October Sky 1999,  PG)
October Sky
I don't know what it is about this film, but if I have to answere the impossible question what is you favourite movie, this is my pick. And I don't even know why! I just know it pushes all the right buttons for me. It might be the actors, (this is where I first fell in love with Jake Gyllenhaal and I'm not sure I ever fell out) it might be the story itself, it might be the directors style but whatever it is, something is magical about this one. I loved it since the first time I saw it. It stirs something inside me. It's straightforward, it just tells it's story and simply asks you to listen. And sometimes that's all it takes. Beauty lies in simplicity and so on. But in the end I guess what makes this film so great to me is that lingering feeling of joy. And that, I will never be able to explain.

The Station Agent
I love this. Small films deserve to be seen by everyone, because no one would want to go throgh life without having seen this film about belonging and coming to termes with yourself, with who you are and your past. Fantastic actors in a fantastic story that I am so glad I got a chance to see.
3
The Matrix 1999,  R)
The Matrix
This is the best actionfilm ever made. End of story. Probably one of the best movies ever made as well. No one should have to go through life without seeing it. It is hat good.

Donnie Darko 2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
Oh, I just love this film. It´s damn confusing, yes, but it really speaks to you and will not leave anyone untouched. And it seems everyone sees it differently, you make it your own story. And of course, Jake gyllenhaal is amazing. Simply brilliant.

Little Miss Sunshine 2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
This is a five star for charm, pureness and heart. Real characters, real emotions. One of the best movies of the year. You don't want to miss it.
6
WALL-E 2008,  G)
WALL-E
This little masterpiece is the only movie to make it into my top ten in a very long time. Best film I've seen in years, and definately a highligt of 2008.
7
Everything is Illuminated 2005,  PG-13)
Everything is Illuminated
Again, picking up brain time. I should stop watching great movies so I can get myself together again. This odd little movie that approaches the horrors of WWII, emotional scares and a harsh reality carries the most beautiful, black and twisted humour imaginable. It's deadpan and in your face, it's cultural differences, it's mispronounced english, it's crazy dogs and dropped potatoes. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's a kind of comic tradgedy that had me laughing while wiping away tears. Update! Rewatched, fell in love all over again. Mesmerazing!
8
Hero 2002,  PG-13)
Hero
Beautiful. I would use big syllables if that wasn't so totally inappropriate for this film. The different versions of a story, the political storyline, the wind, the swordfights, the love, the magic and above all, the colours. We all know the most poetic, most refined and yeah, most beautiful films are Asian, and honestly this is the best of the best.
9
Chocolat 2000,  PG-13)
Chocolat
What a feeling! Something is truly special here and I don´t know what it is. But I like it. Update! Rewatched, and I'm still not sure what it is, but I love this film. I actually cried, and that almost never happens.
10
Waltz with Bashir 2008,  R)
Waltz with Bashir
A perfect film. In every aspect. An amazing opening, and streaks of animation and music that will linger on my mind for a long time to come. It's also educating, I didn't know anything about Libanon or this massacre (in my defence, I wasn't born when it happened, but still) and now i do. Because I asked. I asked everyone around me about Libanon. So now I know, and I will remember. That matters.
The creative choise to make this documentary as an animation was the brilliant streak that made it magical. We have seen documentarys with sad old men talking about thier war experiences before. We had never seen this. The blend of mediums, and the way they complement each other and formed something stronger than the individual pieces. A landmark film, and not only in animation.

United 93 2006,  R)
United 93
Wow. Enough said. A real story told with real people about the people of that day. Wow.

