The Return of the Living Dead 1985, R)
Great movie! Here is an interesting zombie flick brought forth by Dan O'Bannon. The beginning sequence of the movie is simply superb, and gotta love that bell chime and synthesizer that rolls with the opening credit. The overall story plot reflects a group of teens wanting to find a place to hang out and have some fun, so they choose a nearby graveyard while waiting for their friend to get off work. While their friend Freddy is dealing with his own problems at work, they start to notice that things are starting to happen in the graveyard with the 'dead' returning from their graves. The overall movie depicts the groups' efforts in staying alive, with a bit of humor to boot. The group of friends are an interesting sort, and it is topped off with Miguel A. Nunez Jr.'s character "Spider". Great zombie effects and characterization. Good music. Absolutely love The Cramp's 'Surfin Dead.' Definitely worthy! This is definitely the best of all the 'Living Dead' collection. |

Multiplicity 1996, PG-13)
Love it! Hilarious comedy-drama. Here is a movie filled with tons of laughter, and one that always leaves you feeling good. This is definitely my all-time favorite amongst the collection of movies from Michael Keaton. This movie is about Keaton's character "Steve" who is married with children and has a demanding career. Steve tries to juggle the demands of his business, his relationship with his wife, spending time with his children, and heavily committing to the financial responsibilites in their lives. These demands and obligations begin to take a toll on Steve, and thus begins to think when does he ever get a chance to have some time to himself. When he meets a scientist working on a cloning project, he ponders his options and decides to embark on one crazy adventure right after another to help alleviate some of the pressures that he has to deal with on a daily basis and fully embrace his freedom. At a cost, he realizes that these endeavors also create havocs. Andie MacDowell is absolutely great. Definitely worth checking out. |

Nomads 1986, R)
Great movie! This is definitely one of my all time favorites in the supernatural suspense collection. Pierce Brosnan truly shines in this, and the story plot is highly intriguing. Brosnan is a French cultural anthropologist who is studying the various patterns of nomadic people in the world. In the completion of his studies and move to California, he discovers and develops a current interest in a group of outsiders in L.A. He sees resemblance of nomadic traits in the lifestyle patterns of this wily group. The closest connection that he compares it to within his studies is that of the Inuit people. His interest begins to take toll as he is welcomed by the group. As he tries to quietly walk away, it brings further tension from the group and this final realization brings his death. In the last moment of dying, it is a connection with an E.R. nurse that allows us to see the remaining days of what happened to him in memories, nightmares, and haunting thoughts. This movie reflects much of Native American aspects in connection with life, death, and the soul and spirit of a human body. Love this movie. It's quite interesting to see Adam Ant in this movie, especially as the leader of the group of outsiders. Lesley-Anne Down is absolutely fantastic in this movie. Definitely worth seeing! |

Me Without You 2001, R)
This is an all-time favorite movie of mine! It is about a remarkable growth of friendship through time, and beautifully captured through the trials and tribulations of Holly and Marina. The two met as children living next door to each other, and quickly becoming best friends doing just about everything together. The path into adolescence leaves the two dealing with the onset of emotional disasters in various relationships and embarking into new adventures, or lack of. Although Marina is highly self-indulgent and takes Holly's friendship for granted at every opportunity, this leaves Holly sadly living in the shadow of Marina's misadventures and pining for the love of Marina's older brother. Despite having a cruel friend, it is Holly that truly shines. As adults, Holly is fed up with all the mistreatments, past and present, she then realizes it is more than just about self-worthiness and acceptance but about separating herself from Marina altogether in order to have her own life. Great cast! Michelle Williams and Anna Friel are a great combination. Trudie Styler is brilliant. Absolutely love Oliver Milburn in this one! Phenomenal music!! Gotta love Echo & the Bunnymen, Cowboy Junkies, Depeche Mode, The Clash, etc. Definitely worthy. |

Price of Glory 2000, PG-13)
Fantastic movie!! This is an absolute favorite of mine. After the pivotal peak and rise of HBO's original 'Resurrection Blvd," here is a film with similar interests and highlights of a family in boxing. The movie reflects around the Ortega family who lives near the border of Arizona. Arturo was once a young boxer who dreamt of becoming world champion, but his dreams were crushed the day when he lost a bout in a money fight. Several years later, he teaches and trains his three young sons in hopes that boxing will help secure their future financially. As they get older, they soon realize their dreams are getting bigger as well as their interests. The family embarks upon several new stages in their lives, and Arturo realizes that choices and decisions are no longer his to make but that of his sons. Great cast- Jimmy Smits, Clifton Collins, Jon Seda, Maria Del Mar, Louis Mandylor, and Sal Lopez. Great music! Definitely worth seeing. |

