Waited what seems like forever for this to come out...and boy was it worth it!! Having now seen it twice, I can't get the music and memorable lines "at last my arm is complete again" out of my head!! Now....who's for a shave?
One of Tim Burton's masterpieces. The magic touch he places on his films is inescapable. The story is heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. The suburban setting where everything is preened and perfect holds more darkness than Edward's empty castle, which is intriguing and strangely beautiful, just like Edward.
Forgeddaboutit.... Al Pacino steals the show as Lefty, and JD handles the accent and attitude convincingly as he slowly becomes part of the group he is infiltrating..
You've gotta admire the guy's eternal optimism and enthusiasm. Voted the worst director of all time, cros-dressing Wood always wanted to be like his hero, Orson Welles. Unfortunately, he lacked talent somewhat. But the admirable thing is, he didn't let anything or anyone stand in the way of his dreams. Beautifully shot in black and white with a great supporting cast, Martin Landau as Bela and Bill Murray is hilarious at times.
I loved this movie!! Cleverer than it seems with great acting throughout. Loved John Turturro's sinister role as the disgruntled author. JD is one of those actors with the ability to make you sympathise unconditionally with the character until you're unable not to like him and be on his side for any reason!
Absolutely amazing! This film gets into your head and makes you ask yourself serious questions about hatred and how easily lies are swallowed by young impressionable people. Ed Norton is fantastic as Derek, so good in fact that you find yourself appalled at how much you listen to and believe some of the hatred he spreads to his fellow extremists. Also due credit must be given to Edward Furlong as young Danny, through whose eyes the film is played out. It is interesting to watch the impact of his brothers actions on Danny's life. Clever mix of colour and black and white also add to the atmosphere and separate past events from the present and really make you feel as though you were right there. Definitely one of those that everyone should see as it really is a treasure of a film. I can guarantee that unless you're cold hearted (or racist), it will move you. Hate is baggage...
Ichabod Crane, New York pathologist is sent to the aptly named village of Sleepy Hollow to look into the murders of locals. Once he arrives he is informed of the general superstition that a headless horseman has been decapitating people. Crane does not entertain such notions, being a man of science. He sets out to prove them wrong and to find the culprit. "The murderer is a man of flesh and blood and I will discover him". Oh how wrong could he be! I could watch this movie over and over, just to see Ichabod feint!! A really good cast of British actors makes this a must see.
The only reason this movie doesn´t receive the full 5 stars is the fact that after switching faces..there were no scars!! WTF?? Anyway...apart from that, I found it to be an utterly awesome watch with amazing performances from Travolta and Cage. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and the action sequences were awesome..all in all a great film that i´d definitely watch again...and again...
Firstly I would like to point out that Baxter the pyjama wearing dog steals this movie from his human co-stars, followed a close second by the waterskiing squirrel! Hilarious from the outset, Anchorman sees Will Farrell as Ron Burgundy, an extremely popular tv newsreader in San Diego, whose predominantly male workplace is invaded by Veronica (Christina Applegate), a reporter with aspirations of becoming the first female anchor. Steve Carell is hilarious as the idiot weatherman, Paul Rudd does a good comedic turn as the supposed "ladies man" of the group. Funny cameos from Jack Black as a biker, and Vince Vaughan and Ben Stiller as rival newsreaders.
Johnny Depp becomes gonzo journalist Hunter.S.Thompson (Raoul Duke) accompanied by his lawyer (the samoan) played by Benicio del Toro in an adaptation of his book of the same name. This is a movie you could watch at any time of day, in any mood. It never fails to make me laugh and rewatching it, I always find something I hadn't noticed before. Having read the book, I have to say that I wasn't a bit disappointed, and JD was exactly how I imagined Raoul to be. Having also read a book by illustrator Ralph Steadman about his life with Hunter, the slurred speech and mannerisms portrayed by Depp seem accurate from his descriptions. The plot becomes blurred throughout the movie, reflecting the minds of those involved! It's no wonder as Thompson wrote it as he experienced it...on acid! A fabulous film.
This is Halloween..... Who couldn't love the tale of Jack Skellington Pumpkin King of Halloween town who discovers the joy of Christmas and wants to spread a little cheer in his own special way? Even though he ends up having to be rescued from himself by Sally the ragdoll and his ghostly dog Zero, his intentions were noble! This film says a little something about curiosity "what's this?" and also about the magic of xmas.
What a movie! Amazing stunts and special effects especially the breathtaking freerunning scenes. Daniel Craig is the height of cool as the newest (and best in my opinion) OO7 and he give a great performance. The film also has a pretty good storyline and sufficiently neurotic bad guy as well as gadgets and even a car equipped with a defribrolator (what next?) although it does come in handy...I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, even though I'm not normally a Bond fan. I think Craig brought a proper sense of character to the role, especially as we are given the story as to how he becomes an agent and we are shown that he is in fact human as opposed to the generic indestructable bed-hopping shooting machine that has been portrayed in so many of the other movies.
Leo shows he can really act in this movie with a fantastic performance as mentally ill Arnie with a great turn from Johnny Depp as the long suffering Gilbert. A must see
Hilariously funny at times, the chemistry between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is evident and they work really well together. Its a bit of light hearted entertainment, and Vince Vaughn brings in a laugh or two as well...
I love the use of colour in this movie, so vibrant and almost fairytale-like. Baz Luhrmann leaves his mark as always, great cast, love the twists on classic songs - Queen's 'the show must go on', Elton John's 'your song'....fab!
A stellar voice cast makes up this classic Burtonesque tale of doom! Johnny Depp's bumbling character Victor, ruins his wedding rehearsal and is sent away to practice his vows until they're right...a "twig", a ring and the vows later..he finds himself married to a corpse (excellently voiced by Helena Bonham Carter) as could only happen in a Burton movie! I especially love Bone Jangles, the Sammy Davis Jnr soundalike skeleton! I also like the role reversal of the two worlds- the dead having more life than the living! Other voices include Albert Finney and Joanna Lumley as the bride-to-be's insufferable moneygrabbing parents and the legendary Christopher Lee as Pastor Gallswell
The colours and atmosphere of this movie are indeed like chocolate! The setting is beautiful, you almost wish you could jump through the screen and be there yourself.
This is the story of George Jung, ace drug smuggler, played masterfully by Johnny Depp. He is able to believably show the different stages of Jung's life, from the naivity and youth of selling a bit of pot in the 60's, to the big cocaine operations involving el padrino...
Great turns from Ray Liotta as Jung's long suffering and unconditionally loving father and also Penelope Cruz as crazy bitch Mirtha, Jung's wife.
As lighthearted as it seems from the beginning, this tale is ultimately a sad and moving one. Narrated by Jung from prison, the story unfolds as one of fun and youth at the beginning but ends up with betrayal and loss. What makes it more moving is that it is based on a true story of this man who lost everything and became everything he vowed never to become. Johnny does it again....brilliant!
