A History of Violence 2005, R)
David Cronenberg started his crescendo of "movies which are not about horror, but that will disturb you" with East Promises, continued with a History of Violence, and has reached a particular peak with A dangerous method (though, which future surprises reserves to us?). The movie starts in an apparently simple way, that becomes twisted as the story moves. I expected it even more disturbing and more shocking, but there are some moments in which you see a too much predictable plot and behaviors which donÂīt finely fit with the characters, and also instants in which you have a great doubt in what is going to happen and the deep inside of the protagonists is reflected. So, although not a master work, this movie offers an interesting and fresh point of view of how a storyline can advance. And, in the sense that it makes Cronenberg continue with attractive and original movies, welcome then. |
