Re-Review 26 November 2011 (My official 9th time of watching this film)

An absolutely wonderous grotesque spectacle invisioned in shear genius and brilliancy the final product being this...masterpiece that most certainly is not Leonardo DaVinci of filmography but it most certainly is Salvador Dali. Not impeccable and not perfect but wild and superb enough to impress with every single bit of great detail and power, incredible power felt throughout the entire length of the film, power of the descendants of Heracles, power flawlessly performed by Gerard Butler and his "299" I'm so glad i usually go for my guts (filmography related), or perhaps for knowing one's true tastes, either way, critics underestimated it waaaay too much. So here's my honest good to heart opinion.

This is an absolutely exhilarating, breathtaking and most entertaining experience. It go me hooked from minute one, every scene and every angle is unique and keeps me interested all the way to the end. The information is accurate, the story begins and ends from a narrators perspective with the occasional interruptions, the characters are strong not just literally and the dialogues (completely in tune with the film) are quite something. That correct pompous use of words, words forgotten from hundreds of years add to the charisma of the whole film.
No cuts, no holding backs and no restraints. It's bloody, gory, sexy, and messy with a good taste and a boldness like no other, very thoroughly mixed together to achieve a high quality film. Zack Snyder brought the life into this film with a keen eye on detail, script, special effects, and the actors most certainly performed outstanding.

It takes some pretty nifty skills to assign a certain actor to some random invisioned role, Zack invisioned Gerard Butler as the brave king Leonidas, and indeed one of the best choices i've seen in films overall, excellent use of his inner rage and strength, amazing performance. Lena Headey is very sexy, very strong and not only she's got greek stunning features, but has a presence worthy of Aphrodite herself (on screen). THE only wife a spartan deserves, and the only woman to give birth to a spartan child. Dilios, Stelios, Theron, "nameless" Captain all memorable characters, charismatic, nice performance.

Short version...many insane sword fights, blood-pumpin' action, exhilarating rush in various scenes, fucking incredible CGI, this film brought back the slomo style with taste and grace, incredible dialogues, this whole film has a certain unique feel to it like no other, an ambiance surrounded by great landscapes, lighting and soundtracks that fit like a glove. It is one of my favorite films if not still THE favorite at the moment, and if you haven't seen it yet, feel free to do so, you won't regret it.

Enjoy or dine in Hell

The Fifth Element 1997,  PG-13)
The Fifth Element
Re-Review: 24.09.2011

TRAILER
IMDB

After so many years and in the cgi indoctrination era, The Fifth Element still rules supreme. It will (i think) forever be one of the best films i have seen and among my personal all-time favorites. Never have i watched a sci-fi action packed film with such interest and the "magic" never seems to fade, especially after decades (that's when they get better). To me, the simple yet perfect combination of pure sci-fi mixed with a drop of humor and good taste action and those incredible scenes, unique, unlike any i have seen at that time, and still better than all this cgi crap i've been fed lately.

The slow paced narrative thread allowing the viewer to get lost within the story easily, you quickly forget you're on a seat in front of a screen. Everything builds up bit by bit until the ultimate scenes that completely burst in "flames" of brimstone and love, for it is also a romantic soapy story in parts, with more scenes that will blow your mind away. Luc Besson added the very old motive of good's triumph over evil into a deeply captivating fantastic masterpiece in the distant future where eventually nothing matter but...the very feeling that stands at the basics of existence and the motive to most things good or bad along history...love.

Sounds corny, but it's impossible to feel that way watching this.

Now i know and knew even then that Bruce Willis's career started with Die Hard/Pulp Fiction, but The Fifth Element confirmed his status, a man truly genetically born for action.

I also realized about Gary Oldman's high acting potential, that simply gives a whole new definition to the term of bad guy.He was outstanding for this part and the single possible choice. And of course the very popular Milla, first time i laid my eyes on her and i knew i was going to like her. From here on she quickly grew and became what she is today, an amazing actress. The perfect being with orange hair everyone got to know quickly around the world.
. And who the hell is the girly guy screaming the entire film? Chris Tucker, also putting up an awesome performance, somehow very fitting for him.