Update! After a rewatch I am conviced that this is going to be one of the best films of this decade. I haven't been shivering like this after a movie since I watched Schindler's list when I was fourteen. Just couldn't stop shaking.
12
The Full Monty 1997,  R)
The Full Monty
This is a great film. Just go see it. It makes me all fuzzy inside, you get everything you can ask from a film.
13
Ocean's Eleven 2001,  PG-13)
Ocean's Eleven
Funny, tricky, interessting, surprising, well played, witty and entertaining. I could go on with quite a few more posetive adjectives, but you get the picture. This is high class comedy.
14
Notting Hill 1999,  PG-13)
Notting Hill
My favorite romantic comedy all time. Also my first really beloved film. And, as I discovered upon a rewatch, with good reason. Plenty of magic moments, an excellent supporting cast and a great soundtrack makes this a warm, clever and absolutely wonderful movie, perfection in it's genre and a great choise for good and bad days alike.
15
Beauty and the Beast 1991,  G)
Beauty and the Beast
My Disney favourite, this top three is as good as Disney gets. Real classics!
16
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
This film has the coolest script. I promise. The idea is so freaky that it's brilliant, and the situations that occurs are equally hilarious and bizarre. Great acting, nice ending twist and I guarantee you will never look at memories the same way again.
17
L.A. Confidential 1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential
Just brilliant. The actors, the characters, the plot and most importantly the feeling is perfect. I can't even describe what an impact this film had on me. One of my first brushes with great moviemaking.
18
Easy A 2010,  PG-13)
Easy A
One of the best, funniest and warmest films I've seen aimed at a teen audience. Emma Stone has an intelligent charm that really carries this clever little gem of entertainment. Upon rewatch, I like it even more. This is becoming a real favourite of mine.
19
V for Vendetta 2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
Based on a graphic novel this political thriller slash action movie slash superhero movie (with the weirdest superhero the world has ever seen!) is beautifully written, incredibly well-acted visually stunning and is sure to make you cringe, gasp, shiver and maybe even smile a couple of times. It's fantastic, an experience you just don't want to miss.
20
Mulholland Drive 2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
A complete mystery at first glance which slowly unfolds into a very complex picture. Facinating, surreal and still so affective, it is a real masterpiece.
21
Billy Elliot 2001,  R)
Billy Elliot
A masterpiece. This is brittish drama at it´s best. Not much more to say about it really. Touching and very real. Jamie Bell in the leading roll is exellent.
22
Rain Man 1988,  R)
Rain Man
I fell in love with this, passionate overwhelming love. A true reminder of what a film should be like, with a bit of laughter and a bit of sadness and practically everything in between. And on top of that amazing actors, Hoffmans oscar was well deserved and Crusie continue to impress me.
23
American Beauty 1999,  R)

This has to be one of the best films ever made, right?

A great teenage film, with friendships, loveproblems, football and different cultures. Great acting.
27
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) 1999,  PG-13)
Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime)
The best one from Miyazaki. No more words needed.
28
Sleuth 2007,  R)
Sleuth
I absolutely loved this movie. Loved it. Probably influenced by my fondness of the stadge-like atmosphere, but none the less. Style, setting, direction, score and above all the acting. I dare say, Jude Law has never been better, and just, damn, I loved this twisted relationship, the games the plans the little dripplets of evil, the omnious mood and the sense that the house they were in was a world of it's own, where no normal rules applied. And again, the acting. It's worth repeating, damn!
29
As Good As It Gets 1997,  PG-13)
As Good As It Gets
A new favourite. End of story.
Update! A favourite that held up for a rewatch none the less. Good stuff. Love how some of my TV heroes keep popping up in small roles too, there is Taube and Cuddy from House, Dexter's Rita and even a one-line part for Avon Barksdale himself. Then we have the little old lady from House, and a rather funny Cuba Gooding. Ah, the little things. 'Cause the big things here, Nicholson and Hunt, are flawless. Also, I can't help but notice that Greg Kinnear keeps appearing in films I like. Odd coincidence.

The Boondock Saints 2000,  R)
The Boondock Saints
Hits every beat. A modern classic for a reason, with immensely likeable characters, clever storytelling, a perfect balace between action, comedy and drama, well paced and with superb dialouge. And contains the epicness of "THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!"
31
Catch Me If You Can 2002,  PG-13)
Catch Me If You Can
Hilarious! And actually has some seriousness, if you look a bit closer. Great acting performances.

Erin Brockovich
Feel good!

Snatch 2001,  R)
Snatch
I was deeply impressed by the hilarious crazyness of this film (as well as the highly entertaining backside text). Acting, dialouge, camerawork and plotintertwinments are top notch. Tis is a masterpiece in it's genre, and I will be sure to catch Guy Richies other works.
34
Look Both Ways 2005,  PG-13)
Look Both Ways
Great little Australian movie about death and dying. Experimental, heartwarming and over all wonderful. Just my kind of humor too.
35
You've Got Mail 1998,  PG)
You've Got Mail
Lovely, sweet and actually really funny! Romantic comedy at it´s best. My favourite along with Notting Hill actually.
36
Darling 2007,  Unrated)
Darling
The best swedish film I have seen in a very long time, possibly ever. It's for people who doesn't like films from Sweden. It's got the music, the dialouge and the sense of real humann beings that I lack so often. It also made me realize, painfully clearly, that Sweden is a very lonely country.

Fight Club 1999,  R)
Fight Club
O My God. Few movies ever live up to the hype, this one does. Man! Longer review will appear once I have put my brain back together.
