This movie is my all time favourite. The characters are brilliantly brought to life by River Phoenix in an amazing performance, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman & Jerry O Connell. The story is very good, and the movie is heartfelt and full of everything people will love. I cannot stop watching this movie, even after more than 10 years.
it's 106 miles to chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it. One of the greatest movies of the 80s, no doubt. John Belushi again making an impact after Animal House, and Dan Akroyd as his brother, one of the greatest pairings in comedy movies. One of the best SNL movies, this movie is a CLASSIC. The car chase scene in the mall is a legendary scene, and the music is amazing. Great performances, great music, great movie. Just Great!
River Phoenix at his acting best I think. He captures the character of Mike very well. Also, Keanu Reeves also is very good in this movie, and brings light to his character Scott. An amazing movie, Gus Van Sant at his best, although DrugStore Cowboy is very good too. This movie is HIGHLY underated, but I think once you've seen it, it leaves you feeling something that you're praising the film for. The chemistry between the cast is undeniable, and it really shows. Im a river phoenix fan, so I started to buy most of his movies afer watching Stand By me again after first at a young age, and I think this, above the others, was one that I absolutely loved and waatch over and over again. Amazing film, although not for everyone, you really have to have an open mind about the subjects on play.
Fantastic movie. An essiential view to see what college life was like in the 70s-well, the BETTER part. Love all of the characters, John Belushi in one of his earliest roles for movies, and boy, does he make an impression! Sometimes without even saying a word, he can hypnotise you. The Toga Party is one of my favourite scene from movies of the '70s, and all the cast was really great, even Kevin Bacon in that small, small role! Great movie, one of my favourites.
One of my all time favourites, apart from Stand By Me. This movie is amazing, in every sense of the word. It truely is such a great movie, the story is really well done, I thought. I think Brandon Lee was amazing in this movie, it was such a shame he had to die so young. Love this movie, it was really let down by its sequels, but that happens with most movies like that. 5/5
Amazing movie. The plot keeps you guessing and guessing right until the last 2 minutes. Bryan Singer really did this movie justice, and the performances are top notch. I mean, Kevin Spacey blew me away with his character Verbal, Also, Benicio Del Toro is great in this movie with his accent, had me laughing at most of the times he was on screen, he really was scene stealer in this. The infamous line up scene is great, just great. Everyone plays their part in this movie, and it raises the bar for movies like this. One of the best endings, one of the best ensemble cast, one of the best directors, one of the best scripts, its just One Of The Best Movies out there.
I heard about this movie from my brother and thought i'd take a look, and I have to say that this is very well made movie. The story is well thought out and I thought it was amazing. The acting is pretty good, and I think that this movie defines CULT CLASSIC. Once you'e watched it, the surrealism of it wil drag you in for more and more. This movie will stand the test of time, and no remake will EVER justify what Wlter Hill did with the movie or getting back home and the hurdles to face along the way. I dont think that any actor could match what the actors then did, e/g Michael Beck-Swan and James Remarr-Ajax. No movie collection should be without this one-of-a-kind movie. A cult classic!
John Hughes hits and never misses. Whats there to say about this film, really, its an undeniable classic. This movie screams "teen angst", its THE 80s movie that you have to see, above all the others. Apart from being THE ultimate 80s movie, just watch it, because you have to see this film before you die, if nothing else, if you ever blended into the background in highschool, watch this, its a love letter to anyone who fell into the catergories like the main characters. Brilliant movie.
I LOVE this movie! I thought it was really good, with a good drama / comedy mix, and the actors were really great in it. A little confusing as to why their mother was killed in the first place , at first I thought it was like with "Mr and Mrs Smith" where they are the target and the person they are after is the bait. I esp. love Garrett Hedlund and Mark Wahlberg in it, and Andre 3ooo did a really good job, as did tyrese gibson. 5 STARS!!!
I absolutely love this film. Another 80s classic, no movie can match weird science's pure....eightiesness. Yes eightiesness is a quality. It's a corny, dated quality but one that is tangible and valued by my fellow eighties loving brethren to this day. The film is unremarkable in the fact that it isn't anything groundbreaking or special. It's just a funny movie. And an eighties classic. If you like the 80s and havent seen this film, go out and watch it, you'll thank me later.
