This is my all time favorite movie, and my favorite movie by Cameron Crow. John Cusack is one of my favorite actors. He won the hearts of thousands of girls in this one, playing Lloyd. Joan Cusack, Lily Taylor, Ione Skye, and John Mahoney were also good in this one. Who could forget the tragic love lost line... " I gave her my heart, and she gave me a pen."
There is no one quite cooler, then Irwin Fletcher. Weather he's portraying Dr. Rosenpenis, Dr. Rosen, John Cocktoston, Arnold Babar,Fletch F. Fletch, or Frieda's boss; he will keep you in stitches the entire time.
This is the classic that made my love affair with vampire movies happen. Kiefer Sutherland, as David and Jason Patrick, as Michael; tugged on many a girl's heart strings in this one. I also really liked Jami Gertz, as Star. She's beautiful, her character had a cool name and wardrobe. Not to mention she does spell her name, the same way I do.
This is by far, my favorite work by Terry Gilliam and the Monty Python crew. In college, I used to get together with friends, watch it, and quote it. I think I've seen this movie about 657 times. I'm pretty sure I can quote the whole script, even if that does up my geek factor.
This is my favorite Coen brother's movie. I thought Frances McDormand and Steve Buscemi were brilliant in this movie. The whole wood chipper scene was a disturbing comic mastermind.
I sat down and watched Stand By Me, for about the five hundred eighty fifth time. For some reason, I never get tired of this film. In my opinion, it is a true gem. Whether it's Gordie, Chris, Teddy, or Vern; everyone can find someone to connect with in this classic tale. This is one of my favorite Stephen King novels, of all time. So, I really appreciated Rob Reiner's brilliance in story telling here. Too often, Stephen King's stories are murdered when they hit the big screen. He is unquestionably one of the most gifted and imaginative writers of our time. His stories are rich, wonderfully clever, and suspenseful. Unfortunately, when taken off the page, they often lose their luster and become jumbled monstrosities. I think we all remember Sleep Walkers... I am partial to Rob Reiner, but the casting of this film was spot on. So many actors that we all know and love, were perfect in this movie. Each one, taking their character, and turning it into something that would stay etched into the hearts of so many, for years to come. There is a definite reason that this film is fairly high up on my favorites list. Enchanting characters, memorable lines, a fantastic oldies soundtrack, and a renowned story; make Stand By Me a vintage masterpiece. "If I could only have one food for the rest of my life? That's easy. Pez. Cherry flavored Pez, no question about it!"
From Dusk Til Dawn is one of those movies I can watch a thousand times. It is not only one of my favorite vampire movies, but a favorite, period. I genuinely love this movie! I am a fan of both Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. I think this is a phenomenal collaboration for them. The story is great, the acting isn't miserable, and the horror aspect isn't over the top cheesy. The casting of this movie is spot on. I love Tarantino as Richie, he does disturbed so convincingly. George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, and Cheech Marin are also stellar. Salma Hayek is fantastic as Santanico Pandemonium. She's beautiful. This film has some excellent dialogue and some well timed comic moments. I remember seeing it for the first time in the theater. I literally burst out laughing a time or two. This film also has a sublime soundtrack. Dark Night by The Blasters and After Dark by Tito and Tarantula remain on my IPod.
200 Cigarettes had a great tag line. " It's 11:59 on New Year's Eve, do you know where your date is?" This is a exceptionally amusing nineties comedy. It is also one that is on my all time favorites list. The story follows a group of twenty somethings on New Year's Eve in 1981. Anyone that holds the 80s dear to their hearts, will enjoy this film. It's a story about friendship, love, and how all the little things we each go through are connected in some way. This movie cast's a ream of famous faces including both Ben and Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Janeane Garofalo, Gaby Hoffmann, Courtney Love, Christina Ricci, Martha Plimpton, Kate Hudson, and Jay Mohr. 200 Cigarettes includes all the 80s nostalgia we know and love. It is complete with the wacky costumes we somehow called fashion, those muenster filled pick up lines we've all heard dozens of times, a fabulous 80s soundtrack, and a cameo by Elvis Costello. It is certainly an entertaining party movie for all to take pleasure in!
Almost Famous is a movie I have great reverence for. It is one of those movies that I can watch again and again, and find something new to love each time. Whether it's the dream of writing for Rolling Stone, meeting a rock band, or just getting out to explore life; everyone can find something to adore about this movie. Since Say Anything is my all time favorite movie, I am partial to the styles of Cameron Crowe. He really hit beyond the ball park, with this one. The story is captivating. The casting of this movie was genius. Frances McDormand is fabulous as Elaine Miller! She's the classic over bearing mother that everyone loves to hate. Kate Hudson was enchanting as Penny. She made you fall in love with "the love of rock ' n ' roll" all over again. Billy Crudup and Jason Lee made Still Water a groovy sensation. Zooey Deschanel is one of my favorite actresses. She showed a great side to the love/hate relationship of siblings, as Anita. Patrick Fugit really did make people fall in love with a boy named William Miller. His story made me laugh and cry. This movie is chalked full of a famous supporting cast. It is brilliant throughout. This movie gets tons of bonus points, for the famous sing along on the bus scene. I don't care if you're not an Elton John fan, you have to appreciate that one. "Tiny Dancer" is a great song that everyone I'm sure has sung in the shower, or another place, at one point and time. I know I have. If you haven't, you should live a little. I doubt even the rubber ducky would mind!