They grew up together without their parents, with older sister (Masterson) taking care of them. Delroy Lindo, Karl Geary, and D.B. Sweeney all star in this movie. A must-see!! |

The Mistress of Spices 2005, PG-13)
WOW! This is a great movie! Tilo (Aishwarya Rai) has her gift and traditions, as mistress of spices. Living in America, she has certain rules to follow and it becomes difficult when she falls in love with an American (Dylan McDermott). Like most cultures, traditions usually doesn't reign supreme but its realization that in modern times, especially in America, one lives how one can even if that means changes in certain customs. In the end, it's not so bad when family is all that is important as most of the characters find that out. Love and happiness, and Al Green sure says it best. |

Namastey London 2007, Unrated)
This is a fantastic movie, very romantical! The movie plot is a little slow in starting (with only one good part in the beginning- Arjun giving Jazz away at the church wedding and then walking away), it doesn't pick up until Jazz and her parents travel to India and she thus meets Arjun for the first time. From then on, its fascinating and intriguing. Arjun dancing and singing is so expressive of his emotions and in his happiness, and one cannot help but feel for him throughout the movie. One also cannot help but connect with his plights and hardships, in all the characters- it is Arjun that one really connects with. His sense of humor is truly intriguing and he is such a sweetheart! FANTASTIC LOVE STORY! |

Sunshine 2007, R)
This is an extraordinary movie! Great cast, brilliant director! It is amazing to see Cillian Murphy in a Boyle movie again, as well as Cliff Curtis (one of my favorite actors). This is definitely a movie of interest, especially for Boyle. As post-apocalyptic movies are made, this is definitely one to watch simply because it joins other similar films that primarily focuses on the overall involvement and conditions of the sun as well as other natural disaster in life. |

Once 2007, R)
An excellent film! Truly loved it from beginning to end!! Great music! Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are phenomenal. The storyline is quite interesting as it follows their newfound friendship in writing music together. The budding romantical connection is somewhat dwindling, but it is their friendship that triumphs in the end as each is off to their own. Great movie scene: The Car Test/Beach Scene (as they all go off to test the musical composition in Eamon's car, and head for the beach. It's memorizing for the fact that it reminds me of similar car rides that I enjoy listening to music to. |

Wristcutters - A Love Story 2006, R)
An excellent movie! Great story plot. Absolutely love the direction and intrigue that this movie has centralized around, despite it being a very sensitive subject as a conversation topic. I've always wondered about the other angle of things, and this is definitely a spin. An interesting tale spin, that is. Although the thought of this movie in general being a gray area, this movie actually contained some hilarious moments. |

An interesting movie about family. The relationship between two siblings (Linney and Hoffman) are hilarious and highly touching in this movie, as they are faced with the overall responsibility of taking care of their father. As they ponder the capabilities of their tasks, they search for a nursing home to place their father in. Intriguing story plot! Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman give great performances. Great movie! |

| 92 |
Diary of the Dead 2007, R)
Absolutely outstanding! This has definitely surpassed any of my expectations, and I was amazed to see this latest film by George A. Romero. The overall plot was intriguing. Fantastic conclusion. This is definitely not an installment into other 'Dead' films within the collection simply because the approach is different. This is genius due to the fact that he doesn't stick with basic techniques or format (i.e. story plot) as he has done in previous others. This approach is classical for it ties off some forms of elements of the others, and it gives a form of journalistic viewing for audiences as it is deemed 'diary' as obviously stated. It reflects its own general perfection. Great character interactions. But, in general, one of the best quality that Romero reflects and depicts is social aspects and integrity of the mass. He has clearly not let down any of his true followers in this latest film in that spectrum. (As a true Romero fan, it is sometimes not all about the "zombie-esque" but the social chaos and humanity, or lack thereof) |

