Directed by: Frank Darabont Starring: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman,
The Review:
What else to say? Best movie ever. Can't see why this movie didn't receive any of those prestigious statue. Absolutely better than Forrest Gump in overall.
Frank Darabount, he deserved that Oscar, well even though Zemeckis also deserved (and he got it), I consider it as tie. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were absolutely beyond normal.
Great adapted screenplay, unfortunately lost to Forrest Gump. A nice score too. And again, the best of it, the story, thanks to Stephen King.
Best Moment: That rain scene.
"Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." ~Any Dufresne~
First, just few days before I watched this movie, I've watched a horrible movie (just check my Meet Dave's review) and I got my mood back in town. This movie was amazing! Two hours of dazzling moments. One of greatest movie in my life and it was so mind-blowing!
Edward Norton is a top class actor, and so is Brad Pitt. Both of them showed a quality acting in this movie. Both of them was know what were they doing and the audience didn't waste their time watching them both. Both of them was the central character and they were the center of the attention (which mean the rest of the cast except Helena was fringes cast or character). Helena played well here, and as we know that she's a quality actress. And I felt that Edward Norton narrated the movie well.
This movie has a twist (that made this movie a masterpiece). Even tough I've known the twist already (which I couldn't tell here), still this movie was enjoyable and maybe if I didn't knew the twist, I would feel that this movie was indescribable. As the story goes by, you would understand all points of the movie after around 3/4 of the movie and you'll find yourself watching a brilliant artwork.
Almost forgot, quotes from this movie were good, well most of them (yes, but not Tyler's quote that said something bad about God, I hate the fact that he said that). And other thing, did you know that Ed's character's name didn't actually revealed? Even tough later he was assumed as .... sorry couldn't tell you (Imdb.com wrote him as a Narrator.)
For (some) of my last words, if anyone (who read this review) had similar problem like Edward Norton's character's problem, you shouldn't try something like fight club anywhere! And maybe if peoples often tell you that you often talk to yourself, you have to be careful, you wouldn't like an imaginary friends like someone. (Hey careful, It's the movie's clue!)
Directed By: Roman Polanski Starring: Adrien Brody, Frank Lipman, Emillia Fox, Thomas Kretschmann, etc.
My Review:
Amazing! That's how I describe this movie in one simple word. Oh yes, it was adapted from Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Composer who survived the holocaust or his survival during the world war II.
It's Roman Polanski best movie so far, no wonder he received an Oscar from this movie. Oh for the cast, I think I watch another one-man show. Adrien Brody simply outstanding! His best performance which gave him an Oscar. The others are just a fringe-unimportant character (although some of them are important).
Move to others. The screenplay was a good one, a very good adaptation from the book (Wladyslaw Szpilman's autobiography). It has a nice score, a nice cinematography, and good set. 5 Stars, I gave it because of it's strong story. This movie showed what was happened when the Nazy reign almost perfect, how the Jew discriminated, the Jew's camp, etc. Well, I think that's enough.
Yeah, that's enough. After I watched the movie, I was agree with the tag-line, saying that 'Music was his passion. Survival was his masterpiece'.
Memorable Moment:
Adrien Brody as Wladyslaw Szpilman played shortened Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor p, Op. 23 in front of Captain of the regular German army, Hosenveld passionately.
Memorable Quotes:
Captain Wilm Hosenfeld: When It's over, what'll you do? Wladyslaw Szpilman: I'll play again on Polish Radio. Captain Wilm Hosenfeld: What is your name? So I can listen for you. Wladyslaw Szpilman: My name is Szpilman. Captain Wilm Hosenfeld: Spielmann? That is a good name, for a pianist.
Directed By: Frank Darabont Starring: Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Dunkan, David Morse, Barry Pepper, etc.
My Review:
First of all, I would to say thank you to one of my best friend for lending me this masterpiece. Next I would to say thank you to Frank Darabont and Tom Hanks (even though I know they wouldn't hear my utterance) and also the other cast for making such a memorable movie like this. After I had the DVD on my hand, I was impressed already with it's tag line and I believe this movie won't disappoint me. And it is. I found out that three hours I spent watching this movie didn't waste your time at all (like watching LOTR:Return Of the King) !
Frank Darabont create another masterpiece after produced Shawsanks Redemption in 1994. Picking Tom Hanks as the main star of the movie probably one of Frank's best choice he ever made. Tom Hanks, who's on earth doubt his quality acting? Just like Spielberg's name, there's at least guarantee for every movie that has Tom Hank s's name on it. Starring as Paul Edgecomb, Tom Hanks showed to us how good his performance was (even though it wasn't his best). First, I thought that Tom Hanks would do a one man show in this movie but I was wrong. The other cast like Michael Clarke Dunkan and David Morse could match him so we won't see great interval between them. Sam Rockwell and Doug Hutchinson successfully played as jerks in this movie, and I appreciate it.
The score, it was an exception, I barely hear the score playing in the movie but it's fine I guess, at least didn't put me asleep. The story, created by Stephen King, it was soo good, so emotional, and a little bit heart-melting in the end. The set, decoration and also the costumes, I wouldn't blab much about it for it wasn't special at all.
That's all about the Green Mile. For some of my last words, I would to say thanks (again) to my lovely best-friend and Frank Darabont and also Tom Hanks for bringing this to my screen.
