Imitation of Life
One of my cheesy favorites!! I love this movie - I know how it is going to end but when Sandra Kohner drapes herself over her mama's casket - well I lost it every time.

Now, Voyager
Love the 'ugly duckling..gets pretty..falls in love' kind of movies. So romantic and sweet. I never get tired of seeing this movie!!

Gone With the Wind
What can I say - a classic in every way. Famous quotes:
Butterfly McQueen says 'I dont know nothin about no birthin' --- I am right with her. When Rhett says 'frankly my dea I dont give a damn..' and when Scarlett says ' I dont have to think about that today - I'll think about it tomorrow..' well it tugs at my heart.
4
Chinatown 1974,  R)
Chinatown
This is such a good movie in every way. John Huston plays pure melevolent evil here. Nicholson is wonderful as the rakish Giddes - even Dunaway is beautiful and vulnerable. And the music that plays thruout the movie is so haunting that when I hear it today it puts me right back in the movie. Chinatown was made in the seventies but in my opinion could easily fall into the NOIR catagory.

Not a great fan of Jane Fonda's but doggone it she can act. The scene where she is listening to a tape of her friend while her friend is being tortured by the perpetrator - well it is so powerful. One of her finest performances.

Magnificent cinema. Mel Gibson really a good actor - such a wonderful, sweet, tragic love story. Henry Wallace' speech at the battle was truly powerful. Mel with blue paint covering his face - it could have been laughable but it was great!!!

This was a tour de force for Kenneth Brannagh. He starred in and directed and wrote. I am pretty good with mysteries but this had me fooled until the very end. Great acting, great cinematography and wonderful twists and turns - it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Oh yeah ---- its in black & white!!!

Gregory Peck deserved the Oscar for this movie. Not a sound or dry eye in the house when the scene with Peck packing his briefcase after losing his case and the black spectators (up on the balcony - they werent allowed to sit downstairs!!) were all looking at him. Peck daughter was with them - still leaning on the rail. Her friend said as Peck walked out of the room - "stand up Scout - your father is passing." Well I have a lump in my throat just writing those powerful words.

Like Water for Chocolate (Como Agua para Chocolate)
What a lovely movie - so moving, tragic and romantic at the same time. Apparently at the turn of the century - Mexican tradition dictates the oldest daughter must stay home and take care of the mother until she dies. She can never marry. The protagonist of the movie is a wonderful cook and this is how she gets thru these harsh times. Very good!!

By now you probably have guessed that I am a Hitchcock fan. And this is one of his greatest achievements - in my opinion. Kim Novak was never lovlier. And James Stewart was great. I find it interesting that he was in his sixties when he made this movie. That is fascinating because the movie really revolves around his all consuming love for Madeline.

Schindler's List
Wonderful movie but hard to watch!! Great performances from Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and so many more. Spielberg is a genius. The movie all in black & white except the little girl trying to escape the horrors of the camp in her red coat. Also a searing scene - where the Americans have come to resue the camp survivors and not knowing this - runs into a latrine to try to hide. Heartbreaking!!! But to me the most moving scene in the movie was when Spielberg used the surviving families of the survivors to pay their respects to Schindler by placing stones on his tombstone. An old Jewish tradition. Superb!!!
