My Favorite Movies

  Fyrmer's Rating My Rating
1
The Crow 1994,  R)
The Crow
Comic book movies--and movies in general--just don't get any better than this.
2
Edward Scissorhands 1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
Probably cinema's best modern Fairy Tale.
This one makes me cry every time I watch it.
3
Kaubôi Bibappu: Tengoku no Tobira (Cowboy Bebop the Movie: Knockin' on Heaven's Door) 2001,  R)
Kaubôi Bibappu: Tengoku no Tobira (Cowboy Bebop the Movie: Knockin' on Heaven's Door)
A deep, thought-provoking movie, it tells its involving story at a laid back, calm pace, all the while throwing some of the most stylish and dynamic yet unrelentingly brutal action at the viewer. This is great stuff.
4
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
The best thing to come out of Disney in recent years. Perhaps one of their best movies ever.
5
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 2006,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Is Dead Man's Chest better than Black Pearl? Probably.
This sequel takes all that was good about the first film, and puts it into overdrive. Everything from the sword fights, to the chase scenes, to the visual effects have been kicked up a notch, and the story manages to be just a bit more grown up and a tad darker than the previous film.
6
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End 2007,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Ladies and gemtlemen, lightning has officially struck thrice! This third chapter of the "Pirates" trilogy is just as rousing, exciting and undeniably fun as its predecessors. In fact, it is probably the funniest--albeit darkest--of the series.
7
Sin City 2005,  R)
Sin City
Noir action at its finest. Probably the best comic book adaptation I've seen.
8
The Nightmare Before Christmas 1993,  PG)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
This movie is so droll, witty, and visualy spectacular, it's impossible not to like.
9
Serenity 2005,  PG-13)
Serenity
A Space Opera on par with Star Wars in its quality.
Clever, irreverant, and relentless it grabs you by the seat of the pants, and doesn't let go until the ending credits roll.
10
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
Probably the best cyberpunk flick of our time.
11
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children 2005,  PG-13)
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children
Absolutley brilliant on all fronts. A great story that picks up where the game left off is told with truly beautiful CGI that puts most of its contemporaries to shame.
All the main cast and even a lot of the secondary characters from the game are here, reinvisioned in stunning 3-D animation.
Even if you've never played the game, I'd recommend you see it, as it is a great film in its own right, as well as a worthy sequel to a revered RPG classic.
12
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) 1999,  PG-13)
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime)
All fantasy epics should aspire to this level of quality.
13
MirrorMask 2005,  PG)
MirrorMask
A surrealistic odyssey, both beautiful and unsettling in its strange visuals. It hearkens back to fantasy classics such as Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal, yet has a style and mood all its own.
14
Labyrinth 1986,  PG)
Labyrinth
The talents of multiple geniuses combine to crreate one of the greatest works of fantasy cinema to date.