I am glad to see The Fifth Element still tops many productions over the years. It's one of those films that remain with you forever, and you get to tell to those around you about how incredible it was and still is (for me at least). SO...without further addue, in short: action, sci-fi fantasy, love and hate good and evil black and white, mysterious, definitely not rushed and one of a kind. What can you possibly NOT like here...Enjoy!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
This is the kind of adventure you dream of as a kid, being impossible when you grow up you settle with this to feed your adventurous nature and thirst for magic and fantasy but at this magnitude it doesn't matter the age the story itself is so much elaborated, so complicated and long this is truly one of my favorite movies ever, one to be remembered in history and definitely one i could re-watch anytime as long as i HAVE actual time to watch the 3 parts. This is the kind of saga in which each part gets better and better, FOTR introduces us to the characters and vice versa, action starts, the amazing action adventure magical story begins and you get to fall in love with at least one character (guaranteed). T2T picks up the story on more than one front. The fellowship separated now each has they're road and adventures but also time to thrust a little into the characters character and story itself that is even better written. Now this one TRotK is the end of this saga and probably the best of the series because yet again it surprised and surpassed the expectations in effects, sound, plot and the feeling trapping you to the screen. Rarely i've seen movies where each following part gets better yet here it is (make sure to watch the EXTENDED versions there're many things cut, not important but good to know kinda things).
The cast is not worth mentioning, everyone knows these guys and there couldn't have been a better fellowship to bring J.R.R. Tolkien's characters out of the book and on the big screen. Seriously the quality of the acting is incredible and so thoroughly written.
The effects are simply outstanding, few movies give this impressions but fewer movies have this kind of grandoire. The sound is incredible, specially made for this it's got serious feeling to it and make many scenes unique and memorable.
The kind of movie(s) that have everything you look for. Every possible feeling can be experienced withing this saga and definitely one i will never forget or dislike. IF there really is someone that hasn't watched it yet YOU should, fast, i've re-watched 4 times and it keeps getting better.

Cheers and Enjoy!

District 9 2009,  R)
District 9
Wow this was surprisingly good couldn't take it seriously when i saw the ''prawns"at first but the plot is pretty elaborated and however easy to follow. Interesting and entertaining movie, good sci-fi and while close to the Cloverfield premise this has a totally different perspective and magnitude and possibly a sequel from what i personally interpreted.
We're pretty used with present movies having outstanding sfx so it's pretty obvious this one has it also, but like i've mentioned up it's well thought and cleverly placed only where needed or scene itself requested it. Overall it's a great sci-fi/action movie with a nice artistic tint.
The thing that gets you the most is the realism, they WANT to make you believe and i suggest trying to believe since from that point on this movie gets better and everything pleasurably swallowble and exiting all the way. Fresh cast, the main character is pretty damn amazing, his accent as a dork fits every scene he's got, and yet he becomes world's most craved asset. Very interesting concept, i'll follow this in the future whatever comes after this should be even more interesting.

Event Horizon 1997,  R)
Event Horizon
Trailer Here

IMDB Here

This is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror films. Hugely underrated I think and deserves a look, definitely! In the beginning God created Alien and Predator, next there was Event Horizon in the deep space sci-fi/thriller/horror films that marked my teenage-hood. I loved it then, scared the shit out of me, not so scary this time around but provided you got some headphones and you wait until nightfall, you could get spooked at times.

SCREENS

Event Horizon is a decent movie. Not very original now, probably my mind is spoiled with various newer films or even video games like Dead Space, but what it does it does well. It's based on the idea of a space ship, which disappeared just under a decade ago, reappearing mysteriously, prompting a search and rescue vessel to go in and investigate. Telling more would spoil the premise, so no more will be said. It is all set in the future, as much sci-fi is, and deep in outer space, of course. The performances are as polished as you'd expect from Sam Neill, as the doctor, and Laurence Fishbourne, as the scout ship captain, so there are generally no complaints there. The gore levels at times are not for the squeamish, but what else would you expect from an 18 (UK) rated film? There are a fair number of predictable moments, and cliched lines, like: "light'em if you got'em", or my favorite "He's coming, Who?, THE DARK", the analogy "He...THE DARK, is cool, why not IT?, but the overall production is more than decent and able to keep your attention focused on the plot.
Event Horizon is very much an atmospheric sci-fi horror. It does not rely on gore (although there is enough of that) but rather it is the creepy atmosphere that engages the viewer. Andersen successfully creates a tense, depressing, and claustrophobic atmosphere. The suspense and pace are well maintained. It pays tribute to several movies of the same genre (like 'The Shining', 'Aliens' etc).
This isn't THE BEST sci-fi/horror available but delivers the goods, I think. It seems like the audience is divided to haters and lovers. Which one are you? Enjoy

P.S. Just noticed this review makes my number 666 review...weird coincidence huh? (totally non premeditated).

