The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli ( 2010 ) Was a tough one to call - you may find yourself liking or disliking it, based on your particular point of view, as for myself I found it to have alot of preposterous plot holes obvious inconsistencies in this Film that can't be filled by resonable thought ..... like a " King James Bible " in braille would weigh over 100 pounds and lets not forget... how did " Solara " Mila Kunis's character get out from that locked metal door of that under-ground spring. On the positive side, it has been nearly nine years since the talented twins- Albert & Allen Hughes made a major motion picture and Eli is a well made post-apocalyplic action drama with archetypal characters with a freah style of humor ( Ipod ) I also applaud the CGI devastation with the use of de-saturated color scheme/sepia tones ( dry look ) and a quick note, the Hughes Brothers kept nudity and sex scenes out playing to possible Christian movie goers. Casting- always watchable lead Denzel Washington ( Eli ) and Gary Oldman ( Carnegie ) portrays the pivotal role as the Villian, I was impressed with Jennifer Beals work along with Tom Waits ( Engineer ) plus the small role of ( Cannibal George ) played by British Actor Sir Michael Gambon, lastly, cameo part at the end by Malcolm McDowell who was uncredited, in closing Eli , unfortunately gets very weak towards the end questionable twist with '" Solara " after the passing of Eli, walking back home with the " Soldier of misfortune's pack, weapons and Ipod, looks like a sequal for the beautiful large brown eye'ed Mila Kunis who was very good in the pivotal role as " Solara ". Note: This Movie is for connoisseur's of graphic violence " not " Cat lover's. I
The Hurt Locker
R
I have a mix revew on this picture, with most critic's hailing " Locker " as Oscar material, I take issue with them, Director Kathryn Bigelow ( former wife of James Cameron ) has been directing male-centered action flicks for over two decades; it has been seven years since her last feature, her Michael Bay-esque action shoots on " Locker " were shot by her and Barry Ackroyd with quick, choppy, gritty down and dirty close-ups with handheld multi-cams often seemed like a documentary rather than a cinematic film, it was very effective, but .. I felt the picture lack fluidity between major events, lame " de ja vu " parts, bad cliche's with no plot nor message, I have several issue's with " Locker " to name a few (1) Lame mini- plots, involving innocent bystanders that enter the scene simply to create tension, then quickly exit (2) extremely inaccurate, unrealistic on specific details of a ( EOD ) combat bomb squad most of the scenario's that happen's in this movie is deep with in court-martial territory ( 3 ) the tactic of signing notable veteran actors for one scene cameo parts like Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes and David Morse to add name recognition to a cast of mostly no names, lastly Modesto, Ca. native Jeremy Renner who made the character ( SFC ) Will James a likeable and interesting ,well done. I was hopeing for another good Iraqi war movie like " Stop Loss " and " The Kingdom " instead I watched a absurd fantasy, agonizingly bad action war movie, made by a independent ( Voltage Pictures ) with no eye for detail ( Rambo was more realistic)...... Shun this artsy-fatsy scam that insults all Military Vets.
