a hairdresser, would probably fill a lame Saturday Night Live skit, but stretched to over 100 minutes is akin to Chinese water torture.
Anyway I kind of enjoyed that.

The Game Plan 2007,  PG)
The Game Plan
Good movie...
A good family movie with the only purpose of entertaining people with that unique touch that only Disney can give. It has a very simple yet enjoyable story about a famous football player who's life is all about football, parties, women and his dog apparently a very good life but also a very lonely one when someday a girl appears at his door telling that he is her dad and there's where he must learn how to be a parent and at the same time to live. The cast is good. The Rock proves that he is more than an action hero, he also can do comedy in a very good way, the little girl Madison Pettis is so cute and his acting is great, she looks very natural. Roselyn Sanchez delivers a good supporting role as the girl's ballet teacher and Kyra Sedgwick although it was a short performance it was also very convincing. In conclusion, a very good family that you will enjoy.
I enjoyed it.

I'm Not There 2007,  R)
I'm Not There
Great movie...
I'M NOT THERE is clearly not a movie for everyone. The concept of the film is experimental, the execution of the 'documentary' is actually an amalgam of the aura and influence of one man in the music world instead of a linear history of a famous singer/poet, and the goal seems more to find the effect of Bob Dylan's chameleon persona on those people with whom he came into contact than it is to relate the story of a fascinating and important American artist.
The intertwining stories are done so well and stay so true to the man that Dylan was makes "I'm Not There" one of the best films of the year. The constantly changing themes, looks and colors of the film embody Dylan's appearances to perfection. The six characters embody Dylan's schizophrenic like changing of personalities. The historical backdrops used in the film are important and relevant to the times and characters as they add depth and perception to the character's lives. Todd Haynes has created a work that should only get better and more revered as time goes by because we just don't come across films such as this in any time period. Haynes has created a gem to be proud of and a gem that Dylan should be proud of.
Quote: There he lies. God rest his soul, and his rudeness. A devouring public can now share the remains of his sickness, and his phone numbers. There he lay: poet, prophet, outlaw, fake, star of electricity. Nailed by a peeping tom, who would soon discover...
Jude: A poem is like a naked person...
Narrator: - even the ghost was more than one person.
Arthur: ...but a song is something that walks by itself.

M for Mother (Mim mesle madar)
Great movie...
Please don't miss it, she is my favorite actress and going to be a superstar. Its not political, but its about art and emotion. Do you know what I mean..? I can't say anything else about it. You can see it and see what you feel. Its a miracle, you are going to miss it if you don't see it. I have seen this film many times but I think I have to see it more and more. It's the end of line for a romantic film with a vary emotional music and very admirable performance by the mother and the father. Maybe because I'm an Iranian , thats why I like it. You can try it, you will not be ashamed. Trust me.

Step Up
Excellent movie...
The dancing that's done is unbelievably well, the story line is like very, very sweet and (though not really realistic) nice. The way Tyler changes is of course what everybody wants and the way he is,is just what every girls wants in a guy. And he can dance so great=] Nora is of course a little princess-like and has a lot of talent, and attends a school, with all the options. And the scenes from when they practice are so funny =] All-in-all, this movie is just great. It's my favorite and i didn't even want to watch the 2nd, because i thought it couldn't even get near the greatness of the first.
I love it.

Coach Carter
Great movie...
This is a real story that show us that in life you can make choices that can change your whole future.Without a proper education, a guidance in life is hard to pull yourself together. Learn to fight for what's right, if you struggle and give your best, you will never be disappointed even though the result hasn't got 'fairy tale ending'! You're a winner in your heart to friends and family and not to mention to the whole world. Samuel L. Jackson played one of his greatest roles, he's very expressive with a positive attitude and the soundtrack 'Hope' emphasizes the meaning and the main idea that a viewer should get: Hope dies last fight to achieve your goal in you personal life and last but not least in your professional carrier. I hope that this cultural film is an example of success to every young man in who is out there in streets and doesn't know which path to follow.

The Missing 2003,  R)
The Missing
Great movie...
I absolutely loved this movie! It was suspenseful, dramatic and beautifully directed. Some people don't care for a Western with an ugly subject like female abduction and slave labor, but that's not what this movie was entirely about. There was a mysterious connection between Samuel and his daughter, Maggie, and that connection remained until the end of the movie, as intended. Not all Westerns are neat and clean, you know. There was also the wider message of hope and healing, which I found consistent with the main characters' personalities. Furthermore, this movie had strikingly colorful scenery amidst unpalatable characters, which enhanced dramatic elements against the background of uncertainty. Now if you want to talk about acting, I found the character of Samuel Jones to be one of the BEST that Tommy Lee ever played. He went beyond his duty for this part; in fact, he learned the Native language and dialect for his convincing role as a white-man drifter. You won't find many modern actors giving that type of dedication to their roles these days. And Cate Blanchett was superb; this was a far more dynamic role for her than in LOTRs. Unfortunately, The Missing wasn't given its due, in part because of its ill-timed release. It came out the same week as Master and Commander- what rotten luck- but it's truly one of Ron Howard's finest movies ever directed (next to Apollo 13 and ...).
If you'd like to expand your imagination into the possibilities beyond the final cut, then rent the 2 disc version for deleted scenes and alternative endings. You won't be disappointed.
I love it.

The Fountain 2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
Fascinating movie...
Fantastic in every sense. This film is indeed poetry, and a beautiful testament to love and the cycle of life, and the impermanence of death. Wow. The script is tight, and the non-linear presentation works very well. The scene compositions were exquisite. The score enhanced without being overbearing, which is so often the case in contemporary film.
The acting is absolutely superb, but then it's got Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. Darren Aronofsky lucked out in the long run by getting someone who has the range to portray the vast emotions required for Tomas/Tommy/Tom. Weisz has the depth for regal intrigue and spirited grace. Their chemistry makes their stories even more entrancing.
This film does require a thinking brain to be appreciated.
I really like it.

The Silence of the Lambs 1991,  R)
The Silence of the Lambs
Great movie...
This movie is the best thriller of all time NO CONTEST! A movie with two villains that make the viewer feel completely different. We are completely freaked out by Buffalo Bill (especially in the tuck scene...Blah) yet we route for Hanibal Lecter.
The direction is impeccable. The scene where Starling is first introduced to Lecter is done flawlessly. The close up of his unflinching face so that we can glare into his evil eyes. The scene where Starling visits Hanibal before he kills the guards and makes them into corpse art was also quite well done. Subtle sexual tension in the second when Lecter touches Starlings hand. Well done.
If you like thrillers, this is a must own. It will make you feel strange yet it will leave you quite satisfied. A masterpiece and a treasure.
I love it.

Well, I just saw "Skinwalkers" and I find it kind of a "OK" movie, you can actually watch it while doing something else or having a conversation with the person next to you or even checking your emails ! you won't miss much if you lost track of what's going on ! and even if you felt like you lost a line or two, just think of any line that can work for the situation and here you go ! you got your own movie ! I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just not the best werewolf movie in the world (is there such a thing anyways ?! ) and it's not - by far - the best horror movie either ! So, if you're looking for something to kill time with, here's your movie, if you're looking for something else ! well, keep looking !

Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning
Poor movie...
Ginger snaps back I'm sure many of you are familiar with the 2000 Canadian film Ginger Snaps. If you are It's a film about to sisters who have a very close bond with one another and vow to stay together forever. This all changes when Ginger is bitten by a wolf and starts changing. Brigitte ginger's sister tries everything to find a cure for hear sister. Its isn't a success. Now onto Ginger snaps back.. This film is a very odd idea. It has Brigitte and Ginger in it but it is a prequel that takes place in 19th century Canada. Brigitte and Ginger are out in the cold woods and stumble into an Indian who takes them to a trading village to get out of the cold. Brigitte and Ginger are not welcomed with open arms at the village. The village is nearly empty and low on food due to the fact that all the men who went for supplies never came back. Everyone thinks they never came back because they were all killed by the werewolves. This movie starts off really well. I really enjoy period piece films and this film succeeds at that, The sets in the film were amazing and all the actors were very good. I thought the film was kinda similar to Ravenous. The film starts to weaken once Ginger is bitten by the generals son who was bitten by a wolf and is turning. After Ginger is bitten she starts changing it gets boring. The first 30min of this film was great but the last hour was poor.

Chaos 2006,  R)
Chaos
Not bad movie...
When I started watching this movie, I didn't expect much. In fact with Snipes and Statham, I assumed this was a typical silly action flick, like transporter 2. But I was wrong, very wrong. In fact this movie is really good. I've enjoyed watching it, which is a big thing cause it was quite a while since the last time I could say that to a movie. In my opinion Snipes plays a really good villain. But unfortunately for the fans, he doesn't get much screen time. OK, there are some clichés in the story, but it's still not a bad one, and you can't guess what will happen next. The only major weakness in the movie IMHO is Ryan Phillipe, his performance is just simply BAD (that should be in bold). If it wasn't for him I'd give this movie an eight. So all in all, I think this movie is worth watching especially for those who like thrillers. But if you only want to see Snipes and Statham fight, or you're looking for plain action, avoid it. There are no fights, and the action is limited to a single chase, and some gunfights
Anyway I kind of enjoyed that.

