Croupier 1998,  R)
Croupier
Very slick movie. Deep and meaningful look at the underbelly of folk. Very cool from the time before Daniel was 007.
2
East Is East 1998,  R)
East Is East
This flick is full of belly laughs. This period of english cinema came up with some truely great films and this one is right up there.
I put this in my must own category.
3
Mad Max 1979,  R)
Mad Max
Low budget Australian classic. Good on you Mel. Nice job!!
Cool cops and hardass losers.
4
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior 1981,  R)
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Improved on MM1 with more money in the production. Still a great story of man and car.
The 3rd installment (with Tina Turner and a bunch of kids) too american for my liking.
5
Midnight Cowboy 1969,  R)
Midnight Cowboy
Classic stuff! Didn't all young men want to rush off to the city and become man-whores? This is no humourous Bigalow story!!
6
The Warriors 1979,  R)
The Warriors
A classic flick from my teen years. Dig those 80's gangsters garb!! I'm sorry to see it's been made into a computer game but I guess that shows how good an idea it was.
I'm looking for my own copy.
7
Good Will Hunting 1997,  R)
Good Will Hunting
This is a great flick. I first saw it in 97 when it came out and saw it again recently on tv. Want my own copy for sure.
8
High Fidelity 2000,  R)
High Fidelity
Don't know what it is about John Cusack but I do like his work. This is a film that knows cool music too and that is always a plus for me.
9
Edward Scissorhands 1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
Johnny does a great job (as always) and Winona is as foxy as she can be. This is fairy tale stuff here folks. Happiness, sadness and a moral to boot. I own a copy.
10
The Big Chill 1983,  R)
The Big Chill
A teen flick for the middle aged. I'm a little young to have shimmied to the sounds throughout this movie when they were chart toppers but these are some classic tunes and I owned the soundtrack before I got out and saw the flick. Sex, drugs and rock n roll baby -almost parent style!!
11
The Big Easy 1987,  R)
The Big Easy
A superb soundtrack. Hooked me straight in so i went out and bought it. Got the DVD a few years later and enjoy the watch every now and then. It's pretty lighthearted and who would complain when the trwo leads are at their sexiest?!!
12
The Magnificent Seven 1960,  R)
The Magnificent Seven
This is truely a film of magnificence. I was just a pup when my old man took me to see it. These heros knew how to fight but they had it tough. Big sombreros and knife throwing -wow!
13
American History X 1998,  R)
American History X
True grit in this movie. It's violent but then it's telling a tale of some pretty nasty pricks. Should we take up our hammers and beat down this hatred, or would that just make us part of the problem?
Probably should be a training video for KKK wannabes but I'm not sure they would get it either.
Norton is masterful!
14
A Room for Romeo Brass 1999,  R)
A Room for Romeo Brass
Ahh life is good -until the freaks arrive. Another "like real" UK winner. It's tough growing up around here and I know because this flick has told me so. Nice work.
15
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) 1997,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
Benigni has done some great stuff. He's one very talented Italian.
This is powerful stuff though you wouldn't really know it until the whole film flips halfway through. I guess that's exactly what happened to the jews when the nazis came -nothing was ever the same again. This looks at an ugly topic with the strength of Schindler's List but with more colour. Laughter and tears galore.
16
Two Hands 1999,  R)
Two Hands
Another quality gangster movie from the Aussies. Gotta think fast or you're dead type of movie but here we see the true meaning of karma and the circle of life (or death?). Great stuff! I own it.
17
Sling Blade 1996,  R)
Sling Blade
I heard this man had to do it all himself just to get Hollywood to notice him. I definately noticed his ability when I sat down to this flick. Powerful stuff Mr Thornton!!
18
I Went Down 1997,  R)
I Went Down
Another winner from the UK. This flick had me in fits of laughter throughout. Gritty tough guys and hard luck for the constant young victim but he came up trumps with that last word!! Gotta get me a copy to go with Lock stock and 2...
19
National Lampoon's Animal House 1978,  R)
National Lampoon's Animal House
This gets 5 stars because it's the party movie from my high school years. John Belushi is a great loss to cinema. Long live Bluto !!
20
Crash 1996,  NC-17)
Crash
This is one disturbing group of people. They relive fatal crashes of the rich and famous -to get off!
Injuries, tattoos and wreck-sex -I watched this with a passion.
21
Crash 2005,  R)
Crash
Everyone raved about this when it came out and I know why. This is life as we know it.
Snippets of a day in the real lives of several city dwellers. They go about their business unaware that fate has them in the same bumper car race. As they touch we see the effect.
I wasn't convinced with a couple of the characters but on the whole a great story and well put togther.
22
Meet Joe Black 1998,  PG-13)
Meet Joe Black
Life. We all want answers. We all want more time to tidy up lose ends. I'm not a huge fan of Brad Pitt -especially when he paws the very very beautiful Claire Forlani like that but it's a great story and well told. Anthony Hopkins is masterful as always.
Got me a copy.
23
The World's Fastest Indian 2005,  PG-13)
The World's Fastest Indian
Good on yer Bert! Agreat story based on a great Kiwi bloke.
24
The Breakfast Club 1985,  R)
The Breakfast Club
80s teen flick. I'm sure there have been plenty of those both before and since this one but none more relevant to me. I thought long and hard about my life and my parents. I considered at length the music, the characters and whether I would ever get to kiss Molly or Ally. And then I grew up -damn!