Peace!

Resident Evil 2002,  R)
Resident Evil
Re-Review 10.08.2011

Can't believe i haven't watched this film in so many years, and since i felt like it, decided to re-watch the whole RE franchise.
The birthplace of Alice , on the big screen is incredible. The games from 1996 come to life with the help of Paul W.S. Anderson. This film is probably one of the, if not THE best video game to film adaptation i have ever seen. It's not that old only 2002 but managed to keep the horror golden age feel and suspense. And i'd have to say suspense is what drives this whole film, plus the occasional burst of action and thrill. I know zombies have been around since 1930's or 40's but i first heard of them in Resident Evil so obviously this whole franchise marked my childhood ''worse'' than santa.
It's fucking incredible, has just the right ammount of gore, suspense gradually building more and more, plenty of zombies, thrills, fiction, fantasy and a pinch of horror. Even slight refferals to the game "i want him in the Nemesis project" (RE3:Nemesis game). Then we have the colored strong dialogues like "You like that, don't you, huh? HUH?You like the way it tastes don't you? You like the taste of that? ->Michelle Rodriguez feeding zombies"
and then there's Milla with "I could kiss you, you bitch" or "you're gonna have to work for your meal" --> Kaplan trying to escape and some kickass Alice fight scenes. I also love the whole mystery engulfing Alice, she is a...mystery, at least in the films.
Ok bottom line, Resident Evil is one of a kind, probably the best in the franchise, Milla at her best, Rodriguez the same, and it is positively worth the time, money or interest. Ignore the critics and the ratings, this a very good VG to film adaptation, truly unique. Enjoy!!!

Peace!!!

Avatar 2009,  PG-13)
Avatar
Well my dear flixster friends i never thought i'd say this but there's a time for everything. This movie gave me the single BEST visually experience ever. And i'm pretty sure it did the trick for many of you out there. James Cameron gave us...well me for sure what i have been waiting my whole 22 years, a movie to leave you astonished. It pretty much surclassed everything in the matter of imagination, technology, special effect and an exhilarating experience, the very soul of James Cameron poured on screen looks like this...Avatar (2010), until the next HUGE hit it shall never be forgotten.

First...nice to see Sigourney Weaver reunited with James Cameron again. Dunno why really but i feel she deserves more than she gets.

Sam Worthington as i'm sure everyone noticed is on the path to becoming a world wide known actor with the roles he's been getting lately, i didn't understand why, up until i saw him in Avatar.

Zoe Saldana...OMG, under what rock has she been hiding? i remember seeing her in Star Trek and Dirty Deeds(2005), but holly shiiiit. Everytime i've seen or heard her the whole screen seemed to light up. I've had major jitters at this movie but she was the main reason that gave me most of them, i was literally...happy to see her each time. Bloody well done Zoe.

Stephen Lang the toughest Colonel, the kind of solid guy needed to run operation on such a wild planet puts out great acting as well, with catchy lines and plenty of charm for a villain.

And well done to all the others that made this whole hypnotizing experience possible.

I have watched this movie in BluRay, with a video projector connected to pc from my couch (i say this because THE BIGGER you watch Avatar THE BETTER). I kinda regret not going to watch it in 3D, but the experience is much much more profound if you are all alone. Watched this 4 time in 4 days. Plan on taking a break and re-watch it again. Not sure i will get enough of it, and not sure i should. Everyone should experience this no matter what, undescribable words for it...but probably one that means everything and enough, EPIC!

I don't normally write this much cuz i never saw the point in ANY "novel" like review, people want to know good or bad, simple, however a movie like this seems to deserve, if not all, then some of my feelings put here, and i say some, cuz i could bore you with this helluva lot more, but it's plenty.