5 Children and It 2004,  Unrated)
5 Children and It
Good movie...
In these days of blockbuster movies made especially for children, it is quite refreshing to see an old fashioned tale of magic and mischief. Children of all ages will like this film and take it at face value - it is an adaptation of a classic story. The special effects are reasonable but unremarkable and we are drawn mainly to the characters played by Kenneth Branagh and Zoe Wanamaker, the latter having the best role by far. The story skips along nicely to its inevitable and predictable ending. The storyline is sentimental; unfortunately the child actors do not add anything to this emotion and appear to be fairly wooden. The film is worth a viewing on a rainy afternoon but it is unlikely to draw in the crowds.
I like it.

This has to be the greatest musical of all time. An amazing musical score and stunning choreography, no home should be without a copy of this timeless classic.

The young actors playing the roles of the Von Trapp children are amazing and Andrews gives a performance to be remembered for a lifetime as Maria, a young Nun who becomes a cheerful governess.
This is definitely a family movie to be watched together on a Sunday Afternoon!!

Cheaper by the Dozen 2
Good movie...
This movie was great in it's genre. It wasn't meant to be some fabulous flick. It's just meant for kids who see it with one another to have a good time. It's funny, and enjoyable for a family to watch and that's all that matters. It doesn't matter how predictable the movie is, it wasn't mean to have twists for people to figure out. It's not meant to be complex of confusing, and to call this movie terrible is terrible in itself. Steve Martin is hilarious, and so talented. He is so funny in his own way and brings life to this movie. Bonnie Hunt is also wonderful. All the kids are too. It's just simple, funny, and great for families to watch. I think that anyone who wants to just watch a funny movie to forget about their problems should watch this movie. If you want something outrageous rent Mission Impossible, or James Bond.

The 40 Year Old Virgin 2005,  R)
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Good movie...
Steve Carell comes into his own in his first starring role in the 40 Year Old Virgin, having only had supporting roles in such films as Bewitched, Bruce Almighty, Anchorman, and his work on the Daily Show, we had only gotten a small taste of the comedy that Carell truly makes his own. You can tell that Will Ferrell influenced his "comedic air" but Carell takes it to another level, everything he does is innocent, lovable, and hilarious. I would not hesitate to say that Steve Carell is one of the next great comedians of our time.
The 40 Year Old Virgin is two hours of non-stop laughs (or 4 hours if you see it twice like I did), a perfect supporting cast and great leads charm the audience through the entire movie. The script was perfect with so many great lines that you will want to see the movie again just to try to remember them all. The music fit the tone of the movie great, and you can tell the director knew what he was doing.
Filled with sex jokes, some nudity, and a lot of language, this movie isn't for everyone but if you liked the Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, or any movie along those lines, you will absolutely love The 40 Year Old Virgin.
I like it.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Great movie...
If you have watched the trailer and know this movie is two hours and forty minutes long you know what you are getting into and should not be disappointed. This movie delivers on every level of film making, be it cinematography, acting, or writing. Casey Affleck delivers a fantastic performance in how he portrays Robert Ford as the bright eyed fawning kid in a way so sincere it makes the audience uncomfortable even when it shouldn't. Brad Pitt underplays his part as Jesse James hitting all the right notes while never saying much. Exactly the way one would expect an outlaw to act when they have everything in the world to hide. I can't say the movie didn't FEEL two hours and forty minutes long but I never wanted it to end sooner than it did. I guess I just enjoyed the time I got to spend watching these characters for the full running time.
I loved this movie. Unfortunately, a long western without action is something seemingly impossible to sell to the public these days. It would be to the advantage of the studio to sell this like The English Patient was sold 10 years ago. Just make people feel like ignorant idiots if they don't like it! As much as it pains me to say it, I think most people don't care enough to bother seeing what makes this movie so great. The only other option to make this a success is to fool them into THINKING they love the movie. I'm really curious how many folks out there that like the movie agree with me here.

The Age of Innocence 1993,  PG)
The Age of Innocence
Excellent movie...
The Age of Innocence is simply one of the best works by director Martin Scorcese and is deservedly entitled to the numerous accolades it has received. Mr. Scorcese's style and panache is elaborate in his film adaptation of Edith Wharton's moving novel of a forbidden love and the desideration between the two. Pfeiffer gives the most heart-wrenching performance as the object of desire. Daniel Day Lewis, equally talented, is the tortured lover who must choose, a promise of marriage to Mae (Winona Ryder) or risk his stalwart reputation in society to express his love for Pfeiffer. The cinematography is beautiful and the cast phenomenal. I highly recommend this film to everyone.

There Will Be Blood 2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood
Excellent movie...
There Will Be Blood is the fascinating sort of film out of which you stumble, distraughtly rummaging for an adjective or neighborhood of feeling that are both vivid and explanatory enough to cover all corners of your experience and individually characteristic enough to identify your mind, which is routinely on a different wavelength that this movie. It's an indictment of the sociopathic institutions of industry and organized religion. It's a character study. It's a clash of egos. It's an impression of a time. It's a detailed account of a time.
This is an actor that just cares about the work! Not Hollywood itself. Brilliant! I always love it when Daniel decides on a film. Never falters and never sells himself short. An actor that commits and throws himself into every role. This is an actor that is worthy of appreciation for the work he does. I'm excited to see what he does next. Paul Thomas Anderson never disappoints as well. I love every piece of film he's done. He's a very humble man and always makes the right decisions. I hope to see these two team up again in the future. I look forward to Rob Marshall's "Nine". Mr. Lewis is rumored to be a part of. I'd love to see more of him in action.
I like it.

21 2008,  PG-13)
21
Good movie...
21 feels more like a dramedy, than pure drama, but what a fast paced and exciting film with a solid cast and writing. Kevin Spacey is in top form with biting dialog as a cynical Harvard Professor, bored by his career, but brilliant enough to captivate a group of students out for adventure and gain. Jim Sturgess from ACROSS THE UNIVERSE continues to dazzle an audience and is completely believable here in this film as a Harvard student on the precipice of a brilliant chance for Harvard Medical School, and the lovely Kate Bosworth adds to the mix of gleam and love. The diversity of cast in 21 makes the film such an interesting mix of characters and the fantastic Lawrence Fishburne brings a tower of strength to a character in 21 that is more than enough of a challenge to "Spacey & Co.".
Really like this film on many levels.

Dan in Real Life 2007,  PG-13)
Dan in Real Life
Great movie...
Dan in Real Life starts as very unbalanced and decidedly indie feel - but after the first 10 minutes this sorts itself out in a stunning way.
I was prepared to see a fairly funny romantic comedy - which is our favourite genre - and ended up with a really good movie.
We were bowled over by this: consistently very very funny, - just the right mix of blues and joy - and great performances from all involved.
It takes a difficult subject - how being a widower impacts life - and a typical romance one - guy loves girl who loves him but is in a relationship already - and mixes it all up in a great way.
The fact that this is all centered on one family just increases the fun as we learn to get to know them all.
Overall, funny, sweet, original, but also comforting - a really nice effort and one that deserves wide viewing.
Loved it.

Cry Wolf 2005,  PG-13)
Cry Wolf
Good movie...
I was surprised about this movie, I expected a slasher with some plot that would be an interesting way to kill some time and entertain myself (I get passes, working at the movies has its advantages). In the end, I was shocked to see what kind of movie Cry Wolf is.
First off, the movie goes out and establishes the characters and in the end twists the words 'believe' and 'lie' extremely well and it'd be hard to go in depth without spoiling it for you. The ending also has 2-3 twists that are extremely well performed, also the acting is solid to.
One complaint was it was PG 13, but if you see the movie, YOU'LL KNOW WHY THE MOVIE IS PG 13 AND WHY THEY Didn't GO TO IN DEPTH IN THE KILLINGS.
In the end, see Cry Wolf, it is way better than what you think it was going to be and you'll like it.
I guarantee it.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) 2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
Good movie...
Hellboy 2 is such an exciting movie, visually and mentally. This is much better than the first Hellboy and I liked the first one a lot. Guillermo Del Toro is one of the best directors of our time (in sci-fi genre). This movie is about an evil elf who wants to unlock the dormant golden army to dominate Earth and take back what he thinks is rightfully his. But, our favorite red action hero, Hellboy and the rest of his FBI gang including Abe Sapien, the German Johan Krauss, and Hellboy's girlfriend, Liz is not about to let that happen. The visuals are fantastic. This is one of the reasons Del Toro is a great director. He is creative designing these creatures in this movie. I really liked the Angel of Death. The acting is pretty good. Ron Perlman did a superb job playing the wisecracking Hellboy. The music is even better than the first film. I like Danny Elfman more than Marco Beltrami. This film may be a bit scary for younger children.
I like it.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 2008,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Awesome movie...
This movie really was fantastic if you love the Indiana Jones movies. The older movies were mildly cheesy as well, and had their fair share of sci-fi folklore, and that's what this movie does. I know people were disappointed by the whole aliens thing, but to tell the truth, it had to be done to explain the mystery of the crystal skulls. Everything they said about them is true -- even with today's technology we don't know how they made them. And the fact that they popped up all over the world raised questions. The only part I didn't like was the very end, but other than that I was OK with the alien plot. It was deeper than that. All in all, though, it was great acting, classic Harrison Ford, Shia Lebouf did a great job -- although I don't know whether a spin off for Mutt Jones is a good idea -- but it was very entertaining and it stayed true to the attitude and attributes of the other Indiana Jones movies.
I love it.

