love and memories, there are many levels to this movie and it sure made me think .... whether you would do the same thing again if you lost the memory of it. Whether connecting with someone else is something more than just being at the right place at the right time.
This movie is a masterpiece. I wouldn't say that about many movies but after watching this again I was blown away by the attention to detail and the long camera shots. Its completely engrossing and completely believable.
Told through the eyes of a relunctant hero played perfectly by Clive Owen this movie gives you a disturbing future that still has an ounce of hope. The casting was brilliant, heavy weights like Michael Caine & Julianne Moore make this movie gripping and hard to look away from.
Top honors go to the director Alfonso Cuaron, who is someone that I will always keep my eye on from now on.
This movie has it all, not only great direction ( love the way Luc Besson directs to the music... he has great tempo),the colour, the design, the fashion. The comedy. Its a great ride.
Empire is easily my favourite out of the whole star wars saga. It has a solid story (thanks to Mr Lucas) but most of the credit should go to Lawrence Kasdan. Everything from following star wars with the space ext. shot and having a star destroyer fly over camera again, getting a sneak peak at whats under the mask of vader, having Han & the gang constantly being chased by the empire while having engine trouble with their ship (giving us a sense of realism as the crew quarrel about whether they are going to survive (and being in the middle of sexual tension between Leia & Han)..all the while Luke learning what it takes to be a jedi ( & that his attachment to his friends is how the emperor will defeat him). And of course the treachery of the cloud city and how luke knowingly walks into a trap finding out that he never was prepared for what he was about to find out. Empire by far has the emotional twists plus the mythology of the hero's challenge that makes it a movie that wil always be remembered.
Fight Club is trully a masterpiece. With a narration that sucks you in from the beginning to an ending that I don't think can be topped. An amazing view at identity and how the modern man(person?!) is defined. Fight club is the kind of movie that has you asking questions rather than giving you answers. It has a great cast, fantastic editing and direction that has you crawling to the edge of your seat. If you haven't seen it ..SEE IT NOW...(btw definitly not for the faint of heart), for the big fans I recommend you read other books by the same author Chuck Palahniuk.
WHat the?!?! that was my first reaction. As you start to watch it & get it ( hopefully) ... you can only think...GENIUS. This movie is so beautifully unique it should be in its own section at the video store. Christopher Nolan makes himself the one to watch. Great performances all round, especially from Joe Pantoliano. If you haven't watched this movie go get it quick before you forget.
OMG OMG OMG, I'll never forget how I was after watching this movie... I could not talk afterwards. It had me looking into space saying OH MY GOD..damn. David Fincher shows you what kind of meat he is made from. It has a great tension through out it and the fact that it is always raining adds to the dark mood of this movie. Great performances from the cast, especially "John Doe"..the ending is one that is always talked about...what would you do in that situation?...A great shock to the system.
This is the movie that had me searching all the video stores for Luc Besson. As usual Luc Besson's timing is perfect and the cast are amazing. After watching this I became a fan of Gary Oldman, he makes the bad guy seem so real and yet so bizarre. I love the part when Leon ( Jean Reno) is deciding whether or not he is going to open the door for Matilda ( Natalie Portman). A life changing moment... and your just waiting for it to happen. Brilliant.
This is such a beautiful movie. I love the way the narrative takes us to so many different places in such a short time. I remember watching this movie and having no idea where it was headed... and I love that. It sweeps you up into this world of imagination and personality that you want to be part of it. Definitely a feel good movie and there are laughs that you don't see coming... (then again the whole thing with humour is surprise isn't it?!...oops sidetracked) awesome movie, go watch it now.... right now.... go on!
Who do you trust?
There is something about being in a no win situation that shows you what a person is made of, well thats what I got out of this movie. It does move along quite slowly as if you are really paying attention to the last moments of your free life and I feel thats the point of the long scenes... I guess thats what I liked about it. The mood of hopelessness and the ambiguous ending that gives you hope but doesn't lead you anywhere. I thought it was great work by Spike Lee.
Amazing. This movie opens up the anime world. Classic. The music and sound for lack of a better word is perfect. The story is a bit hard to follow and I had to watch it a few times so that I could really get it ( which is why I took off half a star ) otherwise this is what anime should always aspire to.
Moulin Rouge! is really fresh and unique..thats why I like this movie. It has great colour and visuals coupled by a good sense of humour ( "like a virgin" is a classic example). Of course its a musical so it shouldn't be taken too seriously (people sing in the middle of conversations for pete's sake) but it does push the drama buttons and I would categorise this as a "chick flick" but bravo to Baz Lurhmann for giving us something different about ....Love.
This movie is the reason I love the Coen Brothers ( okay ..excluding Raising arizona). "You know for kids", this movie breaks many rules of story telling but manages to keep you involved. Its a nice look into the 40's with a 40's style sensitivity to it. Cartoony at times, it still has yopu invested in the outcome of the "hero". Nice and different.
Akira Kurosawa's best movie in my opinion. A master stroke and an inspiration to many film makers. Not sure what else to say ... if your a lover of film and you haven't seen it,... you ain't seen shit yet.
I love this movie. I can watch this movie again and again. I love the dialogue in this movie and the cast make it seem so easy. Dan Akroyd cracks me up in this movie, ... it gives me the sense of being all growned up but still feeling like a kid. Does that even make sense?!?!..
Obviously taking an Akira Kurosawa movie and making it his own. George Lucas kills it with this movie. Showing that all a blockbuster needs is a good story and some innovation. Of course it helps to have a cast that gel very well together and I mean very well. Darth Vader is still the best all time villain (you gotta love a guy that can choke you without touching you). Full of personality, humour and fun how could you not love this movie.
I love watching this movie just to pay attention to the editing and the camera moves. Spike has such style.Though not entirely a flawless direction. I do love the use of light and the colour with stark red and blues against the actors faces makes you feel like your always out in some club ( even when they are just in a bedroom ). Denzel Washington does a great job at showing the charms and the flaws of Bleek (spelling!?!).. Spike has a gift of having his background characters have such strong......character. It isn't a flawless movie but I still love it, I love the feeling of life that it has as it unravells and then fast forwards & of course the music.
This movie has a great subtle humour going through it ( excluding the underwear stunt of course ). Its the kind of movie that you can watch again and again. Great old songs going through it and lots of cameos which make you feel like you are in the exclusive world of male models. Basically stupid people doing stupid things can be very funny... if you don't believe me how about the petrol station scene...come on... that was some funny shit.Great fun. I love this movie, it has creeped its way into my daily life as when a camera comes out & your hanging with the boys someone will always yell out "BLUE STEEL" and we will all strike the pose. (why not give it 5 stars I hear you ask?!.... well Ben Stiller does indulge with some camera shots, giving his actors/& family some time to play around... yeah its great but it doesn't move the story forward ..)