There arent many true story movies that are really amazing. But this one takes the cake. Brilliant performances from all the cast, I thought. The story itself is so amazing and heart stopping (like the review said), and the story is treated with such respect from Frank Marshall and all involved. The performances from Ethan Hawke was brilliant, how he could change from becoming the mourner to the saviour (spelling?), and also Vincent Spano, and his character's falling under the stress, amazing performance. Not a movie to watch if you're going on a plane, but its one to watch if you want to see the faith people have in even the worst of situations, and the truth hope and courage of this amazing true story, then watch it, You'll love it, I did. 9/10
I came to the film with low expectations. I was simply stunned by how good it was.
Angelina Jolie is an absolutely PHENOMENAL actress. Her performance alone is worth watching the movie for. Exciting movie with exceptional acting by Angelina Jolie as well as Brittney Murphey, Winona Ryder, and Whoopie Goldberg. Keeps the watcher interested. An excellent plot based on the true story of Susanna Kaysen's autobiography on her stay in a mental institution. Susanna Kaysen is played by Winona whom was hoping for this to be her big comeback to the big screen. However, unlike Winona hoped, Angelina stole the spotlight taking up all the attention for this movie in her role as Lisa Rowe, a sociopath, who takes the movie to extreme limits. Angelina Jolie won a well deserved academy award for best supporting actress for the flick. Definitely one of Angelina's better movies. Fast paced and exciting, Girl, Interrupted is definitely one of the greatest movies of 1999 and deserves all the credit it gets.
John Hughes can never make a bad movie, i think. You want to catch vintage John Hughes and classic '80s teendom at its best? Watch this movie, i think everyone who watches this movie, girl or boy, wants to be ferris, just what hes doing and the great performance by Matthew Broderick. There isnt a performance in this movie that isnt as good as you can expect. 5/5 for this movie, absolute classic 80s.
Gotta love this movie. Molly Ringwald is pretty good, as is andrew mcCarthey and Jon cryer. One of the best moments is Duckie dancing. Great story, great acting and great direction. Another '80s movie classic. Another John Hughes movie that hits you dead in eyes and you have to watch it. One of the best ways that Molly Ringwald could have stopped her "teen movies" reign all over the world.
I love this movie, its chilling and very gorey, but still the performances are great! Very good movie, I absolutely love the cast in this movie. Rob Zombie is one of the best new age directors, I think, and the follow up is a great movie too.
You cannot call yourself a "horror buff" without seeing this movie. Hitchcock's finest work, and can still scare people some 40+ years later. You never really get horror movies like this anymore. What with the main character going 'BYE BYE' within 30+ minutes. Only Hitchcock could have made this movie, no one else would have done what he did. HUGELY let down by the remake, but most people knew that trying to mimick Hitchcock's great directing, and Anthony Perkin's chilling performance wasnt a good idea. What makes it perfect is the fact that it doesnt have gore, it has that great score instead. Its more than just a movie, its a landmark that finally blew the lid on great cinema, and great horror. A masterpiece, in every sense of the word. A true landmark in cinema.
Very good movie, I could watch it over and over. I only bought this movie because I'm a huge River Phoenix fan and I bought films with him in, but I really enjoyed this movie. The story is very good, and the characters are also things to remember this movie by. There are lots of memorable scenes in this movie, and I gaurantee you will still betalking about this movie and wanting to see it the next day! 8.5/10
The thing I love about this movie is that Eddie Murphy was perfectly cast as the Axel Foley character. Eddie Murphy was perfect for the role, because he can be a clever cop, and can at the same time be very funny! Another great thing about Beverly Hills Cop is its amazing soundtrack. There are some great hit songs from the 1980's featured in the soundtrack, as well as an excellent musical score which can be heard throughout the movie (to me, the musical score is the Beverly Hills Cop "theme song"). Let's face it: Beverly Hills Cop is not an all-out mindless action movie. It is actually a clever comedy with elements of action present within. Beverly Hills Cop is arguably Eddie Murphy's best film since he fits the Axel Foley character perfectly. There are many funny scenes featuring Eddie Murphy that will have people laughing. Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is a sassy, streetwise Detroit detective who travels to Beverly Hills to track down the men who murdered his old friend (James Russo). That's the simple setup for the most entertaining movie Eddie has ever done (in my opinion). This is a rather easy picture to review because it's so successful it would be hard to find its flaws. It works in many areas: laughs, action, casting, chemistry between the actors, music, and execution.