The Incredible Hulk 2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
Awesome movie...
By the looks of the ending of Ang Lee's Hulk (2003) it seemed that there is going to be a sequel. After 5 years we now have The Incredible Hulk which is a reboot like Batman Begins. The reboot was a better idea than a sequel because Hulk (2003) wasn't a bad movie but wasn't even great either and was better off as a one film itself. But if the first attempt at a Hulk movie left you feeling a little green, good news! This version has a whole new cast, a whole new mood, and even a whole new retelling of The Hulk's origin
When I saw the trailer of The Incredible Hulk I was like "Wow this movie looks cool" and it lived up to my expectation also the trailer did not give too much away about the plot. The film was outrageously entertaining, fun and a perfect popcorn movie. It is the same director of The Transporter 2 so it is bound to have good action. You can see every penny spent from the $130 million budget. It is roughly (not exactly) the same amount as Hulk (2003) and The Incredible Hulk looks much, much more expensive.
The story is about Bruce Banner who is trying to cure is condition that turns him into a monster but is going to use it as his weapon against the Abomination. The plot may seem simple but it is better that way because you can just concentrate on the action and the monsters.
This time the Hulk is more darker and sinister looking and is more muscular than Ang Lee's Hulk. The Abomination was the icing & cherry on the cake and I'm glad that they had a proper villain this time. His name really does match his personality and he is not wearing any underpants, so girls you might want to look away otherwise you might get a fright. Overall this movie is Incredible not an Abomination.
I love it.

Iron Man 2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
Awesome movie...
"Iron Man" has just became one of my top 3 favorite super hero films of all time. The film was just, excellent! I was wondering if it would even be good or not since there has been some comic book film adaptations that have not done well since the boom started in the last 10 years or so. They are either a hit or a miss. But I applaud Marvel comics for what this film brings because "Iron Man" is definitely a hit.
Robert Downey Jr, who has completely redeemed himself with "Iron Man", plays Tony Stark. Even though Stark does show that he loves life, he is also considered by many, to be a person who really doesn't care about other people's feelings much. He is super wealthy, and his company makes military weapons, some of which he designed himself. But because of a trip to show off his newest weapon called Jericho in Afghanistan, something terrible will happen to him. He will ultimately triumph, and it will completely turn him around. Not only does he become 'Iron Man', but he also becomes a much better person in general. After Stark gets back from the Middle East, little does he know, the person who helped build his company's empire after his father died, has a super surprise in store for him.
The special effects were totally awesome. Some of the best I've ever seen in films. I enjoyed seeing Jeff Bridges in this film as Obadiah Stane, who also ends up being the 'Iron Monger'. This is not a first for a film company to put an older actor in as a super villain. It has been done before when Jack Nicholson was the 'Joker' AKA Jack Napier, in the Batman film of 1989, directed by Tim Burton, which is based off of DC comics.
"Iron Man" also has several comedic elements that made me laugh numerous times. Terrance Howard, who plays Jim Rhodes, does an excellent job. The songs, by bands AC/DC and Black Sabbath (very "ironic" heh), were excellent choices for the film. But what I liked the most of all, is what Stark says at the end of the film.
I love it.

Hancock 2008,  PG-13)
Hancock
Good movie...
Hancock was a pretty interesting as well as entertaining movie. It definitely wasn't your typical superhero movie; and it wasn't originally a DC or Marvel comic. It's more about what would happen if someone with superheroes was around in modern times, and that is what makes it interesting. If there's some property damage done while catching criminals, people will be angry; if a vigilante has a bad attitude, people will be angry. I suppose Batman explores some of that not being liked by the public, as well as the bad attitude and personal trauma of the hero, but I found Hancock to be quite original in its handling of these issues. I liked the media attention and the use of sunglasses as a "mask" of sorts. I really liked how Hancock progresses as a character, and I liked the other characters as well. Usually little kids in movies annoy me, but the son of the supporting character was pretty cute and endearing. This isn't really a hero movie where there is a superhero and a super villain; I think it's more about what it means to be a human and relate to other people, to do good things and the desire to be accepted. I think the best part of Hancock is that it's about a superhuman who is just very human. It was a lot of fun.
I like it.

The Dark Knight 2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Great movie...
The Dark Knight is stunning, in every sense the word. Whether you look at the acting, the directing, the writing, or any other aspect of the movie, it's hard to find a weak point.
Nolan returns to do another incredible job at directing, and once again raises the bar for the Batman series. He creates a perfect balance between having The Dark Knight be a drama about the characters in it and an action-packed crime saga.
The acting alone is terrific. Christian Bale is a natural as Bruce Wayne, and also makes the best Batman I've seen yet, and by his side is Michael Caine, who just seems to fit perfectly as Alfred. Maggie Gyllenhaal does quite well as Rachel and Aaron Eckhart pulls off the transformation from Harvey Dent to Two-Face. Gary Oldman playing Gordon deserves an honorable mention. And then there's Heath Ledger, whose performance alone is nothing short of amazing. A few years ago most people would've said that he would be best known for and remembered by his starring role in Brokeback Mountain. Not anymore.
There's a constant internal struggle for Bruce Wayne, who does all he can to keep the difference between himself and Batman, and the difference between what is right and what has to be done. And all the while chaos reigns in the streets of Gotham, compliments of the Joker, who seems to be the one man who can bring down Batman.
All in all, there is nothing disappointing about The Dark Knight. For a movie that's two and a half hours long, there isn't a dull moment. Living up to the expectations and hype seemed impossible for it to do, but somehow The Dark Knight not only does, but surpasses it.
I love it.

Daredevil
Poor movie...
Before The Dark Knight could perfect, the dark and gritty atmosphere Daredevil tried to do it. Lets face it, there are a lot of problems with this movie. One of the main things was that i felt like they just threw this movie together. Like they had a small budget or something. The script was so bad that the actors didn't even try and make it work. Ben Affleck was so wooden that i was in pain just watching him "act" Daredevil also tried to be like the comics but it failed. When i read the comics and then watch the film, i go "I can see what they were trying to do here" but it just doesn't work. There aren't many redeeming qualities about this movie. I liked Bullseye and The Kingpin was awesome. The only change that really worked was The Kingpin. In the comics i go "okay a fat guy who cares?" but in this movie he seems like a real crime lord. Daredevil had the potential to be a lot better and if Marvel gets the rights and a few good writers i would reboot it. :)

The Village 2004,  PG-13)
The Village
Good movie...
You should watch this movie with an open mind. If you watch this movie hoping that there will be a twist somewhere, then you won't enjoy it. Why should all Night Shyamalan's movie should have a twist? Lot of you guys watch it with some vague expectation. Basically it doesn't fall under horror genre. It is more a love story sweetly told. Signs did have some stupid moments. You cannot say there is anything stupid in this movie. Story telling was brilliant. Casting was also great. But the way they have captured the landscapes and woods was top rate. It had great scope for a horror story. But director took a turn. No complaints. Nevertheless it is a movie worth watching. Please people do not watch it with a hope there will be dramatic twists. Just because Night Shyamalan directs it doesn't have to have dramatic twists like you found in sixth sense.
I like it.

Signs 2002,  PG-13)
Signs
Good movie...
"There's a monster outside my room, can I have a glass of water?" says little Boy Hess in the most frightening movie of that year. The movie is about Mel Gibson and his family uncover crop circles that may lead to the unthinkable. The movie has quite some frightening moments in it. Such as something involving a television screen. I have never heard an audience scream so loud to jump scenes. The movie starts a little slow but then gets quickly to the point after the word above. The film has quite some hilarious moments to it, such as when Gibson and Phoenix are trying to find a "culprit" and the words they are saying are so funny. The ending is a different ballgame. It's smart and intelligent, yet it is rather stupid. As for the Oscar nominations, expect a Best Director and Best Music.
I like it.

