This is the best movie of all time. George A. Romero manages to capture every emotion in the spectrum. He is truly one of the best directors of all time. There is only 1 Dawn of the Dead and this is it. Don't waste your time with the remake. This is the real deal!
A futuristic masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick. This movie has a huge cult following and most every person I know loves it. The original cut was 4 hours but the bonus cutting room floor footage was destroyed by his asst. Let's hope not!
Although Quentin Tarantino said Stone ruined this movie, I can't picture it any other way. Over the top violence and a true love story. I have seent this one over 50 times. It has so many great parts. Great performances by Rodney Dangerfield and Tommy Lee Jones.
So much talent in this flick. The revival of John Travolta and the verification of Samuel L. Jackson's talent. I can watch this one at least once a week for the rest of my life. Full of the whole Tarantino bunch, there are so many great moments in this film. Q.T. is one of the most talented directors of my generation.
This movie draws you in and keeps your attention from start to finish. The black and white format of the film just adds to the gritty feel of the overall movie. I see something in Darren Aronofsky and hope he keeps his career up. Not bad at all for his first major release, if you can call it that.
Lots of laugh out loud schemes in this classic movie. P.T. Anderson was really on to something. I have seen this movie several times and plan to watch it quite a few more. Also was the revival of Burt Reynolds.
Such a deep story, it makes you unaware of the length of the film. Another masterpiece from Anderson. You actually connect with quite a few of the characters. And Tom Cruise finally accepted a role where he isn't such an over the top stud. Well, at least underneath it all, he finally humbles himself.
This movie is one of the best dark comedies ever. Cult classic. And it contains Dennis Hopper! Lots of laugh out loud moments in this one. Time for incomingggg mailllll!
The movie that put Kevin Smith on the map. And to think they wanted to rate it NC-17. Perfect dialogue, great jokes, and hilarious antics in the little independant film that could. Proof that budget and a huge distro company don't make the movie. It's stripped down, raw, and great from start to finish. Be sure to catch the 10th anniversary and see some of the alternate/deleted scenes, especially the original ending. And a decent soundtrack to boot. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are hilarious. Then you have Olaf Olafson, the Russian metalhead singing Berserker. Cult classic by far.
Even though Smith swore that he would have no more on-screen antics for Jay and Silent Bob, this one flew in under the radar. Probably just as funny as the original, if not more. Be sure to check out an ode to Silence of the Lambs featuring the hot track by Q. Lazarus
Yet another Kevin Smith smash. Embraced by an all-star cast, this movie has something for every type of viewer. Part of the fun of a Smith movie is spotting all his friends and previous stars that manage to pop up in every one of his productions. And there is some great deleted footage as well. Especially the Fat Albert rap by Jay and Silent Bob while they are in the strip club.
This film is proof that you don't need outside elements to dazzle the viewer. The first in a long line of great films by Tarantino. Stripped down and dripping with hilarious, witty dialogue. And for a change Chris Penn has one of the best characters in a movie. Favorite part: Michael Madsen dancing with a razorblade to Stuck in the Middle with you
So many mixed reviews about this one. Either you love or hate it. I happen to love it. I will admit that you could trim at least a half an hour off the total movie. This might take away some of the feel and understanding of the flick, but at least you wouldn't be reaching for the remote to fast forward. Dennis Hopper is the king, as always! Awesome battle scenes and some hilarious moments. One of my favorite movies of all time.
It is damn near impossible to condense such a great story into a miniseries, but this one pulls it off. Great casting and a few decent cameos make this movie impossible to turn away from. There are some slight changes from the book, and a few merging of characters, but still a great experience for King fans, even if you haven't read the novel.
Definitely the best of the three prequels. This movie brought a whole new audience and respect to the Star Wars tale. Finally Lucas has the technology to match what his scripts call for. Favorite scene: Canyon Dune turn as the Tusken Raiders snipe the racers. Can't go wrong w/the Tuskens!
Tarantino finally decides to branch out and make a different kind of film. Full of action and semi true to life characters, this movie has over the top action and great fighting sequences. Have heard that Tarantino has had a life long ambition to make a movie of this sort.
The whole Rodriguez bunch carried over to a Tarantino screenplay and then topped off by himself and Clooney in the main roles. This movie is great the first time you see it if somebody hasn't already revealed the crazy plot twist. Plenty of gore, Tarantino as a sick ass pervert, and Clooney as a real hard ass. Tie in the great support of Harvey Keitel/Juliette Lewis, cameo by Tom Savini, and you have a great movie.
Despite what most people say, this is Carrey's best role to date. And Ben Stiller didn't do such a bad job directing. This movie has me in stitches every time I watch it. Favorite parts include the bathroom fight scene w/Owen Wilson, and the dream sequence. And the karaoke jam isn't too bad either. They actually released it as a video on MTV and VH1.
Here is a movie that got zero publicity but still managed to start a healthy following. It didn't hurt to get Oliver Stone as a producer though. Kiefer Sutherland in one of his best roles to date. Reese Witherspoon obviously shows that she was on the verge of breaking out. This one never gets old. "That's not all I did to grandma"!
