Re-visiting a chapter in Kirk's past, this movie deals with the questions of age and coming to terms with the mistakes and triumphs that are behind us, while looking forward to what lies ahead.
This is one of the most wonderfully imaginative movies that every child should see. It has wonderful imagery as well as a tone that encourages them to do their own imagining.
I remember loving this movie when I was a child. When it came to DVD, I bought it up immediately and found, to my surprise, that I still loved it. That's the charm of a well-told story. This is one that children will eat up and parents will enjoy watching with them: both to see their children's eyes light up as well as to simply watch this movie for themselves.
Some of the effects are a little cheesily done by today's standards, but you might be surprised to find that the vast majority are still quite nice even under the more jaded scrutiny of today's audience. That is a testament both of the love and care that was put into constructing this film, and also the simple fact that simple effects, used effectively, can be just as powerful to a story as full CG rendering.
The magic of this film gets diluted in the followups, but this is a classic that all children should see.
This foray into the Trek universe brings a lot of charm and humor into the storytelling and creates a movie that has a lot of social resonance in today's society.
This one is a family favorite, and I myself have been known to pull it out and watch all five hours on a whim. This is a wonderful translation of Austen's quintessential novel.
Though it has a few pacing problems, this movie is a can't-miss for fans of the series. The scene where Kirk hears of the death of his son is superb and very moving.
This movie definitely deserved to do better in the box office than it did. It is not the best in the franchise by far, but it is highly enjoyable and addresses the issue of just what makes a soul unique.
This is a passable edition in the franchise. It's strongest recommendation is that it introduced the Next Gen cast onto the big screen so they could make First Contact.
The movie that started it all. It has a few pacing problems and is lacking in action, but if you ever get the chance to see the Director's Edition on DVD, I'd highly recomend taking the time.
One of the weaker installments, this movie was hindered by a shrinking budget and lack of studio support. The ending, for instance, had to be rewritten because they couldn't afford the ending they wanted, and a hasty ending never helps a movie.
Wonderful fun! The Iron Man comics leap to the big screen in a big way. This is one of the better origin stories to come out in a long time. Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for Tony Stark and the evolution of the suit is very believable (within a comic-book universe, of course). And the effects used to bring the Iron Man character to life are a seamless combining of live costume work and CG animation. Very convincing.
This is an amazing movie. Despite the fact that a large portion of the film is spent without any dialog at all, you never really feel that you are missing out on any of the story. The animators do such a great job breathing life into this little lunch box on wheels that you feel you can actually tell what he is thinking at all times.
The animation and rendering quality of the movie are just phenomenal. Very realistic aside from the decidedly cartoonish human characters. But that's just icing on the cake. Eye candy that draws you in for the full meal that the story puts forth.
There is a definite message here of caring for the earth and not letting technology taking over our lives, but you will find yourself simply longing for more story between Eve and Wall-e. Their relationship evolves slowly and realistically, with a rather heart wrenching scene toward the end.
Go see it. It's just a wonderful story that anyone can enjoy.
Absolutely stunning! Whether you are a Trek fan or not, this is a great and exciting thrill ride for all. The effects are top notch, making you actually feel like they filmed these scenes in space, and the action is very engaging, but more importantly, the character moments give us wonderful glimpses into the people who will eventually form one of the most beloved crews of all time. Top notch performances from all and plenty of humor.