Pal Edgecomb didn't believe in miracles untill the day he met one. Well, I guess we have to believe.
Memorable Moment:
The Moment when John Coffey entered the room where he's going to be executed, his conversation with the guards there.
Memorable Quotes (the best one):
Paul Edgecomb: What do you want me to do John? I'll do it. You want me to let you walk out of here and see how far you get? John Coffey: Now why would you want to do a foolish thing like that? Paul Edgecomb: When I die and I stand before God awaiting judgment and he asks me why I let one of HIS miracles die, what am I gonna say, that it was my job? John Coffey: You tell God the Father it was kindness you done.
Lots of movie in this summer (2008). Some of them were good (while others were miserable). And starting 18 of July, we could saw the best 2008's summer movie. Almost flawless and perfect. This was the best super-hero movie I ever seen (and maybe the best superhero movie ever produced). This movie deserved more than 5 stars. It deserved 6 or even 7! We saw some of superheros movie this summer (2008), but they're no match for The Dark Knight and so far, the only superhero movie that able to reach The Dark Knight's level was Iron Man.
As one of the most expected movie in 2008, this movie met our expectation not like Spiderman 3 which released last summer. Why The Dark Knight didn't fail like the Spiderman 3? At least, there two reason to explain this. First, they didn't do the same mistake like the Columbia Pictures did in Spiderman3. They exposed Venom too much and Venom didn't met the audience's expectation and so the rest of the villain. But here, in this movie, the Joker was the only villain exposed, and we saw one of the best villain in superhero movie's history. Two Face has perfect portion in this movie, even tough we saw Two Face in short durations. Second, this movie has no miscast at all and their cast was top class actors/actress. So this movie was movie full of stars.
As I mentioned before, no miscast. As we know, Christian Bale reprise his role again as the Dark Knight but, even tough he was the main character, Heath Ledger (R.I.P) as the Joker stole all of our attention. This was his best performance (beside of his performance in Brokeback Mountain). Heath Ledger bring us a totally different Joker. His Joker was more insane than Jack Nicholson's (his Joker look like a clown than a bad guy). Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, I was satisfied with his performance, his performance was very convincing. The Two Face was creepier than Tommy Lee Joneses. Fortunately, we wouldn't saw Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes again and (thankfully) her role would be filled by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maggie was the puzzle piece to complete this movie. She was lot lot better than Katie Holmes (I believe Katie Holmes would made my rating down to 4). The supporting character were filled with top class actors such as Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine. Don't forget Cillian Murphy even tough we saw him in a flash (I mean in a very short duration). About the director, Chris Nolan is a good director, best for making movie's emotion comes alive and he successfully surpass his previous Batman series. A
So far, in my opinion, the Dark Knight was the best of Batman's franchise ever. The Dark Knight was helped with a great score (of course, it's Hans Zimmer). The story was very good, I enjoyed every seconds from this movie.
You know what? I could said that the Dark Knight was better than Iron Man even tough Iron Man provide more action and better special effects. Heath Ledger's performance defeated all of Iron Man's actions. And not just Heath Ledger, this movie's emotion was very strong. And this movie has twist that would shocked the audience.
After all, I saw this movie was one of the last (and one of the best) gift from Heath Ledger. My bow for him. I was so sad to face the truth that we wouldn't see him again. He deserved an Oscar for his role as the Joker. Oh, please, give him an Oscar! As the last testimonial for him.
Directed By: Quentin Tarantino Starring: John Travolta, Samuel L.Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken, Quentin Tarantino, Tim Roth.
Tell me Quentin, Quentin, Quentin. A brilliant story of peoples who solve their own problem using their own way. Full of "fuck"s and "shit"s. Well, that's the color of the movie. It's always a pleasure, watching lots of star stars in one shot.
The main character, Vega and Jules, played by Travolta and Samuel L.Jackson, Vincent's tap dance and Jules 'Bible Verse' is memorable (to me) because of them. Bruce Willis played well in this movie, so did Uma Thurman even though their character weren't as special or as memorable as Jackson's and Travolta's character but they played well. Stars as supporting actors are Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Tim Roth, and also our eccentric director, Quentin Tarantino!
What made this movie brilliant? I'll recount in. First is it's unique story. Second is the cast, it's damn good pick of cast. Third, maybe it's slapstick humor. Fourth? It's made by Quentin Tarantino.
The story was divided into four different story but linked unto another. The score was Tarantino's movie's usual score style, hearing the score will convince us that this movie was made by Quentin Tarantino. Owh, as addition, I love lots of quotes from this movie, such as the uncomfortable silence and so on...
We need a genius to make something good, but sometimes, we need something eccentric in order to make something extra-ordinary and Quentin Tarantino is the eccentric we need to see something extra-ordinary.
Memorable Moment:
Vincent and Mia's unusual dance in the Jack Rabbit Slim's..
Vincent killed Marvin accidentally in their car while Vincent ask his opinion about miracle.
Memorable Quotes:
Mia: Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullshit in order to feel comfortable? Vincent: I dunno. But it's a good question. Mia: That's when you found somebody really special, when you can just shut the fuck up for a minute and comfortably share a silence. Vincent: I don't think I'm quite there yet, but don't feel bad,. We just met each other. Mia: I tell you what. I'm going to the bathroom and powder my nose. You sit here think over something to say.