Cheers, Peace!!

Flight of the Phoenix 2004,  PG-13)
Flight of the Phoenix
Ok i gotta begin saying just this, seriously under-rated movie. You freakin kidding me? Or was i drunk/drugged/blind and/or asleep? This movie was and still is after 5 years of totally forgetting of it, an absolutely amazing movie. Just stumbled upon it checking my collection and it struck me, i had to re-watch it. Hell it's even better than last time i saw it. Probably most movie hungry people seek complicated twisted and rushed plots, well NO twist here. It's as simple as can be, but it's other aspects are what got to me. For one this cast team has got chemistry. They seem like literally talking with their eyes to one another, not to mention they're pretty much all world class actors known for amazing parts in various shows and movies over the years. Anyway...the other aspect is the environment. It has everything the place they're at needs to have. And third the dialogues which are plain brilliant and them alone have the power to keep the watcher's interest. I'll include words like...madness, selfishness, shooting, friendship, camaraderie, hunger, desperation and much more.
Probably it's cuz i don't tend to attach to twisting plots, but i really really like this movie, i mean a LOT.

Enjoy! Peace!

Max Payne 2008,  PG-13)
Max Payne
This one has deffinetly reached my top faved films.

i know i haven't been rating at all in the last months, but i've been watching some films and finally have got the time to express my opinions.

Anyways thought i'd begin with who other but Max Payne himself, this film adapted by the amazing pc game Max Payne (2001), probably onr of the first games to introduce freestyle action gaming, slow motion effects and such. When i heard that Mark Wahlberg is the new Max Payne i was exhalted, personally i think his acting and expresivity match the role of the DEA detective Payne. I was rather impressed with how the storyline evolved, how the drug V plays a very important part in the death of his family (like in the game) which is the main plot for this movie. I'm not going to write spoilers, find out yourself. Incredible movie, i'm so glad it's connected to the pc game even though critics say it's very poor in storyline, but i'm wondering could it have been done any better? who knows. There's also a character that i personally enjoyed a lot, it's Mona Sax, the contract killer that gets to help Max in his search for his family's killer. Mila Kunis rocks and you get to see other actors with friendly faces that all together make this "game" come to life. Enjoy!!

Reign of Fire 2002,  PG-13)
Reign of Fire
TRAILER
IMDB

Second best if not THE best dragon film i have seen to the hour, can't decide. First time i've seen this i couldn't stop drooling at the sight of the majestic dragons. THIS is how dragons should look like, this is how i normally imagined them before having seen this incredible film. The director gave these dragons amazing strength and power, which you can almost feel throughout the whole film, lately quite rare in recent productions. Clearly the design has been well thought over and the result is incredible...the best looking dragons i've ever seen.

The action is suspenseful, adding originality and ingeniosity, a fantastic medieval-like sci-fi that will give you a whole new definition of the word dragon and it's true power. (minor spoiler: here, these dragons killed the dinosaurs, whaaat?, but interesting nonetheless).

All the action takes place in a post-apocalyptic nuclear bombed dragon infested world with very few survivors left trying to outlive the cursed beasts, a very hard thing to do when you've lost everything and are left with so few, even the bare necessities are low. People are always wary of the sky and keep a permanent eye open if sleeping. It's darkish, gloomy and amazing, damn it this is how a film with dragons should be, period!

Cast is formidable, Bale, McConaughey and Butler (Charlie's Angelsmale version), made it work great. What i truly enjoyed is that no one seems to be the lead actor, somehow they each get his/hers own moment of glory. It's either Christian Bale either Izabella Scorupco or Gerard Butler but this is among the few films i really really loved Matthew McConaughey. Seriously he should shave his head and grow a beard, for this look suits him. He was born for this role and i already imagined him as any other part of a lead warrior/leader/military anytime, just by having this look, which is brilliant.

Now come to think of it, this is my favorite dragon film. Enjoy!

Peace!