Still holds an important position in my film collection though and great fun when I saw the spoof "not another teen movie". I still wish I could crawl under Molly's desk.
25
Educating Rita 1983,  PG)
Educating Rita
I saw this when it first came out and loved the thing.
Michael Caine is my favourite actor so not really a surprise. It was the first time I had seen Julie Walters and she did a great job too.
The concept that we're never happy with our lot is an old one but the grass may not be greener and could be full of creepy crawlies. Still if you want to be the best you can be sometimes you leave others behind to do it.
Though provoking stuff.
26
9 1/2 Weeks 1986,  R)
9 1/2 Weeks
These two are sex on a stick in this flick. It's looking a little dated now but hey it was 1986.
What excited me most about this film was the imagery -at least 5 or 6 screenshots that would make superb posters here.
We all know about the food scene but the rain drenched scene brought out the goosebumps.
I've got my copy!!
27
Blade Runner 1982,  R)
Blade Runner
Take me to the future. Darryl Hannah can tumble onto my shoulders whenever she wants -what a way to go!
28
The Accidental Tourist 1988,  PG)
The Accidental Tourist
1988 hmm, has it really been that long since I saw this movie. It's always stuck in my mind as a winner. Hurt was good, Davis was great. These folk live our lives on the big screen. It's not simple. It has it's up's and down's. But we can't get off until the ride is over -so live it!
I've been looking to own this flick for a long time it seems.
29
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life 1983,  R)
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
The story is pretty flimsy on this one. The MP team had a whole bunch of losley related skits and decided to throw them together and see how it landed. Still plenty of gems here though and as always a good splattering of memorable tunes.
30
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels 1999,  R)
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Ouch! That has got to hurt!!
These guys are losers but they seem to stumble through lifes trials relatively unscathed and possibly come out winners in the end.
Ritchie employed some of the UKs real life gangsters to get this job done. They can't act but they're real and we know it.
You'll laugh (loudly), you'll cringe, and you'll wonder if the underbelly of Briton is as violent as this.
Got my own copy of this right beside I went Down and Snatch.
31
50 First Dates 2004,  PG-13)
50 First Dates
These two are great together. I bought me a copy of this DVD because I love the humour. Not as good a movie as The Wedding Singer but the soundtrack kicks. Gotta love that reggae man!!
32
Monty Python's Life of Brian 1979,  R)
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Welease Wodderwick!! More great humour from the pommy team to help you look on the bright side of life.
33
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) 2001,  R)
Amélie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
Laughter and tears with the lovely Amelie. I guess there are tough parts of life in all parts of the world but we live in hope too. Good stuff.
34
Saturday Night Fever 1977,  R)
Saturday Night Fever
Raw Brooklyn! I first saw it at a drive-in with my father and brother. The two of us were underage but my old man argued us into the place and I didn't appreciate it near enough. Saw it again in recent years and scored my own copy. Good stuff!
35
Love & Sex 2000,  R)
Love & Sex
Jon Favreau's starting to pop up in a few of the movies I'm enjoying of late. I like the play between the characters in this flick. All good stuff and up there with "Swingers".
36
On the Edge 2002,  R)
On the Edge
Yeah, I'm down with the troubles of these folk. Life's a struggle and moreso when your brain doesn't work right. Great story. Believable characters and an excellent soundtrack.
37
Waking Life 2001,  R)
Waking Life
Is this a movie or a journey. Thought provoking stuff all about life. We've been trying to fathom it forever so maybe this'll help you out a little.
My kind of flick.
38
American Beauty 1999,  R)
American Beauty
Almost 5 stars. I loved this movie. It was powerfully directed and very well acted. I've always liked Spacey and this didn't disappoint.
Is it fair they took the piss in "another teen movie"?... why the hell not! There are plenty of laughs here too.
39
City of Angels 1998,  PG-13)
City of Angels
Yes, Ryan is gorgeous in this movie. Cage is as good as he always has been. And if you don't have to put your arm around your girlfriend in order to comfort her then you should move on 'cause it'll never happen -ever, if not here.
40
Easy Rider 1969,  R)
Easy Rider
This has long been known as the quintessentialstoner/biker movie. I have to agree. These two boys are making their way through life hoping to sell some dope. There are trials and tribulations along the way.
A good soundtrack to go with the wind in your hair but it might have been better for them if they'd popped into the barbers before they left town.
41
Mr. Holland's Opus 1995,  PG)
Mr. Holland's Opus
At first you don't really like Dreyfuss' character. He's too self absorbed and when his baby arrives you just want to slap him. But this flick makes good music with a stand out performance by a young singer that our teacher should be more careful around.
42
Boogie Nights 1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
Dirk Diggler has a very impressive wanger! They tell you about it throughout this movie and then, without really needing to, they show you.
First time I have seen Wahlberg, Seymour-Hoffman and Graham but I like all of what they do since I noticed them here. Rollergirl can skate by me any time.

This is sex in the 70s and a great watch. I laughed, I cried, I cringed and I boogied!
43
Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1974,  PG)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
These guys are funny. It's just a shame they're also old and don't do this stuff anymore!
44
EdTV 1999,  PG-13)
EdTV
This is a pretty lighthearted movie. Plenty of laughs and a little sadness too. The most disturbing thing is that people are making this idea a reality -reality tv baby. makes me fume. Good movie when you think of the imbalance toward crappy viewing we're provided with.