I love Disney (classic), yes, I always do. 90's was the (last) decade when Disney Classic ruled the animation. They always served us with brilliant character, flawless story, and wonderful songs.
Usually I blab about the cast here, but for Disney Classic, I'm gonna blab about the character. Disney successfully formed each character's character.
This movie could be considered as musical and also a colossal. The Lion King is very glorious. I count it as Disney's best animation ever made. The story is similar with Shakespeare's Hamlet. Oh, this movie has bunch of marvelous songs. Those songs are 'Can You Feel the Love tonight' and 'Circle of life' which were wonderful and glorious while the other songs such as 'I Just Can't Wait To be King' are entertaining.
This Lion King is the best (classic) animation ever made, above all other classic animation. Sadly, Disney has confirmed that they'll never make a classic animation again, I'm gonna miss their famous classic animation. Well, that's the circle of life.
I was sitting at the cinema, waiting to see some movie, then I saw a trailer. That trailer was Pan's Labyrinth. I thought that this movie was a good one, and thankfully I was right. And I found out that this movie was more than good, it was one of the most unique movie I ever saw. Such a wonderful artwork from Guilermo del Toro.
I consider it as one of Guilermo's best movie he ever made, and it's in Spanish! Guilermo del Toro made this movie interesting and it was so imaginative (for it was an original story, not adapted from anything such as books nor fable).
I think I've done with Guilermo, now for the cast. Frankly, I barely recognize any of the cast's name (I knew Doug Jones only) because this movie's cast mostly from Spain. For the leading actress, we had Ivana Baquero. What she has done here simply brilliant for an actress at her ages (she was 11 when this movie produced), and in my opinion, she was very talented, much much better than 2 Pevensies cast from Narnia and her acting quality (in this movie) maybe at the same level with Annasophia Robb or Dakota Faning. Doug Jones, the only actor I knew played the faun well, for he was best for a role that didn't need his face (anyone didn't understand what I meant?). Sergi Lopez and Meribel Verdu's performance should be cherished for they played a role that were against their original type.
That's enough for the cast, now for the rest of the movie's package. The score was simply brilliant but not good enough to receive an Oscar (just nominated for Oscar's Best Original Score). The makeup? I guess you don't have to ask about it. It was awesome (won Oscar in this category). The art direction and it's decoration simply led this movie to receive it's other statue. This movie also receive another statue for it's cinematography (to be honest, I didn't knew anything about cinematography, so I won't blab anything here). The story itself was a good one, and for me it's unguessable (shocked me a bit though).
To close my review, I'll share my thought a bit. First I thought that Pan was the creature name, but the real name of the creature is Faun, well it's shocked me a bit. And watching this movie wasn't wasting your time at all. That's all. And Guilermo del Toro left behind small traces of his time on Earth, visible only to those who know where to look.
WALL-E.......Another story made by Disney Pixar. Another icon made by them. Another masterpiece released in 2008. From lots of animation I've seen, this was one of the best (or even the best in non-cartoon category). I was desperately want to see this movie, it was released 1 and a half month after the US release date in my country.
Alright, this year (2008), I've seen another 2 animated movies (Horton and Kungfu Panda), first I thought they had good qualities already, but after I saw WALL-E, I could say that those movies simply no match for our poor little robot. Compared to Kungfu Panda, I said that Kungfu Panda would be the winner of this year's animation competition, but I was wrong. I underestimate this movie and we all know that I was wrong. Frankly, if Flixster could rate more than 5, I would give 6 (and a half maybe) for this movie.
You don't need good actors/actresses. This movie didn't supported with top class cast (just Sigourney Weaver), because we'll hear a few dialogs here. After all did WALL-E need top class cast?
Then what makes this movie a masterpiece? I couldn't give much reason for this (Disney's magic maybe?), but the most reason that make sense is it's story. It has a wonderful story, typical of Disney's animated (classic) movies. For addition, the audience served with a short animation that was very enjoyable and has a good quality. Presto, the film's name was simple but very entertaining. Beside that, the animation itself simply outstanding. They successfully brought the emotion of our little robot alive. Okay, back to the story, the story was powerful enough to make the audience laugh, amazed, and also cried.
Like the other Disney Pixar's movies, this movie also provided with good score and also good songs featured in the movie. The screenplay, should I mention it again? Disney Pixar always make movies with great original screenplay nowadays.
We came to the end of my review, I don't know how to close it. But, I guess I wanna say that this movie was one of the best box office movie in 2008 (number 2, The Dark Knight was the best so far). I guess we all know who will receive the Oscar for Best Animated Feature next year. You don't need mouth, you don't need a nose, you get a whole personality just from the eyes.
Like what it said, Love Actually is the ultimate romantic comedy!! Each actor/actress show what they've got in this movie.. Well, this movie, I considered it as one of the best Romantic movie i ever saw.. Each of them show their capability in their dialogs (I really love British accent!!!) A perfect one..
Directed By: Riri Riza Starring: Cut Mini Theo, Tora Sudiro, Slamet Rahardjo, Mathias Muchus, Rieke Dyah Pitaloka, Lukman Sardi
My Review:
Another adaptation. This time from my own land. If the novel is Indonesia's most powerful book, then the movie is Indonesia's most powerful movie (at least in 2008). Oh yeah, the novel itself, is inspired by Andrea Hirata's (the author) childhood's life. So , it could be considered as semi-biopic. I expect something spectacular from this movie (for I've read the book, and I love it), and I saw a masterpiece!
