Citizen Kane 1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
There are a few moments in the film that betray the film as a product of the 1940's (some of the makeup and Dorothy Comingore's performance). Otherwise, this film could have been made yesterday and it would still be a great film.

Arsenic and Old Lace 1944,  Unrated)
Arsenic and Old Lace
This may be the funniest movie I've ever seen. Cary Grant is over the top and his comic timing is perfect. I seldom laugh out loud at movies, but for the first half of this film I couldn't help myself.

Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) 1954,  Unrated)

Strangers on a Train
Forget Farley Granger, the real star of this film is Robert Walker as the deranged Bruno Anthony.
8
My Girl 1991,  PG)
9
District 9 2009,  R)
District 9
This movie was fantastic. A cast of unknown actors led by Sharlto Copley who has never really acted before and completely carries this film. It's hard to think of another movie where a digital characters have been so well integrated.

I wanted to see it again the minute I left the theatre.

Hoop Dreams
I'm not at all a fan of basketball, yet count this among my favourite films. It's very long (almost 3h) but the time just passes so quickly. It's up there with Rocky as a film that trancends the genre of "sports film".