The Mist 2007,  R)
The Mist
Amazing movie...
On first impressions The Mist doesn't remotely seem like the kind of film anyone should be excited about. The Mist, what? A bit like The Fog, then. Stephen King's The Mist, oh, that makes it even worse. Directed by Frank Darabont, since when did he direct horror films? Okay, so he scripted Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and The Blob, not bad films, but not classics in any sense. Starring Thomas Jane, has anyone seen The Punisher. And, to cap it all, The Mist died a quick death at the US box office. It'll probably go straight to DVD in the UK.
The only reason I bought and watched the film was on a recommendation from a friend. He pleaded: "You have to see this film. You won't believe how good it is." So I put his judgment to the test.
And thank God. This is a great horror film. From the opening scene, Darabont sets a tone that's creepy, sinister and beautifully judged. The script is realistic, the character are believable and the direction... Darabont has almost reinvented himself. The Mist is dark, scary and even funny (intentionally). You care about the characters, the scary scenes are scary, and the whole film is carried off with an efficiency, a lack of pretension and a strong idea of what makes a good, if not great, horror film.
And the ending... how dark can you get? I can understand why this didn't do well at the box office. But neither did Shawshank Redemption...
I enjoyed that.

The Sixth Sense 1999,  PG-13)
The Sixth Sense
Good movie...
M. Night Shyamalan has created something that will not, can not be outdone. This film is so simple, yet so complex. It is so out there, yet one gets a strange feeling from the film because it seems so real. The acting is amazing. Bruce Willis has never been better. Toni Collette is at the top of her game. Haley Joel Osment was robbed at the Academy Awards, because he gave in this film the single best child performance and one of the greatest performances of all time (adult or child) in this movie. The only child performances that rival his in this movie are Osment's other performances. And let's not forget Olivia Williams who had perhaps the hardest time since she had to play the part that can be viewed on two very different levels. *hint hint* Perfect.
I like it.

Seven (Se7en) 1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
Good movie...
A stand out film dealing with a particularly unpleasant Serial Killer, "Se7en" (along with "Silence of the Lambs"), is something of a milestone in this genre. An intelligent script, and admirable actors including the excellent Morgan Freeman, Prad Pitt, Gwenth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey, with a cinema noir style, and very grisly murders representing the Seven Deadly Sins. It is the performances however that lifts this movie above the average, Morgan Freeman as the older world wise detective, Pitt almost manic as his young enthusiastic sidekick, Poltrow plays the wife with a fine degree of sensitivity, and Spacey does his usual brilliant psycho routine. There is a pivotal scene with Freeman and Paltrow in a café which shows the depth of performances here. They are believable characters in a dark disturbing world wherein it always seems to be raining. An effective thriller with tight direction and atmospheric photography.
I enjoyed that.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor 2008,  PG-13)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Cheap movie...
I was really disappointed by this movie. Seeing as I really enjoyed the first two Mummy movies, I thought that this one would be decent at least. Anyway, let me explain why I thought this movie was terrible. This movie is nothing like previous Mummy films. At least the first Mummy, which was excellent because it combined drama with comedy successfully and had a good storyline. This one does a horrible job of combining drama with comedy. Whenever the Mummy 3 tries to be funny, which is most of the time(there is a bad joke every 30 seconds), it fails miserably, you end up trying to figure out a reason to laugh but can't find one. Another thing was that the story was terrible, it felt boring and that it had no point(at one point in the movie I almost fell asleep from boredom). The action and effects are no good either. The creatures all look fake and are not convincing. The one thing that made me laugh was how fake the effects were. In my opinion, I think that the studio wanted to make big money and decided that a lot of people would go see this movie out of curiosity based on the success of the first two. Then pulled a story out of nowhere and made this catastrophe. All in all a disappointing movie that is only successful in boring its audience trying to be funny. The only funny thing is how bad this movie is.
It just has the name of the Mummy series.

What Dreams May Come 1998,  PG-13)
What Dreams May Come
Excellent movie...
I laughed and cried. It was not exactly what I expected... a journey into a supernatural realm. The special effects were simply awesome! Robin Williams will never cease to amaze me. He gave a wonderful performance, as did Annabella Sciora, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. True love, the kind that puts your partner before yourself, is clearly shown in this film. The film also makes you what to call everyone you haven't talked to for a while and let them know how you feel about them. It gives the viewer lots to discuss.
While very memorable, curiously, the movie never intends for its audience to be close-minded enough to think that this is, with certainty, what happens after you die. It is more of a suggestion, an analogy, of how precious life is, and how deep the bond of love is between some people, no matter what happens.
I like it.

Awakenings 1990,  PG-13)
Awakenings
Excellent movie...
Here's a good example of how you can still make a great modern-day movie without profanity, violence or sex.
This is an amazing story, based on fact, about about a doctor who makes great progress fighting an illness that heretofore was considered incurable. These were patients in catatonic states, and the good doctor uses an experimental drug to snap these people back to reality and to a normal life as they once had. The patients, and how they react, both before and after the medications, is really fascinating.
Robert De Niro is outstanding as one of the patients, but that's not a surprise knowing all the fine acting performances he's done over the years. Robin Williams, relatively new to dramatic acting when this came out, was also excellent in a very low-key role. Penelope Ann Miller is extremely sweet and appealing. I wish both she and Williams would do more roles like that.
With multiple viewings, I came to appreciate the minor characters in here a lot more, such as De Niro's mother, played by Ruth Nelson, whom I fondly remember in the 1945 film "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn." What a treat is was to see her again and this was just two years before she died. Also, Alice Drummund as the patient known as "Lucy" was notable.
Language-wise, i's almost stunning to watch a movie which has De Niro, Williams, Miller and John Heard and not hear one profane word uttered! (The film isn't perfect, however, as some idiot decided to insert one f-word, and in a totally unnecessary circumstance.)
This is a memorable story and one I guarantee you won't forget because the subject matter is so different.
I really like it.

Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992,  R)
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Good movie...
This is the best rendition of Dracula ever captured on film. Gary Oldman's dark and sensual personae outshines any other vampire who ever dare put on a cape. To me Gary Oldman is the most talented and underrated actor ever. He becomes who he is playing, however in this role... Dracula became him... Oldman set the bar so high it is untouchable even to Bela Lugosi. Winona Ryder's delicateness suited the role of Mina/Elisabeta nicely and Keanu Reeves played the unsuspecting and naive Jonathan with satisfaction. However the whole movie comes together because of Gary Oldman's intoxicating essence. He draws the viewers into his darkness and passion and guides them through until the end. This film is drastically romantic and hauntingly captivating- just like a real Dracula movie should be. The cinematography deserved Oldman's phenomenal performance and perfectly created a true vampire realm.
I should mention Antony Hopkins appearance in this movie made it authentic. Francis Ford Coppola is brilliant. This is the spirit of the vampire.
I like it.

Dog Day Afternoon 1975,  R)
Dog Day Afternoon
Great movie...
This high-tension thriller captures the true events of one summer afternoon when accomplices Sonny (Pacino) and Sal (Calzale) walk into a Brooklyn bank, and rob it.
Of course not all goes to plan. An hour later they're still inside and the bank is surrounded. Cops, media, crowds of fans and the FBI are each hanging to Sonny's every word ? and why? Because he has 9 hostages as pawns, a bank as his board and all the time in the world to think up a strategy. Inside the bank however is a different story. You can't help but sympathize with Sonny (due to Pacino's terrific performance) as the first-time bank robber who's unprepared, out of his depth, and just trying to think up a way out. Even the audience begin to feel the effects of Stockholm Syndrome as Pacino's character gains our affections. The 'villain who's a nice guy at heart' could have been disastrously cliché but Pacino's portrayal is nothing short of brilliance. Even Sal with his morbid disposition is magnetizing as his childlike innocence shines through. Calzale was wonderfully cast as this awkward accomplice, wordlessly following Sonny. A huge success combining the skills of Lumet with the talent of Pacino for the second time in Pacino's best role yet. A true story that's compelling and tragic but most of all tangible ? and that's what makes it so powerful.
I enjoyed that.

No Country for Old Men 2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
Pretty good movie...
At first, I thought this was a pretty good movie. I was entertained for most of it with good action scenes and was on the edge of my seat for a couple seats because of the suspense.
However, once the movie ended I just gave a big "WHAT?" Did they seriously just end the movie like that? I do not understand how a writer could go through an entire movie about one plot of a guy chasing another guy...and then just end it with the cop who did nothing throughout the whole movie talking about his dream. Now I was trying to think about the symbolism behind the last scene and the only thing I could think of was that the dream signified that Tommy Lee Jones knew that the killer was coming for him next. He retired because he knew there was no use looking for the killer anymore because he was going to come after him. But in a movie like this, I don't think that is an effective ending. This wasn't some crappy multi-themed no plot movie. It had lots of action and a distinct chain of events plot and then it was ruined by the ending.
Anyway I kind of enjoyed that but...