Beside the original Belitong kids for Laskar Pelangi, this movie filled with Indonesia's most talented stars such as Tora Sudiro etc. I'm not in the mood of talking about the cast, but, all I can say about the cast is, the choice of picking Belitong's original kids is a perfect choice, because they know how to be a Belitongers.
A book describe about something in maybe around hundred words, but one movie scene could describe or represent thousands of that words. Riri Riza successfully did that. She brought the scene beautifully, didn't miss the book's important details, and also, she brought Belitong's amazing scenery to the screen perfectly.
The score and and the soundtracks, is good. The screenplay, is a nice one. The plot is a little bit different with the original novel, but it didn't damaged the movie's spectacular point. One other thing, there's some characters we wouldn't found in the original novel, but that's fine. Back to the plot, this movie has three main point, I mean three focuses, Ikal's story, Mahar's and Lintang's. I pick Lintang's as the best, the best of all. I almost cried watching his story.
Alright, this is the end of Indonesia's best picture's review. I will conclude this movie. It's fun, light, heartwarming, and of course, amazing. Laskar Pelangi deserve a nomination in Oscar/Academy award, as Best Foreign Picture, at least a nomination. If Denias almost picked, this movie must.
Memorable scene:
Lintang teach his friends, replacing Ms.Muslimah, their teacher who didn't come to teach them, for she's still mourning as a result of someone's death.
Laskar Pelangi's primitive dance in 17th of August's carnival.
Most Inspiring Quotes:
Mr Harfan: All of you need bravery (or courage), strong will, and never want to give up to face any kind of challenge!
Ikal: Lintaaaaaaaaaaang!
Lintang: We must have a dream, and in this school, our journey begin. We have to keep studying in school!
Directed by: Ron Howard Starring: Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, Paul Giamatti, Craig Bierko
My Review:
I though it was more than good, but it's just good. Oh yeah, it's another movie about boxing, maybe it isn't as good as Million Dollar Baby or Rocky Balboa, or Ragging Bull, but still a nice one. One thing, why Cinderella Man? Now I understand why.
Ah ya, the cast, well, Ron Howard pick nice actors and actress, while he done his job well. First, Russel Crowe, nice act from the 2-times-Oscar winner. Renee Zellweger did a nice act too, while Paul Giamatti did a quite outstanding job here (giving him his first Oscar-Nomination).
Okay, I've just realize that this movie is a biopic (a little bit shame on me huh?). Well, the script, I mean the story is quite predictable but packed in a right way. The score, composed by Thomas Newman, hit me quite hard, and a little bit juicy. Oh yeah, in my opinion, this movie describe the condition of the Great Depression well.
Tik-tik-tik, timel is gonna strike to the midnight, and Cinderella Man's review need to be finished. Well, this movie has a nice hook. And it's quite inspirational.
Memorable Moments:
Mae came to the church and shocked, because the church is filled by people who prayed for Jim.
The silent crowd at Madison Square Garden as Jim walk to the ring.
Memorable Quote:
Joe: Come on, hurry up. Let's get lead out here. [Jim's stomach growling] Joe: What the hell was that? Jim: They ran out of soup on the line. Joe: Ran out of soup on the line? How the hell are you suppose to fight on an empty stomach?
Will's really a A class actor!!! This movie show us a lot of things, and tell us to never give up, no matter what... Based on true story, Will done really well..Jaden show good capability as Little Chris...Very heart-melting,dramatic, and what else..A very good movie..
Again, this was another good musical movie and I love it. We saw lots of musical scene in this movie. It was a little bit different with other musical movie (that I've watched) such as Once or August Rush. For me, the best words to describe this movie's genre was dark musical. It was an overcast musical artwork. And again combination of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp created a wonderful artwork. Tim Burton was genius! Why did I said that? Because he made this movie as a musical, could you imagine this movie as a usual movie? If I were you, I will be goddamn bored! But with the touch of music, this movie became alive. Johnny Depp, only a fool would say that Johnny wasn't a great actor. We've seen him enough starred as an eccentric character such as Edward and Jack Sparrow, and as far as we know, he was best for roles like these. Next we're gonna talk about Helena Bonham Carter. Tim Burton's girl did a very good job here, and create an unique chemistry with Johnny. For the villain (well , all of the main cast was villain though), Alan Rickman, from what I saw, his acting was similar with his role as Severus Snape in Harry Potter's series. The others was enough to support those main cast and made this movie a masterpiece. The plot itself was a good one, served with good choreography. This movie itself dominated with black and white color which made this movie's atmosphere stronger. And the movie's costume was a good one (and won an Oscar for best costume). To finish this review, I just wanna say (again) that this movie was an unique masterpiece. And after watching this movie I (and maybe some of us) will choose barber shop carefully. I'm afraid if we choose the wrong barber shop, we will meet a barber like Sweeney Todd. Well, I'm just kidding.