This is the Crypt Keeper's first attempt at going Hollywood. This film is complete with a very Tales From The Crypt inspired introduction, with the famous undead story teller.
The story isn't bad, but it's not stellar. I love watching this movie. I have probably seen it over thirty times. Billy Zane is perfectly cast, as The Collector. There is a good supporting cast in this one, including Jada Pinkett Smith, CCH Pounder, William Sadler, and Thomas Haden Church.
Sure, the story and some of the acting could be better. But, This film stays true to the Crypt style. It is packed full of Cheddar and Colby infused yumminess and side spliting laughs. What more could you ask for in a horror flick?
Muriel's Wedding, is truly a movie that is worth the watch! This is another of those movies that I have seen dozens of times, and seem to have committed to memory. This is an Aussie comedy with flair. The story of a girl named Muriel, who longs to get out of the one horse town, of Porpoise Spit. She dreams of making a different life for herself, and is completely consumed with the idea of getting married. It's all about the journey of finding yourself, the bumps we have to get past in getting there, and the relationships we make along the way. Toni Collette is nothing short of brilliant, as Muriel. She is ungraceful and alluring all at once. Rachel Griffiths is also quite well cast, as Rhonda. She is raw, sometimes vulgar, and amusing. Muriel's Wedding is a charming film, that everyone will fall in love with once they watch it. It's a feel good classic for the ages. You will laugh till your side hurts, and be hunting for the Kleenex box! Besides, who doesn't love ABBA? "Goodbye Porpoise Spit! "
So, I sat down and watched Donnie Darko for about the billionth time tonight. This is truly one of my favorite films. Richard Kelly's twisted vision really gets me. This film is chalked full of famous faces, which makes it so much more of a delight. Drew Barrymore, Noah Wylie, Patrick Swayze, a young Seth Rogan, and Jenna Malone. I find Jake Gyllenhaal to be a very prodigious actor. He is no exception in this film. His portrait of Donnie is so dark and even a tad unnerving, that it is brilliant. Maggie Gyllenhaal is stunningly beautiful, and absolutely adorable. I love her as Elizabeth in this one. Donnie Darko is a truly great film in my opinion. It shows the lengths that some people are willing to go to save those they love. The great human sacrifice. Cellar Door
Let me just say that I love this movie. It was on TV today, and I had to pause every time I went into the room. Ann-Margaret was stunning back then. This is definitely my favorite of hers. Not to mention Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh. Absolutely brilliant cast! I got to play Kim McAfee once, so naturally I can't sit through this movie without singing along!
Being that I have a strange infatuation with vampire movies, I thought this movie was delightful. Frances Ford Coppola did a wonderful job directing this movie. Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder make a great couple, and their parts were well played. Anthony Hopkins was very clever, as Professor Van Helsing. This is one of those movies I can watch again and again. Every time I see this movie, I laugh at the comic elements, and I cry. It really is a beautiful story of how Mina and Dracula's love transcends time.
I ran across this movie today, and had to watch it for the forty seventh time. Stealing Home, is another movie I adore, that is actually on my favorites list. It is an often overlooked 80s movie, that really is a wonderful treat. It's the story of a washed up ball player, Billy Wyatt, played by Mark Harmon. He hasn't been home in ages, when he is called home, to attend to some personal business. As he searches for answers, you are taken for a ride into his past. Along this journey, he remembers what's really important in life, and ends up finding his lost livelihood. It's a great story of love, passion, friendship, loss, and the growing pangs of being a teenager. It reminds you of how those you love have a profound effect on your life, and to always take time to enjoy the little moments that make it all worth while. It stars William McNamara as teenage Billy, admittedly awkward at times and adorably charming. This movie also stars Jodie Foster as Katie, a very bewitching young lady with an abundant lust to explore life. Jonathan Silverman plays teenage Alan Appleby. Alan is the bright and funny geek. This movie earns bonus credit in my book, for casting Harold Ramis as the adult Alan Appleby. This movie has a fun 60s inspired soundtrack, including Baby it's You by the Shirelles and Poison Ivy by The Coasters. Stealing Home is fantastic emotional ride. There are moments to laugh, and moments to cry. It is a must see, for anyone who hasn't sat and watched it.
An American Werewolf In London is, in my opinion, the best werewolf movie out there. I first had this film on VHS and I watched it so much, that I wore the tape out. I am a fan of the 80s horror, but this is a true classic. We all know Jon Landis is a great director. I am a fan of him doing horror. I really enjoyed Innocent Blood. An American Werewolf In London was his best vision of that genre. I love Griffin Dunne as Jack, in this film. The scenes between dead Jack and David are some of my favorites. The effects in this film were top notch for it's time. Rick Baker is brilliant in that aspect. It's no wonder he won the Oscar that year. This film has the perfect mixture of scares, 80s cheese, chills, and comic relief. Jon Landis gets a bravo for this one. "A naked American man stole my balloons. "
Yes the effects are cheesy, and the shots of the shark, aren't that convincing. But the open scene of the girl getting attacked while swimming, still gives me goose bumps. This is one of my all time favorite horror classics.
