Another gem from the Coen brothers. Every character is like a crudely drawn caricature yet all have well defined boundaries. It's actually a very beautiful movie to watch with a lot of attention paid to lighting, colours and textures. Then again what else would you expect?

There are certainly not enough movies like this. Every actor seems to dig deep, very deep, to bring their characters into existence, as if their own lives were hanging in the balance. In the end I am sure I know them and share their pains and hardship. Alex Rice is devastating, as is the rest of the cast. Pow! Right in the kisser.

I must have watched it ten times with the same level of enjoyment. Movies like this bravely walk a very fine line between inspired movie magic and the afterschool special. Count on Sandra Oh's determination to lift the moment as it becomes something familiar. Valerie Tian's sets a clever trap. You just have to like her. Too promising. Sublimely directed.

What an absolutely amazing film this is. I was expecting an all out glam-fest but this film is surprisingly sober and intimate. Extravagant at times, but only when it needs to be. I was only slightly aware of the glam scene as the '70, for me, were moslty about folk or prog rock. One scene shows a christmas party in 1969 and I was stunned to see that all this was happening when, just a few weeks prior, the hippie movement passed on with the Stones concert at Altamont. Leave your expectations at the door indeed. Thanks to my flixster-friend Blondie for the heads up.

Disinterest mistaken for kindness. Frustration for lust. The utter contempt for all things given and the inebriating power of rejection. Ebullient only for things long lost. This movie picks up where "In the mood for love" left off. It is remarkable in every way imaginable. Best viewed with a Nottage Hill Hardys cabernet/shiraz to soften the blow. Carnivorous.
