The 'Burbs 1989,  PG)
The 'Burbs
My favorite movie. The first movie I ever bought on VHS, I've seen it an endless amount of times. The characters are fantastic and believable, the music silly and comical, the slapstick perfect. And growing up in a cul-de-sac made it even better for me.

Boogie Nights 1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
One of my favorites, a dark epic comedy/drama has an ensemble of knockout performances, fantastic cinematography and a great vibe. Dirk Diggler's karate moves make me laugh everytime, as does the intro to Brock Landers. The tension filled drug deal scene with Alfred Molina and "Jesse's Girl" playing on his mix tape remains my favorite. A sleazy and gritty, yet touching and emotional masterpiece.
3
Halloween 1978,  R)
Halloween
Outstanding use of setting and music to create an unforgettable atmosphere for this classic horror film. Unsettling and full of tension, the "Shape" represents the presence of evil that could be lurking anywhere, even in a pleasant small town. Scary without being obnoxiously violent or gory.
4
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
One of my favorite films to read theories on. An absolute mindfuck from beginning to end. Visually beautiful, horrifying, funny, and sad all at the same time. Naomi Watts gives a knockout performance in it.
5
Rushmore 1998,  R)
Rushmore
Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray are fantastic in this movie. Their characters are both hilarious and sad, and they play off of each other brilliantly. Great soundtrack, fun supporting characters, and awesome plays, Rushmore is a real gem.
