Don't Look Now
When people ask me what my favorite movie is "Don't Look Now" is always the first thing that pops in my head. I remember seeing the end of this as a kid and it always stuck in my mind. Of course I had no context for it (appropriately enough). I haven't really read the book that this is based on but I don't see how this story would work in any other medium than film. This is just as much about our perception and our interpretations of images as it is about ghosts and psychics.

The Man Who Fell to Earth 1976,  R)
The Man Who Fell to Earth
One of my favorite Science Fiction films and David Bowie's best. And it's stars Rip Torn, who has the best name ever. This is second on the "Craig-list-of-must-sees" only to "Don't Look Now".
3
Videodrome 1983,  R)
Videodrome
Any movie where someone hides a gun in a giant vagina in their chest is going to get five stars from me.
4
The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie (Le Charme Discret de la Bourgeoisie) 1972,  PG)
The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie (Le Charme Discret de la Bourgeoisie)
My favorite from Buñuel. The plot sounds incredibly simple. Believe me it's not. Also includes some of the most terrifying nightmare sequences I've ever seen.

For Your Height Only (For Y'ur Height Only)
Jesus Christ. This movie changed my life. Also see "The Impossible Kid".

11
Eraserhead 1977,  R)
12
Blue Velvet 1986,  R)
13
Lost Highway 1997,  R)
Lost Highway
This is the beginning of Lynch's "multiple personality" films. It also is more "pulp-ish" and lurid than most of his films, and that's saying something. This is definitely Lynch doing Film Noir.
14
Paura nella città dei morti viventi (City Of The Living Dead) (The Gates of Hell) 1980,  R)
Paura nella città dei morti viventi (City Of The Living Dead) (The Gates of Hell)