Axel Foley was truly one of the best roles Eddie's ever had, and the comic is at the top of his game, indulging in a little improvisation as Axel manufactures scams in order to manipulate the people around him and get what he needs. It truly is a pleasure to watch these performers work together. Harold Faltermeyer's electronic pop score is instantly catchy, and the songs are good too. Some bits, notably the 'bananas in the tailpipe', and the 'supercops' story, are inspired.
It's also worth it to see future comedy stars like Paul Reiser (as an amusingly annoying colleague of Axel's), Bronson Pinchot (stealing his two scenes as the art gallery employee Serge), and Damon Wayans (with hair!) as the young guy who gives Axel the bananas.
Why can't Eddie make movies like this nowadays? For every good movie that he does (the "Dr. Dolittle" movies, "Daddy Day Care"), his failures ("Showtime", "Pluto Nash", "I Spy") set him back. To date, his first three movies ("48 HRS.", "Trading Places", and this one) remain his best.
If you want to see Eddie Murphy at his best, watch this and the other two movies that I mentioned. They are SO worth it.
"Beverly Hills Cop II" is the entertaining sequel to the 1984 smash hit. Of course, this sequel can't top the original, but it's still pretty good. Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley and returns to Beverly Hills to help avenge the attack of a friend. This movie isn't as fresh as the original movie, but I found myself laughing alot throughout. Plus, the action scenes are well done. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and Paul Reiser all reprise their roles from the first film along with Murphy. "Beverly Hills Cop II" is a movie that's loud and noisy at times, but it's funny and entertaining. And it's much better than the disappointing third movie in the series, "Beverly Hills Cop III". Even though Tony Scott did a good job at directing, they should have kept the original director! 4/5
This movie is amazing. It has a blend of Baz Luhrmann's classic vision, Shakespear's classic tale, and a new MTV vibe, to give us a movie like never before. The performances are fantastic, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes really give amazing performances and I loved it from start to finish, albeit for someone who has never even read through the whole of Shakespeare's pla , this movie makes me want to. An absolutely brilliant film that I could watch over and over and still weep for the sadness and some what joy of it all. 5/5
Really good movie, hard to stomach with the added stuff in, but still hard to stomach without it! Awesome movie! not wes craven's finest, but well worth a look!
The film is exceptional in every sense imaginable. Nicholson stars as a prisoner who is sent to an insane asylum. While there, Nicholson creates an atmosphere which gives his fellow inmates a sense of self-worth and a glimmer of happiness. Throughout, it is never made clear whether Nicholson is truly insane or just acting crazy to get out of manual labor at the regular prison. Whatever the case, Nicholson is creating a place that head-nurse Louise Fletcher is finding unsuitable for the other patients. She is quietly evil and amazingly cruel to those within the asylum. Nicholson and Fletcher are getting ready for a head-on-collision that will prove to be the decisive factor at the end of the movie. Will Sampson, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, and Brad Dourif are all great in supporting turns as Nicholson's fellow inmates. An excellent film. 5 stars out of 5.
"Fat guy in a little coat!" Awesome movie, Chris Farley was HILARIOUS in this, I really liked this, made me laugh hard, and still did after watching it again...and again..and years later, Again! Better than Black Sheep, you will NEVER get tired of watching this. If you wanna see Chris Farley at his best, movie wise, watch this! David Spade is also really good as his "partner in crime", if you will. Really good chemistry, great laughs, great comedy. Awesome Movie.
This is such a camp movie, but I have to admit, I enjoyed it. I think that the best part, for me, was Sharon Tate's beautiful performance in this, it was really touching. Barbara Parkins was okay, but was it just me or did her and Lyon remind you of something from a 40s war movie? And Patty Duke as Neely, what to say, was pretty alright, i thought. I have to admit, some lines were cheesy & some were just dripping with overacting, but overall I enjoyed this movie, and the theme song is gorgeous.
The 80s had great movie trrilogies like Back To The Future & Beverly Hills Cop, and finally this generation has a movie fanchise that could even top those. I normally dont look at the visual effects on movies, but this one has some of the best I've ever seen, and the acting, esp. Johnny Depp as the undeniably addictive Jack Sparrow, are top notch. I think, aswell as the obvious child likeability factor for the film, adults can like this flm too. Absolutely brilliant movie, but sadly I think let down by the sequels.
