Exorcism films, or possession if you like, specially the american ones, always had this kind of duality between the religious and the "medical" side. Superstition vs. reason. That's only normal, and it happens here also. But this is not an "Exorcism" film. It is in a way, but ultimatly it's a Drama, a pretty intense and creepy one.

The story is the typical one: young girl, epileptic, raised in a very conservative and overprotective manner and with a huge religious influence. But the director's approach and his way of telling the story is different. Different from, for example, recent "Emily Rose". The level of the carachter's complexity and "madness", specially Michaela, is much more higher, which may have something to do with the German Expressionism influence... The quality of the acting couldn't be better.

Hans-Christian Schmid made an intense and "difficult" film that it's not exacly "enjoyable". That certainly wasn't his goal, and I'm sure that the bad critics I've seen don't take his sleep away...