Stardust 2007,  PG-13)
Stardust
This is one of those movies that stick with you for a long time, and when the emotional effect wears off you can just pick it off the shelf and re-watch it again for that extra dose of magic, adventure, love and sacrifice. No matter how many times i see this i still get that warm fuzzy feeling, not to mention (and im not ashamed to say) i've shed a few tears, it's just so beautiful. The imagination is abound, fantasy concept put into a wonderful idea. For those that haven't watched it, DO (unless you're against this genre, which is hard to believe since it gets boring and a change in pace is the next best thing), and for those that have seen it but are thinking of it don't bother looking for another like this. Personally it's in my top 10 fav movie, though i've seen 3 or 4 times i'm starting to like it more and more, and it definitely deserves even the smallest attention if not the whole of it.
The cast is to put it simply, Great. Claire Danes as the most amazing star ever, Robert De Niro is.....personality displaced:)), i know Charlie Cox from Casanova and then there's Michelle Pfeiffer, Sienna Miller, Ian McKellen as the narrator and quite a few more. There's some sfx too, but the music is outstanding and if this it's not enough..., whenever you feel like watching something romantic, fantastic, out of the ordinary, Stardust is the best choice (well it's mine anyways).

Enjoy!

Beowulf 2007,  PG-13)
Beowulf
OMG, i have never seen such a perfect combination between an animation action adventure fantasy film ever before. Absolutely mind blowing effects, not to mention probably the best representation of a dragon i've seen in years both the looks and in size, the hottest demon ever Grendel's mom with a cry that would freeze even the warmest hearts, and the mighty warrior Beowulf that slains Grandel bear handed but still falls for Grendel's mom beauty and lies. I'm not sure if the film follows the myth of Beowulf corectly cuz i have never red it and the 1999 film with Christopher Lambert is very different but anyway i don't care, this one clearly is a favourite of mine, incredible movie, worth every penny, so take ur but and go see it at the cinema or at least a big screen tv, it's worth it. I'm glad i didn't watch it on my pc. F*****g awesome. ENJOY!!!!!
13
Eragon 2006,  PG)
Eragon
Re-Review 30.09.2011

Had the "pleasure" to re-watch Eragon at a random local tv channel the other day, second time i've watched it, i even forgot it existed. I remember first time i was impressed with the sfx, the dragon indeed was breathtaking, but noticed far better now that the plot and acting is rubbish. I don't really know who this Ed Speleers is, but he's not film material, you either are or aren't.

But ok decided to give the story a chance, which eventually succeeds in trapping you in it's twines, but only with the help of a somewhat decent Jeremy Irons, the dragon and her voice and Sienna Guillory. Why i like her so damn much, why i think she's got what it takes to achieve a higher status, i have no idea, but she is great. And of course one or two scenes which i dare say are great, not the effectsthemselves but the whole scenes top to bottom, are unique and...magical.

Sadly it's lacking depth and more actor material, it lacks bigtime, other than that it's a rather an ok fantasy/adventure relaxing mildly enjoyable family film. Have fun!

Peace!

Gone in 60 Seconds (Gone in Sixty Seconds)
Re-Review: 04.03.2010

OMG it's been so long since i've wanted to re-watch it again. Finally picked it up and enjoyed the magic that is Eleanor. This movie is all about cars. You don't give a fuck of the little romance there is, the action is also good and storyline great but not quite as exciting as seeing all those cars being lifted. Nicolas Cage at his prime, one of the best movies with him, or so i think. The list goes on with wonderful actors/actresses that together make a perfect car boosting team.
A classic "big brother" kind of idea, the young one messes up and the older bro comes to the rescue. Concept recently used in more and more movies. Not that i'm complaining.

Fun, entertaining, action packed, definitely worth the time and money.

Enjoy, Peace!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
awesome movie not as good as the other 2, and kinda boring the first half hour cuz u know, there's no Jack Sparrow, but after they get him back to the living world the movie comes to life and we laugh a lot of the charming, silliness of captain Jack Sparrow!!!

Death Race 2008,  R)
Death Race
Call me a sucker for action, cars, shooting, guys kicking ass and prison shit, and throw in a few hot asses and you get this visual delight. I just get all "mushy" at these movies, ok yes a little exagerated but isn't that the point? ahh well...Jason Statham is back only THIS time not in another Transporter movie but in this future action tv show with real prisoners forced, influenced and even born to fight. To a certain warden rating is all that matters. so....WATCH IT! adrenaline rush (yeah i still get that feeling at films i really enjoy). HAVE FUN!!!

