Day Watch
This is easily the best film i've seen all year and is now one of my alltime favourites! Everything about this film is amazing - even the subtitles are artistic. The CGI is unbelievably good and Anton Gorodetsky has to be one of the coolest characters ever written. The film carries on the power-struggle between the forces of Light and Dark from 'Night Watch', but also throws in a side you might not expect in the form of some fairly doomed love stories. Zhanna Friske also has one of the best scenes in the film when she gatecrashes a meeting in a very unique way. It's worth watching for that alone.
My only concern is that once Hollywood has finished with all the needless Horror remakes, they're going to start on foreign films, set this in America and rip the guts out of it. That would break my heart...

Wanted
This is the best film that I have seen so far this year and the only one which has made me want to find out when I can buy it on DVD - I loved it!
This is the story of a office drone called Wesley who suddenly finds himself dragged from his everyday life into the world of The Fraternity, a secret group of assassins, in the hunt to find his father's killer. The plot twists and turns so there is no nipping out to the toilet or for ice cream during this or you will miss something important, because EVERYTHING is important. lol.
The CGI is amazing, especially the car scenes, but it never detracts from the film. I had my doubts about James McAvoy being the lead but he is very convincing as the geek turned revenge-monkey.
It is directed by Timur Bekmambetov who also made my favourite films Night Watch and Day Watch so I suppose that might help too, as they have a similar theme of the helpless geek becoming powerful. Seeing the lovely Konstantin Khabensky as The Exterminator made my day as well. Fans of the Dozor films will probably enjoy this very much but I am even more pleased to hear that Timur is heading back to make Twilight Watch in 2009 - I cannot wait!!