Half Moon (Niwe Mung) 2007,  Unrated)
Half Moon (Niwe Mung)
Excellent movie...
Half Moon is a road movie with a difference. An elderly man Moma (portrayed with great range and nuance by Ismail Ghaffari), a celebrity singer in his native Iraqi Kurdistan, sets out by bus from Iran with an entourage of his musician sons to his homeland to perform in a large public concert. With seven months of rehearsals, official permits and visas carefully arranged, nothing could go wrong, right? Well, this is border country between bitter enemies Iran, Iraq and the highly marginalized Kurds who are basically a dispossessed people without a country and held in contempt by both countries as well as Turkey. This film illustrates what can go wrong.
While beautifully filmed in some beautifully stark landscapes, the real richness of Half Moon - like most Iranian films screened here - is in the simplicity of the story and the attention to detail to the struggles of seemingly mundane activities. The cultural aspects are especially fascinating. The authority of Moma as the family patriarch is evident; his middle aged sons all hold him in high esteem and cower before him. Not unexpectedly,as Iran does not allow women to sing in public, there are specific issues with involving a woman in such a cultural endeavour.
The family and social dynamics depicted breathe life into this little gem of a film. Music is a universal language that binds people, so when contempt is shown by the Iranian border guards, it has a powerful effect on the audience.
It was interesting to see the advancement of technologies such as cell phones and wireless Internet laptops creeping into these otherwise isolated communities. The film is full of beautifully understated performances and naturalistic humour and drama. I highly recommend it

Ned Kelly 2004,  R)
Ned Kelly
Excellent movie...
Ned Kelly is the story of the famous Australian outlaw but it shows him in such a light that you feel so sorry for him. The amazing acting that Heath Ledger gave to this film really opened him up to his outstanding reviews for this and other movies. The raw power of this movie really makes you think about how hard the Irish immigrants in Australia had it in the 1800's. Gregor Jordan spares no expense in building this film to all of its potential. Orlando Bloom does an amazing job as sidekick Joe Byrne. His suave ways of acting around women really showed Orlando's slicker side in films. Laurence Kinlan and Phil Barantini's portrayals of Dan Kelly and Steve Hart were very powerful, especially at the end when they both have to decide what to do when they are trapped in the burning bar (trying not to give anything away here!) Naomi Watts was astonishingly talented at playing Julia Cook, Ned Kelly's secret lover, of course the fact that he was actually sleeping with her off set might have helped a little bit. Over all this movie is tremendous, and I HIGHLY recommend renting/buying this film.
I like it.

Very good movie...
Lords Of Dogtown is a true story about three nobody Zephyr kids and how they rise to the top and become rich and famous. They encounter a few problems, but remain friends to the end no matter what. With amazing performances by Heath Ledger, Johnny Knoxville, and Emile Hirsch, this movie is a great buddy film that you'll want to watch over and over and over and over.....I laughed, I cried, I screamed in anger, it was just all around great. Anyway, this movie will have you skateboarding by it's end! This is Spooky reporting for Lords of Dogtown.

Monster's Ball 2001,  R)
Monster's Ball
Great movie...
Monster's Ball wasn't made with a big budget by some very well known director. And to make things "worse", it's controversial as well because the story isn't exactly about a family living together happy with more money than there is water in the sea. And they weren't afraid to put a lot of racism in it, which was necessary to make this movie believable, but for some "politically correct" people, already reasons enough to say they didn't like it.
The movie tells us the story of Hank Grotowski (Billy Bob Thornton), a racist white prison guard who works on Death Row and Leticia Musgrove (Halle Berry), a black woman whose husband is about to be executed. Hank lives with his father and his son (Heath Ledger), who he really hates, under the same roof. But when a tragedy takes his son away, he starts thinking about his ideas. In the mean while he has met Leticia, not knowing who she really is and soon they fall in love with each other. This is the start of a relationship based rather on desperation than on love.
Monster's ball doesn't use cheap Hollywood sentiment like you might expect from this kind of movies, but is sincere and very compelling. This is of course also thanks to excellent performances. Halle Berry deservedly won the 2001 Academy Award as best actress for her role as the tragic Leticia. She displays a wide range of emotions from pity to sadness to dispare to ecstacy to happiness, but what I don't understand is why Billy Bob Thornton wasn't even nominated. His character may not be as likable and no he isn't as good looking as Berry, but his performance certainly wasn't any less. In fact, the entire movie was more than just worth a watch.
Ledger, in an all too brief role, shines as the son who really doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps.
It's very nice to see that there still are unknown directors who can make good movies with a good story, some fine actors and a small budget. I really enjoyed it and that's why I give it an 7/10.

Stranger Than Fiction
Good Movie...
Another good movie that proves that mainly comedic actors can perform well in dramas, Stranger than Fiction is a drama with a bit of comedy thrown in.
Will Ferrell follows in the footsteps of comedic actors who have made the transition to dramas such as Jim Carrey (The Mask to The Truman Show),Robin Williams (Mrs.Doubtfire to Good Will Hunting),Tom Hanks (Big to Philadelphia),Adam Sandler (Click-Reign Over Me).Besides starring Will Ferrell, the supporting cast includes the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Quenn Latifah and Emma Thompson. For this film,Will Ferrell was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor-Musical or Comedy but I feel that instead of that particular award that Will Ferrell's Golden Globe nomination should have been in the Drama category.Stranger than Fiction in a way has a vibrant feel reminiscent to The Truman Show and this film indeed borrows certain elements from that film such as the main characters unaware of their surroundings until something out of the ordinary happens.Bravo!

Greetings again from the darkness. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this movie ... except that Kate Hudson remains luminescent on screen.
On top of that, we can't help but wonder about the age difference between Dillon and Hudson as newlyweds. Unlike his role in "There's Something About Mary", Dillon plays pretty much the straight guy to Wilson's motel lounge quality comedian act.
Michael Douglas, Seth Rogen and Lance Armstrong provide the few laughs. Not even sure what to call this one. It is not funny enough to be a comedy and not romantic enough to be a RomCom. What I do know, is that it is a POOR film.

Flags of Our Fathers 2006,  R)
Flags of Our Fathers
Good movie...
Flag of Our Fathers is an Oscar-worthy piece of work. It tells the true story of what really happened during the flag-raising at Iwo Jima. It's kind of like a mini-documentary with brand name actors made into a motion picture. Even if the information is not true, it's very interesting. Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach, and Jesse Bradford were all excellent. Even in their limited time on the screen, Paul Walker and Robert Patrick were great. I liked the fact that this movie addressed human civil rights between the whites and the Native Americans. I also enjoyed the flashbacks in this film. Clint Eastwood did a great job with an accurate WWII movie. I recommend this to everyone especially people who are studying WWII in school.

Taken
Great movie...
First thing to say is, this is a great and fun movie from beginning to end. If you like the Bourne titles then you will love this movie. The fighting style and the way things get done is similar to Matt Damon's character and it doesn't get old and is interesting and great to watch throughout the whole movie.
The movie has a similar plot to other action thrillers, but even though you may know the outcome, it is the journey that counts in this movie. It is the way he does what he does, the way that he fights and overcomes problems that draws you into the movie and makes this movie so great to watch.
Liam Neeson is such a great cast for the main character. He delivers an outstanding performance. I love to see an actor that can portray himself in anyway, a good guy or a bad guy and in this film he fights for his daughter and he will not stop for anything. You love to watch him seek revenge and feel for him the whole time, maybe just because it's Liam Neeson. Can you help yourself from loving this guy? He is such a great actor and shows himself as a badass with charm.
If you love the Bourne titles you must see this movie. All i can say is its so much fun to watch it, love it and go check it out.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Excellent movie...
From time to time there's a movie that amazes us for its excellent story, magnificent cast and more great things and that becomes instantly into a masterpiece. That's the case of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. David Fincher's latest film is one of those movies that catches you from the very beginning with its fantasy, romance, action and some moments of humor.
The movie tells the interesting story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences. The plot is convincing and very well developed by Eric Roth. David Fincher makes a magnificent work directing, although it is a two hour and a half movie, it has a fast paced rhythm making it enjoyable and it never bores you. It has excellent special effects, the makeup is wonderful, great locations, the movie is set to the perfection in the different years that occurs in the movie.
The cast is simply great, Brad Pitt gives us one of his best performances ever, Cate Blanchett is fantastic as Daisy, Tilda Swinton is very convincing as Elizabeth Abott and the secondary roles of Julia Ormond (Caroline), Taraji P. Henson (Queenie) and Jason Flemyng (Thomas Button) gives a really good support to the movie. In conclusion, A very entertaining movie worth to see. It is destined to be a masterpiece and the great nominee of the 81th Academy Awards.

