39
Boogie Nights 1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
This is the kind of movie that makes you laugh when you shouldn't. Why is it my favorite one? who doesn't like porn... furthermore, it is a smart recollection of ultra-sharp charachters. All in an entertaining, fluid, emotionally charged story.

Perhaps its more particular characteristic is the lack of a "voice off" narrative; that helps the whole story to not fall in common places.

My favorite part is the drug run at the arab guy's place - that's what I call mixed emotions.

The Departed 2006,  R)

Reservoir Dogs 1992,  R)

The Godfather 1972,  R)
The Godfather
Perfection could not quite describe it. While most productions get to be bad, mediocre, or simply acceptable; very few reach to be labeled as merely 'good', all because you find a couple elements you like. The Godfather is a major production where all elements uncannily seem to have come together in a supernatural way, delivering a tremendous, almost infinite account of said elements. Every film lover gets their flavor here.

On one hand, it has a great original story, with a very good adaptation for the film. You get to see a bunch of unchallengeable masculine characters pragmatically dealing with immense moral dilemmas, while the old man is losing his power, and a new king is crowned. On the other hand, a brilliant direction, balancing the practical objective with the artistic, ever present artistic sense. Then comes an outstanding cast, featuring both old legends and new stars at that time, as well as Al Pacino's big star debut.