Well, this movie was one of the best musical movie I ever seen! In my opinion, the songs from this movie will make "High School Musical"s songs like a baby's cry and about their performance? It'll make them a bunch of crazy people's dancing! Okay, I think a really good acting isn't necessary in this movie.Well as you know, both Glen and Marketa are singers, so in my opinion they done well for non-actor/actress's act. But why I didn't give this movie 5 stars? I think it's because this movie's quality of taking their picture's wasn't good enough, sometimes you'll feel that you're watching a movie made by a handycam. But fortunately, this movie's music done really well to cover that mistake. After all, this was a low-budget movie, so I understand that little mistake. Oh, about the song, Falling Slowly, I'm quite understand why this song won an Oscar, the moment when this song sung for the second time is good, but I think Oscar should go to So Close from Enchanted. After all, this movie is the best low-budget movie I ever watch. The soundtrack? No need to ask. The movie? Two thumbs up.
It's a good movie for me..Has very unique idea, and I'm surprised thaht Will Ferrel done well in a non-comedy movie.. Emma Thompson and Dustin support the main character, and they done it!! The twist is really good, and this movie show good psychological problem form Will's character..Most of all, it;s very good movie..
From the trilogy of POTC, i considered it as the best... The comedy is right on time, very fresh, Depp and Keira did well in this movie.. Some will say Bloom is done not good enough for this movie, but I think he's okay.. The story is good, the duration is perfectly fit, and about the ending.. It makes you want to see the Third one..
Well, let see...This Disney's movie was good!! And creative, this movie mixed some old-traditional flavor Disney's movie.. Amy Adams did well here, Patrick? Okay i think.. This movie was served with an excellent musical performance from the cast..Beside from the cast, Jon McLaughlin played a very beautiful song here..Oh, and about the movie, it has a good story and this movie has a good climax (to summarize, this movie has a good plot)..Some of the things we want ,won't end happily ever after..But in Disney's movie? Everything will..!
Forgot to rate this one. This movie was a hard one. I have to concentrate in order to understand this movie. This movie wanted us to watch every single scene. If you miss one, maybe you'll get lost. Maybe that's the reason why this movie's gross not good. Well, the story has strength, and in my opinion Clive Owen wass awesome here. He took all of my attention! He showed some emotion and he was really cool here. Moore didn't do much here. The pregnant one did quite well, decent act. Almost forgot Michael Caine. He's good, well he represent his role here well and I believe he was. The script? A good one.Well, not much to say. For me, this movie was one of the main course.
Directed by: Gus Van Sant Starring: Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver, Casey Affleck, Stellan Skarsgård.
My Review:
Gosh, I didn't make wrong choice, picking this movie when I was at store several days before I made this review. This movie is f*ckin good! Well, this movie can be considered as the start of Matt Damon (and Ben Affleck) as Hollywood top stars.
The cast, full of well known names (nowadays). First, the leading actor, Matt Damon, he played Will Hunting character well, more than good but still, not spectacular (even with the funny 90's hair-style). Robin William, quite outstanding, made him receive an Oscar for his performance. Ben Affleck, not much I could say about him, his performance? Mid-Level performance. Stellan Skarsgård, decent performance from the man who latter known as Boot-strap Bill Turner from POTC. Minnie, I thought they should pick actress with better face, compared to her.
Okay, enough for the cast. Now, the central point of this movie's masterpiece, it's screenplay or the story. The screenplay or the story is a masterpiece, smart, creative, and quite unpredictable. The score, is nice, composed by Danny Elfman, and the cinematography (gosh, I mention this in every review I made lately) is a nice one.
Well, it's over now, I love this movie. This movie showed me that genius could be anywhere, and those genius need to find the perfect way to use their gift.
Memorable Moment:
Will's 2nd and 3rd smart and meaningful conversation with Sean, and also their final meeting.
Chuckie told Will what's in his mind about him at construction place.
Memorable Quotes:
Sean: You're an orphan? [Will nodded] Sean: You think I know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are, because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you? Personally... I don't give a shit about all that, because you know what, I can't learn anything from you, I can't read in some fuckin' book. Unless you want to talk about you, who you are. Then I'm fascinated. I'm in. But you don't want to do that do you sport? You're terrified of what you might say. Your move, chief.
Iron man is Cool!!! I love the effect!!! I wish i have a brain like Tony's...Well i'm concerned about the climax, but overall is fine...A good start 4 summer movie Parade..^^
Another late critics from me... This movie is one of the best...Great fight between Eric and Brad..But Bloom? Very useless...Will I ever see a movie like this again in near future? I hope i will....
Spielberg plus Tom Hanks (for both of them, again!) plus Matt Damon as the topping equal a masterpiece. I have mention that guarantee several times, and this time I won't write that guarantee again, for we all know what is it.
War again, but not Vietnam. It's World War II. Spielberg, as always, I MUST talk about him in every review of his movies. He directed this movie wonderfully. Pick his cast perfectly strong and almost flawless. Because of Spielberg, first I thought that this movie will be a little bit boring but again, because of him, this movie is enjoyable.
Tom Hanks, we've arrived to the main cast. Tom Hanks again, in my opinion, played with his normal level, I mean not extra-ordinary like what we've seen in Forrest Gump (and maybe in Philadelphia for I haven't seen it yet) but we all know, his standard was high enough to make him earn positive critics.
The other cast, they played well, enough to drag the character's emotion out and show us what's their emotion was. The other cast, filled with well known cast (in few years later) such as Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, and Paul Giamatti. For Paul Giamatti, I didn't remembered him at all for his role wasn't important enough to be remembered. Personally, I like Barry Pepper's character. Unimportant huh?