Transporter 3
Poor movie...
When I heard this movie was coming out I was excited, I even watched the two previous installments the day before. Compared to the previous installments this one was quite frankly boring. Don't get me wrong when the action sequences were on they were great and somewhat daring, but overall too much unnecessary dialogue. It went from outstanding sequences to absolute mundane conversation for what felt like very long periods of time. The female lead and generally all her dialogue and role was a horrible choice and in my opinion is what ruined what would have been a brilliant third installment. I hope when this goes to DVD they do a re-edit and just put back in some deleted action and scrap the boring dialogue.
Good story, good action, poorly executed.

21 Grams 2003,  R)
21 Grams
Good movie...
The movie is intense, depressing, but it is good for sure. All the actors are great in their roles, specially Benicio Del Toro and Naomi Watts and of course Sean Penn has the most unconventional assignment.
The message of this movie is; that we can lose our loved ones at any moment and of course we'll miss them eternally, but we must be strong and realize that life goes on.
21 Grams is a movie which interweaves several plot lines and it is edited in a non-linear arrangement that can bother many people and make us confused in the beginning. (A good choice would be to watch the movie two times to get it well)
The plot shows the consequences of a tragic automobile accident that changed the life of the three main characters: Jack Jordan, a former convict, Paul Rivers, a mathematics professor with a heart condition and Christina Peck, a young mother who is recovering from a drug addiction with a supportive husband and their two daughters.
I like it.

Babylon A.D.
Poor movie...
Wow, I don't even know where to start. I'd first like to say that, I'm usually generous and optimistic when I see movies, and usually my friends say suck, I say they are okay, or when my friends say they are okay, I say it was great.
This one failed in two very important aspects of storytelling. One; they were confused as to what the climax really was. Two; there's no resolution or their pathetic excuse for one was terrible. I don't know whether they are setting up for a sequel or what but the ending was laughable. It's all disappointing because the movie looked liked it had potential. The acting was average, but I didn't expect much from Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh did a decent job.

Ben-Hur 1959,  G)
Ben-Hur
A masterpiece...
What can you say about this film? It has everything, magnificent script, superb acting ,and the most famous chariot race in Hollywood history. Although the chariot race is the centrepiece of this spectacular ,it is by no means the only highlight. Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) is the victim of a terrible miscarriage of justice on himself and family and his dramatic adventures in the desert, at sea and finally back in Rome are just brimming with highlights. At the same time his meetings with Christ just add to the Wonderful drama that enfolds in this movie. It has a magnificent musical score which just adds to the drama, and I suspect the climax of the film would only leave the stone hearted unmoved. It has other great stars who make this a must see film, particularly Jack Hawkins, Haya Harareet, Hugh Griffith and Stephen Boyd.
I love it.

Without A Paddle 2004,  PG-13)
Without A Paddle
Good movie...
Without A Paddle was a good movie if you're looking for nothing more than a laugh. Watching this movie will pretty much guarantee a night well spent and a good time. Although, this movie is pretty cheesy. The plot is cheesy. The laughs are cheesy. But, luckily it has some genuinely funny moments too to bring the movie through to its end. The acting is mediocre at best, but great acting isn't necessarily needed for a movie of this kind.
Nobody expected it to be an Oscar winner. Also this movie doesn't need to get its laughs from raunchy moments and attempts at teenager humour like some other "road trip" movies. Overall, this movie is pretty good for its kind and would be a good movie to see with friends.
I like it.

Sweet Home Alabama 2002,  PG-13)
Sweet Home Alabama
Very good movie...
It is a very good movie with charm, humor, sadness and most of all, genial acting! Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas are the two characters that you can relate to. Especially the dog part is very fun. I think what makes this movie good is that it is a story you can relate to, but made with humor. Yet there are a part sadness in the story.
It begins with that Melanie is asked by the son of the mayor if she wants to marry him. Then she says yes, but she has things to make up and decides to go down to her hometown in Alabama to get a divorce from her husband who she hasn't met for years, not after she lost her child and he was drunk on their wedding.
The concept and plot is very smart, when the tone is told with humour even in situations that are serious. In fact, if the movie hadn't humor, it had been falling apart. The humor is lifting the story to a little more than just good. It is so fun, so full of genial and amusing characters, excellent acting and an excellent ending. Maybe a movie that mostly girls like to watch, but anyway a good movie.
I like it.

27 Dresses 2008,  PG-13)
27 Dresses
Good movie...
This film is about a woman who is madly in love with her boss, and wants to get married. She has attended 27 weddings, but sadly none of which her own.
27 Dresses is more pleasant than I thought it would be. I was worried that I would have to see 27 weddings in the film, but fortunately I did not. Normally, in a romantic comedy it does not require much acting, but Katherine Heigl manages to put in good acting to portray her jealousy towards her sister. Katherine Heigl is sweet and adorable, and she has a quality that makes the viewers connect to her.
Though the romance subplot is predictable, it story is saved by the rivalry and jealousy between sisters. This subplot is told in a tabloid way, which is fun and entertaining. The ending, which features a lot of dresses, is sweet and symbolically complete. 27 Dresses provides adequate brain off entertainment for the family.
I kind of enjoyed that.

The Road
Not bad movie...

"We are not gonna quit. We are gonna survive this." The Man

The vast majority of the film is Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee on their quest for the coast ... their ultimate goal for survival. The gray and lifeless landscape would (and does) suck the hope and soul right out of most. Viggo keeps trudging while teaching his young, more sensitive son, who by the way, is a dead ringer for Charlize (were she a 12 year old boy). The grayness of the film is so intense, that the dream/flashback sequences couldn't help but make me wonder if life were black and white, would dreams be vivid and colorful?
My suggestion: see "The Road" when you are already in a bad mood or feeling sad about something. You won't necessarily feel happy afterward, but you'll feel slightly better by appreciating things you have previously taken for granted, like "food" and "shoes" and "not being cannibalized".

The Savages
Wonderful movie...
((Perfect blend of comedy and tragedy with a showcase of excellent American acting at its finest with Linney and Hoffman as the titular siblings facing a rough hurdle: caring for there increasingly dementia plagued estranged father.))
What a wonderful, unexpected surprise this film is! I am perhaps not completely objective because I adore Laura Linney, but this movie is entertaining and moving in ways that take the viewer completely by surprise. The plot is simple and universal: two estranged siblings having to cope with the degrading health of their elderly (and even more estranged) father. Anyone who has had to deal with an ailing parent will laugh and cry through this film. The real power of this film comes from the bravura performances by Linney, Hoffman, and Bosco. These three actors can do more with silences and facial and body expressions that just about anyone on the screens today. Watching these gifted actors at their trade makes for a stunning film experience and one that shakes us all a bit to think about things we don't wish to consider - death, care of the elderly, and finding life in a world that usually runs a bit on the crazy side. Highly recommended.

Angels and Demons is basically about a Havard religious symbologist, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) who is trying to help save the Vatican from an old enemy (The Illuminati) who is going to blow the Vatican up (with Anti-Matter) at midnight on the night of conclave and kill 4 Cardinals. He teams up with Vittoria Vetra and some Swiss Guard members, and tries to follow the ancient Path of Illumination which is where the murders of the 4 preferiti Cardinals is going to take place. At the same time he is trying to figure out where the anti-matter canister is and save the Catholic Church...

The Box 2009,  PG-13)
The Box
Neutral movie...
A box with a button provides a couple with the opportunity to be financially free, but the cost is the life of someone they've never met. This is a very tedious film to watch. Richard Kelly, who wrote and directed it, decided to make a film without any payoff. You are taken on a ride of slow build ups, one after the other with minor revelations at best. At certain moments, I thought to myself, this will have major significance at the end, but nothing does. The film just leaves one thinking, "This story could have been told in 30 minutes, without all the stretched out nonsense." The only reason that I watched this movie was because of my favorite actress Cameron Diaz. I will hope you avoid this god-awful film and maintain your sanity by doing so.
This movie was pretty much the worst out of the ones I've ever seen before. It was unpredictable, yet predictable at the same time, and not even in a good way. You'd think a movie with such a simple title would have at least a decent plot behind it, but no.
I literally sat in my sofa throughout the credits, trying to figure out what the hell just happened!!!

Where the Wild Things Are
Good movie...
The story is about 11 year old Max (Max Records) who imagines a world of being wild and beyond, but in reality he feels very much alone, and also feels ignored by his mother (Caterine Keener) and sister. One night after an angry dispute with his mother. Max runs away, he finds a boat, and sets sail, he comes across an island. When he sets foot on the island he finds it is populated by 8 foot tall creatures. When they discover Max is there, the creatures want to eat him, but max tells them, they can't cause he is a king, soon after that the creatures nominate him as there ruler.
I really enjoyed this film. Maurice Sendak's book was brought to the big screen brilliantly. It will make you feel like your a kid again reading the book. Of course I've never read it but watching it made me feel back to childhood and reading my story books. The creatures where done with such perfection, well voiced by James Gandolfini, Lauren Ambrose, Chris Cooper, Catherine O'Hara, and Paul Dano. Max Records is next best child actor....

