The gold standard of satire - written by the master, directed by a brilliant artist, and acted by the finest cast of its day. A perfect, prescient movie.
The Cohen brothers are wonderful filmmakers - auteurs to the bone. No one captures idiosyncratic localities carrying wacky stories about grand themes of redemption, love, and loyalty like they do.
This is the reason James Cameron can do whatever he wants. A perfect movie - a relentless chase against a terrifying, unbeatable enemy, and a powerful female protagonist who not only faces her worst fears, but finds that her female instincts will both save her and find a familiar. This is the movie Cameron was born to make!
A brilliant piece of satire that manages to completely entertain, skewer its target with pitch-perfect tone, and still respect the hell out of the very people its mocking. Awesome, hilarious movie.
One of my favorite movies of all time - silly and over the top at every turn and Kurt Russell shows that just because you're goofy and not ripped doesn't mean you can't be an action star. I wish John Carpenter would make these kinds of movies again, but then, age changes everyone. Where's the next John Carpenter?
Indie filmmaking at its absolute best. A wild ride by a director who has a passion for film, a crew willing to go all the way, and a star who oozes charisma out of every latex and gore splattered scene. The dentist investors of the midwest put this baby on the map and recouped every worthwhile penny.
Finally, a film that shatters the long held myth that movies about magic are impossible. A great story well told, with solid acting and a great script. It's only major flaw is the flubbed ending - Nolan should have known better than to cut away too soon.
Finally, a great Batman film - though the fight scenes were so poorly edited you couldn't tell what was going on. Now if only someone would kill Akiva Goldsman for crimes against cinema (and Batman), all will be right with the world.
It seems corny now, but when Die Hard came out it was a monster! Quotable lines, a great villain, and a hero who just can't get a break. Still a fun popcorn muncher.