WALL-E 2008,  G)
WALL-E
For me this has got to be the best animation i've seen in years. i like it so much, so different from what we're normally used to.

A cute recycling robot that thinks it's alone in the universe, finds out there's really more to it....and he only needs one feeling to realize, the feeling that changes the very rules and laws of everything......LOVE!!!

Dead Space: Downfall 2008,  Unrated)
Dead Space: Downfall
a very interesting animation. i think i really missed watching a good animated movie like in the goold old days.

Dead Space Downfall tells us the story of the crew from the spaceship USG Ishimura and the weird happenings and gore killings that start to occur with the discovery of a weird artifact of alien technology. The action takes place before the story from the pc game, so if you haven't played that yet watch this 1st, they're very much connected. Lots of gore, blood, weird hibrid mutated humans....good sci-fi feel and so on. Don't bite ur nails!!

Wanted 2008,  R)
Wanted
another action packed film, with effects, flying guys, and bullets that usually like to curve to the left or light, a pretty harsh training for a pretty ordinary guy, that basically finds out that everything that he know about good or bad is about to change....there always are shades of gray and he eventually finds them. I guess this is the action junkie in me talking maybe but thie movie is awesome. Actors are amazing, popular, with very good skills, but to be honest i was more interested in seeing Angelina again, how much of a cliche is that?...well i loved this movie, maybe you will also. It's great!

Knowing 2009,  PG-13)
Knowing
This movie is stunning. I'm so glad i don't care at all about what critics have to say or bad reviews, to each his own. This is an incredibly artistic movie, with 2 motives the main one being biblical (which you find out eventually) and the second numerological (scientific if you wish). The emotions you get in this one are incredible, very different from Premonition or Number 23 (which are insignificant compared to this if you ask me). Minute by minute this amazing story grows on you, holding every breath you got, and the element of surprise, i would've never though a movie's ending can be so different from the basic motives, and this is what impressed me the most. People believe in something higher solely for hope, for they always need hope especially in their darkest hour, and the darkest hour has truly come.
With spectacular effects and enormous proportions, this movie will squeeze even the little feeling out of you might it be good or bad you will remember it. (or at least i will). The only movie i watched 2 times in a row since 300, amazing soundtrack, visually incredible and truly deep movie, add good acting and i can't see a reason why this shouldn't get your attention. The only movie it could relate to is The Da Vinci Code but only for having a biblical motive and the "number thingy" that's pretty popular nowadays. The only other movie as artistic as this would be Sunshine, there's always been something fascinating about the sun, both destructive and life giving, indeed Knowing is not an original movie but truly beautiful in every aspect. (guess i'd suck as a critic, i'm just a sucker for movies emotionally and visually outstanding). Cheers & Enjoy!

Fast Five 2011,  PG-13)
Fast Five
01.09.2011

Positively outstanding. The previous installment and this one completely rebooted the series and added great new characters and sfx typical only for this awesome franchise. One of the greatest action films i've seen this year so far and just as great if not even more than it's predecessors.

Fast Five picks up right where the other ends and from that moment on, it's full speed in 5th gear all the way. Very nice to see Vincent and Han once again but especially Tyrese Gibson and the lovely Eva Mendes, this team is ready to do just about anything for "the family" and for a shitload of cash. Various scenes remind me of Danny Ocean's squad or the crazy pace of The Italian Job with that Justin Lin feel and, well...better storyline.

SCREENS:

Expect this film to be more action packed, more interesting, more exhilarating and most importantly, highly entertaining. And i wouldn't have it any other way from the cast we already love and the new ones that well we grow to love quite quickly. Also, expect some unique one of a kind scenes, chases, fights that i would definitely pay to see in the boxing or wrestling arena and a deeply disturbing and interesting twist around the end, i can honestly say it shook me a little and i wasn't expecting it not in a million years...literally WTF scene, incredible, oh and and almost forgot the crazy war zone they constantly find themselves into, gunfight after gunfight after...kickass. Whew it's a rush, watch it on a big screen as big as you can, it's worth it. Another film completed, hope we survive until 2013 when the 6th is due release. Enjoy, fuckin' incredible!

Peace!