This movie has a very good story, opened by a battle in beach, it was one of the best movie opening I ever saw, very realistic, lots of gunshot, lots of blood, lot' of dead body, and lots of quality. The score was a nice one, it's John William's.
I think that's all. I'm out of idea of writing. So I'll end my review here, saying Saving Private Ryan as one of the best war movie I ever watch even though the combat itself wasn't the main point of the story. It is it's moral and value of humanity that made this movie a masterpiece. Guys, earn this..Earn It. Don't waste this movie.
Directed By: Paul Greengrass Starring: Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Joan Allen.
My Review:
He lost his identity, he recovered his supremacy, this time, he sent his ultimatum Matt Damon return as Jason Bourne, maybe for the last time (there's a rumor that said there will be the 4th.). This Bourne is better than the previous two, the best of all.
Matt Damon, playing Jason Bourne the 3rd time. Oh, Jason Bourne is the best role he ever played. After Bourne trilogy, everyone will remember Matt Damon as the actor who played Jason Bourne. I love what he has done in this movie. Julia Stiles and Joan Allen support him again, well enough from them.
Alright, the score was a nice one, especially for an action movie. Oh yeah, I love the cinematography, a smart one. The plot, it's very interesting, and also entertaining. Smart dialogs, great action, this movie has all things required to be a quality action.
This is the end of it. Last year, 2007, lots of third installment such as Shrek the 3rd, Spiderman 3, and POTC: At the World's End, all of them aren't good and quite disapointing (especially Spiderman), but this Bourne, isn't. This is the best sequel (2nd sequel) of 2007.
Memorable Moment:
Jason Bourne conversation with Pamela Landy, the same conversation we saw in Bourne Supremacy.
Jason Bourne chasing the assassin in Tangier.
Memorable Quotes:
Noah Vosen: [in car, on cell phone] Perhaps we can arrange a meet. Jason Bourne: Where are you now? Noah Vosen: I'm sitting in my office. Jason Bourne: I doubt that. Noah Vosen: Why would you doubt that? Jason Bourne: If you were in your office right now we'd be having this conversation face-to-face. [Bourne hangs up]
This movie use style like 300 but all in black and white (plus red and yellow).. Has 3 different stories, and each of them show brutality, and unique characters.. What made this movie good?Bruce?Clive? Not alba of course!! It's Rodriguez n Tarantino!! They directed a very brutal movie and they're best in it!! Bruce Willis done well here, and Clive Owen was cool.. Those cast show every emotion they've got to make those character what they are (most of them are very brutal)..After all, beside of some nudity in this movie, the action made this movie a great one..Can't wait to see the second.. Note: Alba was very cute here!!
Very good movie...A perfect end for another sci-fi trilogy..And epic battle between humans and the machine(?) in modern ways..Another good and memorable fight between Agent Smith and Neo..Really love that scene..
Jim Carrey? In a serious movie? It's a Wow! Well, It's kinda nice, even good. Simply one of the best romance movie, complicated, but has quality to satisfy the audience. I could say this was Jim Carrey's best movie because we won't see his silliness and we'll realize that he has a good face (no stupid mimics). Charlie Kaufman and Michael Gondry made an awesome story and Michael Gondry succesfully made such a fabulous romance, unusual and mind-blowing.
If we saw the cast-line, we'll thought that this movie was full of well-known star such as Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Rufallo, Elijah Wood, etc. Those cast were good, for Jim Carrey we could saw his serious acting (again I said, without his silliness). He really a star and he showed me that he could act seriously not like what we've seen in his comedy movies. For Kate, having her hair being colored by several colour simply a plus for her beside of her performance. Those two are the main point of the story, I mean the main characters. The rest of it was a back up, for Kristen Dunst, she could played a little bit bitchy character well, and I felt it was fit for her. For Elijah, our "Frodo" successfully played as a jerk or even a loser I might say, and Mark Rufallo's performance simply a good one.
Enough for the cast, now we're gonna move to the rest of it. The story, I mean the plot simply a dazzling one. Fresh, unusual, creative, and very entertaining. Even though it was a little bit complicated, I found that this movie was enjoyable. The prologue, 18 minutes! And the next minutes simply made my head banged. After a while, I understand the story and again, I would say that this movie was enjoyable (said it around 3 times eh?).
Okay, the score was a nice one, the screenplay, should I mention it again? The cinematography was quite simple but a good one. This movie also has a nice effect.
That's enough. To close my review, well, this time I just wanna say that we have to keep our memory, one will regret his/her decision if he/she delete his/her memory (could that possible?). How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd. Yes, its Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Directed By: Richard Linklater Starring: Ethan Hawke, Juie Delply.
My Review:
It's simple, it's enjoyable, it's sweet, and it's romantic. This is the short way to describe Before Sunrise. Well, to be honest, it's one of the best romantic-drama I ever see. Well, the story about a man who met an unknown girl, I've seen something like this before, Elizabeth Town, but this Before Sunrise it lot lot better than it.
Actually,it's the first Richard Linklater's movie I watch, but from this movie, I know what kind of director he is. He's a smart one. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, both of them played well and they have their own chemistry, making them one of the best couple in 90's.