The Lovely Bones
Excellent movie...
This is a great movie and anyone who gives it one star is a loser who doesn't like movies. It's about this girl who is murdered and she ends up between earth and heaven. The special effects are just extremely stunning and beautiful. The acting is powerful, raw, emotional and spectacular beyond belief. It has some funny parts, some romance in it and mostly tear jerking scenes.
I really enjoyed this movie and Peter Jackson is an incredible director. I know if I read the book, it probably wouldn't compare to the visual stuff but it would probably be pretty good. I would highly suggest seeing this movie because it is in my top ten of greatest movies of all time. Don't miss it.

Dear John
Excellent movie...
Dear John was an absolutely fabulous movie. From the choice of the actors to the scenery, it was a truly magnificent showing, tantalizing me to read the book. Surprisingly, the choice of actors were such a great choice. Channing was amazing in it. He proves in this movie that he's not just a cute face! This boy can really act, and it was impressive. You are cheering for him the whole time! Amanda, having the impression of a young teenage girl from her previous works, awed me at the sight of her maturity and great talent in this movie. Her talent was stunning. The plot was absolutely stunning and unpredictable, and has sometimes ended me in tears. Dear John turned out to be an excellent movie, ranging from a very sweet collection of music to the choices of characters. If you love The Notebook, then give Dear John a look.
I loved it.

Offside 2007,  PG)
Offside
Great movie...
The film opens on the day of a crucial World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Bahrain, a girl is trying to get in to Tehran's Azadi Stadium by dressing like a boy, it looks like she will get in until a soldier tries to search her. Once caught she is taken to a small enclosure high up on the outside of the stadium where there are a handful of women who had already been caught, here they are guarded by a small group of conscript soldiers who's leader would rather be back home tending his livestock. We never learn the character's names but we get to know them as people as the girls plead with the guards to let them watch though a nearby gap in the wall and when refused try to get them to at least provide a commentary.
As well as making an important point about the rigid gender segregation in much of present day Iran the film contains many hilarious moments such as the "disguise" one of the girls is made to wear when going to the toilet and the girl who disguised herself as a soldier and was only caught because she chose to watch the match from a seat reserved for a senior officer. The girls enthusiasm for the game is such that by the end the viewer is likely to be on the edge of their seat hoping that Iran will win and thus get to go to the finals in Germany. The soldiers aren't shown as fundamentalists, they are just conscripts who are there because they have to be and when explaining to the girls why woman can't watch men's sports don't seem that convinced by their own arguments.
It is a shame that this film can't be seen in Iran itself but it is good that the wider world can see it and thus see that ordinary Iranians aren't a bunch of fanatics desperate to wage war on the west but normal people with the same passions and concerns as people everywhere. The cast did a great job in making their characters seem like real people rather than mere caricatures.

The Circle (Dayereh) 2000,  R)
The Circle (Dayereh)
Touching movie...
Devastating film that details the harsh treatment of women in Iran. The film begins with a hospital scene, where a family take the news of a new baby girl in the family so harshly that one would think the child had been stillborn. Following that the story introduces us to a group of women, one after the other, each of them recent convicts (in Iran a woman is put in jail indefinitely for riding in a car with a man she is not related to) who have their own struggles to overcome before they can seek asylum from the claustrophobic society that surrounds them. The film isn't as satisfying as it should be (even given its subject matter), and definitely deserves to be more engrossing.
The acting is excellent. The actors are no superstars and they play their role naturally. The beautiful Fereshteh Sadr Orfani is excellent in the role of the four month pregnant women who's wishing for an abortion since she's not married.
The camera work in this one is also good even if it sometimes make you a little dizzy. We feel like we're part of the action. Unfortunately This movie is band in Iran―A film to open the eyes.

Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel)
Great movie...
Gabrielle Chanel (Audrey Tautou) was left, with her sister Adrienne, at a Catholic orphanage by their father, after the suicide of her mother. Thinking it was only temporary, Gabrielle waited each Sunday, in the vestibule, for her father to visit. He never came. Thus began a tale of a young woman who learned to rely on herself and not a "man". After leaving the convent-school, she and her sister toiled as two-bit seamstresses by day and as cabaret singers by night. The sisters' act was the "innocent" type in a bawdy world, where prostitutes were also present. Their special number was a song about a dog named "Coco", resulting in a lifelong nickname for Gabrielle. One night, the boss suggests that Coco "entertain" one of the guests in a romantic way. When she refuses, he fires both her and her sister. Yet, Adrienne is whisked away to Paris by a smitten baron who promises marriage but never delivers. Coco, learning the realities of the world, likewise follows a wealthy older man, Balsan, to his castle, where she sets up residence in exchange for sexual favors...

Valentine's Day 2010,  PG-13)
Valentine's Day
Good movie...
It is not the best Romantic Comedy the world has ever seen, but it was great for laughs and fun with the girls. It is very funny, and very romantic. All the characters are interesting and you care for them. There were a few twists that I didn't expect. This movie is filled with a lot of great actors. On Valentine's Day, we see the lives of different couples and how they deal with love and friendship. Some hearts are broken, and some will find true love on this magical day.
Ashton Kutcher plays a florist named Reed Bennett who pops the question to his girlfriend. Jennifer Garner plays a teacher named Julia who falls in love with a doctor who is unfaithful. Anne Hathaway plays a receptionist named Liz who tries to hide the fact that she is a phone sex operator. A kid in Julia's class named Edison tries to send flowers to his Valentine. All this and much more happens on the day of love. I highly recommend VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Shutter Island
Excellent movie...
Martin Scorsese returns to film making after winning the academy award for The Departed with his favorite star Leonardo DiCaprio.. This time he move to a completely different script which keeps the audience humored and thrilled from the first scene till the last! The movie blew away the minds of many people, the plot being so strong and thrilling which kept the audiences guessing!
When it comes to acting Leonardo lets no stone unturned! The supremely talented actor has once again showed that why Martin casts him in his every movie as he is simply superb! He not only fits into the role smoothly but delivers a terrific performance every time! Sir Kingsley being the head psychiatrist of the asylum has also done a marvelous job!
The film is full of flashbacks and haunting dream sequences that range in location from the island itself to the concentration camp at Dachau. The audience is constantly trapped in a world where one questions what is reality and what is dream. Don't miss this one!

Sherlock Holmes 2009,  PG-13)
Sherlock Holmes
Very good movie...
What a ride. "Sherlock Holmes" left me giddy. I absolutely loved it. It was thrilling, funny, stylish, fast-paced and brilliantly acted.
Robert Downey Jr. is a delight to look at. He eats up the screen. He gives the character all sorts of mannerisms and nuances which really bring Holmes to life like never before. The chemistry and interplay between him and Jude Law is hilarious.
I wasn't a big fan of Rachel McAdams's performance, but it didn't detract from the experience. I felt she just didn't bring as much to the table as the others.
Guy Ritchie really outdoes himself here. The way he uses the camera, the motion, the fluidity, the snappy pacing - I loved every minute of it. A really fantastic movie. Well done.

Town Creek (Blood Creek)
Not bad movie...
The movie starts out slow but quickly builds up in pace and intensity. The story is somewhat strange until half of the movie where it dawns on you what is going on. It picks you up and drops you right in the middle of the action, for an exciting thrill ride.
I found this movie to be somehow good, despite the relatively unknown cast except Dominic Purcell.
But i think the main weakness of Town Creek is the numerous inconsistencies when it comes to the powers and weaknesses of the main antagonist. He holds certain powers over death but they are poorly explained and seem to only serve as device to advance the story as needed. There's talk of a third eye, but it's unclear what it does. There's talk he can't feed off his own blood and bones belonging to his family line are introduced but with little effect. There's talk people are forced to feed him but the whole process is confused, since they were apparently able to hold him thanks to runes. Why feed him at all then!!??

The Messenger 2009,  R)
The Messenger
Great drama...
Another gloomy drama depicting what life is like when back home in wartime; this movie features some really great acting performances and a subject that resonates every time very powerfully. The plot hasn't been developed too much, as the story feels more focused on the characters, on their moody and attitudes/emotions. It's about a remarkable direction relying very much on the introspective work of the lead actors. Ben Foster is terrific as a man permanently on the edge, Woody Harrelson excellent as well as one who's crossed the edge already. Impressive is also the approach to heroism, without ever simplifying it and with a strong attention to the story-telling detail. And even though the plot takes a couple of contrived turns, there's a subtle, observant film-making about what's going on inside the characters for a change.
Harrelson, Foster and Samantha Morton put on really powerful performances that I honestly believed. And the rest of the cast did a fine job, as well. The emotion was so intense that I could feel it, and I easily got sucked into the story. It was a powerful movie that really made me think about the hardships in a sincere and thoughtful way. Overall, I enjoyed the film and I will continue recommending it to all my friends because I think everybody should watch it at least once. The story sticks with you long after you finish watching the movie.