I thought the original Saw was horror movie genius. Plus, I'll watch anything with Carey Elwes in it. You can't go wrong with a movie that has Wesley in it. Tobin Bell was well cast as John. It got bonus points for the creepy doll, which also happened to be a creepy clown, riding a tricycle.
I liked this sequel, to Hammer's 1958 Dracula, almost better then the original. Sure the acting is chalked full of wholesome cheesy goodness, and the plot has some prominent vacuities. For 1960, The Brides of Dracula is a classic. I am addicted to vampire movies in general. For my money, no one did Dr. Van Helsing better then Peter Cushing. I really like the naive nature that Marrianne's character has in this film. Besides, with a name like Marrianne Dannielle, you know there has to be a high Gorgonzola factor. Yvonne Monlaur is pulchritudinous, and played the role well. If you are a fan of the classic horrors, or a vampire movie buff, you must see 1960's The Brides Of Dracula. Fun fact : For being the sequel to Dracula, Count Dracula is only actually mentioned twice, in the entire film. Once in the Beginning, and once by Dr. Van Helsing.
Wicker Park was a movie that I found very hedonic. Something invariably true about my personality, is I am always looking for a good thrill. I find mysteries and suspense entertaining. This movie's Single White Female mannerisms, is no doubt one of the reasons I found it amusing. I thought Rose Byrne was very good at inveigling the audience in this film. Of course, I loved her performance in Troy, as well. She made the character of Alex very intriguing and slightly grim. I find Josh Hartnett to be exceedingly easy on the eyes. This film got bonus points for casting him as Matthew. Diane Kruger is a stunning beauty. The chemistry the two shared in this film was both heated and convincing. I am a sucker for a love story. I think that is another reason I enjoyed this film. Wicker Park is definitely a thumbs up in my opinion. Everyone takes pleasure in a good plot twist, right? Millions of writers feed off that human addiction.
I really enjoy this movie. It's one of those movies I can watch every time I see it on TV, even though I own the DVD. Sure the crocodiles were obviously fake, but Oliver Platt is great. Betty White is pure comic genius in this movie. Her timing is amazing. My brother is a police officer. Thanks to Ms. White and this movie, he has had the nickname of Officer F*** Meat, since .
The Family man is a movie that I have had a passion for, since the moment I first saw it in the theater. This movie makes me laugh and sob, every time I see it. It's a fabulous story of the things we all take for granted, and the things we think are important. I adore Nicolas Cage in this movie. He really makes Jack Campbell believable. Tea Leoni was well cast, as Kate Reynolds. The chemistry that the two share is very powerful. This is a fantastic movie to watch. It makes you appreciate the things that are really important in life. This is definitely a feel great movie for all!
Swingers is classic cool. What is not to love about this film? I am a fan of Jon Favreau, both as an actor, a director, and a writer. He hit it out of the park with this script. Vince Vaughn is spot on, and Ron Livingston is always great to watch. Every guy wanted to be like Mike, Trent, and Rob when this one came out. It is just a great, genius movie. It also has a killer soundtrack. The Big Bad Voodoo Daddy song, You & Me & The Bottle Make Three is one that stays on my IPod, Permanently. Swingers is a must for every movie lover. It is SO money, baby!
I saw O Brother Where Art Thou? today, for about the millionth time. I have the DVD, yet this a movie I catch myself sitting to watch every time it is on. This is just a fun and scintillating movie. Joel and Ethan Coen knocked one out of the park again, with this one. O Brother Where Art Thou is my second favorite of their works, behind Fargo. You have to appreciate everything about this movie. The story is amusing and entertaining, and it is full of laughs. I love George Clooney and John Turturro in this film, they are excellent. I also love the cameo by John Goodman, he is also a joy to watch, especially in a Coen brother's film such as this, The Big Lebowski, or Raising Arizona. This movie also has an amazing soundtrack. I watched it an hour ago, and I am still singing Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby. All signs of a classic, great movie!
Barbarella is a 1968 classic. This movie is a cult , fantasy, comedy, adventure film. It's about a sexy woman who is sent to the future, to find and stop the torturous ways of the evil Durand - Durand. I adore this movie. Jane Fonda was perfect in this role, she really was stunning back then. What's not to like? Seducing an Angel, women smoking the "essence" of man, an evil whacked out queen, the futuristic love making ways, or the flesh eating demon dolls- that are all the rage with the children of tomorrow... This movie definitely has some bizarre, fabulously twisted moments. Sure, the effects do have a certain Gorgonzola inspired flavor, and some of the acting is less than stellar. But, I believe that is part of this movie's charm. Being how I have a slightly skewed view of things, I have unambiguous feelings towards this film's luminosity!