The script is extremely simple but good. Well, it's lack of score, but fortunately it didn't make this movie dusty or dull. One thing extraordinary, it's cinematography. I heard that the shoot was using a handheld camera, and they use it brilliantly. You know what's the best things of the movie? It's dialog. The dialog make this movie alive.
Well, that's all. All those romantic event happened before sunrise.
Best Things:
All conversation between Jesse and Celine.
Best Dialogs: Jesse: And I think that's so true, I mean, all-- everything is so finite. But don't you think that that's what, makes our time, at specific moments, so important? Celine: Yeah, I know. It's the same for us, tonight, though. After tomorrow morning, we're probably never going to see each other again, right? Celine: We, maybe we should try something different. I mean, it's no so bad if tonight is our only night, right? People always exchange phone numbers, addresses, they end up writing once, calling each other once or twice... Jesse: Right. Fizzles out. Yeah, I mean, I don't want that. I hate that. Celine: I hate that too, y'know. Jesse: Why do you think everybody thinks relationships are supposed to last forever anyway? Celine: Yeah, why. It's stupid.
"You know what's the worst thing about somebody breaking up with you? It's when you remember how little you thought about the people you broke up with and you realize that is how little they're thinking of you. You know, you'd like to think you're both in all this pain but they're just like "Hey, I'm glad you're gone". "
Directed by:Ethan Coen, Joel Coen Starring: Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones.
The Review:
Outstanding, yeah, this movie simply outstanding. Not dull nor dusty, thrilling, and beautifully directed by Coen Brothers.
There're 3 main point why this movie is Outsanding;
1. Coen Brothers are the director. Without them this movie would be a sleeping pil. Oscar for them? A fair trade.
2. The situation on the movie is extremely good, even though there's only a few score heard in this movie, it created a perfect thrilling situation.
3. Javier Bardem's performance. As the sociopathic hitman. Javier Bardem did extremely great to be one of the best villain ever. Receive an Oscar as the result.
An one additional:
Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, both of them played well, especially Josh Brolin. This movie will lift him.
As the result, we know that this movie earn an Oscar for best picture, and I think 2008's Oscars is in the right hand. The other contenders isn't as good as this. The closest contenders is There Will Be Blood, which unfortunately a little bit boring.
Well, I guess that's all. Here there's no place for "old man" to impress us.
Moment:
Anton Chigurh killed rushed into romm 138, and killed every living things there.
Quotes:
Carson Wells: Do you have any idea how crazy you are? Anton Chigurh: You mean the nature of this conversation? Carson Wells: I mean the nature of "you".
"I think you do. So this is what I'll offer - you bring me the money and I'll let her go. Otherwise she's accountable, same as you. That's the best deal you're gonna get. I won't tell you you can save yourself, because you can't."
Directed by: George Cukor, Sam Wood, Victor Fleming
Starring: Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Leslie Howard, Butterfly McQueen
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Rhett Butler
The Review: What else to say? Simply one of the best, really mean it, one of the best movie ever made, and also the best classic movie.
Although the duration is very long, everything was paid, though some will be very tired watching this.
The story, the screenplay, the score, and the cinematography are amazing! Also, the effect are good for that time.
The actress, especially Vivian Leigh and Hatty McDaniel, but I also appreciate Olivia de Havilland's performance. For Vivian Leigh, it's the first of her movie I ever saw, and I found out that she was born to play Scarlett O'Hara. I found that Clark Gable as the best actor of the movie plus one of his quotes is the best quotes ever, so to conclude, most of the actors and the actress were performing at a high level.
Gone with the wind, this movie definitely won't gone that easily.
"As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" ~Scarlett O'Hara~
Directed By: David Fincher Starring: Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey
The Review:
Must say that, Se7en was the first masterpiece of David Fincher and it's his rebound from poor Alien 3, and it is a masterpiece.
Beside of David Fincher, Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt played well, creating an unique chemistry, though not as good as Pitt-Norton chemistry in Fight Club, plus a convincing performance from Kevin Spacey were enough to support Fincher's 1st masterpiece.
With a thrilling score, great entrance, and an unpredictable ending, this movie become one of the best thriller of all time.
"It's more comfortable for you to label me as insane." -John Doe-
Directed by: Stanley Kubrick Starring: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, Scatman Crothers, Barry Nelson
"Here's Johnny!"
The Review:
Simply the one of the greatest horror ever made, without a stupid ghost and maniac serial killer, or bloody creature.
Very thrilling since Psycho, Jack Nicholson has all things to be Jack Torrance, Kubrick's screenplay, direction, and the cinematography simply amazing! Another credit should be given to Wendy Carlos as the composer, who created a great thrilling music.
One thing that concerned me is Shelley Duvall's bad performance. Average for the beginning but the quality was declining as the movie goes. No wonder Kubrick need in 127 take for one scene, with her in it.
"Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in. Not by the hair of your chiny-chin-chin? Well then I'll huff and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in." ~Jack Torrance~
Directed By: David Fincher Starring: Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton
"My name is Benjamin Button, and I was born under unusual circumstances. While everyone else was agin', I was gettin' younger... all alone"
The Review:
After watching complex Se7en, mind-blowing Fight Club, complicated Zodiac, and now, tear-jerking Benjamin Button.
With a great direction from David Fincher, and great acting from both Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, the emotion of each character successfully shown.