All star cast and top notch director have made this a classic film that will remain notorious for the duration of film. As this movie doesn't contain as much battle as most war movies, it would probably be ranked in the top 5 war movies of all time. Brando is off his rocker and Dennis Hopper is drug adled as well. A decent enough start for young Fishburne and Harrison Ford has a small bit as well. Then you just can't beat Robert Duvall. "If I say it's safe to surf this beach goddamn it, it's safe to surf this beach". Also watch for R. Lee Ermey in one of the choppers. "Air Cav, son"!
Most Evil Dead fans say that Army of Darkness is the best, but I have to object every time. There are so many things in this one that make it great. I have this one on vhs and dvd. This movie was due to be rated x, so Raimi and the Berger/Nicotero fx company had to change all the blood to different colors to maintain an r rating. "We are the ones who were and shall be again. Stairs of the book". "Dead by Dawn". And it made a cool Deicide song too!
None greater than the original in this series. Lambert wasn't really on the map at this time, but Connery was still pulling in viewers. The real star in this movie is Clancy Brown. He is the ultimate antagonist. You just don't mess with a Kurgan. "It's better to burn out than to fade away"! The car scene with Brown is great. He's closing his eyes and singing New York, New York and mocking Brenda Wyatt riding shotgun.
DiCaprio in his finest role ever. This movie is a pretty good adaptation of the drug adled memoirs of a struggling teenager coping with substance abuse, mischief in the city, and trying to express himself through poetry. Mark Wahlberg is great in his role, even though he hasn't established himself as a credible actor. A lot of the stuff in this movie isn't supposed to be funny but brings a smile to my face. Contains a few tracks with Carroll on vocals and Pearl Jam backing him up. Favorite parts: When they beat the hell out of the well-to-do woman for her purse, Jim begging at the door for some money, and when he is shacked up with Reggie going cold turkey. Classic humor. MOM, COULD YOU GIVE ME SOME MONEY, PLEASE!
I have not met one person that didn't like this movie, or at least have 20 different favorite scenes lined up to share. The crazy thing is that this film is actually based on a true story. Superb acting, as you foreget that it's actually Johnny Depp and not Hunter S. himself. This movie is a classic from start to finish. Can't say enough good things about it. Favorite scenes: White Rabbit in the hotel tub, cruising the streets of Vegas and harrassing all the people they run into, ending up at the circus bar on devil ether, and of course, the adrenachrome trip. My favorite part of all is when they are still on the sunshine acid, Lacerda is naming off motorcycle brands, and then he's in the fucking jungle. Classic!
Another classic from the Coen brothers. Non stop laughs as this stoner flick unfolds in the most hilarious fashion. John Goodman is a great actor and shines throughout the whole movie. All the other supporting roles are equally funny. Lot of top brand stars lend a hand as you see how big of a mess "the dude" can get himself into. Great writing, directing, and an enjoyable film in every aspect. Favorite part: any scene with John Goodman. "You're out of your element, Donnie"
David Lynch plus Dennis Hopper equals one hell of a movie. I have seen this movie over 10 times and it's even better every time I drag it out. Hopper is definitely the star of the show in this twisted tale about an average Joe getting sucked into a whole new world. Nice visual at the start with the sleepy town and right at the underbelly is a whole new existance of parasites and insects. Favorite Quotes: "Fuck Heineken, Pabst Blue Ribbon!". "You want me to pour it Frank? No, I want you to fuck it". Then when you add Dean Stockwell singing to Roy Orbison's In Dreams, you will be in pure heaven. I cannot picture anyone other than Hopper in the role of Frank Booth. This movie is disturbing and hilarious on so many levels. Be sure to check it out and you will see what I mean.
Jesus, this movie is hilarious. This was the movie that put the Zucker bros. on the map. This movie is one non stop laugh. Every character in this movie makes you laugh. I have to say that this movie is one of the best comedies in history. Favorite parts: anything to do w/Captain Over, The group sing-a-long where the stewardess knocks out the little girl's iv, and Barbara Billingsly talking jive. "My mamma didn't raise no dummies, I dug her rap". Disco segment is also great.
This movie is pure proof that the Japanese have a fresh new take on the cinema industry. It's like The Matrix meets Night of the Living Dead. The story gets a little slow at times, but the over the top action more than makes up for it. Shit, how many movies do you see a zombie firing a gun? Plenty of gore, decaps, and amputations. Beware, there is an r-rated version at your family oriented renting facilities. Don't waste your time with it. I rented it and was pissed within the first three minutes of it. And be sure to read the subtitles instead of using and English paraphrase track, for you will lose some detail in translation. This movie kicks ass.
I hate to say it but I didn't recognize Harvey Keitel the first time through. I saw his name in the credits and pieced it together. This movie is a must see and own if you have the chance. I just bought the 2 disc directors cut from Wal Mart for 7.50, a huge steal. This is why De Niro is king. Some say that the movie is a little slow and boring, but the payoff makes it all balance out. Hell, this movie even caused a president to get shot. How many movies can say that. And I can also add that I could see no one else as Travis Bickle, especially Al Pacino. This is one of my all-time favorites. I've seen it about 6 times and own 3 versions of it now. Be sure to check it out.