Darbareye Elly (About Elly)
Great movie...
A group of middle class Iranian friends head to the beach for the weekend. Invited along is Elly (Taraneh Alidousti), the nursery school teacher of one of the young children. But the relaxed spirits and fun filled atmosphere soon take a turn when one of the children nearly drowns and Elly goes missing. The families turn on themselves as blame and recriminations fly. And then Elly's fiancé turns up demanding answers. Much of the film's dialogue seems improvised, which gives it an unforced and natural feel; not to mention that Golshifteh Farahani's performance was completely realistic and perhaps the best.
Banned in Iran, this is a deceptively simple enough film on the surface. But like most films emerging from Iran, About Elly contains a wonderful subtext that explores the divisive nature and repressive political structure of contemporary Iran, and the film is especially critical of its social strictures that deny women rights and an opportunity to have a say in their own lives. Director Asghar Farhadi's use of hand held cameras brings a sense of urgency and tension to key scenes. The ending is nicely ambiguous, leaving audiences to make up their own minds as to Elly's fate. I really like it.

An Education 2009,  PG-13)
An Education
Great movie...
This film has it all, script, acting, warmth, pathos and wit. It is an exquisite film and beautifully crafted. Carey Mulligan is now on a trajectory to the stars with this film which is all hers. She radiates throughout the film but is no scene stealer. The talented Carey Mulligan is definitely someone to watch as her career develops. She plays her role as mature, smart and savvy -- almost a bit more than was believable, considering the circumstances of the character. Her suave and worldly love interest is well played by eter Sarsgaard, and the knot in your gut tightens as the story unfolds and you sense where it's heading. I loved the way Rosamund Pike played the girlfriend of Sarsgaard's business partner. Both she and the mother seemed to illustrate the razor's edge walked by women of the time who had to smile and pretend everything was fine even when it wasn't. So much of this movie shows women's struggle at many levels to claim choices for themselves that didn't involve sacrificing their intelligence, dignity, dreams or humanity. I think the story's initially smooth momentum becomes a bit choppy in the latter part of the film, which seemed not quite sure how to wrap up the story to a conclusion. Despite some shortcomings, the film is still definitely worth seeing.

Up in the Air 2009,  R)
Up in the Air
Great movie...
"Life is better with Company" - This movie may be slow, but it keeps you interested with its clever script and brilliant acting from George Clooney, Anna Kendrick, and Vera Farmiga. This movie involves the slow economy and a man whose terrible job is to fire people. This movie shows real people who have gotten fired, and I thought that was a witty move. The acting was done best by Anna Kendrick, who plays Jessica in Twilight. This movie shows that she can act. Anna rocks it as the assistant to George Clooney's character, Ryan Bingham. Ryan is a self centered man who just wants to be left alone. Eventually, he figures out that he doesn't want to be alone and begins a relationship with Alex (Vera Farmiga). I particularly enjoyed Vera Farmiga's character of Alex Goran. She moves from one world to another seamlessly and she's really beautiful. The script of this movie will make you laugh many times as I did. But this movie is not just a comedy, its a wonderfully created drama. Overall-This movie is the Ultimate George Clooney movie. Really funny, bitter end, clever characters, just do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

Anonyma - Eine Frau in Berlin (A Woman in Berlin) 2008,  Unrated)
Anonyma - Eine Frau in Berlin (A Woman in Berlin)
Wonderful movie...
Well directed and very well acted (main characters, especially Anonyma, played by Nina Hoss, and the Russian major, played by Evgeny Sidikhin, were simply superb). I loved that the Russian and German characters are colored as human and not in simple black and white. It is very unfortunate that this film did not get more attention and a wider distribution! Nina Hoss is brilliant in this difficult role and though the script allows her little to say, she conveys so much through her expressions that words are nearly unnecessary. Likewise, Yevgeni Sidikhin captures the dichotomy of emotional response his character must display, finding just the right balance between the conquering Russian soldier and the compassionate and vulnerable lover. The cinematography captures the devastation not only of the buildings but also of the emotions of both sides of the participating groups and Zbigniew Preisner is responsible for the musical score that adds immeasurably to the drama. This is one of the great German films that took many years of maturing to make. It should be seen.

Pride and Glory 2008,  R)
Pride and Glory
Good movie...
Pride and Glory manages to reach such high depth of entertainment, in which it shows the effectiveness of the good guys and the bad guys. It may seem like another type of mystery drama, but it goes beyond that.
It begins in December, where Ray (Edward Norton), a missing persons police detective, and his older brother Francis (Noah Emmerich) are at a football game where the cops and the firemen are playing against each other. There brother in law Jimmy (Colin Farrell) who is also a cop, is playing also. But after the game, Francis gets a call, about a shoot out. When Francis, Ray and Jimmy arrive at the scene, they find it was a drug bust that went horribly wrong, and four cops are dead. Francis Sr (Jon Voight) a retired cop, suggest that Ray should come in on this case. Ray has a troubled past, but agrees to come on. But during the investigation, what there gonna discover is something not only shocking then the crime itself, but the events that led up to it.
Terrific performances by Voight, Emmerich, Norton, and Farrell. The crime drama is also great. It seemed to slow down a little for some parts. But I liked the direction it was going, it showed the gritty realness of a cops life. It just wasn't focused on the crime part, but also on the emotion part. It was a good film, don't miss it.

Blindness
Good movie...
The movie has its merits. It brings you into the story, making you feel all the emotions felt by the characters. It opens your eyes for things that nobody wants to see. I'm not saying that a disease like this one could happen, but others may come, and that's a reality.
I wondered how the movie would end. And at 2 hours long I had plenty of time to think about it. I could not guess it. Perhaps someone smarter, or who thinks in more obvious terms could have guessed it. But I was surprised by it and it really leaves you thinking. That is, if you were thinking during the movie up to that point.
This movie is dirty to watch and will leave you feeling dirty. In a very adult, intelligent, thought-provoking manner. Anyway I liked it.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2009,  PG)
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Entertaining movie...
Kevin James wrote, produced & acted in this film.... Multi-talented fat-so. Luckily, he succeeds in all the 3 departments. He has written the film along with Nick Bakay neatly, as an actor he's done a brilliant job. And as a producer.... he made a Blockbuster hit, thus earned money, money all the way to the bank.
'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' is entertaining fare with hilarious moments attached to it. The film promises to entertain, not enlighten... and it's true to it's intension. This is no way a fantastic watch, but surely a entertaining, light-hearted & well-made film, which springs up the mood.
I enjoyed it.

Dragonball Evolution
Poor movie...
The beginning looked relatively promising, but i wasn't too impressed. I was thinking that it would just improve as the movie went on, but I was wrong, very wrong. The fight scenes are boring and very short. I was expecting huge explosions. Special effects are OK they're not AMAZING they're just OK .. Acting seems out of place at so many parts ..
I'm not really against the actors and their fitting ..they could've fit if there was a better directing.

Alice in Wonderland 2010,  PG)
Alice in Wonderland
Excellent movie...
It's a movie with humor, action, great costumes, terrific special effects, amazing animal characters and beautiful painted backgrounds. The actors and actresses were cast perfect for their characters. Along with all that is a great story and fantastic music. The animators and set designers were superb artists, and the production feels like you are in a fantastic dream. Tim Burton's vision and Danny Elfman's music is a great duo. Helena Bonham Carter steals the show - she is the evil sister you love to hate. Carter, as the egotistical mad Red Queen sister and Hathaway as the White Queen (gothic white) sister has Wonderland kingdom in the middle of a sibling rivalry. I have to admit I wanted to see "Alice" because of Burton & Carter & Depp collaboration. Add to that, Danny Elfman's score and Alice (Underground) performed by Avril Lavigne, makes the Movie Soundtrack great too. A beautiful film indeed.

Solomon Kane
Good movie...
A film very much in the vein of The Mummy series, but with a more adult and dark side. I found the film full of atmosphere and it drew me in despite the shallow story line, which is to be expected given that it's a hero driven action flick. I thought that the effects, make-up, music, acting, directing, really the whole thing was very solid and it's not just another low budget flick as most of other movies are these days. I would welcome a sequel to this movie, although that might be stretching the storyline a tad too much. Sure, not the masterpiece of the Lord of the Rings but certainly a good hack n slash medieval romp that'll keep you entertained for the duration.
I really enjoyed it.

The Wolfman
Exciting movie...
I loved this movie the plot was moving, all of the actors did an amazing job. The Victorian setting was beautiful, Emily Blunt is always best when dressed in that time period for some reason. Del Toro and Hopkins make a good father son duo, both actors brought life to their characters. It was a very intense film for me personally I've never had my heart skip a beat so many times in the first 5 minutes of a film. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a horror flick with a good plot and yes lots of gore. :) I hope they make a sequel. I like it.