The story flow amazingly, the score accompanied it well, the cinematography was awesome, nice dialogs (or screenplay), and great effect plus a heart-melting end, this movie has what it takes to compete in Oscar.
Not the best of Fincher though but still amazing.
"It's a funny thing about comin' home. Looks the same, smells the same, feels the same. You'll realize what's changed is you." -Benjamin Button-
Directed By: Tim Burton Starring: Ewan McGregor, Helena Bonham Carter, Marion Cotilard, Danny DeVito, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup
My Review:
An adventure as big as life itself. Life is adventure.
For this movie, yeah, maybe for this movie only, I will make it shorter I hope. One way or two to describe this movie? Wonderful and very creative. Who else could be that creative except Tim Burton, that eccentric director. Yeah, this movie is imaginative, and I've mention the way I describe this movie above.
The cast are good, especially Ewan McGregor of course. This movie is quite colorful, unlike Tim's other movie that contain Gothic style. Maybe it's Tim Burton best romance since that Edward Scissorhand. Same Burton but different Edward eh? Well, I love the score, the story, quite confusing in first five minutes but stunning for the rest of it, and also heart-melting in the end. Nice cinematography, fresh humor, romantic scene and quotes, also full of wise words.
Short isn't it? Well, I dunno why, but I just wanna make a short and simple review for this movie. There are some fish that cannot be caught. It's not that they are faster or stronger than other fish, in this case, that fish is Tim Burton's Big Fish.
Memorable Moments:
Every story about young Edward. Especially when he met Sandra in her college, calling her name, surrounded by lots of daffodil.
Memorable Quotes:
Young Ed Bloom: You don't know me but my name is Edward Bloom and I love you.
Young Ed Bloom: Sandra Templeton, I love you and I WILL marry you!
Sandra Templeton:Daffodil! Young Ed Bloom: Your favorite flower. Sandra Templeton: How did you get so many? Young Ed Bloom:I called everywhere in 5 states. I told them this is the only way to get my wife to marry me. Sandra Templeton: You don't even know me. Young Ed Bloom: I have the rest of my life to find out.
"A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him. And in that way he becomes immortal."
Wonderful, this movie was a masterpiece. Tom Hanks as Gump? Yeah! A good movie will always be a good movie wherever you watch it. I watched this movie in flight, and even tough I watch it from a small screen, I really enjoyed it! 6 Oscar was worthed for this movie.
Best Actor was worthed for Tom Hanks done in this movie, you'll laugh, you'll nodding, you'll cry because of what Forrest Gump did in this movie (which prove Hank's quality in acting). This movie was supported with Robert Zemeckis good work which gave him his one and only Oscar Statue. Beside that, this movie's special effect was a good one (remember, it's 1994) and this movie also provided sweet score which raise the moment up.
About the plot itself, it was a unique one, Forrest Gump narrating the story from the beginning step to step and you'll see his simplicity (which will made you laugh) and the result of his simplicity (which will made you nodding). The flashback will end soon after he met Jenny (as a result at the end of the movie will made you shed tears).
Best Picture was the best gift for Forrest Gump after all of his medal. After all, life is like a box of chocolates, never know what you're gonna get, remember?
Directed By: Frank Capra Starring: James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore.
The Review:
Definitely the best Christmas movie ever created in movie history, just a usual movie in it's first half, but wonderful in the latter half. Let me say, very inspiring. James Stewart successfully transformed his character in this movie as time goes by, Donna Reed is a sweet supporting actress, and don't forget Lionel Barrymore who successfully performed as one of the greatest villain according to AFI.
With decent score, this wonderful movie definitely use it's story and it's moral, and also the cast mature act as it's primary weapon. One should see this movie, at least once, to learn how wonderful a life could be.
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"
Directed by: Steven Spielberg Starring: Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes, Caroline Goodall, Embeth Davidtz
The Review:
A superb movie and possibly the best black and white movie ever made. With a simple but fantastic direction from Steven Spielberg plus a click performance from both Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley along with Liam Nesson (but sadly I couldn't see him as German or Nazi though).
Other things that stunned me is the original score and the screenplay or let's say the story itself.
If only I haven't seen the Pianist before, I would definitely prasie this movie. What happened in early 40's is more real than what I'd saw in the Pianist.
Bravo Spielberg!

Directed by: Danny Boyle Starring: Dev Patel, Irfan Khan, Anil Kapoor
"Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million rupee. How did he do it?"
"A. He cheated" "B. He's lucky" "C. He's genius" "D. It is written"
The Review:
Finally I understand why this movie won lots of award, and certainly this movie gonna win the Academy Award.
Right, Danny Boyle created another strong, presumably his strongest movie ever. His directing so far.
About the cast, Dev Patel was a definite (and the best) choice for Jamal, some emotion flowed with his performance and for the role Jamal, the emotion develop beautifully.
Well, other things that simply amazing is the story, well the screenplay itself, because it has power to encourage people about humanity. The score, was very good, and the cinematography, simply lovable.
That's it for the Millionaire, this movie outclassed Benjamin Button on everything.
And the Best Picture is.....
"When somebody asks me a question, I tell them the answer." -Jamal Malik-

Good choices of movies. Haha. I've seen em all except Before Sunrise, No Country For Old Man (half finished) and Pan's Labyrinth. Pity me. ;(