| 93 |
Music Within 2007, R)
Amazing! This movie centralizes around one man who works for the benefits and rights of all disabled individuals. It begins with war veterans and helping them get jobs, then eventually to all people. The story plot begins from back in the early 70's to the early 90's. Great cast: Clint Jung, Michael Sheen, and John Livingston. A must-see! |
|
| 94 |
Silk 2007, R)
A fantastic movie! Very touching and enduring. Intriguing story plot. Michael Pitt, Keira Knightley, and Alfred Molina star in this movie. Here's a tale of one precious commodity that helped open trade for Japan, silkworm. This is the story of one man's quest to obtain it. Great transition in musical composition. Definitely a tearjerker! *sigh* A must-see (if you dig romance movies). |
|
| 95 |
Under the Same Moon 2008, PG-13)
Absolutely fantastic!! Great story plot, very touching indeed! This is by far one of the best movies I have seen since "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada". This movie centralizes on the lives of Rosario and her son, who stays with his grandmother in Mexico (while Rosario works illegally in the U.S.). Their struggles to make ends meet, as they are apart also has them thinking about the separation as it is. This movie, like many others, details a vast 'human struggle to survive'. Whereas humanity deems that all should co-exist in nature, we as people should highly think and reflect upon our central priorities for it deems us for who we are, and what we are, thus details our identity. For one, it has me thinking about our own immigration policy and about those who wish to come into, and live within, our country (at any means necessary) and their struggles to live a good life as well. Who are we to deny basic human desires. Phenomenal movie!!! Great cast: Kate del Castillo, Maya Zapata, Eugenio Derbez, America Ferrera, and Jesse Garcia. Definitely a must see! |
|
| 96 |
The Happening 2008, R)
Amazingly good! Intriguing and suspenseful story plot. This is definitely a new venture for M. Night Shyamalan. This film's approach is not thoroughly intertwined like the others, but then again its fascinating to see that one can always be left to assumptions. Clear or not. Its expectations that most depict and reflect, but fail to remember that suspense is the overall drive in a social mass chaos film. This has a bit of the elements tied together, humor and drama with a bit of cold, harsh reality in for the ride (although some would deem that to be on the 'squeamish' side- I thought it was truly amazing). Great cast. A must-see! |

Youth Without Youth 2007, R)
Here's an interesting movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Tim Roth stars. An intriguing story plot that follows a single man (Roth) through life, starting from old age as a professor, scenes from his youth as a student studying the world's languages, and of course, through a most life-altering event that has him pursuing a greater purpose. Great movie! A must-see. |

Silsiilay 2005, Unrated)
Great movie! This is an interesting movie that compiles three individual stories in the lives of three different women who are dealing with relationships, heartaches, and newfound confidence. It details the focus and plight of women, self-liberation and self-reliance, as Shahrukh Khan states in the beginning. This is one of the various movies that ultimately relates to the common issue of women in aspects today. It's quite interesting to see that this is no longer being phased out as a dismissive issue or occurance. Great story plots. Fantastic music. Great cast!! |

As he is distraught over the turmoil of his family, he realizes there is much more to stability and family than what appears to be so. Seven Pounds 2008, PG-13)
One of the best Will Smith movie I have seen so far!! This is truly one movie that has you thinking, even hours after watching the movie. The story plot is truly touching and heart-wrenching, as it is portrayed on a less-illuminated subject as organ donating. The interaction between the characters is beautifully reflected. The depiction of human nature is broadened and remarkably noted. It also bluntly reminds us of a greater common responsiblity of caring, understanding, and accepting, reasons even if reasons were unclear. This is another great choice on Will Smith's selection of roles, especially after 'The Pursuit of Happyness". Great cast- Smith, Rosario Dawson, Michael Ealy, Barry Pepper, Woody Harrelson, and Elpidia Carillo. Defintely worth seeing! |

Alexandria is a young girl who helps her mother and sister pick oranges in the groves outside of town, it is a fall and a broken arm that sends her to the hospital. Together, the two spend their time talking and sharing a story of their own creation. Their bond helps Roy embrace life once again. Fantastic cinematography. Brilliant story plot. Lajja 2001, PG-13)
Here's an interesting insight into the lives and plight of four strong, hard-working women. It remarkably details their stories and the accounts of experience that they each have endured. The common encounters are reflected in a neglected, jilted wife whose desires for love in a good marriage is less-existent; the obedient daughter-bride that is willing to marry to appease her family, and the honor of her father; a young, beautiful woman whose lover believes the lies of others and abruptly leaves her with child; and lastly, the mother whose heart is so wide open that her compassion for her fellow gender is expressed within her every action. Great cast- Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Ajay Devgan, Rekha, Mahima Chaudhry, and Sonali Bendre. Worth seeing! |

It is quite evident that Michael Jackson had worked very hard on the overall direction of various dance performances and musical sequences. The Stoning of Soraya M. 2008, R)
An exceptional depiction of the shrewdness of one's own sly fortitude upon others in the schemes of religious and political views. Obviously, this appears to reflect unkindly on those who follow, and practice, the faith of Islam but one must also remember that these "honor" actions, and killings, are evident elsewhere in other religions as well. The fact that they are committed for deplorable, and heinous, reasons is an actual sickening thought, and that individuals would impose such inhumane actions for whatever selfish gains they seek. |
