One of most thoughtful movies I've ever seen. I think this is one of those life-changing movies, that gives you a lot to think about after watching it. Dialogue is superb at all levels. I defiantly need to watch this again, and also some other Bergman works.
Although this movie takes place in just one room, it's more interesting than about 99% other movies. The script is great, dialogs are clever, the whole cast is just superb. You'll never think about jury the same.
This movie has it all. The story, the photography (some legendary scenes there), dialogue, casting (and their performances), and what not. Alfred Hitchcock was a genius.
Everything B.B. Thornton did in this movie was absolutely excellent. Directing above all. Honestly, I really can't remember when did I enjoyed so much with every scene, every line, it's just so flawless and at the same time very realistic. Everything from photography up to use of music was perfect. It's almost as it doesn't feel like American movie at all. And whole cast was just amazing, not just B.B.Thornton, which is also a result of great directing skills and amazing characterization also. I really hope to see B.B.Thornton directing more, this is just too good to go as unnoticed.
It took me 2 times to realize how exceptional and innovative this movie is. If I was to pick 100 most memorable quotes ever, at least 10 would've been from Citizen Kane.
I didn't like it that much the first time, but now I gotta admit this really is one of Coen's better works. From technical aspect this should be one of my favorites. I also loved the screenplay and the dialogue. I just didn't like casting that much, aside from Polito, Turturro, Buscemi and Finney. But the rest isn't bad, I just felt it could have been better. Anyhow, this is overall great picture, quite unique these days.
S.Lumet really can get the best out of his cast, and 5 nominees and 3 wins in actor categories for Oscar proves that point. But, this movie gives more than any Oscar can award it. Because it's more than just a movie. It was, and still is the best critical vision of Americas and Golbal economy, which is masterfully explained by Mr.Jensen(Ned Beatty) in only one scene. A must see.
Life is fragile. I felt that just by watching this movie. Maybe it's not the most innovative (hence Memento), but definitely is one of most touching movies I've ever seen. Unlike Memento, plot is not so important here, and after first 30 minutes you should see what has really happened. Even as "storytelling" may seem a bit confusing and odd because scenes "come and go" without any systematic order, everything is really great arranged and it adds to the experience. Also masterful performances by firstly Naomi Watts, Benicio Del Toro, and also Sean Penn, are one of the main reasons this movie is so depressing but also realistic. Music falls just perfectly every time it appears.
This is the most beautiful movie I have ever seen. And not just visually, the score is also mesmerizing. Generally speaking, this movie is about life and death. Pretty hard to understand, but unlike anything you've seen so far. I guess this is one of those movies that just get better with every time watching it, but I can't confirm that just yet.
