Once Upon a Time in the West (C'era una volta il West)
My favorite western of all-time. It took an Italian director to define the quintessential American genre. Fonda broke new ground as a leading man playing such a sinister bad-guy. Claudia Cardinelle is a godess.

Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
Existential boxing and soap. Top 10 film of the 90s.
3
Boogie Nights 1997,  R)
Boogie Nights
PT Andersons epic romp about a young man with a "speical gift." The spectacular cast and story lend credibility to a taboo subject, and the humor packs a punch -- equally entertaining and tragic. Also features a ridiculously funky soundtrack. For film buffs, check out Spanish/Russian doc "Soy Cuba" and be amazed at the similarities in camera movement and breathtaking cinematography.

You're so money and you don't even know it.

Better Off Dead
Classic comedy. I want my two dollars!

La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique) 1991,  R)
La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique)
A gorgeous and unforgettable film. Essential film for lovers of world cinema.
9
Lost Highway 1997,  R)
Lost Highway
Near perfect, Lynch's movies are in their own genre -- complex logic defying sensual explorations of consciousness. Also the LH soundtrack is great.
10
Carlito's Way 1993,  R)
Carlito's Way
F'ing awesome. De Palma found a winning combination with Pacino, Penn, and Penelope. The "aha" moment with Kleinfeld in the hospital is so satisfying. Everybody gets their come-upins.
