Fine performances from all, especially a young Dean Stockwell doing a fantastic English accent. Fantastic direction by Jack Cardiff and a "true to the novel" script
Okay, not a masterpiece, but a film that is so bad it's good. Cheesy dialogue, bad effects and overall appaling script, the film is only saved by the performance of Dean Stockwell (you can see a pattern in my favourite films)
If there is a better British film then this, then I havent seen it! Richard E. Grant has never been better, the script is full of wit and humor and the entire cast are on top form.
Funny in places, but overall an appaling attempt to bring the classic series to a modern audience. Too much effort put on SFX and bad acting all round, with the exceptions of French Stewart, Debra Messing and Dean Stockwell who are very much wasted in this film.
Very touching story about a father and his sons trying to resolve their problems in a log cabin...oh, and trying not to get killed by two escpaed convicts at the same time
An absolute must-see. A great court room scene, attempted rape scene and fantastic performances from Dean Stockwell and Orson Welles makes this film one of the greatest films I have seen for a long time
A triumph in the history of film, with superb performances from all involved. Hepburn is nothing more than magnificant as the morphine addict mother surrounded by a family falling to pieces. Ralph Richardson and Jason Robards Jr give the performances of their lives as does the extremly talented, ever suprising Dean Stockwell, whose depiction of the youngest son suffering from consumption is perhaps his finest role to date. At three hours, its a film which requires much patience. However, the rewards and merits after viewing this film will stay with you forever.
The original and the best. Just goes to show we Brits know a thing or two more when it comes to making horror films. The horrible remake? Nicholas Cage? What were they thinking?
A nice little film aided by great actors. And damn it, Dean Stockwell should have gotten the Oscar for this, instead of Kevin Kline with a moustache in a movie about a fish!!!
A firm favourite of mine, with catchy songs and great performances. Sinatra and Kelly work so well together and are aided by the fantastic talents of Kathryn Grayson and a very young Dean Stockwell.
