beautiful! an honest and sensitive approach to the pain/loss of death in different families. the scenes/close-ups and emotive music lend an air of calm and dignity to an otherwise mobid and taboo subject.

if this is the real scenario of schools for the young in the U.S., then it is a truly sad state of affairs... and i guess there's a lot that the government can do to make it better for the majority, at least :) It also exposes the systemic problem inherent in the american society...

Hansamu sûtsu (The Handsome Suit) 2008,  Unrated)
Hansamu sûtsu (The Handsome Suit)
This film is not just skin-deep. I thought it brought out 2 points very well:
1) Beauty includes suitable/matching vocal chords, classy accent, styling, lifestyle, cool friends/associations... and more importantly,
2) I wonder how many good-lookers out there want an off-suit! Life can be rather empty/sad if no one's interested in the (real) person underneath.

Other than these, the film's simply hilarious. We were just laughing and laughing and laughing!!! :D

Island Etude (Lian xi qu)
this movie is making me feel the travel bug again! what lovely views Taiwan offers!! i loved how easy it was for everyone to simply come along on the male lead's journey around the coast :) There were no dominant, in-your-face type figures that almost every movie tries to instill... only very friendly/helpful local folks. Who can beat that charm?
